Welcome to the 2024 Denver North Home Issue. As the Publisher of Denver North, I am excited to bring this issue to you for several reasons.  First, it's the Home Issue and everybody loves the Home Issue.  I also have the privilege of representing many home related businesses and people with proven track records of excellence in their work.  With your own home needs in mind, please take the time to learn about each business and see if they are a fit for your needs.  If you have a question, don't hesitate to call them.  They would all love to help to help with your needs.  If you just need some advice, they are there for that also.

After a successful run at Dairy Block in 2023, Konbini Denver, an interactive art installation by artist and creative force, Jeff Fierberg has moved to The Source Market Hall, 3300 Brighton Boulevard through March 2024. Part photography exhibition, part convenience store, the show highlights the ubiquitous Konbini culture of Japan in which local convenience store franchises are the hub of everyday life.

Kristen Abell fell in love with Colorado in the mountains of Crested Butte.  She and her family would road trip from Oklahoma to ski over Spring Break.  Kristen knew that one day she would call Colorado home.  Now, Kristen makes her living sharing the dream of owning a home in Colorado with all her clients!

"No matter where you are, it should feel like home."  Bonnie Sen, of BARI Architecture, believes this with all her heart and lets this quote drive the vision of her and husband Tom Milavec's incredible designs.  Bari is an Indian word that means shelter, home, or house.  Tom and Bonnie beautifully translate this into design they call "warm minimalism".  What is "warm minimalism"?  It is a balance in design of clean, modern, minimal, and yet still warm with color, texture, and pattern.  It is the ultimate mashup of modern and warm...it is a home that looks chic and clean, but still feels like a home where real people live.  This style of design is truly for everyone. It is scalable, fun, and accessible for any client because it maintains the dignity of the home and considers the human factor of design.

There is a nod to the Scandinavia in BARI's design which makes sense since Tom and Bonnie met in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2005.  Tom is originally from the West Coast and Bonnie is from Calcutta, India, making their influence truly global.  They are passionate about custom residential design because it is fulfilling to be fully, emotionally invested with their clients.  They love watching people re-investing in their homes and unlocking what they love about their homes.  Tom and Bonnie are also magicians when it comes to transforming spaces and adapting them for a completely unique use.  Anyone who can change a Joe's Crab Shack into an adult care facility is astounding!

A gift not a curse

Over the years I have learned to channel my emotions, learn from myself, to recognize who I am, my achievements and also my weaknesses.

I often hear conversations about people who have a particular talent, those who are awarded the label of “being different.”  If I could describe myself, maybe I would say that I am different.

Tell you that for a long time, I disliked not being the same as others or having the same tastes or simply not fitting into a society.

As I grew as a person, I found the explanations to all those strange questions that repeatedly went through my head. “Why am I different?”  “Actually I want to be different, is it normal to have this strange dissociation in which there are excess feelings and emotions?”

Now that I understand and recognize myself.  I love talking to others about how wonderful it is to be extraordinary, about the giant quality that this means, about the ability to inspire and heal others based on artistic ability. I have come to understand that with this ability, I create. Helping others to visually fall in love through my paintings is a beautiful gift and deserves to be shown.

This writing is intended to motivate, insist and inspire all those who are still there, without showing themselves artistically. The Warrior House Program, based in Denver, CO, stands as a beacon of hope for veterans facing homelessness or at risk due to substance abuse and other life-controlling challenges. Operated by Houses for Warriors, Inc., this nonprofit organization is unique in that it is not only dedicated to assisting veterans but is also run by veterans themselves. The program is structured to instill discipline, promote positive behaviors, and guide participants towards a path of self-sufficiency and success.

At its core, the Warrior House Program embraces a holistic approach, recognizing that true transformation encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. Veterans entering the program embark on a journey that involves meditation, exercise, yoga, outdoor recreation, life skills workshops, and job training. These elements are reintroduced into the lives of warriors, aiming to restore a sense of balance and purpose.

The program's vision extends beyond mere assistance; it aspires to produce graduates who are not only self-sufficient but also successful contributors to society. The mission is clear: to help veterans achieve

All Warriors commence their journey at the Orientation Level, with opportunities for advancement contingent upon the choices made. Invitational exhibit has a tradition of starting each new year with a wild mix of genres and artists that don’t adhere to a particular theme or aesthetic. This year is no different. Curator Bill Thomason is using this year’s exhibition as a chance to introduce Colorado artists that he has not shown before.

Join us at Washington Park for some shenanigans!  Runnin' of the Green (ROTG) is a family-friendly  7K and  2 Mile race/walk celebrating Irish traditions, Saint Patrick’s Day, and Spring!  The event promises to be a day filled with Irish fun, live music, awards, and even cold beer.  Don't forget your bagpipes!
