friends,Hello

September is known as the fashion and style issue in the magazine world, and we are thrilled to participate in the trend. Not only are we bringing you fashion that will help keep you on top of the latest styles, but we are also sharing stylish interior spaces and trendy hotspots around town. Styles are ever-changing, and the fashion world continuously brings us a fresh new take on something from generations past or shares an entirely new concept for us to enjoy. Each decade has its own unique trends, and although some cycle back decades later, the originality of each look that is reflected often times is connected to the culture and music of the day.  Our team executed a gorgeous fashion shoot for the issue, on location at a stunning home currently listed by Lydia Smith and Cliff Milam. The photos by Tim Kramer offer a glimpse into the brightness of the Sandestin home. With the changing of seasons comes the time for a closet refresh, and we have you covered with where to find the newest fall styles around town. Fashion choices can reveal a little bit of our personality, so it is a great way to express ourselves. So bring on fall in your own best style, and we will see you around town. Andare di Moda ,

AND

A TASTE OF

CHARM 22

A perfectly cooked steak served graciously, in a beautifully decorated restaurant is one of the ultimate dining experiences. Add a 24k crust on the filet mignon and a Lavender Martini and dinner becomes an elegant destination of a lifetime.  If you’ve been to the Latitude Plaza recently, you may have noticed a new business making itself at home: Commelfó Restaurant. The restaurant had its grand opening in June where generous VIP guests notably raised $1200 for Children in Crisis, partnering with owners Vincent and Nadya Musabirova (pictured above) in support of the non-profit’s good work to provide homes and keep brothers and sis ters together in foster homes. To catch you up to speed, the team at Commelfó focuses on modern American dining with a “little touch of European zest,” according to the restaurant’s owner, Vincent. Vincent and his wife Nadya opened EUROPE COASTAL

the restaurant to fill the gap they saw while looking for fine dining or breakfast spots in their area.

“Every time [we went] out to eat, it was a problem for us,” Vincent tells Destin City Lifestyle. “Of course, we wanted to dress up nicely and have delicious food, but we didn’t want to drive too far for it.” After speaking with others and realizing they weren’t the only ones looking for an alter native dining option, they chose to create that place themselves. For this reason, Commelfó is the spot for a variety of dining options and operates somewhat differently from its contempo raries. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and its menu caters to a wide variety of tastes and events. The sig nature dishes are the 24k gold encrusted steaks (fillet or ribeye) and New Zealand rack of lamb. And of course, the  Lavender Martini shaken with Grey Goose and gar nished with mint and lavender.  What ties these various options together is the presentation. “Our goal is to make the food not only delicious but also presented beautifully,” Vincent says. The aesthetic that defines  Commelfó symbolizes the presence that its owners hope the restau rant to be in Miramar Beach. “Everything is my wife’s vision,” Vincent tells us. Nadya chose green because it is “the color of life, nature, and energy,” thus representing “growth, harmony, and safety.” Gold, the secondary color in Commelfó’s brand, is “the color of extravagance.” Together, the green and gold hues exemplify the restau rateurs’ vision for the project. Through all of this, Vincent and Nadya have worked to be a part of their local community and give back while maintain ing their brand integrity. Almost all of the ingredients they use are bought fresh from local providers, and as much as they can make in-house, they do. So if you are looking for a great place to take a date, or somewhere with a spectac ular selection of quality food, Commelfó is here for you. The restaurant is located at 10859 Emerald Coast Parkway #303, Miramar Beach. View their menu and learn more by visiting Commelfo.com . Lavender Martini

The home has 3 wine storage areasone of which is a full tasting room and cellar

Pulling into the private gated brick courtyard, the bright white estate topped with its terracotta-clay tile roof feels like a Grecian resort instead of a home at Burnt Pine in Sandestin. With sweeping views of Choctawhatchee Bay water and the Burnt Pine Golf Course, the home is as warm as it is wonderful.

“While this home is certainly perfect for entertain ing friends, family or for events, it is a wonderful space and community for empty nesters who may have the occasional guest or even a young family,” says Lydia Smith of Cole Blair Properties who is co-listing with Cliff Milam at Paradise Property Brokers. Both agents have 20-plus years of experience in the area.

Our tour took us through the five-bedroom, six-bath room home and we then fell in love with the patio space with its dreamy pool, full outdoor kitchen, and adjacent air-conditioned gathering space with a grill and tradi tional brick pizza oven. Around the corner on the prop erty are private shady courtyards for reading or napping.

As our readers know, in addition to four golf courses in the community, Sandestin Resort also has a wonder ful marina within a golf cart drive from the house with a boat club, recreational fishing and sport fishing tour naments. There’s a great tennis facility with pickleball as well as an easy connector to Grand Boulevard by golf cart. “Burnt Pine is the most prestigious and private area in Sandestin Resort. Also nearly equal distance to two airports,” notes Lydia. Atlanta interior designer, Denise Rogness worked her magic across the 8,000-plus square feet to create a seam less and engaging space. With incredible views, a perfect neutral palette, impeccable design finishes and furnish ings, it truly feels like home.

“A few of my favorites about this house? The electric gates for parking pads, guest house, full pool bath, full his and her bathroom and closet areas and a full living area in the master bedroom,” says Lydia. “The luxurious natural gardens and planters, a dog run and enclosed area with natural turf plus a cool herb germination refrigerator are quite remarkable.”

LOCAL LIMELIGHT | LIFE + CULTURE The New Barbershop Model: Clark’s Barber Lounge ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS Convenience and a cut: drop your car off for service or hit the gym, then visit your barber. 28

ClarksBarberLounge.com IG: ClarksBarberLounge

Clark’s barbers are a diverse groupDominican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Bulgarian and from around the states. And, they all stay busy. Across all four shops, Joe is participating in a pilot for a new software that makes monthly sub scriptions, online bookings and paying and tip ping easier.  He wanted to make it easier for regu lars and locals to book and get the appointments they need and depend on. “Our most common subscription is for twice a month, though some come in weekly - especially our military custom ers,” he says. “And, because of this new software model, it’s the first time our barbers are able to depend on a secure income with recurring reve nue from these subscribers. They can always take walk-ins and work late to increase their earnings, but every barber should have at least 50 regulars for a good pace and income.”  His barbers like to average 10 customers a day, and up to 16 or so.

Joe is devoted to his job and loves to take care of people, in business here for more than 10 years. His customers say it’s his consistency and energy that keep them coming back. You may find him in a 3-piece suit, or on the warmest day, more casual but equally as composed and dressed to impress.

When a customer sits down for a “Signature Haircut” they can expect the full attention of the barber for 45 minutes to an hour, enjoying a hair wash, cut and style “Our barbers love these appointments since they are able to express cre ativity and consult with their customer on their wishes based on a discussion on their lifestyle and desired look,” says Joe.  He owns Clark’s Barber Shop Lounge “HeadQuarters” in Fort Walton Beach, Clark’s Barbershop at the Destin Health & Fitness Club in Destin, Clark’s Barbershop in the Buick GMC Cadillac service department on Miracle Strip and Clark’s Barbershop in the Buick BMC showroom in Pensacola. The genius idea to locate his barber lounges in high-end car dealerships and a top fitness club came from discussions with his family, his foundation and inspiration. “The Destin barber shop is very unique at the fitness club. Everyone is working to look good. The gym is always busy. Clients can see us cutting hair when they work out and it’s a value to get a haircut, with showers and a nice locker room for their convenience.”

29| CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/DESTINSEPTEMBER 2022

Joe Clark believes in style. His confidence is contagious. The businessman owns four barber shops and with more than a dozen professional barbers, hair stylists and aestheticians on his team, his market share continues to grow, bring ing good-looking people together to build com munity and, of course, provide excellent hair care services to discerning men (and women).

The creativity of Joe’s business model is a nat ural progression. “My brother and father and the entire family are very important as are my travels and all the people I meet.” He started in Puerto Rico and has worked in Miami and New York with guest stints in cosmopolitan areas like Atlanta. He brings an urban edge and appreciation for individuality to everything he does. Anytime he’s behind the chair, though, he works hard to discover the look and style his guest is looking for. “When someone brings a photo - which I encourage, I look more at the setting and scene, the vibe, not just the haircut since hair types are all so different,” he says. He finds people are generally more stylesavvy now with honed expectations based on what they see on social media for a stylist.

“Barbers really develop their personal profile, with photos and expressions of interests and personality, along with reviews and customers can connect with a barber or stylist who seems intriguing and a good fit.”
