Long Live Chivalry, Integrity & Great Leadership

We live in a fast-paced world, often leaving behind the timeless values of character and integrity. Last month’s issue was for the ladies, and now we turn to honor the gentlemen in our community. Thank you to the gentlemen out there who, through positive actions and principles, help make our city a great one. Whether it is through their quiet determination, an unwavering commitment to fairness, or generous hearts, they help embody the virtues that elevate society. They remind us that true strength lies in kindness, and real leadership shines brightest through humility. May their stories inspire others to strive for excellence, not just in their achievements but in their character. We dedicate June to the gentlemen who have touched lives and show us that chivalry is not a relic of the past.

Dr. Anderson, Dr. Nahan and their team at Anderson Dental take great pride in their patients, administering the best care and services, while having a lot of fun in the process. They have also implemented a new Smilecare program for those without dental insurance. Going to the dentist doesn’t have to be a stressful event, and this practice strives to change lives for the better, one smile at a time.

Tucker, owner of Hudson Valley Swim School in Minnesota, shares how this model for learning water safety and teaching people how to swim has become his every day passion. Based locally, Tucker and his team work with all ages in order for them to enjoy all the water activities the world has to offer.

June is cyber security month, and RGW Wealth helps answer some questions on how to help keep personal data and financial information private from advancing technology and elaborate scams.

On a national scale, we have a piece on Mike Johnson, who you may recognize from Season 15 of The Bachelorette. Mike's passion for the wellness industry sparked with his own skin challenges, and took  more than 2 years to resolve before founding his own company, Oshun. With ingredients like honey, goat milk and olive oil, his products have brought skin relief and a new found confidence in life.

Wishing you all a Happy Father's Day, and an incredible summer!

Ask Susan

Dear Susan: What’s the biggest financial mistake men make - and how can they fix it?

Susan:

The biggest financial mistake many men make is overconfidence—especially thinking they can do it all themselves, without outside input.

That Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset can lead to missed planning, unnecessary risk, and costly blind spots. The solution is straightforward: have a plan, revisit it regularly, and work with qualified professionals. It’s not about doing it alone—it’s about having the support and guidance to help navigate your financial future.

care that smiles back

Inside Anderson Dental Care’s Patient-First Approach in Edina

Healthcare can often feel impersonal and expensive, however, Anderson Dental Care is taking a refreshingly human approach. Led by longtime dentist Dr. Richard J. Anderson, the Edina-based practice has built its reputation on personalized care, transparency, and a commitment to helping patients navigate the often confusing world of dental coverage.

At the heart of the practice is a simple philosophy: dentistry should revolve around people. That means not only delivering high-quality clinical care, but also ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their treatment decisions. Today, that mission is reflected in both the services they offer and the thoughtful innovations they’ve introduced – most notably, their in-house Smilecare program.

RETHINKING DENTAL COVERAGE WITH SMILECARE

For decades, dental insurance has been a cornerstone of how patients access care. But as Dr. Richard J. Anderson explains, that system is no longer working the way it once did.

“Dental insurance is getting more and more expensive and offering less and less

benefits,” he says. “It’s not the situation that it has been for some time where it really helps people with payments.”

Traditionally, patients have relied on employer-sponsored plans or purchased individual coverage. While employer plans can still offer value, individually purchased dental insurance has become increasingly difficult to justify. High premiums, deductibles, and limited coverage often leave patients paying more out of pocket than expected – sometimes even more than the cost of treatment itself.

Recognizing this growing gap, Anderson Dental Care developed Smilecare, an in-office membership program designed to simplify costs and expand access.

The concept is straightforward. Patients pay an annual fee that covers essential preventive services – such as cleanings, exams, and X-rays – while also receiving a 15 percent discount on virtually all additional treatments. There are no deductibles, no annual maximums, and no restrictions on the type of care covered.

“In our case, it’s a 15 percent discount on anything that is beyond the basic services, which includes literally anything,” says Dr. Anderson. “There’s no limit on what kind of treatment it is.”

“We’ve tried to make ours as universally coverage-oriented as possible.”

That flexibility is one of the program’s most significant advantages. Unlike traditional insurance plans, which often cap annual benefits – commonly around $1,500 – Smilecare allows patients to pursue necessary or desired treatments without spreading them out over multiple years to maximize coverage.

“If someone has something more extensive, or they want to do several procedures, they don’t have to pace it out over four years,” Dr. Anderson explains. “That’s a big help.”

The program is particularly appealing to patients without insurance, as well as those who have found individual plans lacking. It’s also tailored to accommodate different levels of need, with categories for children, adults, and patients managing ongoing periodontal conditions.

“We’ve tried to make ours as universally coverage-oriented as possible,” he says. “And try to get it to be as good a bargain for people as we can.”

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Patients appreciate the clarity, the value, and the sense that their dental provider is actively working on their behalf – not just clinically, but financially as well.

“It’s been very favorably received,” Dr. Anderson notes.

COMPREHENSIVE, PATIENT-CENTERED SERVICES

Beyond Smilecare, Anderson Dental Care offers a full spectrum of dental services designed to support lifelong oral health. From preventive care and routine cleanings to restorative and cosmetic treatments, the practice emphasizes continuity and customization.

Each patient’s needs are different, and the team takes the time to understand those nuances. For some, that may mean straightforward maintenance and occasional treatment. For others—particularly those dealing with gum disease or more complex dental issues, it involves a more proactive, ongoing care plan.

“People have varying situations,” Dr. Anderson says. “Some people are very healthy and don’t need much… others have more complicated needs, and we’ve tried to factor that into what people’s needs are.”

That individualized approach extends to how care is communicated. Patients are guided through their options clearly and honestly, without pressure – an approach that has helped the practice build long-standing relationships within the community.

A NEW ADDITION TO THE TEAM

A strong practice is only as good as its team, and Anderson Dental Care continues to invest in creating a warm, welcoming environment for patients. That commitment is reflected in the recent addition of dental assistant Jennifer McLeod.

After the retirement of a longtime assistant, the practice spent time searching for the right fit—someone with both technical expertise and the interpersonal qualities that define the office culture. They found exactly that in McLeod.

“We have a delightful young lady who is tremendously qualified and is a wonderful addition to our practice,” says Dr. Anderson. “She’s just a wonderful, wonderful spirit in the office.”

Now nearly two months into her role, McLeod has already made a meaningful impact. Her presence enhances the patient experience, contributing to the sense of ease and friendliness that regulars have come to expect.

LOOKING AHEAD

As the dental industry continues to evolve, Anderson Dental Care remains focused on what matters most: people. Whether through innovative programs like Smilecare, a comprehensive range of services, or the addition of compassionate team members, the practice is continually adapting to better serve its patients.

For Dr. Anderson, the goal is simple: to make high-quality dental care more accessible, more understandable, and ultimately more supportive of each patient’s overall well-being.

In a field often defined by complexity, that clarity – and that care – go a long way toward keeping Edina smiling.

Making Waves in Water Safety

HUDSON VALLEY SWIM BRINGS PERSONALIZED, SAFETY-FIRST INSTRUCTION TO THE TWIN CITIES

Tucker

In a state defined by its water – nearly 12,000 lakes across Minnesota – learning to swim isn’t just a seasonal pastime, it’s an essential life skill. That belief sits at the heart of Hudson Valley Swim, where owner Tucker S. is bringing a safety-first, highly personalized approach to swim instruction in St. Louis Park.

Originally founded in New York in the early 2000s, Hudson Valley Swim has steadily expanded along the East Coast. Tucker’s Twin Cities location marks its western reach – and a meaningful one. “Water safety is the most important thing,” he explains. “Our mission is to save lives by teaching people of all ages how to be safe around water and how to swim.”

But at Hudson Valley Swim, the approach goes beyond awareness. It’s about building confidence, comfort, and competence – starting as early as four months old and extending well into adulthood. In fact, Tucker notes that some of his most rewarding students are adults in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s who are learning to swim for the first time.

“There’s this idea that if you didn’t learn as a kid, it’s too late,” he says. “But we’ve created a space where people feel comfortable, supported, and not judged.”

That environment is no accident. Lessons take place in a warm, indoor pool with direct deck access, minimizing distractions and eliminating the chaos often associated with larger swim schools. With small class sizes – never more than four students beyond early parent-and-child sessions – each swimmer receives

focused, hands-on instruction. The structured curriculum ensures students meet specific skill benchmarks before progressing, reinforcing real learning rather than simply checking a box.

Sessions typically run seven to eight weeks, with classes meeting once per week. Families are encouraged to practice between lessons, reinforcing skills and accelerating progress. “It’s like learning an instrument,” Tucker says. “If you only practice once a week, you’re not going to improve as quickly.”

One of the program’s most impactful offerings is its Adaptive Swim Lessons, designed for swimmers who benefit from individualized instruction. Whether a child experiences anxiety around water, sensory sensitivities, or motor coordination challenges, Hudson Valley Swim tailors each lesson to meet their needs. Using flexible pacing, sensory-aware teaching strategies, and one-on-one or small group settings, instructors help swimmers build comfort first – then skills.

“Not every student learns the same way,” Tucker explains. “Adaptive lessons allow us to meet swimmers where they are and help them succeed in a way that works for them.”

The emphasis on safety extends beyond technique. A new initiative encourages every swimmer to “high five” an instructor before entering the water – a simple but powerful reminder to never swim alone. “We want kids, and adults, to always be aware of who’s watching and making sure they’re safe.”

“There’s this idea that if you didn’t learn as a kid, it’s too late. But we’ve created a space where people feel comfortable, supported, and not judged.”

For Tucker, launching Hudson Valley Swim isn’t just a business venture: it’s a purpose-driven endeavor. Inspired by a desire to make a tangible difference, he sees each lesson as part of a larger ripple effect, one that extends from individual swimmers to families and communities.

“If we can help even one person avoid a tragedy, it’s worth it,” he says. “But the goal is bigger than that – to make water safety a non-negotiable for everyone.”

In a place where water is woven into everyday life, Hudson Valley Swim is helping ensure that Minnesotans of all ages can enjoy it safely, confidently, and for years to come.

PROTECTING YOUR DIGITAL AND FINANCIAL LEGACY:

A Guide for the Modern Household

ARTICLE BY BENJAMIN BEUNING, CFP ©, CIMA ©, MS, PARTNER AND FINANCIAL ADVISOR AT RGW WEALTH MANAGEMENT LLC

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANDREW VICK

In today’s landscape where our financial lives are inseparably linked to the digital world, "Online Safety Month" serves as a critical reminder that anybody can be a target of cyber fraud. For families with complex financial lives and multiple lines of credit, the risks can be significantly higher than average.

ONLINE SAFETY MONTH PUTS A SPOTLIGHT ON DIGITAL HABITS— WHAT ARE THE MOST OVERLOOKED RISKS PEOPLE FACE WHEN IT COMES TO PROTECTING THEIR FINANCIAL INFORMATION ONLINE?

The most overlooked risk is not a lack of software, but a larger digital footprint. Households often have fragmented financial lives: multiple brokerage accounts, various investment platforms, and multiple credit lines. The more accounts you have, the larger risk you may have. More potential issues could arise from the following:

• Interconnectedness Trap, where a breach in a non-financial account—like a primary email or a cloud storage provider—gives hackers the keys to reset passwords across your entire financial life.

• Executive Impersonation or Family Emergency scams remain highly effective; hackers use publicly available information to craft hyper-realistic requests for urgent wire transfers.

IDENTITY THEFT CONTINUES TO EVOLVE—WHAT SIMPLE, EVERYDAY PRACTICES (LIKE PASSWORD MANAGEMENT OR TRANSACTION MONITORING) MAKE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE?

One of the most effective barriers is transitioning from passwords to

passphrases or utilizing a dedicated and vetted password manager. However, even the strongest password can fail without Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Try utilizing digital passkeys or authenticator apps rather than SMS-based codes. For monitoring, don’t only watch for large withdrawals; savvy swindlers will micro-transact on accounts, often charging $1.00 or less to see if a card is active before committing a larger theft.

FOR THOSE WHO FEEL OVERWHELMED BY CYBERSECURITY, WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE TO START WHEN TIGHTENING UP THEIR FINANCIAL SAFETY?

Freezing your credit with the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) is free and prevents anyone - including identity thieves - from opening new lines of credit in your name. It is one of the most powerful tools that can be utilized. Once your credit is frozen, prioritize securing your primary email account. If your email is secure with MFA and a unique, complex password, the rest of your digital life is significantly safer.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD PEOPLE REALISTICALLY BE REVIEWING THEIR BANK AND CREDIT CARD ACTIVITY— AND WHAT RED FLAGS SHOULD THEY WATCH FOR?

A weekly check-in is the gold standard. While many rely on monthly statements, a week is the ideal window to catch fraudulent activity before it compounds. Red flags include small test charges, unexplained subscription renewals for services you don’t recognize, and notifications of login attempts from unfamiliar locations.

THE GOAL ISN’T

NECESSARILY SPENDING LESS, BUT SPENDING INTENTIONALLY.

TRAVEL SEASON IS APPROACHING— WHAT FINANCIAL PRECAUTIONS SHOULD PEOPLE TAKE BEFORE HEADING OUT OF TOWN TO PROTECT THEIR ACCOUNTS AND IDENTITY?

Before departing, notify your financial institutions of your itinerary to prevent legitimate transactions from being flagged as fraud. Only carry the cards you intend to use and leave backup cards and Social Security cards in a secure safe at home. Digital wallets (like Apple Pay or Google Pay) are actually more secure than physical cards because they use tokenization, meaning the merchant never sees your actual card number.

FROM PUBLIC WI-FI TO LOST DEVICES, WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST FINANCIAL VULNERABILITIES WHILE TRAVELING, AND HOW CAN THEY BE AVOIDED?

Public Wi-Fi is a hotbed for attacks. Never log into a bank account or brokerage on hotel or airport Wi-Fi without a Virtual Private Network (VPN). If you lose a device, the risk isn’t just the hardware; it’s the cached logins. Ensure "Find My Device" is active and that you know how to remotely wipe your phone or laptop.

SUMMER VACATIONS CAN STRAIN BUDGETS—WHAT ARE YOUR TOP STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING CASH FLOW WITHOUT SACRIFICING EXPERIENCES?

The goal isn't necessarily spending less, but spending intentionally. Implement a Sinking Fund strategy: allocate a specific monthly transfer into a high-yield savings account dedicated solely to travel. When it comes time to book, use your premium travel cards for the bulk of the expenses to rack up points for future trips, but pay the balance immediately to avoid high-interest traps.

DO YOU RECOMMEND PLANNING VACATIONS MONTHS IN ADVANCE FROM A FINANCIAL STANDPOINT, AND IF SO, HOW SHOULD PEOPLE STRUCTURE THAT PLANNING?

Absolutely. Beyond the obvious "early bird" pricing, advanced planning allows for efficient travel. Structure your planning in three phases: the "Vision" (6 months out), the "Booking" (3-4 months out), and the "Liquidity Check" (1 month out) to ensure cash is available in the right accounts.

AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO YEAR-END, WHAT FINANCIAL STEPS SHOULD PEOPLE BE TAKING NOW TO MAXIMIZE POTENTIAL TAX CREDITS OR DEDUCTIONS?

Now is the time to review Tax-Loss Harvesting. Review your taxable brokerage accounts for opportunities to offset future or current capital gains. Additionally, consider Charitable Bunching. If you are near the standard deduction limit, bunching two years of charitable contributions into one (often via a Donor-Advised Fund) can maximize your itemized deductions.

THE HOLIDAYS CAN BE FINANCIALLY STRESSFUL—HOW CAN EARLY PLANNING HELP PEOPLE STAY ON TRACK AND AVOID DEBT GOING INTO THE NEW YEAR?

Early planning helps to eliminate emotional spending. By establishing a holiday spending ceiling in advance, you avoid the temptation of last-minute, high-cost gifts or personal purchases. For those in higher tax brackets, the biggest gift you can give yourself is ensuring your 401(k) and other investment account contributions are on track to be maximized for the current tax year. Preparing for your future self is the ultimate way to start the new year on solid footing.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
