Summer, summer, summer!

We’ve waited long enough and summer is FINALLY here. Thank goodness! Warm days, greenery and color everywhere, plus getting outside to enjoy where we live with family and friends. We can now officially say goodbye to that infamous last winter, and Minnesota… it’s about time.

The Edina Lifestyle team celebrated the ladies in May, and now it’s time to shine a light on the gentlemen. This month, we recognize some local businesses that might be fun for the guys to check out, but ladies are welcome too.

Dick Crockett, longtime executive director of the Edina Community Foundation for twenty years, celebrated his retirement this April. Dick has done so much for Edina, and we wish him the best moving forward.

We met with the DRIPBaR, which recently opened in the Brandon Square Mall (adjacent to the Original Pancake House) and is now there to meet some of your health needs. Owner, Stacy Lemmer, talks about her passion for the healthcare industry and the goal to give care at the cellular level, which is both preventative and part of ongoing health.

Catching up with Dietrich Nissen of Inherited Stories was truly a celebration of documenting generations. A former on-air journalist, Dietrich helps families carry on legacies for loved ones and generations to come. Is there a family story you want to cherish and keep relevant? Dietrich specializes in capturing the past and present while carrying it into the future.

Along the lines of capturing moments, we spoke with our very own and beloved, Andrew Vick. I feel like there are very few people Andrew doesn’t know in the Edina community and beyond! And, if you haven’t met him, he has the gift of gab, laughter and capturing the best in just about everyone.

In case the gentlemen out there want to skip future exterior maintenance, we have some ideas from Twin Cities Siding Professionals.

We hope your summer is in full swing and that it’s one of the most memorable.

Until next month,

June 2023

An Infusion of Wellness

VITAMINS FOR HEALTHY CELLS AND BODIES

“Although it seems like a new health trend, it’s actually been around for years,” says Stacy Lemmer, owner of The DRIPBaR Edina, about intravenous vitamin therapies. “There’s a lot of clinical data that supports what we do, which is really exciting for me.”

After 25 years of mostly working in the medical device industry, Stacy set out to help people directly.  The DRIPBaR – which opened in March – gave her the opportunity to promote

preventative wellness and provide vitamin therapy to people who may want to increase their energy and immunity, improve their hydration or take advantage of anti-aging nutrients.

“It’s all about keeping their bodies healthy and well,” she says. “Vitamin insufficiency can lead to an array of symptoms that include depressed mood, increased anxiety, fatigue, muscle aching, neuropathy, brain fog, and other symptoms that compromise quality of life.  If they’re currently battling a sickness, disease or have certain ongoing existing conditions, vitamin therapy can help with the entire gamut.”

Due to certain health situations, our bodies may not be producing as much of one vitamin or another, she explains. “Even if we have a good nutritional diet or we are taking oral supplements, the absorption of our micronutrients is compromised by the digestive process resulting in only about a 30% absorption rate. With intravenous

vitamin therapy, it’s almost a 100% absorption because it’s going directly into the bloodstream.”

The DRIPBaR has designed many vitamin formulas. Stacy and her team help steer clients to the right options by asking questions about what they’re looking to improve upon. There are different protocols for certain health conditions, so if, for example, you’re actively fighting cancer or are in remission, there is a specific protocol just for that.

For more short-term goals, such as pre-and post-surgery, there are specific vitamin infusions.

“We have a client who just had shoulder surgery and he received our post-op drip the day after his surgery. He felt restored by the hydration, energized from the B12 and a reduction in his inflammation.

“Everything that we offer helps your health at the cellular level, and I think it’s important to note that some people will feel the effects of their vitamin drip while

CONTINUED > 15 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/EDINA JUNE 2023

they are still dripping. On the other hand, some may not feel a change at all due to the drip being focused on improving immune health.” Even if you don’t feel anything, she says your cells are getting nutrients that they need.

“Our research has shown that folks who come back once a month feel the biggest difference due to the consistency in their levels of micronutrients. If you’re following one of our health protocols, the data may show that you should come back more often, perhaps a few times a week.”

The DRIPBaR is operated under the supervision of a medical director, and only staffed by registered nurses who mix and administer the drips. For those who may have a fear of needles, she says the needle stays in for only a couple seconds. “The nurse uses the needle to provide access for the catheter to be advanced inside the vein and then it’s retracted.”

Safety, of course, is of utmost concern. “We follow the highest pharmaceutical standards. This includes a sterile isolator hood for mixing all IV bags and the use of only pharmaceutical grade vitamins manufactured within the USA.”

The spa itself is very colorful, inviting and clean. “It’s got a cool music vibe. We have an IV lounge we call our dripping area. We can even host parties here.”

For those who may not have time for a drip, they can opt for a quick shot of vitamins into the muscle. Other offerings include micronutrient testing, infrared sauna, halotherapy, red light therapy and a Semaglutide weight loss program.

“I feel the people in Edina really take care of themselves, and I wanted to be part of that journey and their lifestyle to help them feel better and get more out of their lives. We really do believe that if you feed your cells, you’ll fuel your life.”

Ready to Listen

HOW ONE MAN MAKES PEOPLE FEEL HEARD

It’s the middle of the week and Dietrich Nissen, owner of Inherited Stories, is getting ready to start another project. He sets up lighting, mics his client, presses record on the camera and sits down opposite a stranger with a story to tell.

Dietrich is over the moon for another opportunity to connect with an everyday person and make them feel understood. You see, he knows they don’t have to be famous or adored by thousands to have something to say – everyone from The Rock to a fourth grader is worthy of being heard.

When Dietrich finishes up for the day, he smiles to himself knowing that he is helping another family digitally immortalize their loved one, all the while living his dream.

“Inherited Stories started as a decadeslong vision of mine,” he explains. “I have held a lot of jobs in my life – everything from TV news, film and commercial production to teaching elementary school – and during all of them, my favorite part was when I got to talk with people in all different stages of life.”

He continues, “I love people, I really do. After 20 plus years in video storytelling, I wanted to solely focus on helping others tell their stories. Unfortunately, the event that really made me put my dream into motion was when my grandmother died.”

Before she passed, Dietrich and his family would go to her house every Sunday for dinner, enjoying good food and listening to all her tales.

“She was a single mom to five boys and lived during the Great Depression, so you could only imagine the stories she would tell,” Dietrich says. “My uncles and dad would say that we should set

up a camera to record her talking, but we just never got around to it. She died from dementia and Alzheimer’s complications before we got the camera out and I will always regret this.”

Wanting to eliminate this pain for other families, Dietrich opened Inherited Stories in 2019.

“I now can give families the option of remembering the people they love through a legacy documentary known as a Vimory,” he says. “So once that person is no longer with us here, they’ll still be able to hear their voice, see their smile and listen to their stories.”

Each Vimory is a custom-crafted piece of unique visual art about a person(s)’ life journey. Dietrich does a lot of the work himself – everything from planning, shooting, interviewing, editing and graphic design.

“Our life stories are the one thing we each have that can only be passed down from us to our families, and that makes them priceless,” Dietrich says. “My vision for Inherited Stories is for us to become synonymous with providing transparent, integrity-driven customer service, producing outstanding visual storytelling, and promoting a culture of empathy, kindness and appreciation.

“Also, it’s important to understand that even though I started this, in part, because of my grandmother’s passing, a person does not need to be in their end stages of life to have a Vimory created for them.”

Inherited Stories offers six different Vimory categories including legacy, betrothed, origin, cherished, gathering and brave.

“The legacy and betrothed Vimories are similar in that they respectively capture an individual or couple’s life story at any stage,” Dietrich explains. “The origin is a fun and light project, designed as a celebratory gift for a graduate and their family. The cherished is created to preserve an individual’s life story before their terminal illness takes them from us. The gathering is a family-style interview where members openly share about the life of someone they love living with memory loss. Last but not least, the brave is a gift for service members and their immediate families.”

Vimory projects can take anywhere between 30 to 80 hours to finish. Dietrich starts by meeting with the clients to go over his process, what to expect and how to prepare for the interview shoot(s).

“We want you and your loved ones to feel comfortable with us,” he says. “That’s why the first thing we’ll do is meet so we can get to know everyone. We will travel to you to ease stress and mileage is covered in the overall fee if within a 50-mile radius of Edina. We do travel the whole upper Midwest, just for an additional cost.”

After the meeting, it’s time to record, create and deliver.

CONTINUED > 21 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/EDINA JUNE 2023
“Everyone has a story to tell, and we just need to be ready to listen.”

“Depending on the category of Vimory a client is creating, we may record at multiple locations and/or have multiple interviewees,” Dietrich explains. “At the recording session, I gather all photos and other physical media the family wants to be included in the video. Afterwards, we create the Vimory and deliver it digitally. It’s fun to watch as everything comes together.”

Since opening, Dietrich has worked on many touching projects and has grown strong relationships with a few clients.

“It’s a funny thing when you just take the time to listen to someone,” he says. “Two strangers connect on a different level and it’s very special. I have been invited to clients’ anniversary parties, weddings and other big life events.”

This past January he interviewed his youngest client

yet, a seven-year-old girl with a terminal illness. As a father of two young children himself, Dietrich says this was really hard to do, but also incredible.

“We made a video about the girl just being herself, playing with her favorite Disney Frozen toys and hanging out,” he says. “She’s a great kid and this was a turning point because I was really able to see that there is no age limit to what I do.”

As Dietrich gears up for his next few projects this summer, he once again smiles to himself with his heart open, ears perked and camera on record.

“If I could, I would do this for free,” he says. “Everyone has a story to tell, and we just need to be ready to listen.”

Capture Your Summer Memories

AWARD-WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER AIMS TO MAKE FAMILIES LOOK THEIR BEST

The sun is shining, the air is warmer and families are spending a lot more time together outdoors. It’s summer in Minnesota and local Edina photographer Andrew Vick has been gearing up for months for a season of photo sessions.

“Now is a great time to hire a professional photographer to capture your family memories,” Andrew, owner of Vick Studios, says. “We do in-studio and on-site photo shoots, which helps our clients feel comfortable in the environment they choose.”

Andrew is an award-winning lensman, experienced in wedding, event, landscape, portrait and lifestyle photography.

“Our clients often become like family, and as a small business we are always so excited to learn more about how we can create art and lasting memories for people,” Andrew says.

Vick Studios has a caring team of photographers specialized to help in all aspects of the session process.

We sat down with Andrew to discuss the emerging trends in photography, his tips for better family photos and how being a father is intertwined with his work.

HOW HAVE CORPORATE PHOTO SESSIONS EVOLVED IN THE PAST FEW YEARS?

Now more than ever, I’m being asked to take a group of lawyers or doctors who are normally very buttoned up and make them more relatable. I like to show that they’re actually fun and can loosen their ties a little. To do this, I could come in when they are doing a team building meeting with craft beverages afterwards. I get shots of them laughing, brainstorming and sharing a toast. This environment is lighter and shows a nice human quality to professions that may seem

staunch. Brands really just want a more authentic representation of themselves and their partners.

WHAT NEW TRENDS ARE EMERGING IN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

We are seeing that the grooms are more involved and interested in all parts of the wedding. They want to help with catering, suits, location and most importantly the photos. Guys have always wanted to look good in their photos, but now they are taking more time to figure out what to wear, different poses and how to look their best. As a husband myself, I was in tune with my wedding, and it made me feel more a part of the process.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU OFFER FOR A SUCCESSFUL FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT?

Coming out of COVID, families just want to have fun together. I recommend finding a comfortable photo location that fits your family. We are getting a lot more requests to meet people in the summer on vacation, at their cabin, on a boat and at reunions. These spaces allow for more moments of true laughter and authentic smiles. At Vick Studios, we created Cabin Sessions, which has been curated to encompass these such moments. I come to the client – wherever that may be. The best photos are at a person’s happy place.

We also encourage people to make an event out of your photo session. Don’t let the fun stop when the camera gets put away. After you’re done, continue your day with the family. Get ice cream or go see a movie. This will create a lasting memory of your time together.

Lastly, I recommend planning your session out as much as possible. Think about your wardrobe, poses

STAGE

Vick Family

and props beforehand. Planning helps take the stress out of the actual photo shoot. We want clients to show up and not have to worry about anything other than being present.

HOW CAN FAMILIES LOOK THEIR BEST?

For outfits, I say comfort comes first and anchor the wardrobe on simple patterns with no more than three main colors. Women should try to avoid boxy looks that don’t show off their form. You want something that you can move and feel beautiful in.

I have noticed that the person booking a session is normally the one that plans everything out, which means all outfits should center around them. Make sure this person feels amazing first and then pick clothing pieces that coordinate with their colors. You always want to have complimenting hues for all outfits. Typical palettes include creams, nudes, blues and browns.

As far as positioning goes, movement is always best. I like to capture families naturally interacting with one another. For the more posed photos, lean towards the camera. Bodies tend to look better when their weight is forward slightly.

HOW HAS BEING A FATHER INTERTWINED WITH YOUR WORK?

When my two boys came into the world it changed my life and photography. I dedicated myself to picking up the camera in their first year of life wherever we went. Now since they are a little older, I take photos for their events, celebrations, vacations and many of their first landmarks. Representing both kids equally in photos of love around our home is a value we have and reminds us each day what we are grateful for.

WHO TAKES YOUR PICTURES?

We have many friends on our team at Vick Studios who know the beauty of our family enough to take our photos with me in them. It’s a fun practice to be on the other side of the camera and play with my family. I remind myself that we discipline other areas of our lives so why can’t we take thirty minutes once a year to document our own gold and remind us how good we have it?

Inspired by the blue-green waters of a cool northern spring, this historic hue from 1927 has modern relevance in kitchens and bathrooms as a standout piece or blended within your design. Coming summer 2023.
