I don’t know about you but I love any opportunity to recognize the women in my life who just make life more rich and beautiful. Our wives, mothers and daughters are some of the most influential women in our lives.
And of course with Mother’s Day this month, all eyes are on moms… But it’s not just the biological mothers but the mother figures in our lives who have made an indelible impact on us. It’s the family members, teachers, friends and neighbors doing awesome things in our communities, pouring into our lives - making themselves unforgettable and irreplaceable.
I became a publisher because my mother was a publisher and writer. She pushed both my brother and I into the industry, with my brother becoming an editor of a national magazine and now I am the publisher of Daytona City Lifestyle. As a child, I always had the best-looking homework, because I would sneak in her office and use her layout supplies and typesetting equipment to create my reports. She passed in 2020, but I think she would be proud of what we are creating for Daytona.
I would also like to introduce and welcome Melissa Frankel as our new editor.
While it’s always important to shop local and support our area businesses, this month is the perfect time to patronize businesses owned by women in our communities. That’s one of my favorite parts of this role - connecting with and championing the best of the best when it comes to Daytona's women.
They are movers and shakers, builders and makers. They are both seen and unseen. Their silent service blesses those who are under their care. Their attention to detail shows us something about beauty that can’t be seen or understood any other way.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to send a text, make a phone call or get your kids on a video call with the women in your life who deserve recognition. It only takes a minute to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much you love them.
You can pick up copies of Daytona City Lifestyle at both the Daytona and Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce offices.

Daytona Beach has a new local celebrity to celebrate! Holly Burns, recently crowned Mrs. Florida USA 2025, is more than just a titleholder—she’s a successful businesswoman, a passionate advocate, and a driving force behind a cause that Daytona’s community can rally around. Holly is now using her platform to champion Type 1 diabetes awareness and access to life-changing diabetes camps for children.
Holly was selected for the prestigious title of Mrs. Florida USA based on her advocacy work, business acumen, and contributions to the community. She stood out for her relentless dedication to improving people’s lives—whether through her environmental business, her training institute, or her advocacy.
Her selection was not just about beauty and poise, but about influence and impact. As she prepares to represent Florida at the national competition in Omaha, Nebraska, in July 2025, she’s eager to use this platform to make a difference in the lives of others.
Holly’s career is a testament to her passion for science and health. She founded Action Consulting Environmental, a company dedicated to indoor air quality assessments and mold remediation. With a background in the restoration and construction industry, she became deeply fascinated with microorganisms
and their impact on human health. Her company helps homeowners maintain safe and healthy environments, ensuring their living spaces are free from harmful mold and bacteria.
Additionally, Holly runs ACE Training Institute, where she serves as an IICRC approved instructor. Through her training programs, she educates restoration professionals across the country—and even internationally—on the best practices and techniques following IICRC standards for dealing with water and mold damage.
Recently, she and her husband also ventured into marine construction, co-founding B&W Marine Construction of Central Florida, a company specializing in building docks and seawalls in Central Florida. Her impressive business portfolio showcases her ability to excel in diverse fields, but her true passion lies in advocacy.
Holly’s mission is deeply personal. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just five years old, she was told she wouldn’t live past the age of 20. Growing up in financial hardship, she faced significant challenges, including periods of homelessness. Yet, through resilience and determination, she defied the odds.
One of the turning points in her life was attending a diabetes camp, a program that provided her with medical education, stability, and a sense of belonging.
“Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just five years old, she was told she wouldn’t live past the age of 20... Yet, through resilience and determination, she defied the odds.”
“...She’s a successful businesswoman, a passionate advocate, and a driving force behind a cause that Daytona’s community can rally around.”
Thanks to an anonymous donor, she was able to attend camp despite financial difficulties. There, she learned essential diabetes management skills and met other children who shared her experiences.
Now, as Mrs. Florida USA 2025, Holly is on a mission to ensure that children facing similar struggles have the opportunity to attend diabetes camp. Through fundraising efforts, she has already raised enough money to send 18 children to camp, and she’s just getting started.
To further her advocacy, Holly is organizing a special fundraising event on May 3 at REvive Fitness called Fit for a Cure. The event, hosted by local fitness expert Arnold Kolozsvari, will be a fun and educational experience designed to raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes while encouraging healthy living.
Attendees can expect:
• Informative discussions on diabetes management
• Fun fitness activities
• Nutrition tips and healthy shake demonstrations
• Raffle prizes, including a free month of personal training from Arnold Kolozsvari
This event is not just about raising money—it’s about bringing the Daytona Beach community together to support a meaningful cause. With a goal of raising $50,000, Holly aims to send even more children to camp, providing them with the same life-changing experience that helped her thrive.
Holly has set up a GoFundMe campaign, where 100% of donations go directly to Florida Diabetes Camp, an organization affiliated with the University of Florida. These camps, held throughout the state—including one in nearby Lake County—help children develop the skills they need to manage their diabetes while also enjoying fun activities like swimming, water sports, and arts and crafts.
The Daytona Beach community has a unique opportunity to support this initiative by attending the May 3 event, making a donation, or simply spreading awareness. Every contribution helps provide a child with the knowledge, confidence, and support system needed to live a healthy life with Type 1 diabetes.
Holly Burns is a shining example of resilience, determination, and generosity. From overcoming personal hardships to building successful businesses and now using her platform to uplift others, she embodies the spirit of community leadership. As she prepares for the Mrs. USA competition, she hopes to continue inspiring others—not just with her title, but with her mission.
Daytona, let’s rally behind Holly and help her turn her vision into reality. Whether by donating, attending her event, or simply spreading the word, we can all play a part in making a difference in the lives of children with Type 1 diabetes.
Let’s support our Mrs. Florida USA 2025 as she paves the way for a healthier, more compassionate future!

In the ever-evolving world of skincare, fleeting trends come and go, but true innovation withstands the test of time. At Daytona MedSpa , an exclusive haven for beauty and wellness, a groundbreaking treatment is redefining the very essence of skin rejuvenation. NeoGenPSR — an advanced technology born from the cutting-edge laboratories of the UK — is offering a luxurious alternative to traditional facials, chemical peels, and even invasive surgical procedures.
Recently, Mrs. Florida USA 2025, Holly Burns, experienced firsthand what sets NeoGenPSR apart when she visited Daytona MedSpa . There, she had the privilege of meeting Sara and Mayce Chrisman, a mother-daughter duo at the helm of this aesthetic revolution. Together, they’re pioneering a new era of non-invasive treatments that are transforming the beauty landscape in Daytona and beyond.
Unlike conventional treatments that often involve harsh methods and significant downtime, NeoGenPSR takes a more refined approach. This groundbreaking technology harnesses the power of supercharged nitrogen gas, delicately stimulating the skin’s natural regenerative processes. Unlike traditional CO2 lasers that strip away skin layers, Neogen preserves the epidermis as a natural “bandage,” effectively reducing the risk of infection and ensuring a quicker, more luxurious recovery experience.
The results? Stunning, long-term improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and overall skin texture—without the need for invasive surgery. Whether you’re a discerning teen seeking to prevent acne scarring or a sophisticated adult yearning for a non-surgical facelift, NeoGenPSR is emerging as the epitome of skincare innovation.
Sara Chrisman, the visionary owner of Daytona MedSpa , brings nearly a decade of experience in the aesthetics industry. After consulting with medical professionals across the globe, Sara discovered NeoGenPSR and recognized its game-changing potential. She quickly became one of the first in Florida to bring this luxurious treatment to her discerning clientele.
Sara’s daughter, Mayce Chrisman , an accomplished Medical Aesthetician and Managing Partner, is among the first practitioners in the U.S. to be expertly trained in NeoGenPSR Recognized nationally for her skill, Mayce is now ranked among the top providers of this sophisticated treatment in the country. Together, Sara and Mayce offer a level of expertise that ensures every client at Daytona MedSpa receives unparalleled care and results.
• Seborrheic keratosis and other pre-cancerous spots
• Moles and pigmented lesions
• Viral papillomas (warts)
• Loose or sagging skin
• Rosacea (off-label but commonly used)
While results develop gradually, most clients begin to notice significant improvements within 30-60 days. Though there is no medical downtime, there may be a brief period of social downtime as the skin may appear slightly shiny post-treatment. During the healing process, makeup should be avoided to ensure optimal results.
At Daytona MedSpa, NeoGenPSR is more than just a treatment—it's a testament to the future of skincare.
NeoGenPSR is FDA-approved to address a wide range of skin concerns, making it the ideal solution for those seeking a tailored, non-invasive approach to beauty. The treatment is ideal for:
• Fine lines and wrinkles (Facial Rytides)
• Acne scarring and blemishes
• Sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and actinic keratosis
For those preparing for major events, such as weddings or pageants, it’s recommended to schedule your NeoGenPSR session at least a month in advance to allow your skin to fully glow.
At Daytona MedSpa , NeoGenPSR is more than just a treatment—it’s a testament to the future of skincare. Under the unparalleled expertise of Sara and Mayce Chrisman, local residents now have access to one of the most advanced and luxurious skin regeneration therapies available today.
As Holly Burns discovered during her visit, true beauty is not about quick fixes; it’s about creating lasting, transformative results. For those in Daytona and beyond seeking a revolution in aesthetics, NeoGenPSR is the answer — a sophisticated, non-invasive treatment for those who demand the very best in skin care.
Ready for tighter, smoother, and more youthful skin? I had an amazing experience at Daytona Med Spa. Not only is the staff highly trained in their field, but, they are approachable and friendly. Their customer service is beyond reproach, with the owner, Sara texting daily to review the progress of your treatment.
Both Sara and Mayce are well trained, and highly regarded in the area of Neo Gen Plasma treatment, the treatment I received just two weeks ago. The procedure is cutting edge, and I have already noticed improvement in my hyperpigmentation. I'm looking forward to continued progress!!
The entire team at Daytona Med Spa is absolutely wonderful. I recommend the Spa, without reservation. This place is cutting edge!

Imagine your child starting their day exploring the White House and ending it wandering the halls of the Louvre—all without leaving Ormond Beach. Thanks to Academic Oasis and its founder, Jaclyn Veloce, this kind of immersive learning experience is now a reality. Partnering with Optima VR, which boasts the world’s largest content library for education, Academic Oasis is bringing Virtual Reality (VR) technology to its summer programs for students in grades 3-12.
Traditional classroom settings can sometimes feel limiting, especially for students who thrive on hands-on experiences. Academic Oasis is changing that by offering VR-based lessons that take children on virtual field trips to explore historical landmarks, deep-sea ecosystems, and even outer space. This interactive approach to education transforms abstract concepts into tangible experiences, making learning more engaging and memorable.
Academic Oasis isn’t just about technology—it’s about meaningful learning experiences. By incorporating VR, students gain:

An afternoon spent together is priceless with today’s busy schedules. Instead of going out, staying in can provide quaint, quiet one-on-one time for a mother and daughter (or multiple daughters). Finding time on calendars is the hard part, and filling that time is all fun from there. Here are a few favorite ideas for inspiration that may spark excitement for planning those special times together.
Custom DIY charm necklaces and bracelets are trending. Gather a theme idea: birthstones, family initials, travels or even favorite hobbies, and procure charms from your local craft store or online shop. Selecting charms for each other also could be a fun way to bring delight to the crafting occasion. Necklaces and bracelets can be made for each other, or as future gifts for upcoming occasions such as a family wedding, a birthday milestone or an anniversary.
Storytelling makes for the best memories. Structure memory recall by filming or journaling interview-style question-and-answer sessions, cataloging information for future generations. Videos and notes with detailed family adventures are priceless, and we all always wish we had more of them.
Text conversations around kitchen tips or ingredient procurement seem endless. Spend some time together in the kitchen preparing favorite family recipes, sharing Mom’s best tips and tricks. Choosing freezer-friendly meals is a great way to walk away with meals for upcoming busy days. There’s nothing like Mom’s recipes!
Charlene Greer never set out to become a trailblazer in the off-road world—she simply wanted a Jeep. But what started as a personal adventure soon became a mission of empowerment, leadership, and community impact. As the force behind Jeep Beach, the world’s largest Jeep-exclusive event, Greer is proving that success isn’t just about driving forward—it’s about bringing others along for the ride.
Her journey began in 2012 with the purchase of a white Jeep, lovingly named “The Lost Shaker.”
It was more than just a vehicle; it was a symbol of stepping into a new chapter of life. “It was my way of shedding the ‘mom tank’ and embracing something new,” she says. But she never imagined it would lead her to helm an event that now draws Jeep enthusiasts from all 50 states and 34 countries, generating nearly half a billion dollars in economic impact for Daytona Beach.
When Greer took the reins of Jeep Beach in 2017, it was a well-loved local gathering. Under

her leadership, it has grown into an international sensation—one that isn’t just about off-road vehicles, but about building a strong, connected community. “At its core, Jeep Beach is about people,” Greer explains. “The Jeep lifestyle is welcoming, inclusive, and full of camaraderie. But what really drives me is knowing that this event is making a difference.”
That difference is significant. Jeep Beach has raised over $4.8 million for local charities, funding initiatives that support children, veterans, and mental health resources. One cause particularly close to Greer’s heart is the Pace School for Girls, which provides young women with education and mentorship. “I want them to know they belong, that there’s always space for them to succeed,” she says.

“And if a Jeep can help drive that message home, even better.”
Leading in a male-dominated space wasn’t without its challenges. “When I first took over, I was new to the Jeep world and stepping into a field where men had long been at the helm,” Greer recalls. “But they didn’t know who they were dealing with,” she adds with a laugh.
Instead of seeing obstacles, she built a team of experts, surrounding herself with seasoned professionals like automotive veteran Randy Dye and advisor Mike Mills. “I didn’t need to prove myself alone—I needed the right people by my side,” she says. That collaborative approach has not only fueled Jeep Beach’s success but also reinforced her belief that leadership is about lifting others up.
Beyond the high-energy off-road events, Greer remains deeply committed to philanthropy. Through Jeep Beach, she has partnered with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Council on Aging, and Easter Seals, ensuring that the event’s impact extends well beyond the trails. “Seeing the real, tangible difference we’re making—that’s what keeps me going,” she says.
As Jeep Beach continues to grow, so does Greer’s vision. She’s not just steering an event—she’s creating a movement, one that empowers women, strengthens communities, and proves that sometimes, the best roads are the ones you forge yourself.
And for those wondering whether they, too, can take the wheel in their own journey, Greer has one simple message: Shift gears, push forward, and never be afraid to take the road less traveled.

Dr. Jillian Morrison never saw limits—only possibilities. As a plastic surgeon in a male-dominated field, she has forged a career defined by skill, perseverance, and an unshakable belief that women can have it all. But her story isn’t just about medicine—it’s about balancing ambition with family, breaking barriers, and rewriting expectations.
Growing up in Napa Valley, California, Jillian was the second oldest of nine children. She was also the first in her family to graduate from college, a path she paved largely on her own. “My parents were supportive, but they didn’t know how to guide me toward a professional career because they hadn’t taken that route themselves,” she recalls. “So everything was self-driven.”
Initially, Jillian pursued nursing, believing it was a more accessible path. But after volunteering alongside a surgeon, something clicked. “It was the first time I had a mentor who told me, ‘You can do this.’ That encouragement changed everything.”
Yet, choosing medicine meant pushing against cultural expectations. “In my family, being a wife and mother was seen as the ultimate priority for women,” she explains. “There was this unspoken assumption that pursuing a demanding career meant sacrificing family life.”
Then, she met a female plastic surgeon who challenged that narrative. “She had her kids in a stroller during rounds, and I thought, ‘She’s doing it. She has both.’ That was a turning point for me.”
Jillian’s husband, Jamie, has been her steady partner throughout, moving multiple times to support her training. “He never hesitated,” she says. “Our roles have evolved naturally— where I fall short, he excels, and vice versa. It’s always been a team effort.”
Now, as a surgeon, Jillian specializes in procedures ranging from reconstructive
surgeries to body contouring after significant weight loss. But for her, it’s never just about the surgery—it’s about the people. “I want my patients to feel like the best versions of themselves. It’s about restoring confidence, not just appearances.”
One of the most fulfilling aspects of her work is helping individuals who have undergone dramatic weight loss. “When they see their

transformation, it’s not just physical—it’s emotional. They finally see the results of their hard work, no longer hidden by excess skin. That moment of realization is incredibly powerful.”
Despite the demands of her career, Jillian’s greatest source of strength comes from home. With two young children, Graham and Hazel, she has learned the delicate art of balance.
“My family keeps me grounded. In medicine, burnout is real, but coming home to them resets everything. They’re my why.”
Jillian’s journey is one of quiet defiance—of proving that success isn’t an either-or decision between career and family. It’s about carving a path that honors both. In a world that often asks women to choose, she stands as proof that the boldest dreams are within reach, as long as you refuse to accept limits.
In today’s demanding world, wellness retreats offer women a sanctuary for rejuvenation and self-discovery. These transformative experiences provide a curated blend of activities to nourish mind, body, and spirit.
Palmaïa —The House of AïA in Mexico’s Riviera Maya will host the Professional Women’s Retreat in 2025, led by Darrah Brustein, offering a space for likeminded women to unwind and connect. The Femme Retreat, guided by Vanessa Grutma, invites women to reconnect with their intuition and femininity.
Blackberry Mountain in the Smoky Mountains offers Paths of Intention, three- to five-night personal retreats designed to process specific life chapters and begin anew.
Canyon Ranch Lenox in Massachusetts presents the M/ Power Program for women navigating menopause and perimenopause. This three-night retreat combines traditional and alternative medicine with mental health and spirituality.

Joali, being in the Maldives, offers a Women’s Discovery Programme that addresses unique changes in women’s bodies throughout life. The program focuses on hormone health, mental well-being, and youthfulness, intertwining ancient wisdom with modern therapies.
These retreats are particularly impactful during pivotal life moments, providing tools for long-term well-being through personalized care, community support, and immersive experiences. Each retreat invites women to embark on a unique transformation journey, promising renewal, inspiration, and a fresh perspective on life.
As you consider your next chapter, remember that the path to self-discovery may begin with a wellness retreat tailored to your needs and aspirations.
