I don’t know about you, but this time of year I am always torn. I find myself torn between resisting the commercialization of another greeting card holiday and indulging in all the sweet excuses to enjoy the season. To do a Valentine’s Day date out or enjoy a cozy night at home? To buy a card or just say a kind word? I usually land somewhere a little in between. We’ll each arrive at different answers based on our preferences and personalities, but what we hold in common is an opportunity to make sure those around us know we love them. And regardless of how you choose to celebrate, we hope the pages of this month’s magazine will help you do just that as we celebrate and highlight what’s to love in your local community. While we teeter between the chill of January winter and the excitement of spring, we hope you’ll be inspired to take a moment to come together with the people in your life. The ones in your home and on your street. In your neighborhood and your community. We’ve always believed what we can do together is so much more than what we can do apart. Since I was a little girl I have always imagined and planned my dream wedding. When I was five, I colored what I wanted it to look like. Everything was the perfect shade of light pink, even my dress! Now that I’m twenty-one, my dream wedding looks a little different, although I still found a way to incorporate pink. My husband, Carson Hall, and I have been dating since we were teenagers and have been planning our future together since the beginning of our relationship. On November 6th, 2021, he asked me to be his wife. He took me to CONTINUED >

A very special part about my bouquet is where I tucked little blue flowers throughout it. Baby blue was my late grandma’s favorite color and it was very meaningful to me to have a part of her with me that day. our piece of property saying that he had found where he wanted to build our forever home. He blindfolded me and guided me to the creek where he had a campfire with candles, blankets, tiki torches, s’mores, and a sign that said “will you marry me?”. In my teen years, I occasionally worked at a wedding venue near my home and through that I met many amazing wedding vendors. One of them is Lisa Hankal of Hankal Events. She’s been planning weddings for over ten years and I knew that I wanted her to plan mine. While going over wedding details she told me that she had just bought a wedding venue, The Pine House in Trenton, SC. Carson and I visited for a tour and instantly fell in love with it! It’s a beautiful historic home surrounded by peach trees and one of my favorite parts is the herringbone brick aisle! After securing a wedding planner and the venue, my next step was finding a photographer and videographer. I had previously worked with Aurora Adeleigh and loved their photography style. The husband and wife duo, Justin and Callie Cook, captured our day beautifully and were so much fun to work with. One thing I’m known for is being crafty. I love to learn and create new things. So, for our decorations, I wanted something personal. I decided to paint and distress mason jars and use them as flower vases on all the tables. The florals were all silk flowers and my family and friends helped me assemble them into bouquets (memories I’ll never forget). My favorite part about the flowers was being able to design and create my own bouquet and knowing that it will last forever. A very special part about my bouquet is where I tucked little blue flowers throughout it. Baby blue was my late grandma’s favorite color and it was very meaningful to me to have a part of her with me that day. Our ceremony took place on the front lawn of the Pine House and our wedding party consisted of ten people, including Carson and I. Steve Hartman was our officiant, he is the Pastor at Kiokee Baptist

Church, where I have attended my entire life. After we exchanged our vows, we walked together for the first time as husband and wife while our guests showered us with delicate bubbles. It truly was magical. For our first dance, Carson and I swayed to Forever Girl by Jon Langston, the song he played when he proposed to me. For favors, everyone received a bag with the ingredients to make s’mores and we had a photo booth where everyone could take home photos. Southeastern Exposure is a 1974 Winnebago camper that has been remodeled into a photo booth. It was a big hit! Not only did guests get to take their pictures, they also were able to leave a copy for us along with a message in a guest book. Our wedding cake was four tiers and had three flavors, vanilla, strawberry, and lemon. It was decorated with textured white icing and florals. To accommodate my food allergies, Sinless Sweets created the cake dairy and gluten free. The groom's cake was inspired by my husband's love for woodworking. His family owns Joe Easler Cabinet Shop, originally started by his late grandfather, where he learned his carpentry skills. UBU Bakes made a delicious chocolate cake with buttercream frosting to look like the trunk of a tree. Our wedding truly was magical and the best day ever thanks to our amazing vendors! Many memories were made that I will never forget.

Flowing Wells Theatre opens this spring with the Enopion production “The Cure”, a dining musical theatre experience which is set in the 1930’s and parallels the life of Christ. “At Flowing Wells Theatre, we will continue spreading God's Word through a theater experience,” shares Carol, “because there is a strong group of believers here who are looking for good moral entertainment or extra activities for their kids that goes along with their Christian values. We want to be a place people know they can trust, alongside of their churches, when looking for something for their families.”

Gay Bearden Children’s Book Author & Bearden Music Studio Instructor Years ago, as a second-grade teacher, Gay had her students draw pictures from which she would develop stories and make into classroom storybooks. Now, as a private music teacher who interacts with kids of all ages, she’s rekindled that passion and has published seven children’s books, one of which was illustrated by her music students. “I feel it's so important that children hold books and get joy out of reading books,” shares Gay. “I put the object lessons in there, such as being kind and brave and helping others, so that they can get something out of it, but I just want them to be able to have the thrill of sitting down and reading a book.”
Each book includes comprehension questions for further discussion and illustrations from a variety of collaborators including her daughter (Rebekah), son (Andrew), and uncle (Bill). That pain caused a lot of turmoil initially, not knowing how to navigate that level of tragedy at such a young age sent me sideways,” says Yannik. “I always say, pain took me away from God, but pain brought me back to Him. What I know now is that a loving God does allow pain but when you trust Him, that pain transforms into purpose.” When Yannik moved to Augusta, from Atlanta, he helped to establish a free after-school program for at-risk youth, Men in Training (mentor program for young men), several youth conferences for youth and young adults in the community, and Yannik is currently refurbishing a 6,000 square ft. community center he calls the Purpose Center! In 2017, Yannik founded Chosen Church, where they have become one of the fastest growing churches in the CSRA.

On a regular basis, people search for ways to show their love for family members. While flowers, candy, and jewelry are all great options, it’s very important to think about doing things today that will express love for those same people tomorrow, next year, and years down the road. Bob and Betty Kendra of Kendra Financial Group have suggestions for things people can do now to prepare and invest well to take care of loved ones well into the future. One of the first items to take care of includes updating vital information. “It's very important that the addresses of beneficiaries are updated and reviewed at least once a year, and more often if necessary, because once the owner of the policy or investment passes away, it can't be changed,” explains Bob. Failing to keep information up to date may cause lengthy delays in getting benefits to loved ones once the policy or investment holder is gone, which causes unnecessary stress to loved ones. Life insurance provides a way for people to pay off debt and replace income to family members, especially in cases of early and unexpected death. It is also a way to leave a gift to a spouse, child, grandchild, or a charity. “A lot of people think they have life insurance, but then they find out that theirs is going to expire because they have term life insurance, which is temporary,” explains Bob. “At the end of the specific time frame, which can be from ten to twenty years, the premium is going to increase in price, which is when most people cancel the policy. If they cancel the policy, then they don't have any life insurance. I make sure that if someone has term insurance, we upgrade some of it to a permanent policy to ensure that something is locked in for the rest of their life.” Additionally, managing costs for extended periods of care provides great relief to family members when the time comes for prolonged care needs. This month provides great incentive to take steps in providing a financially stable future for loved ones. Every woman dreams of an organized and beautiful closet space, but it often comes last on the list of places that get their time and attention. Follow our eight tips for transforming and elevating your closet as you Spring clean and declutter for a more peaceful, inspired space you absolutely love. A sneak peek inside the closet of active mom and entrepreneur Keri Tarantino of Leawood, KS reveals a dressing room that rivals celebrity homes in Beverly Hills. But it didn’t come easily. Keri painstakingly planned, designed and curated the space with care. When we first stepped inside, we gasped as our eyes beheld the glory. No detail went unnoticed in this dreamy dressing room. Here are some guiding principles that can be drawn from her exquisite taste and vision. How you organize your closet will of course differ based on the size of your space, the size of your wardrobe, and the kind of life you lead. But applying the guidelines Keri used in her space will result in a much more organized and aesthetically pleasing space.
USE R EAL ESTATE W ISELY Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. For someone who gets dressed for work each morning at 6 a.m., work clothes should be at the front of the closet. Store lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season clothes toward the back and on the upper shelves. The large mirror and counter with chair provides the perfect spot to select jewelry and finalize finishing outfit touches. While every closet is different, the key here is everything has a home.

Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.
03 04 NEGATIVE SPACE
Using space efficiently is important, but keep in mind every good design includes some negative space. For instance, consider adding built-ins on the long wall of your closet but keep the short wall open with a mirror.
FACE CLOTHES THE SA ME DIR ECTION
It may seem silly, but when dealing with a small space, little things count. Hanging all clothes the same direction is a no-brainer for continuity in your closet.
BAG & SHOE STOR AGE Alternate the way shoes are facing. This ultimately helps fit more on each row and provide a visually appealing way to display those prized possessions. Everyone understands the frustration of searching for that one clutch when rushing out for the evening. Bags benefit from a space all their own. UPGR ADED HA NGERS The simplest and fastest way to make a BIG difference in your closet organization is to get matching hangers that go beyond the traditional plastic or wire hangers. And for sure ditch any with paper from the dry cleaner! Here’s a few of our favorite elevated hangers:

Lighting is everything in a closet. Gone are the days of dim recessed lighting being sufficient. Consider adding a statement lighting fixture like a chandelier or pendant that provides ample bright lighting to your space, no matter how big or small.

Why use an armchair when you have room for a sofa? Slide up a stool and colorful area rug to complete the look. If you have excessive wall space, consider a mini gallery wall or a statement wall with wallpaper to polish things off.
