August 2026 Publisher’s Letter

Every year, our Kids & Pets issue reminds me of some of life's greatest blessings—the children and animals who bring so much joy, laughter, and unconditional love into our lives.

Children have a remarkable way of reminding us what truly matters. Their curiosity encourages us to see the world through fresh eyes. Their energy keeps us moving forward. Their optimism reminds us that even in challenging times, there is always something to look forward to.

As parents, grandparents, relatives, mentors, and friends, we all play a role in helping children grow into confident, compassionate adults. The time we invest in them today helps shape not only their future, but the future of our communities as well. Every encouraging word, every lesson, and every moment spent together leaves a lasting impact.

Of course, no discussion about family would be complete without acknowledging the special place pets hold in our hearts. For many of us, they are far more than companions—they are members of the family. They greet us at the door after a long day, sit beside us during life's ups and downs, and provide a kind of unconditional love that asks for nothing in return.

What has always struck me is how much pets enrich our lives. They have a way of bringing people together, creating routines, encouraging us to slow down, and reminding us to appreciate the simple moments.

There is also something truly special about the bond between children and animals. Whether it's a child reading to a dog, playing fetch in the backyard, or simply sharing quiet moments together, those relationships often create memories that last a lifetime. Pets teach children empathy, kindness, loyalty, and responsibility in ways that are both simple and profound.

At the heart of it all is a simple truth: both children and pets depend on us. They rely on our love, guidance, patience, and care. They fill our homes with laughter, comfort, companionship, and countless moments that become treasured memories.

As you enjoy this issue, I hope you'll take a moment to appreciate the children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, pets, and furry friends who bring happiness to your life.

Here's to the kids who inspire us, the pets who love us unconditionally, and the families who make our communities such wonderful places to call home.

Cheers!

Active Dog’s New Boarding Facility

A BRAND-NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY

Active Dog recently put in a brand-new, state-of-the-art, 9,600-squarefoot building. The new building features extra-large dog rooms so each guest has plenty of room to eat, sleep, chew a bone or do whatever they may like to do in their downtime.

The new building also features a spacious grooming room with three tubs and a walk-in shower so dogs can return home fresh and clean after their time away.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY

MORE ROOM TO GET COMFY

One of the most exciting features of the new space is how much room dogs now have to really settle in and get comfy. Active Dog has never believed in crating dogs when they stay unless owners request it, making the large rooms one of the best new features of the facility. Have a household of three Bernese Mountain Dogs? They can all comfortably fit in the new rooms.

THE HIKES ARE BETTER THAN EVER

Dogs still hike directly on the farm property. Active Dog has added a few extra fenced-in acres to the trail, making it longer with access to different streams along the way for the hotter months. There are also several play yards where dogs can stretch their legs when they aren’t hiking.

SAFETY, SUPERVISION AND SMALLER GROUPS

Active Dog has completely redone the way playtimes and group sizes are handled. Dogs are in groups of no more than 15 at a time, with a Pack Pro-trained staff member supervising at all times.

This allows staff to have more one-on-one time with each dog and make sure everyone is happy and comfortable. Dogs are also separated by size so large and extra-large dogs have a proper play match.

All Farm Staff are Pack Pro Certified, and the management team is CPR and First Aid Certified.

WHY TRIAL NIGHTS MATTER

Some dogs that have never boarded before, or boarded in a different style of kennel, may find being thrown into a brandnew space very overwhelming, especially if their first stay is for a long stretch.

That is why all dogs are required to complete a one-night trial night. Active Dog has found this makes a huge difference in helping dogs get used to the space, the staff and the new routine. Once dogs have passed their trial night, they are welcome to come back for any length of time.

If a dog seems a little nervous or on edge during the trial, a short weekend stay is recommended before any week-long bookings.

THE COMFORTS OF HOME

Each dog comes with their own food so they can maintain the same diet they have at home, helping reduce the chance of upset tummy troubles.

Owners are also welcome to send a toy, bone or blanket from home. Active Dog also keeps blankets and bones on hand for dogs that seem to be missing home a little too much.

First-time boarders receive their own stall and can keep food bowls with them overnight if they are more of a grazer.

WHAT SURPRISES OWNERS MOST

A lot of dogs returning home from boarding are TIRED. They are getting a ton of stimulation and probably a lot more exercise than they are used to, so don’t be surprised if they come home and knock out for a few hours.

PLANNING A PAWCATION

Many people now plan vacations around their pets, and Active Dog now takes boarding reservations six months in advance. If you have a trip planned within that timeframe, they recommend booking your dog’s pawcation when you book your own.

PEACE OF MIND FOR PET PARENTS

To help owners stay connected, the team sends daily updates and photos so families can see the adventures their dogs have been up to while they are away. Active Dog’s goal is simple: to care for every dog as they would their own. They want each dog that comes through their doors to enjoy themselves and be comfortable.

Parenting Advice

From the Women

Behind Fairfield County Moms

BY

Michelle Sanford and Elisabeth Pavlofsky are dedicated to building community in everything they do. Whether active in their neighborhoods, working in their classrooms, or seemingly living out of their cars with the daily chaos of dropoffs and carpools, this Fairfield mom duo is committed to supporting local families. Michelle began as a contributor to Fairfield County Moms, a platform launched by a childhood friend, and now leads the thriving community resource. Together with Elisabeth and their team, they continue to grow the site, providing moms with a trusted destination for parenting advice, local events, family-friendly activities, and connections that help make life a little easier. There’s no gatekeeping and no carefully curated highlight reel; just honest conversations, real-life experiences, and a genuine understanding of the joys and challenges of motherhood. Meet Michelle and Elisabeth. Simply put, they’re the real deal. -SB

FLM: TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELVES AND YOUR CONNECTION TO FAIRFIELD.

Michelle Sanford: I have called Fairfield home for nearly 18 years. I’m a grade-level leader in a local public school, owner of Fairfield County Mom and Westchester County Mom, and most importantly, a mom to three amazing kids. Between sports practices and games, school events, and playing with our two dogs, life is busy, loud, and usually fueled by coffee and Diet Coke. Fairfield has been the backdrop for so many of our family’s milestones, and I truly can’t imagine raising my kids anywhere else.

Elisabeth Pavlofsky: My husband and I have lived in Fairfield for 12. We chose to raise our three daughters in Fairfield because of the school system and proximity to NYC for my husband’s job. Being close to the beach and the sense of community were also reasons why Fairfield was the perfect place for our family. Fairfield had it all! In addition to my role with Fairfield County Mom, I teach preschool in town at Southport Congregational Preschool and love so much about this place I call home!

FLM: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THE WEBSITE? HOW HAS THE SITE EVOLVED SINCE IT LAUNCHED?

MS: Fairfield County Mom was actually started by my best friend from second grade as part of the City Moms Blog Network. She invited me to join as a contributor, and I immediately loved the idea of creating a community where moms could connect, share resources, and discover local businesses. I became a co-owner, later purchased Westchester County Mom, and eventually took the business independent. Over the years, we’ve grown into a trusted resource for local families, but our mission has remained the same: building community and helping moms feel connected and supported. We have an incredible team of contributors, comprehensive local guides, partnerships with businesses throughout Fairfield County, and a thriving social media community. The biggest evolution has been the depth of the conversations. We’ve moved beyond “Where can I take my toddler?” and into real discussions about parenting teens, mental health, grief, relationships, career changes, and all the messy, beautiful stages of motherhood.

Michelle Sanford and Elisabeth Pavlofsky of Fairfield County Mom.
“PARENTING IS HARD, BUT SOMETIMES ALL YOU CAN DO IS LAUGH.“

FLM: HOW DO YOU TWO DIVIDE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PLAY TO EACH OTHER’S STRENGTHS?

MS: I focus on editorial content, contributor management, community engagement, and the brand’s overall vision. We complement each other well because we genuinely respect what the other brings to the table. It also helps that we are best friends.

EP: I first started out with Fairfield County Mom as a contributor. After a few months of writing, she asked if I would be interested in being the Sponsorship Coordinator. This allows me to fully support businesses with marketing campaigns and analytics. I love this side of the business - building lasting relationships with partners. My goal is to be trustworthy and flexible, all that FCM stands for. Michelle and I work so well together, and it has become so seamless. Sometimes she laughs at my crazy ideas, but she is so supportive of the work I do and vice versa. It wouldn’t work without all the behind-thescenes effort she puts forth, and I’m proud to help maintain positive relationships with local businesses.

FLM: SO, SINCE YOU’RE IN-THE-KNOW, WHAT’S A GREAT LOCAL SPOT TO GRAB A COFFEE, CATCH UP AND GET SOME WORK DONE?

MS: This might be controversial, but my favorite “office” is often my car in a sports parking lot. I’ve answered emails from football fields, lacrosse tournaments, and clinic parking lots. But when I can actually sit down, I love grabbing a coffee at Candlewood Market. It also helps that it’s located in the middle of the Sportsplex, where my kids have many classes and clinics.

EP: We are SO lucky to have a number of amazing spots to retreat to! However, whether it be an important meeting or just sorting through emails, Candlewood Market is my go-to. The big, open, and light space is so inviting. They also offer a variety of goodies and snacks - whatever your mood is, they are guaranteed to have something. Other local spots such as Joe Joe Coffee & Açaí, Roost Fairfield, Gruel  Britannia, and Cosetta deserve shout-outs because they offer great spaces and amazing coffee too!

FLM: WHAT TOPICS SEEM TO RESONATE MOST WITH YOUR AUDIENCE?

MS: The content that performs best is usually the most honest. Moms connect with stories about balancing it all, navigating different stages of parenting, mental health, friendships, marriage, grief, and the reality that none of us really have it figured out. Local guides are always popular, but the personal stories are what create true connection. When one mom shares something vulnerable, it gives other moms permission to say, “I’m not alone.”

EP: Raw and candid stories resonate the most. For so long, there was a stigma around mental health. People are now talking about it and how important it is to support one another. Content related to mental health is so well received because our audience feels seen and heard. Normalizing talking about struggles is so important, and I think our readership finds solace in knowing other moms have the same struggles!

“The moment you realize another mom is dealing with the same thing is often the moment you stop feeling alone.”
— MICHELLE SANFORD

FLM: WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR MOMS TO HAVE SPACES WHERE THEY CAN SHARE HONEST EXPERIENCES?

MS: Because motherhood can feel incredibly lonely when everyone appears to have it together. Social media often shows the highlight reel, but real life is much messier. We need spaces where moms can admit they’re struggling, laugh about the chaos, celebrate wins, and ask for help without judgment. The moment you realize another mom is dealing with the same thing is often the moment you stop feeling alone.

EP: I found Fairfield County Mom a few years before I knew Michelle because I was struggling to breastfeed my daughter. I was up at 2 AM pumping and doom scrolling. Googling “is breast milk or formula better?” because I was hormonal and stressed! I read an article written by a FCM contributor and thought, I am not alone! All moms struggle! We just don’t always talk about it! FCM offers a platform for moms to share and read stories that leave you feeling, “I can connect.” And that’s what we are all about!

FLM: WHAT DO YOU HOPE MOTHERS FEEL WHEN THEY VISIT YOUR PLATFORMS?

MS: Seen, supported, and less alone. Whether they’re looking for a summer camp, a pediatrician, a family event, or reassurance that they’re doing okay, I want moms to leave feeling like they’ve found their people. I also hope they laugh. Parenting is hard, but sometimes all you can do is laugh.

EP: I hope moms feel a big virtual hug. Parenting is so hard. It’s exhausting, and it’s endless. But there is also so much joy. As I always say, we celebrate “the highs, the lows and everything in between!” I hope moms feel like they are kicking butt and rocking the mom thing! And I hope they are feeling like they can rely on us to give them fun ideas - whether it be something to do or somewhere to go - we have so many resources for moms!

FLM: WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT BUILDING AN ONLINE COMMUNITY?

MS: How quickly strangers become friends. I’ve watched moms connect through contributor opportunities, support each other through difficult seasons, and build genuine friendships. The internet gets a bad reputation sometimes, but when it’s built around authenticity and community, it can create meaningful relationships.

EP: Consistency is key. I am looking at this through a partnership lens, and businesses always ask me, “What will bring me the most success with your community?” It was surprising to me how real relationships are built on consistent communication, even online! Subject matter is also a key to building community. You need to consider the resources and messaging you put out, because not everything is always received as you may have intended.

FLM: WHAT ARE SOME HIDDEN GEMS FOR FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY THIS SUMMER AND FALL?

MS: Southport Beach is one of my favorites because the limited parking keeps the crowds down, making it feel like a peaceful escape even in the middle of summer. The Chelsea is a great spot for date night or a special occasion with the kids. And while it may not be a traditional family destination, Alchemy The Salon & Spa is a hidden gem for moms—a little self-care goes a long way, and every mom deserves a chance to recharge.

EP: There are almost too many, so I am just going to list my secret go-to favorites! Sasco Beach has the most beautiful sunsets, and if you time it right, you can enjoy the Proof Pizza Truck during your beach dinner! Layla’s is my go-to week night take out. Posh Nails is the best because nails include a lovely massage. Chef’s Table has the best soup in town, Bar-O-Bagel has the best bagels. And finally, Malibu has the best family meal in town. You won’t be sorry you listened to me!

“I also feel so proud that people recognize that moms are the decision-makers and moms make things happen!”
— ELISABETH PAVLOFSKY

FLM: WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO SANITY SAVERS OR BEST MOM HACKS ON A TOUGH DAY?

MS: Audiobooks and Diet Coke! If I’m driving between activities, listening to a great audiobook instantly lowers my stress level. My other mom hack is lowering expectations when needed. Not every day has to be productive, perfectly organized, or Instagramworthy. Sometimes success is simply getting everyone where they need to be with clean socks and a reasonably positive attitude.

EP: On a tough day, I get a fun latte and make a list. I swear by lists - write it all down and slowly accomplish things in order of importance. Some things sit on my list for weeks, and that’s ok. Blasting 80’s ballads and belting out Celine Dion makes me happy! Also, when days are tough, take dinner off your plate, no pun intended. Either order out or find something in the freezer (another mom hack is to always make a second lasagna or taco bake and freeze it for a day like this)! And for the ultimate sanity, text or call your people. A quick convo with a girlfriend always lightens the mood!

FLM: IF A FAMILY WERE NEW TO TOWN, WHAT ARE THE FIRST THREE THINGS YOU’D RECOMMEND THEY DO?

MS: Visit local parks, beaches, and community events to get a feel for the town. Follow local resources like Fairfield County Mom to learn about activities, businesses, and family-friendly events. And most importantly, introduce yourself. Volunteer at school, join a local group, attend a community event. Fairfield is filled with welcoming people, but building connections starts with showing up.

EP: First, get a beach sticker! Grab an egg sandwich from Tasty Yolk or a sandwich from Sorrentos and walk by the ocean! You will be so in love! Next, walk down the Post Road. Check out all the cute shops and restaurants!

Grab a bite at Old Post Tavern or something quick to go at the Pantry or Firehouse Deli. Shop at the Beehive or Apricot Lane. There is something for everyone downtown! Finally, get involved. Sign your kids up for sports with the rec department, see what clubs you can join at your children’s school, and look for volunteer opportunities with local charities. There are so many opportunities right at your fingertips!

FLM: WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART OF THIS JOURNEY SO FAR?

MS: Without question, it’s hearing that something we created helped someone. Whether it’s a mom who found a support system, a family who discovered a local resource, a business owner who grew because of a partnership, or a contributor who found her voice through writing—those moments remind me why we do this. Building community has always been the goal, and watching it happen every day is incredibly rewarding.

EP: Speaking to amazing business owners and learning about their passion and drive behind their business. I get to hear the behind-the-scenes story about their life and their establishment. You don’t often see the inspiration behind what they do in their ads, so I love knowing why they do what they do! Our community is so lucky to have so many businesses that want to make a difference!

I also feel so proud that people recognize that moms are the decision-makers and moms make things happen! After the height of the Covid pandemic, I saw a huge shift in businesses reaching out to “local mom resources” because moms get things done! I think that is such a rewarding part of our journey - knowing we support all the awesome things moms do for their families!

Healthcare with Primary Health of Rethink Your Connecticut

Looking to level up your health and wellness? Primary Health of Connecticut is where you can start. Dr. Nicole Maksymiw offers a truly different approach. She is redefining the healthcare experience. This means no more long waits, no more rushed appointments, and no more chasing results. Just premium individualized care and bespoke service. We spoke to Dr. Maksymiw to learn more.

FLM: WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS AND SPECIALITY?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: I am an Internal Medicine-trained physician who practices adult primary care. I am passionate about preventive medicine and helping patients stay healthy before problems arise. I also believe that a strong physician-patient relationship is one of the most important factors in achieving better health outcomes.

FLM: WHAT WAS THE CATALYST FOR OPENING PRIMARY HEALTH?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: I have been a primary care physician for more than 10 years and have worked in a variety of healthcare settings. Over time, healthcare has become increasingly complex, and many physicians have less flexibility in how they care for their patients. Visit times have become shorter, and meaningful doctor-patient relationships can be more difficult to maintain. In my search for a better way to practice

medicine, I discovered the Direct Primary Care model. This approach allows me to spend significantly more time with patients—often an hour or more—and be more accessible when they need me. Patients can call or text me directly rather than navigating a call center, and together we can address concerns early, before they develop into larger health issues. My goal is to bring primary care back to what it should be, a trusted relationship between a patient and their physician.

FLM: HOW DOES YOUR APPROACH DIFFER FROM A MORE CONVENTIONAL PHILOSOPHY?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: My practice operates using the Direct Primary Care model. Rather than billing insurance for primary care services, patients pay a monthly membership fee that covers their care. This includes primary care visits, urgent care visits, follow-up appointments, and communication by phone, text and email. Because I am not constrained by the traditional insurance model, I can offer longer appointments, greater accessibility, and more personalized care. I am also able to provide access to heavily discounted laboratory testing, with many comprehensive lab panels costing only $30–$40. Patients who prefer to use their insurance for laboratory testing are welcome to do so as well.

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw

FLM: WHO IS YOUR TYPICAL PATIENT?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: Through my practice, I care for patients throughout Fairfield County. My patients vary widely in age, background, and life circumstances. What many of them have in common is a desire to return to a more personal model of healthcare, one where they have a dedicated physician who knows them, is accessible when they need help, and takes the time to listen.

FLM: WHAT CAN A NEW PATIENT EXPECT WORKING WITH YOUR TEAM THAT MAYBE HAS BEEN MISSING FROM THEIR PREVIOUS CARE?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: Many patients come to me frustrated by long wait times, difficulty reaching their doctor’s office, or seeing a different provider at every visit. One of the biggest benefits of the Direct Primary Care model is that patients can address concerns when they first arise rather than waiting weeks or months for an appointment. The process begins with a complimentary meet-andgreet so we can determine whether the practice is a good fit. Patients then schedule a comprehensive annual physical that lasts at least an hour. During that visit, I take a detailed medical history, review current health concerns, and develop a personalized plan. Laboratory testing is often ordered, and patients return soon afterward to review results and discuss next steps together. Patients can call or text me directly with questions or concerns and receive a timely response. That accessibility allows us to address issues early and maintain continuity of care.

FLM: ANOTHER UNIQUE ASPECT OF YOUR PRACTICE IS THAT YOU ALSO WORK WITH SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THAT AND WHY?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: Many small business owners would like to provide meaningful healthcare benefits for their employees but struggle with the rising cost of traditional insurance premiums. Direct Primary Care offers an affordable solution that gives employees direct access to a physician. For many businesses, it serves as a valuable employee benefit that improves access to healthcare while helping employees stay healthy and productive. It is a practical way for small businesses to invest in their workforce without the financial burden of providing comprehensive insurance coverage.

FLM: IF YOU COULD SHARE SOME PROACTIVE TIPS FOR BOOSTING HEALTH AS WE HEAD INTO THE FALL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: Fall marks the beginning of cold and flu season, so it is important to focus on the fundamentals of good health. Regular physical activity, even something as simple as a daily walk, can improve overall health and support the immune system. Strength training is another valuable addition that can help maintain muscle mass and overall wellness as we age.  A balanced diet that is low in sugar and highly processed carbohydrates can help reduce inflammation and support long-term health. Finally, I encourage patients to stay up to date on recommended vaccinations, including the annual flu vaccine.

FLM: WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST FULFILLING ASPECT OF YOUR WORK AS A PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN?

Dr. Nicole Maksymiw: The reason I chose primary care is that I enjoy building meaningful relationships with my patients. Having my own practice has allowed me to reconnect with that aspect of medicine in a way that was becoming increasingly difficult in traditional healthcare settings. Because I am able to spend more time with each patient, we can have deeper conversations, better understand the factors affecting their health, and work together to address the root causes of many concerns. Seeing patients improve over time and knowing that I have been able to make a meaningful difference in their lives is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Twelve years in, it shows: millions of followers across every platform, three stand-up specials, a sold-out Relatable Tour, and a style of humor fans send each other captioned, “Are you watching me?” He delivers the kind of comedy that travels because everyone’s living some version of it.

Katie, his wife of six years, is a former biomedical engineer who also built a modeling career. She’s now raising their kids and co-hosting Correct Opinions alongside Trey — the show where the two of them swap takes on marriage, parenting, and whatever came up that week.

Trey has been at this longer than people realize. An Edmond, Oklahoma kid who grew up playing basketball described himself as a “shy kid who never thought he’d be an entertainer.” He started making videos while attending Oklahoma State University. After building millions of followers on Vine before the platform shut down, he gave himself six months on Instagram and Facebook to see whether he could rebuild from zero. He did. Stand-up soon followed. His first special, Are You For Real?, streams on YouTube; the second, Grow Up, on Amazon Prime; the third, built around the Relatable Tour, wrapped earlier this year. “I’ve been trying to be funny every week for like twelve years now,” he says. A slow climb, made one bit at a time.

“I’ve been trying to be funny every week for like twelve years now.”

Most of what Trey writes lately starts in his own kitchen. Thomas is three and a half, and he is, in his father’s words, “a movie.” He narrates his own life from the moment his eyes open and mispronounces words in ways his parents now repeat to each other because no one else would believe them. His younger sister, Eva, is what Katie calls “the calm one.” With a third now in the mix, the Kennedys are officially outnumbered.

After six years of marriage, Trey and Katie have learned that the partnership runs best when it gets its own time on the calendar. So once a week, they leave the kids with a sitter and go out for coffee. “You need a system,” Katie says. “It’s about taking time to look each other in the eye. Not the kids. Not the cameras. Just each other.”

The same instinct shapes the work. Most of Trey’s trial and error happens onstage or on Instagram, but the first read is always Katie’s. “There’s only been one time ever I’ve had to be like, ‘you’re not doing that,’” she says. The rest of the time, she just laughs first.

Trey and Katie talk about marriage, parenting, and the moments that don’t make the Instagram feed.

Homemade Dog Food

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

My two pugs are more than pets—they’re part of the family. That’s why I started making their food at home, and it’s been one of the most popular posts on my blog. You may be surprised just how easy this recipe is. I add all the ingredients to my slow-cooker to cook, and my dogs love it. If you decide to try this recipe for your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Every dog has different needs based on age, weight, and any health issues. You can even share this recipe with your vet to see if any changes are needed. The ingredients are flexible and can be easily swapped to substitute the turkey for chicken or beef, and even try different dog-safe vegetables. Making dog food at home isn’t hard—it just takes a little planning, and my dogs love it.

Slow Cooker Homemade Dog Food

INGREDIENTS:

• 3 lbs ground turkey (85% lean)

• 1¼ cups frozen sweet potatoes

• 1½ cups frozen peas and carrots

• 1 cup frozen spinach

• 1½ cups uncooked brown or white rice

• 4 cups water

DIRECTIONS:

1. Add all ingredients to a slow cooker.

2. Break up the ground turkey and mix all the ingredients.

3. Cover and cook on High for 3–4 hours or Low for 6 hours, stirring occasionally.

Note: My dog food was ready in 3½ hours on High. Let cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freeze for later use.

Get Back-to-School Ready!

Our friends at Fairfield County Mom knows what it takes to stay organized and keep backto-school chaos to a minimum.

TOP 10 TIPS TO GET SCHOOL READY:

• Map out the schedule early.  After-school activities, practices, games, school events, etc. Make it accessible to everyone in the family!

• Lock in your carpool plan now. Who are you sharing responsibilities with? Confirm.

• Use a meal delivery service or “easy dinner” system. This can also include ordering catering trays of food and freezing it for the tough nights!

• Do a full closet reset! Get rid of what no longer fits kiddos and replace the items they need. Make a list of who needs what so that while you are shopping, you aren’t left to wonder what fits who!

• Create a centralized family command center. A shared calendar, sports bag station, charging area = organization game changer.

• Stock up on essentials. Be prepared now with extra water bottles, snacks for on-the-go, sports gear backups. Organize your snack areas so kids can graband-go healthy options on the run!

• Add cushion time between activities so you’re not constantly racing the clock. And in these quiet moments, don’t forget to enjoy the peace!

• Schedule one-on-one time with each child. Schedule a date night with your significant other. Schedule a drink with your girlfriends. Put it on the calendar!

• Wake up at least 30 minutes before your kids. Give yourself time to wake up and gather your thoughts.

• Make a school supply checklist. In mid-August (so you are not scrambling), start ordering and purchasing everything you need! Load it into the backpacks and make sure you have cleaned lunchboxes or purchased new ones!
