Dear Eden Prairie Lifestyle reader,
I was taking a stroll around Purgatory Creek Park when I noticed it: a weak metallic glimmer just beneath the surface of the water. I waded out to investigate its source, which I discovered to be an 8th century Arabian oil lamp.
“Ah!” I exclaimed. “Abbasid Caliphate, if I’m not mistaken. This will look splendid next to my golf trophies. I’ll just give it a little polish with my sleeve here, and–”

KRA-KOOM! The orichalceous vessel burst suddenly to life, effusing spectacular lights and a faint scent of roses from its nozzle. The great plume of blue smoke billowing out contracted itself into the form of a towering genie, who bellowed and shot lightning from his fingers.
“Wow!” I said. “Neat!”
“Whoever so summons me shall be granted wishes three,” boomed the genie. “Speak.” I paused to gather my thoughts. “Well … I’ve never seen What Women Want starring Mel Gibson, so I’ve always kind of wondered,” I said. “What do women want? Can you tell me?”
“...OK,” answered the genie whilst cocking one eyebrow and running the tip of his beard between his thumb and forefinger. “I will tell you. You see, it’s actually quite simple. What women want is to read informative articles about local businesses and other points of interest around Eden Prairie. Healthcare providers. Fashion boutiques. Festivals. Vietnamese restaurants. Those kinds of things. Do you want me to keep going?”
“No need!” I answered. “That’ll do perfectly. It’s just the direction I needed before commencing work on the annual Ladies issue of Eden Prairie Lifestyle. Now, please remind me. How many wishes do I have left?”
“Two,” said the genie. “Choose wisely.”
“I don’t have to, because I already know what I want,” I said. “I wish I could thank all of Eden Prairie Lifestyle’s sponsors for their invaluable support – twice.”
The genie hesitated for a moment, undoubtedly touched by the magnanimity of my request. “Thy will be done,” he declared, and with a peal of thunder he and the spectacular lights and the faint scent of roses all whirled back into the lamp.
“Huh,” I said to myself, a bit befuddled. “Nothing seems to have happened. Maybe those last two wishes will somehow come true when I write the Ladies issue’s publisher’s letter.”

GO TO SCHOONER DAYS! ADMISSION IS FREE!
Round Lake Park will burst at the seams with EVERYTHING YOU LOVE on the last three days of May. Carnival rides that evoke hoots and hollers. Two full midways:
one just for children, and another for adults that will test all the adroitness you have honed by reading magazines over the years. Cuisine that will make you say Yes! Now this is cuisine I can get behind. It’s the pure Midwest carnival experience. And it’s for a great cause!
“The Eden Prairie Lions welcomed almost 18,000 people to Schooner Days last year,” said Terry Eggan, Lion. “We netted around $53,000, all proceeds from which went to our allied nonprofit organizations. Past years’ recipients have included Lions KidSight, which helps children avoid serious health issues worldwide, as well as the Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation, Lions Gift of Sight program, Can Do Canines, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and many other nonprofits doing great work for the visually impaired.
“The addition of our vendor marketplace has brought in increasing numbers of fairgoers in recent years. So too have our expanded marketing efforts, which include expertly written magazine articles. That’s why we expect 2026 to be our biggest Schooner Days ever – truly a can’t-miss occasion!”

“If your favorite beer isn’t being served at the Schooner Days beer garden, then that’s nothing a beer won’t fix.”
BUY FABULOUS STUFF! Schooner Days’ vendor marketplace will feature one-of-a-kind threads by Lucy Iburg, Minnesota Awesome, Mother Moon, and North Life Clothing; jewelry by Jewelry by Sammy; nifty steel decor by Rustic Metalz; perplexing playthings by 3dwoodenpuzzles; mystical treasures by Crooked Vine Emporium; colorful toys by 3Bros 3D Creatures and The Makers Den; bottled maple miracles by Under the Bark; delicious treatsies by Boba Tonka Bubble Tea, Dave's Coffee Cakes, Grandma's Cookies, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Mason Jar Madness, Sota-Licious, Sugar Creek, and Wanna Hava Shave Ice; and riveting offers by Burn Boot Camp, Dojo Karate, Lake Life Chiropractic, OneLife Corrective Chiropractic, T-Fiber, and Wings of the North.
There will even be Ivy Lace Mace Face Paint and henna by Mada Mehndi, so you can finally be pretty, like me.

EAT FABULOUS FOOD! This year’s Schooner Days will feature more food trucks than ever before. Will it be the largest gathering of food trucks ever to assemble in Minnesota? No! But it doesn’t have to be, because only the best food trucks will be present. Butcher and Bartender, which serves burgers and sausages that defy logic and reason. Eggroll Queen, which fries crispity things fit for kings. Smokestack Express, whose meatsies are paragons of delectability. Waffle Bar, whose menu is too thrilling to be synopsized in any way, shape or form. Granite Rock Stone Fired Pizza, serving pie that will make you say Oh my. Pierogi2Gogi, serving POLISH GOLD. They’ll be all yours to enjoy!
Craft beers by Fat Pants. Domestic beers by Grain Belt. Coors Light by … Coors. If your favorite beer isn’t being served at the Schooner Days beer garden, then that’s nothing a beer won’t fix. There will also be White Claws, nonalcoholic beverages, and both major colors of wines.
And what’s the perfect accompaniment to the perfect beverage? Bingo. Fate made material by tumbling orbs, seized from chaos in order to determine the winners of fabulous prizes. Do you like fabulous prizes? Then take your rightful place at Schooner Days’ Bingo Under the Big Top and daub, neighbor, daub!
The perfect way for children to cap off a day at the carnival? Finding out they might need glasses! Be sure to bring your own to Schooner Days’ vision screening booth: a free demonstration of Lions KidSight’s state-of-the-art technology, which takes only two seconds to determine whether a child should see an eye doctor.
Admission to Schooner Days is free as sunshine. So too is the constant shuttle service which makes parking convenient. Visit EPSchoonerDays.com today for individual attraction hours, the complete list of vendors, and a map of all the neat places you can park.

STARS OF THE NORTH WELCOMES ALL CHILDREN TO FLYING CLOUD AIRPORT ON SEPTEMBER 19TH
ARTICLE
BY
DAVID SCHELLER
BY VICTORIA DELSHIRE

According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Poll and LEGO, 29 percent of children aspire to become professional YouTubers when they grow up. In statistics, findings such as this are referred to as “bleak.”
Stars of the North – the Minneapolis area chapter of Women in Aviation International, which envisions a sky that is open to all – is showing children something far more uplifting to aspire to be. Slip the surly bonds of Earth by becoming an aviation or aerospace professional , says Stars of the North. Join us at Girls in Aviation Day, which we are hosting at Flying Cloud Airport this September!
"Slip the surly bonds of Earth by becoming an aviation or aerospace professional,” says Stars of the North.

“Women in Aviation International has more than 170 chapters worldwide,” said Laurel Winter, president of Stars of the North. “Ours is the largest. So too is our Girls in Aviation Day, which welcomes up to 3,000 children and their adults to Eden Prairie’s airport each year.”
The United States Airforce Academy. The Metropolitan Airports Commission. Delta, SouthWest, Sun Country, Endeavor, and Collins Aerospace. AV8 Flight School, the University of North Dakota, and Minnesota State University, Mankato. These and more than 50 other exhibitors will attend the big day.
“They all set up inside an enormous hangar, where they present information, displays and giveaways at kid-friendly booths, some with activities and swag,” said Laurel. “Our own volunteers have designated space featuring over one dozen different STEM experiences and activities. A few are accessible to children of all ages, such as one where participants learn airplane marshalling signals using light-up foam batons. It makes for an awesome dance party on the tarmac while ‘Danger Zone’ plays!
“Most activities are a little more advanced, being geared toward children
ages 8 to 18. I particularly enjoy the exhibit where maintenance personnel showcase the tools of their trade while teaching children how to snip, ply and rivet their own airplane-shaped cookie cutters. Kids especially enjoy the Metropolitan Airports Commission’s table, where they design their own airports using colorful construction materials. Some don’t quite grasp the finer points of runway placement, but their creative use of sparkles more than makes up for that shortcoming.”
Girls in Aviation Day features virtual reality simulations. Don goggles. Dart through obstacles. Rack up points.

"For want of a better word, flying makes me feel grounded. My only regret is not realizing my dream job sooner."
Win candy! Another exhibit introduces children to the physical stress fighter pilots and astronauts must endure. “It’s nothing involving multiple G-forces,” assured Laurel. “Think along the lines of getting spun around in a motorized desk chair and challenged to throw a paper airplane with any degree of accuracy.”
The true stars of the show are parked just outside the exhibition hangar. “We will have over 30 aircraft on display this year,” said Laurel. “Past years’ Girls in Aviation Days have featured decommissioned military aircraft, giant commuter planes, small private planes and jets, pontoon planes, firefighting planes, Life Link III’s emergency medical transport helicopter, and the very same helicopter the Department of Natural Resources uses to count moose (among other things). Children are welcome to enter most of the aircraft, sit inside their flight decks, and speak one-on-one with their knowledgeable and passionate crew members.
“I love working in aviation,” Laurel continued. “I’d never imagined my life could be so exhilarating before becoming
a pilot. For want of a better word, flying makes me feel grounded. My only regret is not realizing my dream job sooner.
“That, at its heart, is why Stars of the North hosts Girls in Aviation Day. We’re showing kids that nothing is preventing them from enjoying such rewarding careers, and guiding them toward resources that can help them take off. A number of young adults who attended past events are due to arrive in their very own planes this year, including an Eden Prairie High School alumna who previously participated in our Rising Stars program.
“If your child is like she was – champing at the bit to take to the sky – then we encourage you to bring them to Flying Cloud Airport this September. Even if they have shown no interest in flying, that’s bound to change once they behold the spectacle of aviation up close!”
This year’s Girls in Aviation Day will be held at Flying Cloud Airport from 10am until 2pm on September 19th. Food trucks, which aren’t technically aircraft, will also be present. Visit StarsOfTheNorth.org to learn more!

HEALTHIER MOMS. HEALTHIER BABIES. HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS FOR LIFE.
ARTICLE BY DAVID SCHELLER

“As first-time parents, this program helped us in learning a lot of new things which made our pregnancy journey beautiful. The care provided by doctors and staff was compassionate.”
– New Mom A
“We would 100 percent do this program again! With it being our first, we were brought so much comfort going through this with parents on our same timeline.”
– New Mom B
“We loved it! My husband is also so happy he was included. We both learned so much in preparation for our first baby.”
– New Mom C
“We thought the program was excellent! It made us a lot more comfortable being able to discuss things as a group of couples going through the same experience.”
– New Mom D
“The program was great! We learned a lot and it made us confident and excited for parenthood.”
– New Mom E
The reviews are unanimous. Premier Women’s Health of Minnesota OBGYN West’s inaugural Premier Prenatal Collaborative is a resounding success, with nine beautiful babies, nine healthy mothers, and nine relieved fathers to show for it.
“I’m glad I could take your call!” Dr. Jennifer Smolinski’s voice rang out from my phone. “I was called to the hospital for an urgent delivery just a couple of hours ago. Fortunately, the baby seemed to be in a hurry to make his grand entrance.
“The deliveries I perform for my patients are only the culminating moments of the time we share together. That’s why my husband Dr. Matthew Bigos and I love being with OBGYN West. We develop genuine, lasting relationships with our patients – often before they so much as think of conceiving, and long after they have become moms. We’re here for the whole journey!
“That’s what motivated us to begin offering the Premier Prenatal Collaborative: a physician-led eight-session program combining one-on-one care with group classes. It helps moms-to-be and their partners gain greater confidence, develop a deeper understanding of prenatal and postpartum care, and form friendships with other parents looking forward to similar due dates.
“The Premier Prenatal Collaborative may be the first program of its kind in the Twin Cities, but it isn’t totally our invention. It’s based on a model of prenatal care that is already popular throughout the East Coast, and which I observed firsthand during my own residency in Pennsylvania. Studies have shown it to improve birth outcomes, including reduced risk of premature birth, cesarean delivery, and emergency/triage visits.
“Better yet, gathering as many as 20 parents-to-be per program allows us to spend substantially more time with each than routine care alone would have. And while unavoidable circumstances often require doctors like my husband and I to cancel one-on-one

appointments, Premier Prenatal Collaborative sessions are set in stone. Participants will see a physician at each and every one.
“Each monthly, 90-minute session is divided into multiple phases. The first is dedicated to individual consultations, during which we check vitals and answer any private questions participants might have. Next comes the group presentation, in which we discuss topics that pertain to the gestational age shared by every expecting mother in the room. We finish with group activities, or a special guest speaker followed by audience Q and A. For example, we welcomed a nutritionist to address the subject of healthy diet and weight gain during pregnancy, as well as a lactation expert to speak about all the different types of breast pumps that are available.
“Participants in the first-ever Premier Prenatal Collaborative took peace of mind from learning which pregnancy symptoms are perfectly normal or deserving of medical intervention. They understood that they weren’t alone if they experienced common complications such as gestational diabetes, kidney stones, preeclampsia, mastitis, low milk production, or postpartum depression, as well as what they could do to realize healthier, more comfortable transitions into motherhood.
“Every participant put their new knowledge to great use. One presented to the hospital upon recognizing the signs of preterm labor at 34 weeks. A second identified the signs of preeclampsia, and quickly presented to the hospital before her blood pressures became severe. Another needed a C-section – a procedure I understand all too well, having received it myself on three separate occasions – and expressed feeling confident knowing precisely what to expect.
“My husband and I delivered every baby belonging to our first cohort of Premier Prenatal Collaborative participants. Parents’ impressions of the program were universally positive, which excites us for the sessions we will soon begin hosting for those with upcoming due dates. If you expect to be expecting in 2027, then now isn’t too soon to sign up for the Premier Prenatal Collaborative at OBGYN West’s Chaska clinic!”
Visit PremierWomensHealthMN.com to learn more about OBGYN West’s health partnerships for life, or call (952) 249-2000 to book an appointment at any of their four clinics throughout the west metro.

Some chiropractors solely rely on their hands and intuition while assessing patients. Others combine that same technique with advanced technology, closely measuring how the spine moves and the nervous system is functioning.
If you’re in pain or not moving as freely as you once did, and you would rather avoid jumping to medication or surgery, which approach would you prefer? One guided only by touch? Or one that pairs clinical skill with high tech designed to pinpoint the source of your problem?
Dr. Amanda Haeg and Dr. Topher Atwood take the complete approach to evaluation. Cadence Chiropractic is the sole office utilizing the Pierce Results System, which combines thermography scanning to assess adaptation within the nervous system and biomechanical analysis via postural and motion X-ray. The doctors scrutinize every which way each patient’s spine flexes, extends, rotates, and bends in real time – and, thus informed, unlock problematic joints until they move as they’re meant to.

“I’m a perfectionist by nature,” said Dr. Haeg. “That’s why my practice centers around detectable issues, methodical treatment, and measurable results. I need to be precise."
“Many people imagine chiropractic as twisting and popping. Our approach is different. Using a specialized drop table and exact positioning, we apply gentle adjustments intended to restore motion to specific joints. Alongside gravity, those precise applications of force are all that are needed to treat a vast range of conditions. Sports injuries. Whiplash. Even the physical strain that can accompany pregnancy. They’re all fair game to a Pierce Results System practitioner.
“Many of our patients are seniors, who aren’t content to accept arthritis as a normal part of aging. And they’re right. Spinal alignment and motion influence how joints load and function over time. When joints’ motion is restricted, abnormal stress can contribute to degeneration. Restoring healthy motion may help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support stronger joint function.

throughout the body reinforces improvements in sciatica, degenerative disc disease, shoulder pain, elbow pain, wrist pain, ear infection, vertigo, and even challenges related to sensory processing and nervous system regulation.
"WE SAY IT QUITE OFTEN HERE, BECAUSE IT’S TRUE: MOTION IS LIFE. IT’S THE THING THAT GUIDES US, AND WHICH WE EXIST TO RESTORE IN FULL.”
“Our goal at Cadence Chiropractic isn’t just to provide temporary relief. It’s also to help patients understand how their bodies move so they can maintain better long-term health. We say it quite often here, because it’s true: Motion is life. It’s the thing that guides us, and which we exist to restore in full.”
“Arthritis is just one of countless conditions that can benefit from restoration of the brain-body connection. Spinal motion assessment can reveal patterns contributing to headaches, lower back pain, sciatica, and joint discomfort from office work and manual labor. Optimizing structure and motion supports better control over the pelvic floor, which is a common source of incontinence later in life and following pregnancy. In many cases, boosting spinal motion and nervous system communication
“Cadence Chiropractic offers yet another form of treatment that I discovered to be life changing during my own recovery journey,” said Dr. Haeg, who was temporarily hobbled in the wake of a brutal football injury she sustained in her twenties. “Contrast therapy: an infrared sauna and cold plunge tub, which, when used in rapid succession, have been shown to help to reduce pain, improve sleep, strengthen immunity, and increase blood flow. While contrast therapy can be beneficial on its own, many of our patients find it complements their chiropractic care quite well!”
Cadence Chiropractic is located at 6409 City West Parkway #105 in Eden Prairie. You can learn more about Dr. Haeg and her practice at CadenceChiroMN.com. You may book your initial consultation or reserve your session at the Contrast Suite online or by calling (952) 855-7656.

For many women, this stage of life brings increased responsibility, more complex decisions, and less time to manage it all independently. As markets transition into a slower and less predictable environment, the focus should shift away from short-term movement and toward long-term direction. Wealth is not built in moments of market momentum. It is built through disciplined, intentional planning that aligns with your life, your priorities, and the people you care about most.
Markets will fluctuate. That is constant. Your strategy should not. This is an appropriate time to pause, reassess your goals, and confirm that your financial plan reflects both where you are today and where you intend to go.
At Demery Wealth Advisors, we work with accomplished women who value clarity, structure, and a professional advisory relationship.
Market conditions will change. A well-constructed plan provides consistency. Stay aligned with what matters most.

Painting Happy: A Thoughtful Approach to Home Transformation in the Southwest Metro

In a community like Eden Prairie, where homes reflect both personal style and everyday life, even small updates can make a meaningful difference. For Sara and Kelly Morlock, owners of CertaPro Painters of Southwest Metro, that idea has guided their work from the very beginning.
For more than a decade, they’ve built their business around one simple focus – how a project feels from start to finish, not just how it looks when it’s done.
Longtime residents of Chanhassen, Sara and Kelly raised their two children in the same community they now serve. Before starting their business, both spent more than 25 years in corporate careers – Kelly in sales and marketing, and Sara in human resources.
As they approached an empty-nest stage of life, they began thinking about what might come next.
“We wanted something more personal,” Sara says. “Something where we could really see the impact of what we were doing.”
In 2012, they found that opportunity with CertaPro Painters. What stood out wasn’t just the work itself, but the chance to build something rooted in relationships – with both customers and the team they would grow locally.
Over time, their work has naturally grown through the community. In neighborhoods like Bearpath and across Eden Prairie, many of their projects come from repeat clients and referrals – something Sara and Kelly don’t take for granted. In fact, more than a third of their work comes from clients they’ve worked with before or who were referred by someone they trust.
They’ve also become a trusted resource for local Realtors, often helping prepare homes for market with thoughtful updates that make a meaningful difference without overcomplicating the process.
In addition to residential work, their team has partnered with local businesses over the years – quietly becoming a familiar name for those looking for a steady, reliable approach.
“There’s a lot of trust involved when someone invites you into their home,” Kelly says. “We never take that lightly.”
While the finished result matters, much of their focus is on everything that happens along the way.
“A painting project has a lot of moving parts,” Sara explains. “It’s not just the work –it’s the communication along the way.”
From the initial consultation through scheduling, preparation, painting, and final walkthrough, there are countless moments where things can either feel smooth – or become frustrating.
Sara and Kelly have built their process around managing those moments carefully. Clear expectations, consistent communication, and thoughtful follow-up are all part of how they operate.
It’s what they refer to as delivering an “Extraordinary Experience” – not as a tagline, but as a reflection of how they approach each step of the process.
That same mindset carries through to how they run the business.
They don’t ask for a deposit upfront –something that often surprises new clients. Instead, they complete the work first, then follow up to make sure everything feels right before closing out the project.
“It’s just how we believe it should be,” Kelly says.
CONTINUED >

No two homes – or homeowners – are exactly alike, and that’s something Sara and Kelly have come to appreciate over the years.
For some, it’s about maintaining and protecting the exterior of their home after years of wear. For others, it’s finally updating a kitchen, refreshing a main living space, or choosing colors they’ve been thinking about for a long time.
“A lot of times people know they want a change, they just don’t know where to start,” Sara says. “We enjoy helping them figure that out and making it feel simple.”
What’s grown over time is not just a business, but a network of relationships throughout the community.
Many of their projects today come from past clients or referrals – people who remember not just how their home turned out, but how the experience felt.
Their goal has stayed consistent from the beginning: to be the kind of company people feel comfortable calling again – and recommending without hesitation.
After more than 14 years, what continues to motivate them is simple.
They enjoy the work. They value the relationships. And they take pride in being part of a community they’ve called home for decades.
Because in the end, it’s not really about paint.
It’s about walking into your home and feeling like it fits you – every single day.

“It was my eighth birthday, a couple years after my family emigrated from Vietnam,” reminisced Michael Bui, owner of Pho Mai. “My mom made a special cake for me to bring to school and share with my classmates. They hated it. Threw it right in the trash.
“I don’t like admitting this, but I didn’t blame my classmates back then. I also hated Vietnamese food. It was the only thing I had to eat at home growing up. Sometimes you just want a burger, you know? I bet I was the only kid in town who actually looked forward to school lunches.”

Michael’s punishment for such puerile ingratitude? Dormitory food, which made his mom’s pho, banh mi, and com tam seem like the manna they are.
“I’d count down the hours until I could go home from Carlson and eat real food,” said Michael. “I also looked forward to helping out at my parents’ restaurant. Vina Plus: the best pho in St. Paul, hands down, because the head chef (i.e. my mom) was totally undistracted by profitability. For her, it was a labor of love. It was the same way for my dad, whose engineering salary kept Vina Plus afloat.”
Michael split off from the family business in his pursuit of the American dream. A JD from Hamline. An MBA from Capella. A three-decade-long career in IT, which has made him the network manager of a tech company in downtown Minneapolis.
“Support from an outstanding community, a whole lot of hard work, and the good fortune to have grown up in the greatest country on earth to pursue success in,” said Michael. “They have all put me in a position to share what I now love best: Vietnamese food!”
Michael’s initial foray into restaurateurship began and ended in 2005; an edifying yet ill-fated stint running a bakery in Brooklyn Park. Ten years later, he joined his mother and older brother at MT Noodles, which still operates in Brooklyn Park. In 2020, he opened the inaugural Pho Mai in Dinkytown alongside Peter Do, his wife’s brother.
“And then, in 2022, something amazing happened: the grand opening of Asia Mall in Eden Prairie,” said Michael. “It meant a lot to me, seeing a showcase of Asian food and culture spring up right in my hometown of 20 years, where my wife and I raised our four children. Finally! A chance to feed our neighbors.”
Michael opened Pho Mai, Bober Tea, and Mochi Dough at Asia Mall in 2023. Keefer Court Bakery & Desserts followed the year after. His secret weapon? Two of the culinary world’s hardest hitters: Anh, his mom, and Mai, his wife.
“My mom is an inspiration – 72 years old, and working just as many hours a week,” said Michael. “She’s the only person I know who brings her own cookware on vacation. She still travels back to her hometown of My Tho (the ‘MT’ in MT Noodles) fairly often, and never returns without some great new ideas for our restaurants.
“It always brings me happiness, seeing people come to Pho Mai to embrace a culture that isn’t their own.”

“Mai, as you might imagine, is the heart of Pho Mai. She also grew up in her family’s restaurant – Saigon City, in what used to be the Como Shop in St. Paul – but unlike me, she was born with real culinary talent. She’s the one who knows how to make our tantalizing pho broth, which requires the freshest of bones, a delicate blend of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, fennel seed, and clove, and 24 hours of careful attendance. She’s also a virtuoso at making the fresh liver pate, lightly pickled carrots, special sauce (a secret family recipe), and everything else that goes into the perfect banh mi. That sandwich is the main reason why we started our own bakery.
“It’s impossible to pick my favorite Pho Mai menu item. I definitely love our spring rolls. They’re served ‘unassembled,’ with the rice paper, homemade pork sausage, rice noodles, and crunchy vegetables you need to roll your own. (Don’t worry! We’ll teach you how.) Our egg rolls are also exceptional; golden brown, and packed with meat (perfect if you don’t like the ‘fried salad’ egg rolls at some other restaurants). Mai is also the mastermind behind the lo mein, sesame chicken, and other classic dishes that many Americans find to be a more accessible entry point to Asian cuisine.
“If you’re somehow not full after that, head across the mall to Bober Tea and Mochi Dough for dessert. Nothing pairs better than boba tea made with fresh strawberries and an ooey-chewy-crispy mochi donut. We donate hundreds of those donuts to Eden Prairie Schools’ annual teachers’ summit every year, as thanks for everything they’ve done for our kids. We bring them to the Eden Prairie Police Department sometimes, too, because … well, they’re cops. They need donuts.
“It always brings me happiness, seeing people come to Pho Mai to embrace a culture that isn’t their own. Americans have become a lot more receptive to new experiences than my classmates were 40 years ago! That cake they threw away on my eighth birthday? Our bakery can’t make enough of it to keep up with demand. We sell out all the time.
“It’s incredibly humbling to watch so much hard work pay off, and just as satisfying to welcome my community to an affordable meal. Dinner at Pho Mai for a party of four costs less than $100, easily. Come today and see!”
Pho Mai and Asia Mall are located at 12160 Technology Drive in Eden Prairie. Visit PhoMai.com to learn more.

Exceptional care, tailored to each patient's unique needs, provided whenever and wherever it's needed. This is the new soul of healthcare: LX Medical, whose concierge practice puts physicians, physician associates, nurse practitioners, and other health experts including Minnesota's most reputable specialists at patients' immediate service. No jumping through hoops. No back and forth. No wait times. It is the truest meaning of the doctor will see you now.
LX Medical's mission extends beyond providing primary and urgent care in the comfort of patients' homes. Their practitioners are also helping people occupy healthier, longer-lasting bodies in a transformative approach to lifelong wellness they call "longevity medicine" – an appealing prospect to those who intend to see and savor their triple digits.
"I started out in family medicine, then worked in surgery and urgent care before joining LX Medical," said JoAna Werner, Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C; a licensed professional trained to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication). "I had great experiences in those fields, but could never come to terms with how little I could ultimately do for people. Family medicine, which affords barely enough time to apply a bandage and prescribe medication before seeing the next patient, was particularly frustrating.
"LX Medical lets me practice medicine the way I'd always hoped to. I'm now able to treat each of my patients as a complete person – not as a series of one-off problems, but as the whole human being they actually are."
LX Medical's abandonment of the constrictive fee-for-service model frees JoAna to request unconventionally comprehensive lab work and prescribe treatment regardless of insurance providers' opinions.
"The blood work we perform is significantly more comprehensive than what a traditional provider would order," JoAna explained. "We check all the same kidney, liver, thyroid, and other biological markers. But our personalized, evidence-based approach goes incomparably deeper, examining patients' genetics, gut biomes, cardiovascular health, food sensitivities, environmental toxins, and any other facets of their well-being that merit insight.
"Once we understand the whole person and identify root causes, we optimize their health by combining traditional, functional, and integrative medicine's best interventions. Lifestyle changes. Nutritional supplements. Peptides. Regenerative medicine. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, which treats

imbalance through administration of chemically identical plant-derived hormones, and in which I am certified. These are just some of our methods for treating the whole you."
The results speak for themselves.
One patient came to JoAna with severe joint pain. Testing revealed food sensitivities and gastrointestinal dysfunction. After eliminating trigger foods and beginning a targeted regimen of peptides and probiotics, her pain was minimal within two months. She recently ran a half marathon.
Another was struggling to lose weight and teetering toward a diabetes diagnosis. JoAna prescribed lifestyle changes, a whole-foods diet, and hormone replacement. Forty-five pounds lost in four months.
A third suffered persistent bloating, nausea, and gas. JoAna diagnosed small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, to be treated with a specialized diet and antibiotic regimen. She is now comfortable and symptom-free.
A fourth endured recurrent infections, chronic fatigue, and brain fog. Testing uncovered mycotoxin illness. After mold remediation and a structured detoxification plan, she is now energized, sleeping soundly, and free of recurrent illness.
"Those are only four recent successes that come to mind," JoAna continued. "To be sure, I treat men! Though I feel a particular empathy toward women, for reasons that are largely
self-evident. Our hormonal systems are far more intricate, and have conventionally been overlooked by traditional medicine. That’s unfortunate, because it's not remotely uncommon for women to experience loss of energy, motivation, and libido around perimenopause and menopause. Hormonal changes accompanying those milestones can make sleeping, losing weight, and thinking clearly more difficult as well.
"Hormone replacement is only one way I help optimize my patients' health. There are too many others to list, because LX Medical gives patients access to every evidence-based therapy that could possibly prove beneficial.
"Every provider wishes their patients longer, healthier lives. LX Medical is different, because it actually empowers me to make that a reality. Some of my patients are very young and desire the guidance they need to avoid future complications. Many more are seniors who know there are things they could have done better, but are no less determined to reach and fully enjoy advanced age. I help all of them feel better, now and in the future. At LX Medical, quality and quantity of life are of equal importance."

A home should be more than just a place to live. It should tell a story about the people inside it. That philosophy sits at the heart of Ruby+Suede, a full-service interior design studio based in Savage and Excelsior that believes every space should reflect the personality, lifestyle, and aspirations of its owner.
Although Ruby+Suede officially launched as an independent design studio six years ago, its story began more than 20 years earlier. The team originally operated as the design arm of Highmark Builders starting in 2003, and has since grown into a studio serving a wider audience. Today, Ruby+Suede partners with builders, remodelers, and homeowners alike, providing everything from full-home design services to smaller-scale projects like furnishings and window treatments.
“We do all of the design for new homes, remodels, furniture, furnishings—really everything,” says Senior Interior Designer Kristen Schammel, who has been with the studio since the beginning. “Everything design Ruby+Suede can handle.”
The studio’s team includes ten interior designers who specialize in different areas, from kitchens and baths to restoration projects for homeowners recovering from events like floods or fires. Designers also work alongside project managers, allowing them to collaborate efficiently and support clients throughout the entire process.
That versatility is one of Ruby+Suede’s defining traits. The team might help one client design a new home from the ground up while assisting another with a single-room refresh.

“If there’s something that excites you, go all in on it. We can always find a way to incorporate it into the design.”
“We do everything from helping people with an office space to building a new house from scratch,” says Senior Interior Designer Megan Dent, who joined the studio in 2025 after more than a decade in the industry. “Rugs, furniture, exteriors—new paint, stone, lighting—we’re very versatile in the way we help people.”
At Ruby+Suede, design always begins with understanding the client. Megan explains that the initial discovery meetings are focused on getting to know homeowners and uncovering what inspires them.
“In the beginning, we’re basically strangers, so we’re learning a lot about each other,” Megan says. “We ask a lot of questions and look at their inspiration images. Clients often gravitate toward certain photos without realizing why, and we help them understand what they’re responding to.”

Designers then combine those insights with practical considerations like budget and lifestyle to create spaces that feel both personal and functional.
When couples have different design preferences, collaboration becomes even more important.
“Compromise is key,” Kristen says. “There are a lot of similarities between styles in terms of color and tone. It’s about incorporating those details so everything still feels cohesive.”
That approach allows the team to work across a wide range of aesthetics, from coastal and farmhouse to transitional designs that blend multiple influences.
Because Ruby+Suede works across so many styles, designers often focus on the details that give each space its own personality. Smaller rooms like home offices, powder rooms, and bathrooms are often ideal places to experiment with elements that feel more expressive or personal.
For some homeowners, that can mean incorporating softer, more feminine touches that help a room feel warm and inviting.
“Soft lines and curves add warmth,” Kristen explains. “Warmer color tones, softer lighting, and floral prints are really popular right now.”
Megan encourages homeowners to embrace the elements that genuinely excite them.
“If there’s something that excites you, go all in on it,” she says. “We can always find a way to incorporate it into the design.”
Wallpaper is one design feature the Ruby+Suede team frequently uses to bring personality and texture into a room. Once considered outdated, wall coverings have made a major comeback and can instantly elevate a space.
“You can go with something classic and timeless, or choose a subtle texture if you’re nervous about bold patterns,” Kristen says.
Bathrooms are another place where thoughtful details can transform the atmosphere. Raising a shower curtain to ceiling height, layering lighting with dimmers or backlit mirrors, or adding a patterned runner instead of a standard bath mat can soften a room often dominated by tile and stone, helping create a more spa-like environment.
For homeowners looking to refresh their space without committing to a full renovation, the designers noted that the first step might be simpler than expected.
“Decluttering can make a huge difference,” Megan says. “Sometimes homes feel tired because they’re filled with things you don’t love anymore.”
Kristen also suggested redistributing décor throughout the home.
“Sometimes what I like to do is take my décor from my main areas and bedrooms, put them all in one place, then disperse them into a new area around the house,” she says. “Just switching things around can make your home feel new again.”
Whether they’re designing a new home from the ground up or refreshing a single room, the Ruby+Suede team keeps the focus on the same thing: the people who will live in the space. Because the most beautiful homes aren’t just well designed, they’re deeply personal. RubyAndSuede.com

WOW! It is spring! Time to wear bland, tired clothing without an ounce of pizazz or personality to it.
WAIT! That is wrong. Spring is actually time to wear inspired and colorful fashions – ones that are curated by a keen eye for the stuff, and right here in Eden Prairie no less!
Shopping is Gina Pellegrini's life calling, and has been since her introduction to the pursuit at age ten. “I’ll never forget the day my glamorous aunt, on a visit from Italy, brought me to Marshall Field’s – the most opulent of all Chicago department stores,” reminisced Gina. “I grew to love everything there is to about shopping; not just the best part, but also how brands, styles, and layouts blend together into the perfect experience.”
Gina spent decades dreaming about what her own boutique would be like. Through the ternary powers of ambition, determination, and a successful career in the financial services industry, that dream finally manifested as a pop-up store in 2017, and then as a brickand-mortar just off the intersection of Pioneer Trail and 169 two years later.
FDJ. Tribal. Jen & Co. Lulu B. You will find these and many other brands of clothing, purses and accessories at Bella Gina Boutique. You’ll also find relatively few examples of each piece.
“This is my passion project,” said Gina. “That means I get to be particular about what it offers for sale! They’re mostly items my niece Kristina and I discovered at fashion shows around the country, which we have personally tried on and adore. And because everyone loves variety as much as they do one-of-a-kind looks, we typically avoid carrying multiples of the same size in any given style.”
CONTINUED >

Chic fashion is only one element of Gina’s vision. Another is the warm and personable service that nearly exclusively exists as fossil evidence nowadays.
“Most ladies just want to peruse during their first visit, of course,” said Gina. “And we totally understand that this is the Midwest, where pushy salespeople are a common phobia. But as soon as someone requests help with sizing, or finding the right accessories to complement the look she’s going for, or coordinating a garment with a piece of her existing wardrobe, we are only too happy to be there for her. And when one asks for guidance expanding her horizons with a fresh new style or color? Well, then we’re in heaven.
Several of our repeat customers (who we call ‘Bella Beauties’) ask us to set aside a few pieces or create an ensemble they’ll like before visiting our store. It’s always a delight to see their eyes light up. There’s nothing better than sharing that exciting moment of discovery.”
There is much to discover, as Bella Gina Boutique leaves the basics to the bigger stores. “We specialize in the bold and the unique; memorable fashions, that will never go out of style,” explained Gina. “People often ask me where they can find whichever clothing I’m wearing. They’re disappointed when they learn I stopped offering it years ago!”
Would you like the next special occasion you host to be the best kind – i.e. one very heavily focused on shopping? Make Bella Gina Boutique its venue! You and the ladies can reenact that one montage from Pretty Woman while Gina and company take care of all the refreshments. (You may keep the $100 store credit awarded to hostesses a secret if you wish.)
Did you forget to get your mother, wife, sister, daughter, or other important female relation something nice for Mother’s Day? That’s OK! It happens to the best of us. I do it all the time. Fortunately, the solution is simple: proceed forthwith to 10165 Hennepin Town Road #109, Eden Prairie Wednesday through Saturday to purchase a thoughtful gift, or visit BellaGinaBoutique.com to educate yourself.

ACHIEVE VIBRANCY AND WELLBEING WITH INTEGRATIVE, WHOLE-PERSON CARE

ARTICLE BY DAVID SCHELLER

A SLOW AND STEADY DECLINE. It’s a future many people accept for themselves – but they don’t have to. TruNorth Vitality Clinic stands that fatalistic view of aging on its head. Rather than frail and creaky, their patients are becoming healthier and more vibrant with each candle they add to their birthday cakes.
“Solely cosmetic. Not grounded in science. Those describe the treatments offered by too many of the longevity clinics in the Twin Cities,” said Michele Maiers, DC, PhD, MPH, and executive director of research and innovation for Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU). “As an academic institution comprised of integrative healthcare experts who value evidence-informed treatments, we knew we could provide much better to our aging community.
“Every practitioner behind TruNorth Vitality Clinic believes healthy aging to be something worth celebrating and championing. We are passionate about helping members attain their fullest potential regardless of where their lives have taken them, and tailoring personalized care to each one-of-a-kind patient in an inclusive ‘one-stop shop’ for complementary and integrative health.”
“TruNorth Vitality Clinic encapsulates modalities that are demonstrably effective and performed by experts in their respective fields,” said Megan Hadley, MA, national board certified health and wellness coach, and reiki practitioner. “We are especially proud to offer the expertise of Dr. Beau Foshee, whose personal mission is supporting patients in achieving ‘vivessence’: authentically, vibrantly embodied aging. Dr. Foshee is a profoundly skilled chiropractor, who sensed tension and soft tissue problems that I was unaware I had through touch alone.
“Dr. Mary Nolan, our expert on acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, specializes in helping the body regain ideal function by balancing the energy that is central to good health. As a practitioner of Chinese medicine, Dr. Nolan also provides tui na, food therapy, and consultations for products we offer for sale at the herbal dispensary right here on campus.

“OURS IS A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH THAT REGARDS THE PATIENT’S BIOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY, SPIRITUALITY AND HISTORY AS A WHOLE. IT’S ALL IN SERVICE OF GIVING OUR PATIENTS TRUE AUTONOMY OVER THEIR WELLBEING AND GREATER AGENCY IN THEIR HEALTHCARE.”
“Colette King is a preternaturally talented massage therapist; a trauma-informed practitioner in full, whose close attunement to her patient’s body enables her to restore it to the condition in which it heals itself best. And last (but not least) is me! As a level two Usui Reiki practitioner, I serve as a conduit that calms the body and helps amplify its innate restorative abilities. And as a health coach, I regularly meet with new members in need of guidance toward creating a healthier lifestyle.
“We’re happy to help anyone live a longer, healthier life, though personal experience has taught me just how well suited integrative, whole-person care is to the aging population. Seniors have typically been through falls, surgeries, and emotional injuries that affect their wellbeing in unquantifiable ways. Traditional medicine tends to favor disjointed, one-size-fits-all interventions for their issues. Conversely, TruNorth Vitality Clinic practitioners recognize that all things are interconnected, which is the essence of holism. Ours is a trauma-informed approach that regards the patient’s biology, psychology, spirituality and history as a whole.
It’s all in service of giving our patients true autonomy over their wellbeing and greater agency in their healthcare.
“Whether you are interested in one of our à la carte services or a comprehensive strategy for navigating age-related health transitions, I would be delighted to sit down with you in our clinic. We also offer multiple group programs, such as Seasons of Health Creation, which I lead; From Surviving to Thriving in Menopause, headed by our functional medicine trained integrative nurse practitioner Dr. Laura Sandquist; and Dana Brumitt’s Tai Ji Quan Moving for Better Balance. We just added a fall prevention program which showcases our clinic’s new agility and balance circuit training equipment. I also encourage you to check out our Vitality Series, which are one or two free monthly online events dedicated to overall health and longevity!”

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”

“On Easter Day the veil between time and eternity thins to gossamer.” – Douglas Horton

Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. – Matthew 28:5-7
From sorrow, joy.
From darkness, light.
From sin, salvation, and the promise of life eternal.
Did you let Easter pass you by this year? Don’t repeat that mistake next March. Eden Prairie’s own Grace Church welcomes you to come and pay thanks for God’s perfect gift. His Son. His love. Our hope!
“Together, Good Friday and Easter Sunday are our biggest weekend of the year,” said Becky Mielke of Grace Church. “We welcomed over 20,000 men, women, and children to our chapel and auditorium on those days last April, but we still had room for more.
“Good Friday is the far more somber service. It is dedicated to meaningful reflection and remembrance of our Lord and Savior’s death, and includes a convincing yet tasteful live reenactment of His crucifixion.
“But Easter Sunday? It’s all about joy. Pastor Troy Dobbs trades solemnity for elation as he preaches about resurrection and rebirth from a pulpit festooned in flowers. His sermon this year set a wonderful tone for what followed: the baptisms of more than 40 new believers in Christ.
“While Easter is the perfect time to connect – or reconnect – with God, Grace Church’s doors are open year round. If the day somehow managed to slip past you, don’t wait until 2027 to visit our beautiful nondenominational church. Join the congregation at 9:00 or 10:40am this coming Sunday, or watch Pastor Dobbs’ recent services online at Grace.church.”
