AdvoKate The AdvoKate concert was inspired by Kate Fronek who fought so courageously against leukemia in 2017. The Eden Prairie Lions and Lioness Clubs are thankful for the continued support we receive from this great community we are all part of. At this year’s Schooner Days, we added with great success a pickleball tournament and music from The Country Western Band on Saturday night. An exciting softball tournament returned, and of course the legendary bingo, beer and food were well received in the new expanded tent. However, we did face some challenges in moving Schooner Days from the Eden Prairie Community Center across the street to Round Lake Park. We apologize for any inconvenience that resulted from the unfortunate and hopefully temporary loss of our usual midway/carnival partner this year. We appreciate the great

Spicy Micheladas Makes about 8 beer cocktails

INGREDIENTS:

+ 4 cups ice-cold Clamato or tomato juice + 1/2 cup fresh lime juice + 2 teaspoons hot sauce, such as Cholula + 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce + 1 teaspoon Maggi Seasoning or soy sauce + 3 Tablespoons kosher salt + 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder + Lime wedges for serving + 3 12-ounce bottles of ice-cold Mexican beer

INSTRUCTIONS: In a large pitcher, whisk together Clamato, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire, and Maggi seasoning. On a small plate, stir together the salt and chili powder. Rub the rims of 8 separate pint glasses with wedges of lime and then dip each glass in the salt mixture. Fill the glasses with some ice, then fill about halfway with the Clamato mixture. FROZEN LEMONADE ICE POPS WITH JELL-O WHAT YOU NEED Popsicle molds Popsicle sticks Jell-O (we recommend berry blue and watermelon) 4 cups cold water 1 cup Country Time lemonade drink mix 1 tub (12 ounces) Cool Whip, thawed 1 tablespoon lemon zest

WHAT YOU DO 1. Prepare the Jell-O as directed on the box. Pour into dishes so about 1 inch thick and refrigerate until set. 2. Blend water, lemonade mix, Cool Whip and lemon zest until smooth. 3. When Jell-O is set, remove from dishes and slice into small cubes (they’ll need to fit in the popsicle molds). 4. Fill the popsicle molds about halfway with Jell-O cubes, then fill the remaining space with the blended lemonade mixture. 5. Add popsicle sticks if needed and freeze overnight.

FROZEN FRUIT POPS To make these frozen fruit pops, blend your fruit of choice (we recommend honeydew, pineapple, dragonfruit or nectarines) with water until smooth. Add water as needed for a thinner consistency. Once blended, pour the first fruit layer to fill 1/3 of the popsicle mold, then freeze to set (about 20 minutes). Once the first layer is set, pour the second fruit layer to fill 1/3 of the popsicle mold, and repeat until full. Freeze overnight and enjoy!

DON’T DROWN YOUR PLANTS WITH TOO MUCH WATER Did you know that over-watering is usually considered the most common cause of early plant death? If you overwater your plants, they become vulnerable to disease. Heavy, waterlogged soil compacts and smothers plant roots causing suffocation, root rot and plant death by drowning, disease or infestation.

GOOD TIMING IS ESSENTIAL TO CORRECT WATERING Just as different plants have different water requirements, different times of the year also affect the amount of water you should give a plant. Water in the morning so the plants are ready for the day. For most plants, this means watering more in the spring and summer and less in the autumn.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR PLANT IS DROWNING? Plants that are watered too often become waterlogged. The soil lacks much-needed oxygen which stunts the growth of the plants. They become limp and leaves turn yellow.

HOW TO WATER PLANTS SUCCESSFULLY Don’t just give your plants a little drink. It is far better to give almost any plant a thorough soaking occasionally than a light watering daily or several times a week. When you water deeply and infrequently, it encourages the roots to grow deep to access moist, cool soil. Mulching heavily around outdoor plants will allow for the soil to stay moist for a longer period of time. CONTINUED >

INGREDIENTS: 2 cans Busch's Southern Pit Barbecue Baked Beans 1/2 pound ground beef 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 small sweet onion, diced 1 medium green bell pepper, diced into small pieces 1/4 cup ketchup 2 teaspoons yellow mustard

DIRECTIONS: + Preheat your oven to 325Â°. + Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat while chopping the meat into small pieces, set aside. + Chop onion and green pepper and cook over medium heat with a Tablespoon of olive oil for 4-5 minutes. + In a medium baking dish combine the cooked ground beef, onion and green bell pepper and the rest of the remaining ingredients.
