We must thank the folks at Passerella, a gorgeous restaurant at the Towne Lake Boardwalk for allowing us to do the photo shoot. The eatery is part of Gr8 Plate Hospitality, a Houston-based family-run restaurant and hospital ity company, which also includes The Union Kitchen and Jax Grill. If you haven’t been to Passerella, you absolutely must go! The restaurant offers a seafood-forward Italian menu, specialty drinks, and beautiful views that combine to offer an elevated dining experience.
Another restaurant that opened this summer at the Boardwalk is Sweetgreen, a trendy, casual café with a plant-forward menu that reimag ines fast food. Look for their ad on page 38 to get a $5 credit!

Kathy and James have been serving Cypress students and fam ilies as Education Consultants, since opening Class 101 in 2019. Both owners from the start, Kathy took the role of successfully running and growing the business. By September 2021 they had experienced such extensive growth that James decided to leave his job in corporate America and join Kathy full-time.
When Kathy Jones realized her calling in life was to work with teenagers, she knew the best way she could do that, would be throughKathy,education.andherhusband James, both have backgrounds in cor porate America. Kathy comes from sales and business develop ment and James was in finance and treasury. Students, typically starting in 9th or 10th grade, meet regularly with Kathy or James.
The students are shown how to form detailed and achievable college plans and navigate through majors and possi ble careers. This includes guiding them through essay-writing and how to build a resume that strongly represents their accolades. Advice and expertise also extend to maneuvering through financial or merit-based scholarship applications as well as SAT/ACT/PSAT preparation.
At Class 101 Kathy and James are inspir ing teens every step of the way through accountability and an individualized approach. In the first appointment with a student, one hour is taken to allow time to get to know the teen, find out what kind of colleges they’re seeking, what their interests are, as well as review tran scripts and course selections. Each stu dent takes a DISC behavioral analysis and is encouraged to choose a field that truly interests them. They are also encouraged to take that passion and find a company within their industry of choice to learn from and connect with.

“We provide data-driven consulting and help students present the best versions of themselves,” says Kathy. “Hopefully, some life lessons get taught along the way, like setting and keeping an appointment, speaking to an adult, prioritizing time, and working toward a long-term goal.”
As Education Consultants, they make what can be a daunting and overwhelming process become enjoyable and attainable through consistency, accountability, and encouragement. They are intentional about how they approach goal-setting with their students. They know how important it is to convey realistic expec tations. By ensuring the goals are in line with a school-life balance to match the teen's aspirations for the future, while also meeting their needs throughout the high school years. They discuss with each student what sacrifices would need to be made to achieve their goals—making their goals more attainable!

Members spend monthly meetings completing mini-ser vices projects such as sewing or gathering food donations.
One of the group’s longest-running service projects is sew ing heart-shaped pillows for hospital patients. The ladies began crafting the pillows after a member was diagnosed with breast cancer about 15 years ago. Some women slice the fabric while others stuff the pillows and those who have sewing machines stitch things together. The finished pil lows are then delivered to the HCA North Cypress campus or to elderly nursing home residents.
“It always makes you feel better when you’re doing some thing for someone else,” Sharon says. “And I think that’s the heart of the women in the club.” Cy-Fair-Womens-Club.Portalbuzz.com
One of the group’s most notable service projects is this month’s Shop ‘til You Drop craft fair hosted on Sept. 10 at the Berry Center. Established in the late 90s, the colossal craft exhibit regularly draws more than 5,500 visitors for a handmade holiday shopping experience that’s hard to beat. The event and parking are completely free, and shoppers can peruse more than 250 vendors selling every thing from handmade soap to elegant jewelry. Shop ‘til You Drop is the club’s primary fundraiser, with proceeds going to fund dozens of local scholarships and non-profit initiatives. Since 2011, CWC has awarded about $307,000 in scholarships and about $247,000 to area non-profits.

The CWC’s mission is to serve the community, but also provide a place where women can create lasting friendships.
“The Cy-Fair Women’s Club does so much good in our community,” says Tammie Jeffers, Mission of Yahweh’s development director. “It’s such a rewarding thing to be awarded a grant from them.”
“Cypress is a wonderful community,” says Sharon James, CWC president. “The club is an opportunity for ladies to get together, serve our community and then serve each other too.”
Each year, CFWC members vote to fund a charity through their Adopt a Cause initiative. This year’s recipient was The Mission of Yahweh, a private non-profit shelter for abused women and children. The home was awarded $10,000 to purchase a commercial ice machine for the cafeteria and outfit the children’s computer lab with new computers.
They’re perhaps most known for their bright pink shirts and massive annual craft show, but the ladies of the Cy-Fair Women’s Club are about so much more. The group, celebrating their 40th anniversary, began in 1984 as the Copperfield Women’s Club to promote civic causes. Since then they’ve grown into a thriving non-profit with mem bers from all over Cypress who have fundraised thousands of dollars to help every aspect of the community. Sweetgreen has a leg acy of collaborating with regional farms to source ingredients by working through local distributors that dates back to the founding of the company. Today, they work with hundreds of farms across the country to purchase truly fresh, farm-to-table ingredients including proteins, grains and produce. Restaurant guests can see evidence of this when they walk in the doors to view the hand-written names of farms and their corresponding ingredients on the in-store chalkboard.

When three college students living in Washington DC got burned out on the usual grease-laden fast food options that offered convenience but no nutri tional value, they decided to do something about it. In 2007, Jonathan Neman, Nathaniel Ru, and Nicholas Jammet opened Sweetgreen in an effort to offer people a healthier but still convenient way to eat. Five years ago, we were tasked to find a place to shoot our firstever September Style issue. We chose the beautiful Towne Lake Boardwalk and the resulting photos were stunning. This year we decided to go back to the Boardwalk and were invited to shoot at the recently opened Passerella Ristorante & Wine Bar. While styles have changed, the pictures were equally as gorgeous.

The Passerella décor boasts bright, bold colors amid references to familiar high-end Italian brands like Gucci and Masserati, while white table linens and seasonal flowers combine to give the restaurant an upscale, yet comfortable ambiance. The view from the windows of the lake and beach is serene, and the light streaming through the windows offered the natural light photographers love.
