In this issue, we dive into the many ways we explore: local gems that make us see our own neighborhoods in a new light, regional escapes perfect for a quick refresh, and international adven tures that feed our sense of wonder. You’ll find inspiring destination features, packing tips that actually work, advice from seasoned travelers, and trending domestic and international hot spots.
July is prime time for long days, sun-soaked memories, and beloved holiday weekends—like the Fourth of July—that invite us to hit the road, fire up the grill, or gather somewhere new. Whether you’re chasing fireworks on the lake, planning a beach escape, or finally booking that dream flight, this issue is your guide to doing it in style and with intention.
What makes this issue special is its balance between accessible and aspirational. It’s not about how far you go—it’s about what you discover along the way. Wherever you’re headed next—whether it’s around the block or across the world—I hope this issue fuels your curiosity, helps you plan with confidence, and reminds you that adventure is always within reach.
Happy travels, and happy summer.

SMART PACKING & PLANNING TIPS FOR DOMESTIC VS. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
ARTICLE BY REI KIESER
Whether you're hopping a quick flight to Miami or crossing the ocean to Milan, how do you prepare to make the most of your getaway? Travel is more fun and much smoother with a few essentials in tow. We spoke with Reilly Resort Representative co-founders and travel experts Nanci Reilly and Mary Jane Reilly Allen to gather best tips. As seasoned travelers and lifestyle pros, they help us unpack the key differences between domestic and international travel.
Q1: WHAT’S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PACKING FOR A DOMESTIC VERSUS INTERNATIONAL TRIP?
A: The biggest difference is flexibility versus preparedness. Domestic travel allows for more spontaneity — if you forget something, it’s usually easy to pick up. International trips require a tighter checklist. Forget adapters, medications, or proper documents, and you could be in a tough spot. Pack light for domestic, pack smart for international.
Q2: DO YOU PLAN OUTFITS DIFFERENTLY FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL?
A: Absolutely. For domestic trips, we suggest clients pack more casually and rely on mixing and matching staples. For international travel, especially to places with different cultural norms or climates, plan outfits in advance — down to shoes and accessories. We also suggest travelers research dress codes and local style to avoid sticking out or being disrespectful. Product tip: Versatile travel wrap or scarf (like the Lululemon Vinyasa Scarf) is a great layering piece for style and modesty abroad.
Q3: HOW DOES YOUR TECH GEAR CHANGE BETWEEN THE TWO TYPES OF TRIPS?
A: For domestic trips, we typically suggest bringing just your phone and charger. For international travel, power bank, universal adapter, SIM card kit, and hard-copy list of emergency contacts are important. Download offline maps, translation apps, and travel documents just in case you find yourself somewhere with spotty Wi-Fi or data service.
Product tip: We love the Anker PowerCore power bank and EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter - compact, reliable - perfect for global travel.
Q4: HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD YOU START PLANNING FOR EACH TYPE OF TRIP?
A: For domestic travel, four to six weeks is usually enough — even less if you’re familiar with the destination. International trips, start at least 9-12 months ahead. You’ll need to check passport validity, visa requirements, vaccination recommendations, and sometimes even travel advisories. The more remote or regulated the destination, the more lead time you’ll need.
Q5: WHAT’S ONE OVERLOOKED ITEM PEOPLE SHOULD PACK DIFFERENTLY FOR INTERNATIONAL VS. DOMESTIC TRAVEL?
A: Travel insurance! For domestic travel, it’s nice to have. For international trips, we believe it’s essential. Lost luggage, flight cancellations, medical emergencies — things hit differently when you’re thousands of miles from home. Also, bring a small medical kit when traveling abroad, including prescriptions and overthe-counter meds that may not be readily available overseas.
Product tip: Try the VSSL First Aid Mini Kit. It’s compact, TSA-compliant, and great for any trip.
Q6: ANY PACKING HACKS THAT WORK BETTER FOR INTERNATIONAL TRIPS?
A: Use packing cubes — they’re a game changer, especially for longer or multi-city trips. We also suggest a separate “in-transit” kit with snacks, change of clothes, and toiletries in case of long layovers or lost luggage. And never underestimate the power of a printed itinerary. If your phone dies or gets stolen, paper backups are a lifesaver.
Product tip: Away’s Compression Packing Cubes are our go-to — lightweight, durable, and they really maximize space.
Q7: WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE SEEN TRAVELERS FACE DOMESTICALLY VERSUS INTERNATIONALLY?
A: Domestically, it’s usually overpacking and under planning. Travelers assume familiarity means ease, but things like weather, transportation, and event
“Whether crossing state lines or time zones, the key to stress-free travel is preparation. Know where you’re going, respect local norms, and leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs.”
“From international escapes full of color and culture to domestic cities reinventing themselves, the biggest trend in travel right now is intentionality — people want experiences that feel personalized, enriching, and rooted in the spirit of a place.”
logistics still need research. Internationally, the challenge is culture shock — everything from language barriers to tipping etiquette can throw you off. The key is doing your homework. Apps like Google Translate and XE Currency can help bridge those gaps in real time.
Q8: WHAT ARE A FEW HOT INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS RIGHT NOW?
A: Whether you’re jet-setting across the globe or exploring closer to home, there are some truly exciting destinations trending right now.
International Destinations: Lisbon, Portugal offers a vibrant food scene, charming architecture, and sunny coastal vibes. A favorite for travelers seeking both culture and relaxation. Kyoto, Japan is a timeless destination gaining renewed interest, especially for travelers craving tradition, serenity, and seasonal beauty. Mexico City, Mexico offers a bold mix of art, design, and world-class dining - great for travelers looking for creative inspiration and energy.
Domestic Destinations: Santa Fe, New Mexico is a dreamy desert getaway full of art, adobe charm, and elevated wellness retreats. Asheville, North Carolina – nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains – offers the perfect blend of craft culture, hiking, and a buzzy food scene. Chicago, Illinois is a classic city making a strong comeback for weekend travelers thanks to its architecture, lakefront dining, and increasingly dynamic hotel scene.

Roswell’s Brent Stevens, Great Grandson of the Baseball Legend, Shares the Personal Side of an American Icon
ARTICLE BY TRAN BUI
PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARY HEBERT PHOTOGRAPHY
Being the great grandson of one of the most legendary figures in baseball and American pop culture gives Roswell resident Brent Stevens a unique perspective. Brent is the grandson of Babe Ruth’s daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens, and has dedicated much of his adult life to preserving and sharing the legacy of the man affectionately known as “The Babe.”
For Brent, Babe Ruth is much more than a name in the record books. “It’s been a great honor and privilege,” he says. “In many baseball circles, he’s still considered the best of all time. He hasn’t played a Major League game in 90 years, and yet he still holds some notable records.”
Ruth had two daughters: Dorothy and Julia. Brent’s father, Tom Stevens, is Julia’s only child, and Brent’s sister is Amanda Dandro.
Growing up, Brent often heard stories from his grandmother, who was adopted by Babe Ruth and affectionately called him “Daddy.” “While I never met him, he passed in 1948, visits with my grandmother gave me a chance to get to know him through her.
I heard great stories and learned what a special, kindhearted person he was off the field. He was definitely one of a kind, and I’m proud to be his great-grandson.”
Brent helps fans connect with the Ruth legacy through collectibles, memorabilia and public appearances. He also launched the website BabeRuthCentral.com and Facebook page Babe Ruth Central, a space where fans can share stories and celebrate the man behind the legend. Beyond that, he created “Babe Ruth Inspirations” T-shirts featuring some of Ruth’s most motivational quotes and even brought his famous sweet relish recipe to market for a time.
Now, Brent is bringing the newly released book Out of the Mouth of Babe to life with author Kelly Bennett. Packed with memorable “Babe-isms,” rare photos and lesser-known facts, the book offers a fresh, inspiring look at the man behind the legend.
It’s not just about baseball stats or home run counts. “As impressive as Babe was on the field, he was equally impressive off of it,” Brent shares. “He loved children. There are so many stories of him visiting orphanages and hospitals, signing balls for kids after games, even buying rounds of hot dogs and sodas and hanging with them in the bleachers. When
I meet older fans who met him as kids, their faces still light up remembering that moment.”
One part of Babe Ruth’s story that Brent takes particular pride in is his inclusive spirit. “He was very open-minded in a time when racism was still pretty rampant,” Brent says, noting Ruth’s friendships with African American icons like Joe Louis and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Ruth often played exhibition games against Negro League players, even when it wasn’t popular with baseball leadership. Some historians believe that support may have cost him a managing job after his playing career.
Babe Ruth’s story began long before the spotlight. He grew up in an Industrial School for Boys in Baltimore from age 6 to 19, apprenticing to be a tailor until he was pulled out to play for the Baltimore Orioles. Within a few years, he went from an unknown kid in a boys’ home to one of the biggest sports stars in the country.
“He was the definition of a rags-to-riches story,” Brent says. “He was a bigger-than-life individual who really connected with people on a personal level. He represents some of the best and most iconic aspects of American history.”
When it comes to legacy… Babe Ruth still knocks it out of the park.
“As impressive as Babe Ruth was on the field, he was equally impressive off of it. He was a bigger-than-life individual who really connected with people on a personal level. He represents some of the best and most iconic aspects of American history.” Brent Stevens, Great Grandson

Best of Belize, showcased through Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club
ARTICLE BY WENDY EDWARDS
Where in the world can you find thousand foot waterfalls, rainforest-canopied rivers, twenty-foot orchids and Mayan ruins just three hours from Atlanta? If you ask Beth Clifford, Founder, Owner and CEO of Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club, a Curio brand, she will reveal the intimate Caribbean country of Belize possesses all of this and more, which captured her heart twenty years ago. Ms. Clifford asks, “Where else can you roll out of bed and be swimming with Nemo in ten minutes?”
This was exactly the type of activity Ms. Clifford and her associates were searching for when they began the hunt for a property located in a natural setting with world-class activities, culinary delights and luxurious surroundings, fueled by passionate locals and a love for their country. After 11 years of procuring the property, planning, constructing and designing, the resort opened in 2017 and is now the largest in Belize.
Walk through the resort and discover the 19th-century British Honduras architecture displayed throughout the property. Rich mahogany sourced in Belize and lovingly crafted by locals covers floors and accents spaces in an effort to stay ecologically accurate. From the “Great House” to the villas, cottages and beach club, this sentiment is evident throughout the property. “I wanted to build a product that presents the country of Belize to guests, using local resources, materials and the labor of this great country”, says Ms. Clifford.
This same time and attention is also evident in the amenities offered, from the highly experienced and trained staff to the smallest of details. This is what sets this world-class property apart from the rest. No one knows this better than Richard Evanich, Managing Director of Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club. From a family of 12 where you had to “fight for your seat at the table of eight”, Mr. Evanich learned early how to stand out. He inherited his hospitable spirit from his mother, along with the love for cooking and a natural gift for making friends and guests feel welcomed and comfortable. From dishwasher to managing many ultra-luxury properties over 40 years, including the Ritz Carlton and Waldorf Astoria, Mr. Evanich caught the attention of Ms. Clifford. A dynamic working relationship formed instantly, rooted in their shared vision for crafting the perfect guest experience at Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club.
For seekers of the ultimate in luxury and tranquility, the resort offers a full-service spa that serves as a sanctuary of relaxation. No worries if you don’t want to shake off the sand and visit the spa, you can enjoy mini spa treatments on the beach as you sip a sumptuous cocktail, soak in the rays, and watch the tide come in.
For the perfect family bonding experience you can charter Blue Bone Fishing and their crew right from the resort’s marina, catch your favorite fish, spear the lobster you’ve been craving or dive for that conch you can sample right on the boat. At sunset, the crew will happily grill your catch of the day on the beach as you listen to the band and take in the night.
Adrenaline seekers and groups may love the opportunity to charter a plane 10 minutes from the resort, view Thousand Foot Falls from the plane, then land at one of the Coppola Hideaway properties and take in the rainforest’s beauty over a glass of wine or tasty rum cocktail. After, you can stop in at the Mayan ruins or tour a working cacao plantation before making it back to the resort by dinner. Alternatively, you can spend the entire day exploring the Blue Hole or scuba diving in the Ambergris Caye, the second largest barrier reef in the world. The best part is that these amazing sights are only a short boat ride from the resort.
At Mahogany Beach Resort and Beach Club you can do as much or as little as you want. Ms. Clifford states,
“We think of our property as the basecamp of your Belize adventure. Your adventure might one day be two mimosas and a Danielle Steel book by the pool, and the next you ride horses through the rainforest, visit a sugar cane plantation and then have a perfectly curated dinner, beachside, with all the wholesome goodness of local offerings”.
Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club has so much to offer, yet Ms. Clifford and Mr. Evanich never rest on their success. They continually strive to greet the customer from the time they arrive with fresh ideas and razor focused purpose. Solar-powered golf carts to explore the island is just one innovative idea that is in the works, as well as highly personalized concierge services that are sure to elevate your curated vacation to epic heights. Groups and large parties are welcomed at the resort with open arms and can carefully craft itineraries fit for monarchy. Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club is in a class of its own run by professionals that are passionate about making your vacation the best it can be.
FOURTH OF JULY COCKTAIL AND FOOD PAIRING
ARTICLE COURTESY OF THE SCHMIDTY WIFE
Let’s raise a glass to American independence - celebrating unity, freedom and the ideals that shaped our nation. This 4th of July we’re toasting with red, white, and blue margaritas - technically a Devil’s Margarita - a bold twist on the classic cocktail.
As you mix this festive cocktail, consider the balance of each layer. Blue gets a touch of agave syrup to add weight, while the white layer stays unsweetened to remain lighter and float above. Top-off with red wine - its lighter body rests perfectly over the tequila.
Ingredients
• Ice – For 2 glasses + shaker
• Blue Curaçao – Orange flavored blue colored liqueur creates blue layer. No real substitute, but somewhat easy to find.
• Fresh Limes – 2 limes, 3 if small.
• Blanco Tequila – Also "silver tequila".
• Agave Syrup – I tend to buy pre-made over making. If you can’t find agave syrup, no worries you can use plain simple syrup.
• Cointreau – For white layer. Cointreau, the classic liqueur found in a margarita, but you can use orange flavored liqueurs in its place, triple sec is a popular substitution.
• Red Wine – Your favorite, no need for anything special.
Instructions
1. Fill 2 highball or pint glasses with ice. Add handful of ice to a shaker. To make blue layer, add 1 ounce blue curaçao, 1 ounce lime juice, 2 ounces tequila, and 1/2 ounce agave syrup. Mix in shaker for 10-20 seconds until drink is cold. Carefully divide blue margarita evenly between the two glasses so to fill cup 1/3 of the way. Rinse shaker to remove any access blue margarita.
2. For white layer, add a handful of ice to shaker. Add 1 ounce cointreau, 1 ounce lime juice, and 2 ounces tequila. Mix in shaker for 10-20 seconds until drink is cold. To create clean layers in both glasses, use the back of spoon to slowly and evenly pour white layer over blue. Pouring gently helps the white layer float better instead of mixing - giving the perfect layered look.
3. For red layer, use about 2 ounces for each glass (depending on size). Again, use back of the spoon to slowly pour wine overtop white layer in each glass to better float. Once the red layer is poured serve immediately!

WHERE ELEVATION MEETS ASPIRATION: A GOLF AND RESORT EXPERIENCE
ARTICLE COURTESY OF MCLEMORE RESORT
Under two hours north of Atlanta lies a mountaintop escape where heritage and hospitality converge into unforgettable experiences: McLemore Resort. Perched on the edge of Lookout Mountain, McLemore is not just a destination—it’s for those who crave the soul of sport and the spirit of luxury.
There are two: The Highlands, soon-to-be-unveiled The Keep, each distinct and designed with intention. The Highlands course, renowned for its cliffside 18th hole—repeatedly named one of the top 20 finishing holes in the world—is a strategic marvel. Meanwhile, The Keep in preview play, will debut August 2025. It has already drawn national acclaim, fueling global intrigue.
Crafted by Rees Jones and Bill Bergin, The Keep represents a new chapter in course architecture: vast, windswept, and breathtaking. Utilizing natural topography, it balances challenge and accessibility, featuring wide fairways, elevated tees, and a layout that rewards strategic play. “We call it an aspirational golf experience,” says EVP Charlie Rymer, Georgia Tech two-time
All-American and former PGA Tour pro. “It’s designed to test the best and welcome newcomers with open arms.”
The course’s turf reflects bold innovation, The Keep is the first full-course in the world to feature Stadium Zoysia—a luxury turf renowned for its exceptional performance and aesthetic appeal.
The evolution of McLemore is as inspiring as its views. Scenic Land Company transformed the site with a vision that required investment and a passionate team to bring it to life.
Enter Mike Burton, President of McLemore. With experience leading luxury properties, Burton oversaw the 2024 openings of both Cloudland Hotel and The Keep. “We opened over $250 million of investment in a single year,” he says. “And it never felt stressful—it felt purposeful.”
Burton leads like a conductor, coordinating everything from agronomy and culinary to spa and homeowner services. “Our culture is simple,” he says. “Smile and have fun. People come here to feel good, and we surround them with a team that cares.”
At Cloudland Hotel, guests are greeted with “The Great Reveal”—a grand entry that opens to a sweeping vista of McLemore Cove, a national historic district bordered by Pigeon Mountain. It’s a moment that stops visitors in their tracks.
While golf is the crown jewel, Cloudland is the soul of the mountain. Opened in 2024 as part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, Cloudland blends comfort, cuisine, and curated experiences.
The hotel has quickly garnered national praise in Southern Living, HGTV, and USA Today, placing it among the Southeast’s most sought-after escapes. Its design is modern yet grounded in the landscape, inviting guests to rest and indulge.
At the hotel's heart is Auld Alliance, McLemore’s signature dining experience. A tribute to the historic bond between France and Scotland, this upscale restaurant offers a menu that combines European culinary sophistication with Southern warmth.
Guests also enjoy The Creag, McLemore’s vibrant restaurant and cocktail bar, a tranquil spa, a heated cliff-edge infinity pool, and terraces inviting yoga at sunrise or drinks at sunset.
Cloudland is also becoming a premier destination for luxury weddings, events, and executive retreats. With panoramic views, multiple venues, and a seasoned team, events here feel timeless.
“We see couples from Atlanta checking in on a Friday,” says Burton. “By Sunday, they feel like they’ve been gone a week. It’s that immersive.”
Even the name McLemore is steeped in heritage. The resort overlooks McLemore Cove, named after the Scottish McLemore family who settled the region in the 1700s and married into the Cherokee Nation. Storyboards in the clubhouse share the life of John McLemore, a Cherokee Chief and war hero. “Our logo is a Celtic cross blended with the bloom of a Cherokee dogwood,” Rymer explains. “It symbolizes our past and the land’s sacred nature.”
The Keep’s name has meaning, evoking fortified castles, ancient Christian symbols, and the idea of protecting what matters most.
“There’s soul here,” says Burton. “This isn’t just a course or a resort—it’s a place that grounds you.” McLemore’s 20-year plan is shaping a lasting legacy.
McLemore offers something rare: space to breathe, beauty to absorb, and an experience to remember.
It’s time to elevate your hospitality experience. It’s time to discover McLemore.
Over 16 million U.S. adults are diagnosed with Dry Eye Disease (DED), with higher rates among women and older adults.
DED occurs when your eyes don’t make enough tears or produce poor-quality ones, leading to inadequate lubrication.
DED SYMPTOMS:
• Burning, stinging, scratchy eyes
• Sensitivity to light
• Blurry vision, eye fatigue
• Redness, watery eyes
• Feeling like something’s in your eye
Summer can be especially tough on dry eyes due to heat, sun, air conditions, and outdoor allergens. Protect your eyes this summer:
Wear sunglasses to shield eyes from sun, wind, and dust
Avoid air blowing directly into your eyes
Drink plenty of water as dehydration can worsen dry eye symptoms
Take frequent screen breaks
