It is hard to believe that September is here. In the blink of an eye, summer was here, and now it is gone. I think all the rain we had made it go by even faster than normal. September is a month of transition. Summer changes to fall, kids go back to school, and we start to get ready for the winter ahead. September is also the month where we celebrate style!
Style is a multifaceted concept that permeates various aspects of our lives, influencing not only our appearance but also our behavior, environment, and perceptions.
Our personal style, the way we dress, reflects our personality, mood, and even our aspirations. It can boost confidence and self-esteem, making us feel more comfortable and authentic. It also serves as a form of non-verbal communication, conveying messages about who we are to others.
The style of our living spaces affects our mood and productivity. A well-designed space can promote relaxation, creativity, and efficiency. For instance, a minimalist style with clean lines and uncluttered spaces can create a sense of calm and order, while a vibrant, eclectic style can stimulate energy and inspiration.
How we express ourselves, whether verbally or in writing, impacts our relationships and professional success. A clear, assertive communication style can foster mutual respect and understanding, while a more passive or aggressive style can lead to misunderstandings and conflict.
Our approach to work, whether structured and systematic or flexible and adaptive, affects our productivity and job satisfaction. Different styles suit different tasks and environments; understanding and leveraging our natural work style can lead to better performance and fulfillment.
Style is a powerful tool that shapes our identity, interactions, and environments. Recognizing and embracing different aspects of style can lead to a more balanced, fulfilling, and harmonious life.
As always, I would like to thank all of Eagan City Lifestyle’s sponsors. Their generous support enables us to get our magazine directly into our readers’ homes. Please don’t hesitate to contact me (amy.sousa@citylifestyle.com) if you have a story to share or a business to recommend.

How Diana Nordeen of Glo Skin Studio Is Improving Lives Through Personalized Skincare
Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Diana Nordeen, founder of Glo Skin Studio in West St. Paul. Within just a few moments, it was obvious to me the passion that she has for her business, and for the clients that she gets to work with every day. Glo Skin Studio isn’t just a boutique medi spa, it’s her calling.
Diana is an experienced esthetician with 15 years in the field. And, she’s been changing lives through skincare since she opened her studio in November 2021. But how she got into the skincare business didn’t take a linear path.
It started in her mid-twenties when she suddenly faced severe acne. Her experience wasn’t unique; an estimated 50% of women will experience some degree of acne during that time in their lives. Yet, despite trying various treatments, nothing was working. And she wanted to avoid harsh solutions like Accutane. So, she turned to natural remedies and started exploring how personalized skin care could help with acne and rejuvenate the skin.
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Diana was uncertain about her next steps after college. It was during her first facial that she had an epiphany. “When I got my first facial and laid on the table, I knew this could be a fulfilling career for me,” she recalls. Growing up without spa visits, this experience opened her eyes to a world where she could help others take care of their skin.
Diana attended the Aveda Institute and then worked for Lifetime Fitness for 12 years, learning more and more about skincare, including medical esthetics and laser treatments. Her goal has always been to help others correct their skin issues and feel better about themselves.
At Glo Skin Studio, Diana has carefully chosen services and products that are accessible to most people. “Not everyone can afford high-cost treatments,” she shared with me during our conversation. “And not everyone needs high-cost treatments, either.”
Diana focuses on educating and teaching her clients about the origins and causes of skin issues. She believes that what clients do at home is where it all starts. “Home care regimens evolve based on the skin's condition, the season we are in, etc.,” she explains. Diana customizes these regimens, improving her clients' skin by determining the best approach for their needs.
Working progressively with her patients, Diana starts with basic treatments and gradually moves to more advanced ones based on long-term goals. She believes in combo therapy, combining multiple treatments to achieve the best results. Her focus is always on what the patients want. She doesn’t believe in just offering the latest trends.
Diana is a double-certified acne specialist with a proacne program that works like a boot camp. She helps clients
establish the right home care, reviews lifestyle factors contributing to acne, and determines routine treatments. If clients follow her guidance, she says there is a 90% success rate in as little as 90 days. However, realistic expectations are a must, as results can take longer when you don’t make the right changes to your lifestyle.
Living a lifestyle that reduces toxins herself, Diana approaches skincare naturally and holistically. While she admits there aren't entirely organic lines that deliver amazing results, she has carefully selected pharmaceutical-grade products that are mostly non-toxic. Her whole-body approach considers all aspects of a client’s lifestyle and skin condition.
Though not a medical provider, Diana speaks from personal experience and extensive collaboration with other professionals. And she has these practical tips to offer our readers:
• Wear sunscreen every day, year-round. If outside for prolonged periods, reapply every 90 minutes to two hours (or sooner if in water or heavily sweating).
• Drink a minimum of 80 ounces of water per day.
• Try to minimize inflammatory foods in your diet, specifically processed sugar, excess dairy, and wheat.
• Don’t sleep in your make-up. Be sure to remove it completely before you go to bed.
• Make sure your skin cleanser is pH-balanced.
Men also benefit from Diana’s expertise. “I wish more men were speaking out and asking for assistance with their skin,” she says, noting that interest among men is growing.
Acne remains Diana's clients' top concern, followed by the desire for an even skin tone. Glo Skin Studio offers all the services you can hope for in a boutique medi spa near you, from acne programs and chemical peels to microneedling and more. While some procedures yield instant results, others take time, as true skin transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Once goals are achieved, Diana emphasizes that maintenance is a must to protect the health and appearance of the skin.
Diana’s passion for skincare and her dedication to helping others was evident throughout our conversation. Her own experience battling acne to becoming a leading esthetician is so inspiring. And it shows that with the right guidance and care, radiant skin is achievable for everyone. Are you ready to rejuvenate your skin and find that inner glow? Book your appointment online with Glo Skin Studio today.

AND SHOPPING? YES, PLEASE!
Tucked away on Duckwood Drive in Eagan is a coffee shop like no other. It offers all the traditional coffees you could imagine, but it also offers unique flavors that not only tantalize the tastebuds but also have you wondering what to try next.
Recently, I chatted with Marcy Baumann, owner of Vendella, that very coffee house—or should I say coffee haus— and euro-style boutique. It’s a unique place in every way, and Marcy’s story and sense of style mean it's a new experience every time you walk in the door. Trust me; what makes Vendella a place of its own is its exceptional coffee, unique, eclectic style, and boutique offerings that Marcy has meticulously curated.
Marcy shared with me that over the past three decades, she has had the pleasure of visiting coffee shops across the U.S. and Europe. Each experience left an indelible mark, shaping her understanding of what makes a coffee shop truly special.
Marcy never intended to open a coffee shop, but her love for unique shopping experiences and a great cup of coffee inspired her to create something extraordinary. "When Vendella started to become a reality, there was no question we would have a boutique element, loaded with gifts and accessories you couldn’t find anywhere else," Marcy shared.
Marcy’s personal style is a fusion she calls "Scandohemian." It combines Scandinavian minimalism and Bohemian layers. "In Sweden, we find two strong styles: minimal and timeless colorful layers. Scandohemian describes the combination of the two," she explained. This style is evident in the clean lines of Vendella’s clothing and jewelry, mixed with comfort, texture, and a touch of the unexpected.

"I want you to walk out of our boutique with a gift or article you can wear that is functional art, understated or a little outrageous, but either way practical and something you’ll want to use," Marcy
For clothing, Vendella is moving towards more versatile, one-size-fitsmost items like kimonos and jackets. "Hands down, my favorite item I wear all year round is our marshmallow
emphasized. Her careful selection process involves sourcing from local artists, international fair trade vendors, and unique items that are simply too cute to pass up. This dedication makes sure that every piece at Vendella is something she would wear or want to receive as a gift.
Recently, Marcy pivoted her jewelry selection to focus on waterproof, sterling silver, stainless steel, and goldfilled pieces. "These new metal combinations have been a game changer where we can afford to own several pieces that will never tarnish and can last a lifetime," she noted. The current trend is to layer these pieces, creating a stylish and personal look.
Another popular item at Vendella is their ever-changing selection of blue-light and reader glasses. Marcy constantly searches for new designs; even this small accessory is designed to express the wearer's personality.
ridiculously soft Nordic Beach jacket," Marcy shared. Designed in California for chilly beach evenings, these jackets are perfect for Minnesota’s variable weather, whether boating, around a campfire, or traveling. Marcy shares, “We are trying to do more custom orders on local and European items made just for you.”
I’ll let you in on a little secret for those not yet in the know. The coffee shop has a secret menu, a fun twist that invites visitors to discover hidden gems. "One of our core values is to be intentionally simple, stick to what we know, and streamline our menu to do what we do really well," Marcy explained. Yet, the secret menu offers many exceptional flavor combinations. Marcy’s favorite, Angie’s Puerto Rico, features banana and coconut layers paired with a double or triple shot of espresso.
For the inner foodies in Eagan, the Kasebrote is a must-try. This signature open-faced toasted sandwich, lovingly named “The Renate” after Marcy’s kids’ grandmother in Germany, combines sourdough toast with mustard, salami, onion, pineapple, and Havarti cheese.
Vendella is more than just a place to enjoy coffee and shop; it’s a community hub. Further, Marcy and her team host blood drives every 60 days, support Foster Minnesota families, and organize various support groups. "We truly want to be the heart of the South Metro," Marcy said.
Many people still don’t know about Vendella. And from another Minnesotan Scandinavian, I can tell you that I think that’s about to change.
So, next time you’re in Eagan, bring your friends to Vendella for a coffee, some shopping, and a chance to experience the unique Scandohemian style firsthand. Whether you’re looking for a special gift, a stylish accessory, or a cozy spot to relax, Vendella is your home away from home.

Pedego e-bikes are just as fun as they are practical!
ARTICLE BY DAVID SCHELLER
Pedego offers an e-bike for every budget and lifestyle. Looking for an entry-level model that’ll help you keep up with your companions? Check out the Comfort Cruiser. Need a fat-tired conqueror of subpar road conditions? The Element won’t slip up. Want the accessibility of a classic step-through? Go test out the Boomerang at either of Pedego’s official dealerships in Eden Prairie or Mendota Heights.
If you’re only just joining the e-bike craze, then you’ve successfully waited until the arrival of Pedego’s neatest two models to date: the Moto, which has updated the free-spirited moped lifestyle for the 21st century, and the Cargo, which can transport payloads as heavy as 500 pounds.
“The Moto is great for daily commutes to campus or work,” said Tony Gaffney, owner of Pedego Twin Cities. “Its ‘70s-style banana seat can accommodate any friend you’d like to take to happy hour as well. And there’s no
need for auto insurance because e-bikes aren’t classified as motor vehicles.
“Like all Pedego e-bikes, the Moto lets you use as much or as little pedal assist as you care for, and has an independent throttle for quick intersection crossings. If you’re really going on a journey, the Moto’s 20-amp battery will get you there: up to 75 miles on a single charge, with front and back shocks to keep you comfortable the whole trip.
“That’s nothing compared to the Cargo, which can carry you up to 135 miles (if you opt for the double-battery model). It is a true sport utility e-bike, which can safely carry a full load of groceries in addition to an adult or child passenger. Plenty of families have already replaced one of their vehicles with a Cargo.”
Wear what Tony calls the “permanent e-bike smile.”
Test out the Moto, Cargo, or any of Pedego’s other revolutionary e-bikes at their Eden Prairie location at 9719 Valley View Road, or their Mendota Heights location at 1355 Mendota Heights Road. Visit pedegoelectricbikes.com to learn more!
Embark on a journey of boundless exploration with the Moto – Pedego’s ultimate dual-sport e-bike that exemplifies the essence of adventure. The Moto is designed to take electric biking to new horizons.
• A flash from the past. The Moto’s classic moped-style frame comes complete with an appealing banana seat.
• A smooth ride. With front and rear suspension, you’ll barely feel the road beneath your sweet mag wheels.

• A Swiss Army e-bike. A wide range of aftermarket accessories turn the Cargo into the ideal multi-use errand-running grocery-hauling child-transporting e-bike.
• A beast of burden. Despite weighing just over 100 pounds, the aptly named Cargo can safely carry up to a quarter ton.
• A zippy ride. The Cargo boasts impressive acceleration, with a 750W rear hub motor that easily reaches speeds up to 20 mph.

CREATE A STUNNING AND DYNAMIC OUTDOOR SPACE THAT WILL BE ENJOYED THROUGHOUT THE SEASONS
As the crisp autumn air settles in Minnesota, gardeners have the perfect opportunity to plant bulbs that will transform their gardens into vibrant canvases of color come spring. The key to a show-stopping garden lies in choosing the right bulbs that thrive in Minnesota’s climate and sun exposure. By planting these bulbs in the fall, gardeners can look forward to a breathtaking display of colors and forms in the spring. Selecting bulbs that bloom at different times throughout the year will ensure continuous color and interest in your garden. Proper planting depth, spacing, soil conditions, and occasional fertilization will ensure a healthy, vibrant garden that pops with life after the long winter.
With their dense, fragrant flower spikes, hyacinths are a sensory delight. Hyacinths bloom in early spring and come in a range of colors, including pink, purple, blue, and white. Plant hyacinth bulbs 6 inches deep and 4 inches apart in well-drained soil and a sunny spot for best results. 01 02 03 04
These perennial bulbs bloom in early spring, offering a spectrum of colors from deep reds to soft pastels. Their versatility makes them a favorite for adding striking visual interest to any garden. Plant tulip bulbs in welldrained soil and ensure they get plenty of sunlight. They should be planted about 6-8 inches deep and spaced 4-6 inches apart.
Known for their cheerful yellow and white blooms, daffodils are hardy and deer-resistant, making them ideal for Minnesota gardens. They prefer full to partial sun and welldrained soil. Plant daffodil bulbs 6 inches deep and 6 inches apart. They naturalize well, meaning they can spread and return year after year with minimal effort.
These early bloomers are among the first to emerge in spring, often peeking through the snow. Their vibrant purple, yellow, and white flowers are a welcome sign of the changing seasons. Crocuses are best planted in clusters about 3 inches deep and 3 inches apart to create a stunning ground cover.
