Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.

Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world, and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.

As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Eagan to uplift our spirits, boost our productivity, and ignite our creativity.

A Brightly Shining Landmark in the Heart of St. Paul

Landmark Jewelers sits on Saint Peter St. in St. Paul, in the street-front shop in the historic Hamm Building it has occupied since 1883. But this jewelry store isn’t quite the same as the chain store jewelry stores you might be more familiar with. This store boasts character, comfort, and a unique charm you just can’t put your finger on (pun intended).

You’ll see beautiful giftware in stunning display cabinets along one side of the store, ranging from crystal vases to dishes and more.

Throughout the rest of the store, you’ll see gemstones shining brightly, just waiting to add sparkle and a touch of joy to whomever it will adorn. But perhaps most bright within this iconic fine jewelry store is co-owner Tamara Sparrow.

As my wedding ring, earrings, and pendant necklace received a complimentary cleaning,

I asked Tamara to tell me her story and how her place at Landmark Jewelers came to be.

KEEPING THE SHINE ONBOTH VINTAGE AND NEW

Tamara and her brother, Jeff Sparrow, took ownership of Landmark Jewelers in January 2023. Tamara shared how her experience in the jewelry industry spans nearly 18 years, from when she started as an office manager with another jewelry store.

And until she went in for that interview, Sparrow said she had never been in a fine jewelry store before. As she tells the story, her face lights up as she describes the joy and wonderment she experienced checking in “all the sparkly jewelry.”

It wasn’t long before Sparrow found that her passion was for more than just jewelry CONTINUED >

She had a business sense, too, working her way up, moving from office manager to sales associate and finally to assistant store manager. She learned the ropes but soon realized she wanted more flexibility and freedom than a jewelry store backed by a corporation could offer.

“I wanted to work for an independent jewelry store,” she reminisced. “And then I stumbled upon Landmark Jewelers. I was immediately captivated by the charm of the store.”

Sparrow was soon introduced to then-owner Sarah and was given the opportunity she didn’t realize she’d been dreaming of. For the next 13 years, Sarah took Tamara under her wing, teaching her all that the business had to offer. So it only made sense that as retirement began to loom for the current owner, she would look to her protege for interest in taking it over. “I wasn’t sure at first,” said Sparrow. But during a dinner conversation with one of her brothers, Tamara mentioned buying the landmark jewelry store. Before she knew it, she had a co-investor, and the sister-brother team made the decision to move forward.

Jeff focuses on the back office today, and Tamara manages the storefront. “We’re in the happy business. We get to celebrate and be part of people’s most joyous occasions.”

But as mentioned earlier, this store isn’t just your typical run-of-the-mill jewelry store. “We host events of all kinds. Whether it is an event for the community or a private event such as an engagement or even a ladies’ night get-together amidst the jewelry,” Tamara says they can cater to just about any need.

Landmark Jewelers offers free jewelry cleaning, watch and jewelry repair, appraisals, and anything you could ask for in a fine jewelry establishment.

As I departed and stood in awe of some of the pieces in the brightly lit cases, Tamara shared that “yellow gold is all the rage right now. So are the fancy shapes such as the oval, pear, marquise, and radiant cuts. Still popular, too, is the classic solitaire with matching bands.” So whether you are looking for a traditional, modern, or truly vintage piece, Landmark Jewelers has what you’re looking for, ready to help you make the perfect statement.

More Than a Men’s Clothing Store - It’s an Experience

Located just 20 minutes from Eagan, on the corner of 6th St. and Saint Peter St. in St. Paul, MN, sits an iconic men’s clothing retailer you may never have heard of. But the moment you step inside, you’ll wonder why it took you so long to pay a visit.

Walking into Heimie’s Haberdashery, you’ll feel like you are stepping back in time. You’ll feel in awe and immediately at ease as you admire the mesmerizing displays of classic hats, suits, shirts, shoes, and more. Of course, you won’t get too far without being greeted by one of Heimie’s sales professionals. Take Keith Dorsett, Heimie’s district manager, for example.

Dorsett will tell you he’s the quiet one. But before long, you’ll feel like you’re the best of friends. At least, that’s how it felt for me, as Dorsett gave me a tour of the shop. As we meandered through each room, I was inspired by the impeccable quality of each and every ware for sale. His love and passion for his job also rang out loud throughout our conversation.

But what makes Heimie’s stand out most is the experience. “It’s the total lifestyle,” said Dorsett. “We’re a destination location. It’s about connecting with our customers. We know

it’s all about how we make people feel when leaving our store.”

HEIMIE’S - A FAMILY LEGACY SINCE 1921

At Heimie’s, you can expect more than just a selection of men’s clothing. The shop offers custom tailoring with suits for any occasion. Think of attire for the Kentucky Derby, attending the opera, or participating in a local community fundraiser or benefit. “We cater to men who want to dress well,” said Dorsett.

Owner Anthony (Heimie) Andler shared that his family has been in the tailoring business for over 200 years. “It’s what I know how to do,” he said. Andler’s grandfather, Heimie (whom the shop is named after), “taught me how to sew, how to make patterns, and more.” He elaborated on his love for being a merchant and mentioned the irony that his last name, Andler, has roots as a derivative of the very word “merchant.”

Andler elaborated and explained how he sold custom bags at the art gallery he owned in his early years. He later sold that business, and it wasn’t much longer before he opened Heimie’s Haberdashery. “After World War II,

my grandfather entered men’s apparel and retail. When he passed away, I decided to open the store, naming it to honor his legacy. And of course, ‘haberdashery’  was simply a tie to the era where our concept and commitment to quality were born,” Andler shared.

Originally located just down the road, the shop moved to its current location about 15 years ago. Today’s store combines that commitment to quality with high-end men’s clothing in an experiential environment.

DISCOVER AN EXPERIENTIAL ENVIRONMENT

During your visit to Heimie’s, you can receive a clean, classic cut and a close shave from one of the barbers, Mario or Michael Sierra. Select your preferred cut and shave options from their menu to attain your desired appearance, and the expert barbers will handle the rest. Step out feeling refreshed and more confident than ever, prepared to conquer the world.

Or, wander deeper into the shop and discover the tobacconist and coffee shop. Supplied by a local cigar maker, Heimie’s Haberdashery carries an impressive variety of cigars in their humidor.

But wait, there’s more. The building is so iconic and beautiful that you can host an on-site event. The event room features a grand procession staircase, carved wooden bar, cabaret-lit stage, and getting-ready rooms for the bride and groom. There’s even access to a kitchen for catering staff.

In this iconic location, men and their wedding attendants can select suits custom-tailored to their precise measurements. They can get a haircut and shave. They can get footwear, hats, and accessories — anything they could possibly need for a night out on the town, for a gala, or their wedding day.

THE HABERDASHER’S COUCH

Heimie’s offers an entertainment aspect, too, drawing upon owner Adler’s passion for acting. This weekly show is shot right in the haberdashery’s event room. The Haberdasher’s Couch showcases local businesses, comedians, actors, and songwriters and talks about style and fashion. The show is formatted as a salute to the old-style vaudeville stage — you can watch Heimie and Dorsett talk about new talent, restaurants, music, and fashion.

“Heimie’s is about a lifestyle,” reiterated Dorsett. You can experience it for yourself by visiting the location in St. Paul or their second location in historic Red Wing. Or, tune in by searching up the Haberdasher’s Couch with a quick Google search. You’ll be glad you did — trust me.

MAKE YOUR HOUSE A HOME

Designing a home for daily life is much different than staging your home for sale. Home design is your greatest opportunity to take your personal space and use it to reflect who you are to your guests, but more importantly, it creates a space for you to rejuvenate and give you security. You can take meaningful items and make them a major focus while tying them into the larger design scheme. In this article, we’re going to focus on how each piece in your home contributes to its function in your daily life with easy-to-update features.

COLOR

The colors you surround yourself with affect your mood. If you want to relax, surround yourself with neutrals. If you want to feel inspired, add a variety of colors. Be careful with adding paint; paint is permanent and can be expensive to cover. Instead, try shades of white and decorate with accent furniture, pillows, vinyl removable wallpaper, or art. My favorite is when you choose one color, perhaps blue, and tie it into pieces throughout the home. Gold accents and hardware are other popular trends currently.

FURNITURE

Manufacturers are making major improvements in stain-resistant furniture, so don’t feel bad about using light colors to brighten a room when you know that the stains will be easy to remove. The days of dark furniture to hide stains are out! I love using furniture with a pop of color to tie intothe theme of the whole home decor.

TEXTURE

Texture is the most subtle thing you can add to make your home feel like a luxury getaway. Play with patterned woodwork, strong lines in shelving, structured light fixtures, bold pillows, interesting tile patterns, or rugs to brighten up the room. An easy way to update is to put a tray in the middle of your coffee table or kitchen counter. You can use this tray to add more feature pieces.

Relaxed interiors that reflect your personality.

INSPIRATION

This is your time to focus on what matters most in your life. If you love spending time outdoors, find a way to bring the outdoors in with some of your trinkets. Focus on your favorite vacations by having a feature wall with photos of your trips. Of course, your most important feature is focusing on the family that lives in this space. A uniform way to have a creative display of your favorite photos is by having similar frames. Then try a matching wood texture but change up the matboard of the photo within the frame to make the photos pop.
