Dear Eden Prairie Lifestyle reader,
THERE I WAS – just minding my own business, walking back to my car after buying the extremely high-quality beef jerky from SCHEELS that I need in order to maintain my present level of magazine publishing excellence – when I saw it: an alien spaceship of maddening immensity, blocking out the sky over the entirety of Eden Prairie! You may recall seeing this also.
“Wow!” I said. “Would you look at that!”

Suddenly, a giant aperture opened up on the formerly perfectly smooth underbelly of the ship, revealing a great glowing blue disk. A column of pulsating light shot down and engulfed me within an antigravity field, which yanked me up into the ship with surprising gingerness.
Once inside, I was immediately confronted by gray aliens. One of them spoke to me through a special translator device. He said: “Σε
“Erm … sorry,” I interrupted. “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
The gray alien muttered a couple of space obscenities under his breath whilst turning a dial on the device. “Sorry, sorry,” he said. “I thought you were Greek. To resume: We have abducted you because you are a magazine publisher, and therefore knowledgeable on many subjects. Please, tell us if there’s any reason why we shouldn’t blow up your planet to make room for a new Space Dairy Queen.”
“Oh, gosh!” I exclaimed. “Is that all? Well … it’s actually pretty simple. You shouldn’t do that, because my planet is home to the greatest Twin Cities suburb in the whole galaxy. That verdant little patch of paradise you just plucked me off of? It’s called ‘Eden Prairie.’ It is a wonderful place filled with kind, humble, magazine-reading people, who have created the most splendid community I’ve ever had the privilege of joining. It’s also where the majority of my clients are.”
The gray aliens conferred amongst themselves energetically. They seemed to reach some kind of accord.
“OK,” said the translator. “Eden Prairie does indeed sound like a pretty chill place. Consider your planet unblown up. But is it cool if we blow up … I don’t know, like, Mars or something?”
“Certainly!” I answered. “Go right ahead. Eden Prairie isn’t there.”
And that, dear reader, is where I buy all my beef jerky. Also, this is our “Explore” issue! Best regards,

When you see a guy reach for stars in the sky …chances are you’re at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, where the current production of Guys and Dolls brings those guys, their dolls, and a madcap, mythical Manhattan vividly to life. Gracing Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ Main Stage for the first time in over 35 years and running through September 26th, this offering of the evergreen musical comedy has won praise as “a must-see feast for the senses” ( Pioneer Press) and an “eye-popping, stylish” show that’s “full of pizzazz” (Star Tribune).
“If you’re looking for a fun night out with big musical numbers, lots of laughs, and a story that wraps up with heart, this one’s worth grabbing a ticket!” –

A tale of love, luck, and “the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York,” Guys and Dolls evokes the colorful Broadway of Damon Runyon, whose stories inspired the musical’s book and Frank Loesser’s timeless songs, including “Luck Be a Lady,” “A Bushel and a Peck,” “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat,” and the show’s stars-in-the-sky title number.
The plot revolves around an improbable wager, proposed by crap game entrepreneur Nathan Detroit, who figures on winning a desperately needed $1,000 by betting well-heeled pal Sky Masterson that he can’t swing a dinner date – in Havana, no less –with straight-laced street missionary Sarah
Brown. Nathan, meanwhile, avoids setting a date of his own – a wedding date that would cap off a 14-year engagement to his faithful fiancée, showgirl Miss Adelaide.
As one of the four leads in a cast replete with small-time gamblers, racetrack touts, soul-saving mission workers, and a zany assortment of Broadway nighthawks, Madeline Trumble makes her Chanhassen Dinner Theatres debut as Miss Adelaide, wistfully treading the waters of her no-endin-sight engagement to Nathan Detroit. A Broadway veteran (Newsies), she’s toured nationwide as the lead in Mary Poppins and as Elphaba in Wicked . “I first auditioned for the Sarah Brown role in Guys and Dolls,’
says Madeline, referring to the street missionary whose life takes an unlikely turn.
“But when I was called back, I was asked if I’d like the part of Miss Adelaide – a role I first played in high school.”
With her heartfelt sympathy for the character, it’s clear Madeline – and Chanhassen Dinner Theatres – made the right choice.
“Adelaide is a kind person, with a great outlook,” she explains. “She’s always positive, in love with Nathan all through that long engagement. And she’s hilarious. The audience admires her – they recognize themselves in her.” It’s also important to remember, as Madeline points out, that the play is a “period piece,” taking place

“Guys and Dolls marks the Main Stage debut production of Tamara Kangas Erickson, showcasing her immersive and visually spectacular take on the classic Broadway show.” – Pioneer Press
at a time “when a woman’s place was different – Adelaide feels she needs to get married. To her, it’s the only option.”
As a character who’s so much a part of the mid-century Broadway world, Adelaide speaks in that curious lingo long since described as “Runyonesque” – a mix of street-smart patter and contraction-free formality that no one ever really spoke. Asked about the challenge of getting that Manhattan twang just right, Madeline comments that the color and attitude of Guys and Dolls make the task a little easier. “Damon Runyon called his stories ‘fables,’” Madeline explains. “The characters and their dialogue, their relationships and mannerisms, are exaggerated. So, it’s not important in getting the New York accent exactly right.” What she does get splendidly right is Adelaide’s way, as Madeline explains, of “letting her anxiety manifest itself through her colds and sneezes.”
How hard is a stage sneeze? It can’t be more difficult than the aerial maneuvers Madeline had to make in her Mary Poppins and Elphaba roles. “When you’re flying,” she recalls, “you really have to trust the people with the wires backstage.”
In a play filled with songs that remain perennial favorites – “even among people who don’t know they came from Guys and Dolls,” says Madeline – a lead actor who sings so many of them must have a favorite.
That’s a difficult choice for Madeline, who finally decides on the duet she shares with Sara Masterson as Sarah Brown, “Marry the Man Today.” For Madeline, “that scene is textbook musical theatre excellence. They don’t write them like that anymore.”
This year’s presentation of Guys and Dolls marks the Main Stage directorial debut of Tamara Kangas Erickson, who took on the role of president and artistic director following the sudden passing of beloved director and president Michael Brindisi in February of 2025. As Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ longtime vice president and resident choreographer, Tamara had collaborated with Brindisi on more than 50 Main Stage musical productions. Choosing the next one was one of her first tasks. “I felt we needed a classic; one that hadn’t been done here in some time,” she explains, “and I kept coming back to Guys and Dolls.”
Like the guys in the song, Tamara reached for the stars – and the winning results are now on the Main Stage at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.
Guys and Dolls is showing at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres until September 26th. Visit ChanhassenDT.com today to purchase tickets, as well as discover upcoming musicals (including the long-awaited return of Annie this fall) concerts, comedy shows, and other live entertainment!

HOUSE CLEANING AT ITS BEST!
Julie had finally done it. It took her the better part of a Saturday, but she had cleaned her entire house. “Looks nice,” Julie thought to herself, standing back to admire her work. “I just pray it stays this way, if only for a little—” WHAM! SLAM! Julie’s reflection was severed by the sounds of her front door opening and closing like she had lectured her young children not to allow. “Mom!” they cried out in unison, racing up to hug her.
Thing One: “It was glitter day at school! Teacher gave me a new pencil for being the one who covered herself in the most glitter!”
Thing Two: “And you want to know what else? You know what else? Do you want to know what else? I … I … I … I rolled in dirt! ” And then in unison once more: “We’re going to run around the house and touch stuff!”
“When you get right down to it, making people’s lives easier is the heart of our business.”
— JOHN SULCINER
Julie’s children’s arrival was immediately followed by her husband’s. “Hi Honey!” he said, chipperly. “I love our family so much that I am going to roast this entire wild hog I caught on my way home from work. If you need me I’ll be in the kitchen. Hey – where do we keep our hog scalding tub?”
At that very moment, Julie’s many German shepherds all released half of their coats directly onto her living room carpet.
“That’s it!” declared Julie. “No more! I won’t be bamboozled again! I’m throwing my mop and broom and Scrubbing Bubbles straight into the trash, because I’m not wasting another second cleaning this house only for it to get dirty again in such comically rapid fashion. I’m going to call a locally owned home cleaning service to scour this home clean on a regular basis, or whenever I feel like it!”
“What’s that, Honey?” Julie’s husband called out from the kitchen over displeased hog noises.
Julie paused to take a breath. In doing so, she realized the mere thought of the words she was about to speak filled her with peace and relief. “I said:
Julie is smart. In choosing CottageCare, she never has to sign a contract. Never has to pay a rescheduling fee. Never has to go through a rigamarole obtaining a quote for speedy and affordable service. Never has to worry about noxious chemicals getting up all up inside her German shepherds’ delicate purebred snoots! Her only concern will be finding a pastime more pleasurable than house cleaning, such as anything.
“When you get right down to it, making people’s lives easier is the heart of our business,” said John Sulciner, owner of CottageCare House Cleaning. “Many of our clients are families with too much to do and too little time to do it in. Many others are seniors who have vacuumed enough for one lifetime. We also support
moving companies, junk removal services, and other businesses that need floor-to-ceiling polishes at their own clients’ homes.
“We were recently called out to a hoarder house that had just been cleared of decades’ worth of clutter. It was one of our most challenging projects in 19 years of business, but the reward was heartwarming. The man who inherited that beautiful ‘50s mid-century modern was overcome with emotion when he saw our results. He could once again recognize his childhood home!
“We owe our 4.8 stars on Google Reviews to over 170 clients. They love how thorough we are; our fast communication, and how easy we make it to schedule and re schedule weekly, biweekly, monthly and as-needed cleanings. We know plans change last minute, and never add more stress when they do.
“Our clients love our courteous cleaners best of all, though. We have 21 of them total, encompassing everyone from college students to working parents to seniors supplementing their retirement income. They’re all thoroughly background checked – true peace of mind to the majority of our clients who aren’t home during cleanings. They’re all earnest professionals, who make efficient work of our whopping 172-item cleaning checklist. But most importantly, they’re the most highly compensated house cleaners in the Twin Cities. We offer better wages than our competitors, and holiday and vacation pay as well.
“Reward people more, and they’ll do better work. Imagine that!
“I love CottageCare for the good it allows me to do on local and global scales. It’s been a great joy to serve on the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee, as well as donate to the Chamber, the Eden Prairie Community Foundation, and half a dozen local youth sports organizations – all opportunities to support my hometown, where I raised my own children, that I couldn’t enjoy without CottageCare. I’m

no less passionate about CottageCare’s philanthropic work in Rwanda, where we provide food, housing, clothing, education and health care directly to widows and orphans. We’re also protecting every part of our planet the air touches thanks to CottageCare’s foundational commitment to exclusively using eco-friendly cleaning products.
“I’d like to thank my community for helping my business grow by 20 percent last year. It’s proof we must be doing something right!”

Your chamber? Charged up with double-base powder and #7-1/2 lead.
Your barrel? Trained squarely downrange, bead waiting to overlap saucer.
Your focus? Perfectly attuned to the task at hand, which is clobbering said saucer into a constellation of potsherds.
It is the moment. You utter the word with the cool collectedness one can’t help but feel as one cradles the twelve.
Thwap! A little orange disk bursts out of the trap house and whizzes away at an angle, though its flightiness is little match for your eagle eye, catlike reflexes, and literal ape finger. You nearly instantly unleash a supersonic volley of heavy metal poppy seeds that race downrange until totally obliterating everything clay in their way.
Pop! The disk is donezo. You point your muzzle safely at the ground before turning to regard your pals. “Not bad for my very first time, huh?” you ask them. Indeed it isn’t, they agree. Good shot!
The thrill of trap shooting: available to all at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club this August 6th from noon until 3:30pm.
“Every event we host is an opportunity for our members to network and bond,” said Karen Brettingen for the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce. “Our fifth annual Clay Target Classic, featuring a sport that has an uncanny ability to bring people closer together, will be no exception.
“To be sure, everyone is welcome to come and shoot trap with us: seasoned gunners and first-timers alike. You couldn’t ask for a nicer place to enjoy a little friendly competition in. The Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club looks like it was pulled straight out of a Romantic period masterpiece. You don’t need to bring your own equipment. Gun rental is only $20, and 25-round boxes of shotshells are $13 apiece. If you’ve

never fired a shotgun before, then no worries! Volunteers from SCHEELS will be there to share important safety and marksmanship tips, as well as keep score. Women-only teams are available to anyone who would like to join one. And when I said ‘friendly competition,’ I really meant it. It’s a totally chill and laid-back atmosphere.
“We’re grateful to all of our sponsors for helping to make this special event a success, and for donating the prizes for our big raffle. We will give away one or two sets of state-of-the-art SoundGear hearing protection by Starkey; gift cards from SCHEELS; Federal Premium ammunition (which I have been informed is the very best ammunition of all, because it is made in Minnesota); and multiple memberships to onX.
The Clay Target Classic will be held at 2920 220th Street E, Prior Lake on Thursday, August 6th. The venue opens for registration and check-in at noon; lunch, 12:30pm; announcements and instructions, 1pm; go time, 1:30 to 3pm; happy hour and raffle drawings to follow. Registration costs $95 per single shooter or $380 per foursome, and includes lunch, 50 targets, and one drink ticket per person. Raffle tickets will be for sale, as well as awarded to shooters who prove themselves to be top shots (or are lucky enough to be selected at random).
Spots are limited! Sign up today at EPChamber.org or else other people will be having fun while you aren’t.
We've been involved with the Clay Target Classic since the beginning, and look forward to it every year as an opportunity not only to invite clients out for the afternoon, but also to connect and network with a group of people that I typically don’t see at other chamber events. Lunch is fantastic, the Horse and Hunt Club always delivers with a variety of courses that challenge everyone, and the prize raffle at the end is a highlight. I highly recommend this event to anyone, even if you've never shot before. You'll have a great time with a relaxed and fun group of people. – Aaron Nicklay

Do you want careless and disengaged movers to haphazardly schlep your neat stuff across town – or cross country? Or do you want junk removal by people who don’t give a fig about recycling, and would enthusiastically chuck old refrigerators into Staring Lake if they thought they could get away with it? Then you need College LUNKS! Leave them a message today if you would like there to theoretically be a chance that they’ll call you back.
…what’s that? You want the exact opposite of those things? Courteous professionals who’ll make your prized effects materialize wherever you want them with equal parts gingerness and punctuality? Or junk removal service that minimizes your contribution to the dump? Ah. Well, in that case, you need someone incomparably better. And real .
YOU NEED COLLEGE HUNKS! Eden Prairie’s premier moving, junk removal, and general labor service is here to help Numero Uno (i.e. you) navigate perplexing challenges sans turmoil!
Near. Far. Wherever you go, so too will College HUNKS.
If it’s only a skip and a jump from present location to point B, the convenience of College HUNKS’ hourly moving service may just flabbergast you. But if point B falls outside of skipping-and-jumping range, then you can truly witness College HUNKS at their best.
The most accurate possible estimate; no surprise charges. Guidance, if desired, on how to reduce said estimate, such as by doing your own packing. A crew that never parts ways with your property, or deposits it in a distribution center. It’s bona fide white-glove service. Your sofa will think it’s a movie star.
Has your basement, garage, or other space that is vulnerable to getting overrun by junk been overrun by junk? Then you don’t have a problem. You can make every offending piece of clutter disappear as easily as pointing your finger at it. All you need is College HUNKS’ same-day junk removal service!
Only a small fraction of junk is actually trash. College HUNKS, being the eco-conscious operation that it is, knows this. That’s why they are allied with Bridging, a local nonprofit that furnishes homes for people transitioning out of homelessness. That’s why they also supply old appliances, mattresses, and other surprisingly useful things to recycling firms.
Just think. That broken washing machine that’s been collecting dust in your basement since the Carter administration? It could become patio furniture someday. How inspiring!
Is “heavy lifting” not among your uncountably large number of talents? Then you still don’t have a problem. College HUNKS’ professional movers’ Herculean physiques are at your disposal.
Temporarily relocate all your furniture to your garage in preparation for a housewide reflooring. Dismantle the rotting, decrepit treehouse in your backyard before another family of raccoons decides to move into it. Do a third thing that you do not relish doing without actually having to do it yourself. College HUNKS’ general labor gets the job done.
“I used to be a lawyer, practicing at a big law firm in Chicago,” said Ryan Spille. “After a point, I’d reviewed so many documents that I felt like my soul was leaving my body. I wanted to do something I could be passionate about. Something that genuinely helps people, like the youth mentoring I do in my church community. More than anything else, I hoped to do it in my home state. My wife is also from Minnesota, and she wanted to raise our five kids here just as much as I did.
“Honest. Uniformed. Nice. Knowledgeable. Service. While looking for business opportunities five years ago, I discovered I like everything College HUNKS stands for. I realized how much good it would let me do – not just by eliminating stress and inconvenience from people’s lives while they’re dealing with some of the most stressful and inconvenient obstacles life can lay in their paths, but also by helping young men find real purpose and aim.
“Now that I’ve acquired a second location in Eden Prairie, I’m doing even more to share the principles and values that help our team members get ahead. We’ve even started a book club together, where we sit down every week to discuss life improvement classics like Atomic Habits and Extreme Ownership. It’s all part of our commitment to being the best versions of ourselves – a real breath of fresh air in an industry that’s notorious for attracting characters who I’ll charitably describe as ‘unreliable.’
“I’m so grateful to be where I am. But I’m not complacent. My goal is to make College HUNKS the largest business of its kind in the Twin Cities, one happy customer at a time.”

Do you need help losing weight? Faster, surer results than healthy diet and exercise can achieve on their own await at Regner Health Solutions!
Since its foundation in 2022, Regner Health Solutions has helped over 400 people shed pounds and feel healthier through the power of protein-based therapies. The Bloomington weight loss clinic currently specializes in semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide weight loss treatments, as well as anti-aging peptides including Wolverine and NAD+. Here’s why!
With nearly 26 million scripts, semaglutide (the generic name for the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) was the 19th most prescribed drug in the U.S. in 2023. After insulin, it is now the second most widely prescribed peptide in the world.

ARTICLE BY DAVID SCHELLER PHOTOGRAPHY BY EMILY JOHN
Why? It’s not just semaglutide’s demonstrable effect on weight loss, with one recent study showing that participants shed an average of 33.7 pounds after receiving 68 weekly doses ( N Engl J Med 2021;384:989-1002). Cardiometabolic risk factors and physical functioning have both also been shown to improve with semaglutide, and it may reduce the risks of heart disease and certain types of cancer as well.

Tirzepatide (the generic name for the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound) was the 110th most prescribed pharmaceutical in the U.S. in 2023, with approximately 6.3 million scripts.
In a recent landmark study, participants with a BMI of 30 or higher were shown to have lost an average of 20.9 percent body weight after receiving 72 weekly doses of tirzepatide ( N Engl J Med 2022;387:205-216 ). Even more promisingly, tirzepatide was shown to improve cardiometabolic risk factors including waist circumference, blood pressure, and fasting insulin level.
Researchers have hailed retatrutide (which is presently being developed by Zepbound creator Eli Lily) as “a game changer in obesity pharmacology” ( Biomolecules 2025;15(6):79 6) Multiple studies have demonstrated retatrutide’s ability to delay gastric emptying, reduce food

intake, and promote weight loss more effectively than any other gut hormone therapy.
One particular recent study shows retatrutide’s incredible promise. Upon receiving just 48 weekly doses of the drug, 83 percent of participants showed at least 15 percent weight reduction; 93 percent showed at least 10 percent; and 100 percent showed at least 5 percent ( N Engl J Med 2023;389:514-526 ).
Wolverine is a comic book character who, among other powers, has the ability to heal from any injury. He is why BPC-157 is known as the “Wolverine peptide.” It is currently the subject of intense study for its supposed abilities to reduce inflammation, stimulate blood vessel growth, and accelerate the repair of soft tissues.
In addition to sermorelin, Wolverine is becoming increasingly popular among women pursuing anti-aging therapies. However, its apparent ability to heal soft tissues at the localized level makes it helpful to people from all walks of life. Athletes recovering from injuries. Professionals, whose years on the job haven’t been kind to their joints. Baby boomers, for reasons they are all too well aware of. Unlike the real-life animal (which is a large and famously bitey type of weasel), Wolverine can help them all!
Aging is a malleable process; subject to deceleration, if not outright reversal. This is the core tenet of cellular regenerative medicine, which has produced a wealth of evidence suggesting that aging goes hand in hand with declining levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+).
NAD+ is paramount to cellular metabolism, as well as the production of enzymes that influence aging at the genetic level. Low energy. Mental fog. Dry skin. Poor sleep. Mood swings. These and several other symptoms have all been shown to coincide with NAD+ deficiency. Naturally, NAD+ sufficiency can be an altogether opposite feeling, and may just help you stick around to annoy your grandchildren long into their adulthoods.
“Getting started is easy!” said Ben Regner, who cofounded Regner Health Solutions alongside his father David. “Just visit our clinic for your initial consultation. You’ll fill out some basic paperwork. We’ll measure your weight, height and blood pressure. There will be no blood work. Once you have video chatted with our Minnesota-licensed doctor Michael Zbiegien, MD – and we have confirmed everything is good to go with your own primary care physician – you can begin treatment that very same day: a single injection.
“You’ll continue visiting our clinic weekly for the first four or five weeks. We want to make sure you’re proceeding healthily, and fine-tune your dosage if need be. Once we’ve determined your ideal treatment plan, you’re all set to begin self-dosing at home. You’ll only have to visit our clinic monthly for a quick checkup and to receive your new supply. It’s all month by month. No longterm commitment!

“We strive to make medical weight loss affordable to everyone. That’s why we don’t prescribe name brand drugs, which can easily cost $1,700 a month. Our generic alternatives have the exact same effects. They just cost as little as $299 a month instead.
“Our patients aren’t just happier with their appearance. They receive all the other benefits of weight loss as well. Improved sleep. Reduced blood pressure. Lower likelihood of diabetes, and lower incidence of joint issues, too. It really is amazing what a single weekly injection can do!”

POP QUIZ. Which three things does Eden Prairie do better than any other Twin Cities suburb? If you answered (A) enriching our community through philanthropy, collaboration and leadership, (B) enhancing the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in our city, and (C) partying, then news of the 46th annual EP Gives’ extraordinary success should come as no surprise.
“It was a red-letter occasion,” said Emily Orr, executive director of the Eden Prairie Community Foundation. “Thanks to our guests and every business that sponsored our signature fundraising event, we raised over $117,000 for the Foundation’s myriad philanthropic efforts!”
Thursday, April 30th at the glamorous Minneapolis Marriott Southwest – it was EP Gives! Festivities kicked off with a cocktail hour replete with succulent appetizers, gregariousness-enhancing beverages, and amusing ways to convert money into the greater good. A silent auction featuring over $35,000 worth of fabulous prizes (FPs), including art pieces, scenic flights, golf outings, house cleanings, massages, and gift cards to beloved local eateries such as The Hearth and Tavern 4&5. A wine pull, from which guests yanked every last bottle. A raffle for a vacation to a country with pizza nearly as good as The Hearth’s: Italy. A last-man-standing headsor-tails showdown, wherein participants vied for a

sunset cruise with Let’s Go Fishing. Nothing less than the Marriott’s gourmet dinner could have torn guests away from such merriments.
“We are beyond fortunate to have welcomed Senator Steve Cwondinski as the party’s emcee,” said Emily. “He is a pillar of our community, who has so admirably dedicated himself to serving the southwest metro. Just as importantly, he is a hoot, with an uncanny talent for telling captivating anecdotes that wallop listeners with unforeseeable punchlines. And dad jokes!”
After-dinner programming included an incomparably more kinetic affair than the silent auction: a live auction, featuring FPs such as trips to Mexico and Italy, a ride in a WWII aircraft courtesy of Wings of the North, and a history tour of our capitol with Mayor Ron and Kathie Case sponsored by Executive Transportation. Guests also viewed touching videos showcasing Hammer Residences and Mission Animal Hospital, as well as this year’s recipient of the Dr. Jean L. Harris Scholarship.
“They were only a sampling of the many outstanding organizations and individuals we have the honor of providing funding to,” said Emily. “The Foundation is also a steadfast supporter of the Eden Prairie Community Band and Eden Prairie Players, as well as Every Meal, Good in the 'Hood, Onward Eden Prairie, Move Forward, PROP Food Shelf, Reach for Resources, Relate Counseling Center, the Sojourner Project, True Friends, and several other nonprofits serving people who are experiencing food insecurity, housing insecurity, mental health challenges, and disabilities.
“I have an extensive background in nonprofit leadership and fundraising. I worked for some of the very same organizations that receive funding from the Foundation prior to becoming its executive director last February. That’s all to say that I have watched people do a lot of good over the course of my career, and I was still astounded by our guests’ generosity that evening.
“It was nothing short of inspiring, and assured me that the Foundation will continue expanding its funding and resources over the coming decades. EP Gives truly proves that Eden Prairie’s compassion is without equal.”
The Foundation’s new executive director may be as well connected as she is experienced, but there’s still one prominent figure in our community she has yet to know the pleasure of meeting: you. If you lead a business or an organization that loves thy neighbor, call (952) 949-8499 or write emilyorr@epcommunityfoundation.org to schedule a tête-à-tête with Emily! “It is an honor to represent the good people of Eden Prairie on any occasion,” said Mayor Ron Case. “But when the Eden Prairie Community Foundation asked me to say a few kind words about the recipients of this year’s Icon Awards, I couldn’t help but feel a stronger tingle of pride than usual.
“Since the Foundation’s establishment in 1981, our city has grown from a sleepy hamlet into the shining light of Midwestern industry and quality of life. As our community’s needs continuously evolved, so too have the Foundation’s efforts to support them. Early on, those endeavors included raising money to buy marching band uniforms, and outfitting our police and fire departments with better equipment. Now that our population has more than quadrupled in number, the Foundation is increasingly dedicated to initiatives against food and housing insecurities. They’ve been in the right place at the right time for decades running, and they have my total admiration and gratitude for it.
“I could say the same thing of the two highest honorees at EP Gives 2026. Their contributions to Eden Prairie have been nothing less than foundational. It is impossible to appreciate our fine city without also recognizing the parts they played in its creation.
“Here’s an exclusive mayoral tip to anyone who wants to start a great city: Get someone as similar to Roy Terwilliger as you can . As the founder of Eden Prairie’s first bank, Roy has been instrumental in lifting countless local businesses up off the ground. His inexhaustible commitment to our city compelled him to help launch the Eden Prairie Community Foundation itself, as well as the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund, Eden Prairie Local News, and the Eden Prairie Rotary Club. And as a Minnesota state senator from 1992 until
2002, Roy always wielded his considerable influence for the good of the very same community he had been chosen to serve.
“May Roy please forgive me for omitting so many of his other accomplishments. They are simply too many to list without glossing over the other paragon of civic spirit we celebrated at EP Gives.
“Dave Lindahl has lived in Eden Prairie since he was four years old. He took an internship with the city in 1985 to complete his college degree, little suspecting that he had found his only employer over the course of his four-decades-long career.
“We are surrounded by Dave’s achievements as a city planner. He helped ensure the placement of Highway 212 would have minimal impact on Eden Prairie’s natural beauty, and his role in redrawing the Metropolitan Urban Service Area line was paramount to supplying utilities throughout the entire southwest corner of town. Upon his promotion to Housing and Redevelopment Authority manager in 1994, Dave set eagerly to work making affordable housing available to anyone hoping to call our city home. Moreover, I cannot imagine an Eden Prairie without the partnerships Dave has helped forge over the years. If I were asked to name our community’s most crucial nexus, I would decline to choose between Roy and Dave.
“Both men are glowing examples of what it means to be the right person in the right place at the right time. They are irreplaceable. That’s why I’m relieved that they don’t need to be replaced. Now that Roy, Dave, and many others have transmuted Eden Prairie into a community with world-class commerce and infrastructure, we can look forward to the next generation of leaders who will preserve the great treasure they have inherited.
“They’ve been in the right place at the right time for decades running, and they have my total admiration and gratitude for it.”
“Whether they’re working at local businesses, schools, or nonprofits, those leaders will share a few things in common with Roy and Dave. They will care deeply for their neighbors. They will prioritize the common good over their own success. They will selflessly involve themselves wherever they sense they might be of help. They will make us all proud – and rightly so – of our hometown.”

Working with Kim Guild and The Guild Group was truly one of the best decisions we made during a major life transition. Kim went far beyond what we expected. Throughout the entire journey, Kim was patient, steady, and incredibly supportive. She made a complex and emotional process feel manageable, and she showed up not just as an outstanding professional, but as a genuine partner and friend. We would wholeheartedly recommend Kim to anyone buying or selling a home, and we can confidently say the same about the exceptional team that supports her. We are deeply grateful for her care, expertise, and commitment.

You Say You Wanna Go for a Spin The Party's Just Begun, We’ll Let You In
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT BEING A ROCKSTAR FEELS LIKE? Then you don’t need Jimi’s fingers, Freddie’s pipes, Ozzy’s constitution, or Iggy’s body fat. To (loosely) quote The Beatles:
All you need is beer
All you need is beer
All you need is beer, beer
Beer is all you need “Wow!” you are no doubt thinking to yourself at this exact moment. “You mean to say I can experience the thrill of being a rockstar as easily as teaming up with just any brand of beer?”
NO. I do not mean to say that at all. In fact, only one brewery values FUN and PARTYING enough to transform you (and a plus one) into THE LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOOD TIMES. I am speaking, of course, of the August Schell Brewing Company (the second-oldest family-owned brewery in America), which owns Grain Belt (as advertised next to the Hennepin Avenue Bridge), brews Nordeast (a lightly malty, softly hoppy, and madly refreshing amber lager), and is now giving away ULTIMATE ROCKSTAR PACKAGES!
[THIS HEADING REPRESENTS A SWEET ELECTRIC GUITAR RIFF]
“We’ve been talking about doing this for years,” said Scott Hislop, senior manager at Schell’s Brewery. “And now, it’s finally time. We’re solidifying Nordeast’s reputation as the world’s greatest accompaniment to live music by giving away dream concert experiences!”

Executive Transportation provides car service you can count on wherever life takes you. ExecutiveCarUSA.com
Avenged Sevenfold. Chris Stapleton. Dave Matthews. Mötley Crüe. My Chemical Romance. Ne-Yo and Akon. Noah Kahan. Pitbull and Lil Jon. These are just some of the scintillating live performances Nordeast is handing out tickets to as freely as banks give away little lollipops!
YOU
You don’t even have to buy any Nordeast (although doing so is highly recommended ). All you have to do is scan the QR code displayed on any of the tens of thousands of coasters Nordeast is thoughtfully supplying to fine drinking establishments throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area, as well as signs at fine bottle shops throughout the same.
Alternatively, you can visit GrainBelt.com, where you’ll be prompted to enter your contact information (which will be treated with the utmost sanctity) and choose which genre of music you like best. If you are lucky (like all magazine readers characteristically are), you will win two tickets to THE BIG SHOW (most likely at beautiful Mystic Lake Amphitheater where you can also enjoy the Schell’s Biergarten , though The Armory and Grand Casino Arena are also in the running ).
DRIVING? PFFT. FORGET ABOUT THAT. LEAVE IT TO EXECUTIVE TRANSPORTATION!
Nordeast and music go together like Hall and Oates. It goes with most anything, if I’m being perfectly honest. But if there is one experience the beer cannot complement, it’s operating a motor vehicle.
“We really wanted the Ultimate Rockstar Package to live up to its name,” said Scott. “That’s why we’ve partnered with Executive Transportation, who will pick winners up in a luxury vehicle ( fully stocked with ice-cold Nordeast, quite naturally, in addition to other swag ) and treat them to true red carpet service – complete with a real, honest-to-goodness red carpet – as

they whisk them around the Twin Cities to dinner, the big show, and finally The Marquette Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Huge shoutout to Executive Transportation founder Gus Ortis for his expertise in putting this whole thing together, including arranging our winners’ accommodations at The Marquette. They include two complimentary breakfasts!”
THAT’S RIGHT: two breakfasts , just like Jimmy Page and Robert Plant ate before recording “Stairway to Heaven.”
Have you always dreamt of destroying something during a night of partying, like you are the drummer for The Who after eating too much sugar? Don’t do it at The Marquette! It’s too nice a place for those kinds of antics. Instead, simply smash the electric guitar you will be provided free of charge during the preceding evening.
DON’T LET SO MUCH FUN SLIP THROUGH YOUR EXTREMELY DESERVING FINGERS
Look for those QR codes – or, just as well, visit GrainBelt.com to enter the running. If you don’t win, that’s OK! Nordeast will repeat the contest every quarter. Try your luck again October through December, January through March, or during any of the other fine quarters the Gregorian calendar has to offer.

“We’re solidifying Nordeast’s reputation as the world’s greatest accompaniment to live music by giving away dream concert experiences!”

“IT HAS BEEN A PRIVILEGE TO HOST MULTIPLE FUNDRAISERS FOR HELPING PAWS AT MOTORWERKS BMW.”
“I first met Derek when we were both new to the United States Marine Corps,” reminisced Shawn Simonet. “He was fiercely driven. Equally intelligent. Capable of jumping over ten-foot-high fences as easily as you or I could climb stairs. Truly a Belgian Malinois the Corps could be proud of.
“But like me, Derek was still green. Although he had received all the proper training, he still lacked enough confidence to be an effective control dog. He also had a weaker bite than any other dog in my unit –which, as any Marine K9 handler would tell you, is not good.
“I devoted myself to making Derek the greatest dog he could be. I even moved my cot into the kennel so we could spend as much time training together as possible. Little by little, his hesitation was replaced by complete confidence and focus. He eventually developed the strongest bite in my unit as well.
“Derek was trained as a narcotics detection dog, but he was also used for patrol work and SWAT entries. Thankfully, there were very few times when his protection abilities needed to be fully utilized, but I was always comforted knowing he was beside me if things ever went bad.

“SELLING AND SERVICING THE FINEST VEHICLES EVER MADE WOULD HAVE BEEN REWARDING ENOUGH ON ITS OWN. BUT DOING IT IN A WAY THAT ALSO
GIVES BACK TO PEOPLE, AND STRENGTHENS OUR COMMUNITY? THAT’S AN EVEN BETTER FEELING.”
“Technically speaking, military working dogs are classified as equipment. But to me, Derek was like a fellow Marine. The bond we forged lifted both of us up. It has continued to strengthen me long after his passing.
“And that’s why I love Helping Paws. While the Eden Prairie nonprofit’s golden retrievers and Labs probably wouldn’t cut it in the Marines, the bonds they form with veterans and first responders living with service-related PTSD are no less extraordinary than the one Derek and I shared. I can’t tell you how many vets have gained the same confidence, independence, and constant companionship they needed to reengage with the world thanks to Helping Paws’ miraculous assistance dogs. And their benefits to people with physical disabilities? They’re no less inspiring!
“It has been a privilege to host multiple fundraisers for Helping Paws at Motorwerks BMW. All we really have to do is provide the space they need to introduce their lovely ambassador dogs to the general public, as well as provide a little family-friendly
entertainment. It’s always a knockout hit with guests! Our support for Helping Paws also extends outside of our dealership every time we participate in their annual Paws In Motion 5K.
“When my wife and I say our prayers with our little girls before bed, I always ask them two questions about their day. What’s the one thing you’re most proud of? And who did you lift up? Upon reflection, they learn the same great lesson the Marine Corps taught me all those years ago: that service to others is everything.
“To that end, I thank Helping Paws for helping me make that value a part of Motorwerks BMW’s DNA. Selling and servicing the finest vehicles ever made would have been rewarding enough on its own. But doing it in a way that also gives back to people, and strengthens our community? That’s an even better feeling.”
Do you own a business? Then you can help Helping Paws make even more angels. Call (952) 988-9359 today to learn more about a golden opportunity to give back!

After losing her father as a teenager, Katy McCourtney longed for support she hadn’t received. After her death, her family partnered with the Park Nicollet Foundation to create Growing Through Grief, offering in-school grief groups. At its peak, it served up to 16 districts – but Minnesota has over 570. The need eventually exceeded the program’s capacity.
Rather than allowing Katy’s legacy to fade, the Park Nicollet Foundation sought a steward who could thoughtfully carry key components of the Growing Through Grief program into the future. In 2025, their search led them to Brighter Days Family Grief Center: widely recognized across Minnesota for its expertise in grief, and a proven leader in sustaining youth-focused programs.
Brighter Days had previously demonstrated this capacity in 2021, when it acquired Youth Grief Services from the Fairview Foundation and successfully expanded its reach statewide. That achievement showcased the organization’s ability to honor a program’s core strengths while elevating its impact for grieving children, teens, and families.
“With Growing Through Grief, we saw an opportunity to broaden its scope in a way that preserves its content while better meeting the needs of today’s schools,” said Carolyn Kinzel, founder and president of Brighter Days Family Grief Center.
“For years, educators have told us they need a true culture of preparedness; one where grieving students and staff feel supported throughout the entire school day, instead of only within a group setting. Evolving the program allows us to meet those needs and ensure it thrives as a statewide model.
Brighter Days brings a uniquely comprehensive model to this work. As Minnesota’s only nonprofit family grief center providing no-cost care to all individuals grieving the death or terminal diagnosis of a family member, their structure addresses the logistical, psychosocial, and financial challenges that often accompany grief. For school staff and parents, this knowledge is invaluable. It helps them understand the full range of support available, including youth and family grief camps, family support groups, and one-on-one counseling, all at no cost. “As the parent of a grieving child, I had no idea there were other options I could offer my son outside of his school,” said Carolyn. “Knowing he had a choice in where and how he received support would have meant so much. That sense of agency, even in the smallest way, would have mattered deeply to him.”
Brighter Days’ vision for Growing Through Grief is for every school in Minnesota to view the organization as a trusted partner. They want grieving students and staff to return to school environments that feel prepared to support them.
“Growing Through Grief is now offered as a selection of services that allows each school to choose
“Joining Brighter Days and helping unite school districts with their mission is an honor I carry with great care.”

what best fits its needs,” said Josie Robinson, school support liaison for Brighter Days. “If a school wants grief support on campus, our team trains their staff and volunteers. If a school community is facing a crisis, we provide postvention care and situational grief groups. If they want grief knowledge, they can select from different training topics through our education program.
“For schools seeking a proactive approach, our Grief Care Plan helps create compassionate, inclusive environments for students and staff returning after the death of a loved one. It is one of the most meaningful enhancements we have brought to the Growing Through Grief program.” The plan recognizes that school employees may also be grieving a student, colleague, or family member, helping districts become truly grief sensitive by acknowledging that grief is universal and not limited to students.
To support a smooth transition, Nicole Barnes, current program director for Growing Through Grief, will join the Brighter Days team in July, bringing invaluable experience and continuity to this next chapter. “Joining Brighter Days and helping unite school districts with their mission is an honor I carry with great care,” said Nicole.
For individual educators seeking foundational grief knowledge, Brighter Days offers virtual webinars that meet Minnesota education requirements, along with their annual All Things Grief conference featuring a dedicated track for school professionals. Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.

The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.

No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.

Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.

The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.

THERE WE WERE – all assembled in the private dining room of Tavern 4&5, eagerly anticipating the big moment.
We were a true dream team. There was John Lee, publisher of Eden Prairie Lifestyle , whose lovely wife Shannon was sadly kept at home by some dreadful bug. There was Blake Lawrence, our intrepid intern and the founder of Real Media MN. There was Marcia LeVoir of LegalShield, who, realizing how weak we were without Shannon, selflessly volunteered to help make our big moment a big hit. There were also me and my beautiful

wife Nina, whom I love with all my heart and have never done anything wrong to, and who reads all of this magazine’s articles.
Suddenly – exactly when we expected them to – our guests began to arrive. Many of them were our very favorite people in the whole wide world: clients. They and several other linchpins of our community honored our team by attending Eden Prairie’s most important magazine-related event of the entire year.
We had drinks! We ate cocktail shrimps, Nothing Bundt Cakes’ delicious little Bundtinis, and Sergeant Shortbread’s indescribably good crispity-buttery things! We schmoozed! We schmoozed like we had never schmoozed before, because everything at our party was perfect and nice.
Such frenetic schmoozing could only have been disrupted by one thing: John’s speech, in which he outpoured his gratitude toward the community that has made our magazine a resounding success, and announced the recipients of the evening’s fabulous prizes. Congrats again to the winners of gift cards from ALL Travel, ALTA Honors, Baker’s Ribs, Bella Gina Boutique, Bill’s Toggery, CottageCare, The Hearth, LX Medical, The Mustard Seed, Pho Mai, Redstone American Grill, Tavern 4&5, and Woodhouse Spa, and Prairie Wine & Brewfest tickets courtesy of the Eden Prairie Community Foundation!
We’d like to thank every guest, everyone who generously donated prizes, and Executive Transportation for helping us throw our most magnificent fiesta to date. But more than anyone else, we’d like to thank that figure who is most central to our six-year spree of prosperity and good fortune: you . Without your readership and the close attention you pay to our many fine ads, we’d be bupkis.
