One of my absolute favorite places to grab a cocktail after a long day is L'Auberge Del Mar. The ambiance, the staff and the view are all world-class. The amazing bar staff shared with us some of their cocktail recipes from their ever-rotating cocktail menu. Finally - the countdown clocks are getting closer to 00:00:00 for the highly anticipated Breeders' Cup World Championships. We welcome this event next month but all monthlong, people and the town will be gearing up. The week prior to the races is the Breeders' Cup Festival with many events taking place throughout town and at the special event space called the Barn at the Beach which will be constructed at Powerhouse Park. harles Koll moved to Del Mar when he was 5-years-old. After short stints in Colorado and San Francisco, he discovered his passion — pairing seasonal food with craft beer. He soon realized he could share this passion with others, so he returned to his adopted hometown.

And thus, Viewpoint Brewing Co. was born, becoming Del Mar’s first craft brewery. Viewpoint opened this July; its beginnings are fairly straightforward. “I really didn't think about much except wanting to make good beer and food and create a great space to do those things in,” says Koll. Offering something new to an area can be risky, but Koll’s relationship with locals allowed him to see that it was a welcome addition. “The community supported me throughout the process of opening and still continue to, and I'm pretty lucky for it.” And he doesn’t do it alone.

1/4 sliced pear

3 dr bitters, Angostura

drizzle lemon juice
