The team redesigned the “chin” of the dispenser where the tape blade is placed, the blade itself and created tabs that help astronauts replace the tape when it runs out. More than 30 projects that Cy-Woods students have worked on in previous years are currently being used on the ISS, including the tape dispenser. Cy-Woods students are also currently working on two additional projects that are scheduled to be utilized on the ISS in November.

WHAT BEGAN AS FATHER-AND-SON COOKING LESSONS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, BECAME AN ONLINE SENSATION KNOWN AS PHIL’S TABLE, A HOME COOKING SHOW FEATURING PHIL ALEXANDER AND HIS SON ’LIL PHIL, AS THE ADORABLE HOST. The two—both cheery, food-loving extroverts—teach simple recipes in a way that’s wholesome and fun. “I want to be a chef,” says ’Lil Phil. “My Dad teaches me and gives me recipes to try every day.” It all started last Father’s Day after 7-year-old ‘Lil Phil bought a charcoal grill with his own money. Big Phil, a trained cook and restaurant owner, started posting online photos and videos of the two cooking together. In the videos, Big Phil gives step-by-step instructions while ‘Lil Phil follows along and whips up everything from pancakes to pork ribs. It was a way for ‘Lil Phil to connect with others online during quarantine while learning life lessons from dad. “There are so many teachable moments you can have in the kitchen,” says Big Phil. “Everything from problem-solving to mathematics, science and even learning how to have patience.”

PHIL’S TABLE TEACHES WHOLESOME LIFE LESSONS IN THE KITCHEN

Their videos quickly drew thousands of viewers and caught the attention of The Kelly Clarkson Show. In December, the Phils appeared on a nationally-televised segment showing how to cook chocolate waffles. These days, the Phils post regular videos and are cooking up plans for a pop-up burger shop. As for parents looking to bond with the kiddos in the kitchen, Big Phil gives this advice: cook with patience and love. “As a dad, your child is looking at you to see how you react,” Big Phil says. “If you show patience and love and know that the key is to have fun, you’re going to have a much better experience.”

INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a large baking dish and set aside. Combine shredded cheeses in a large bowl. Set aside. Cook pasta al dente. Salt your water. Drain, and place in a large bowl. Set aside to cool while preparing cheese sauce. Melt butter in a deep saucepan. Whisk in flour over medium heat and continue whisking for about one minute until bubbly and lightly golden. Gradually whisk in the milk and cream until smooth. Continue whisking until it starts to bubble again. Cook for three minutes. Whisk in garlic powder, powdered mustard, white pepper, and salt. Add 3 cups of shredded cheese and whisk until smooth. Add another 2 cups of shredded cheese and continue whisking until thick, creamy, and smooth. Combine pasta with cheese sauce until pasta is fully covered. Pour half of the mac and cheese into the prepared baking dish. Top with the last 2 cups of cheese and then the remaining mac and cheese. In a small bowl, combine the fontina cheese, panko crumbs, melted butter and paprika. Sprinkle over the top and bake until bubbly and golden brown, about 30 minutes. Serve immediately. Healthy Alternative: Swap the pasta for 2 lbs of steamed cauliflower for a lower carb option.

OW DID YOU GET INTO THE ROOFING INDUSTRY?

One of my best friend’s sons owned a roofing company and I went

to work for him. Then I came to Telge Roofing and bought it out. YOU’VE HAD SEVERAL PROFESSIONS IN YOUR LIFE INCLUDING WORKING ON THE RAILROAD AND AS A CAR SALESMAN. HOW DOES THAT INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU DO BUSINESS AT TELGE ROOFING? I kinda got my hustle from the car business. It’s a lot of going to meet people, working late nights and early mornings, meeting adjusters and getting 100 percent satisfaction for my customers.

A FEW GOOD GUYS (CONTINUED)

DAVID MILLS WHY DID YOU CREATE THE KAILEE MILLS FOUNDATION? After the devastating loss of our 16-year-old daughter in a car crash, we understood how easily preventable her tragedy would have been had she just been wearing a seat belt. Car crashes are the leading cause of death in this country for people ages 1-54, and teens are three times more likely to die in a crash than any other age group. Knowing how important this is, we decided that if we could save a life and spare another family from going through what we went through by simply raising awareness and getting more people to buckle up, it would be well worth the effort. TELL US MORE ABOUT KAILEE’S STORY. Kailee was such an amazing young lady. She had a huge smile and an even bigger heart. Her life was cut short on October 28, 2017. She left

our home with three other teenagers and was riding in the backseat, only traveling a mile to a friend’s house. When they got a few blocks away from home, she removed her seat belt to slide over in the backseat to take a selfie. Seconds after the photo was taken, the driver lost control and slid into a culvert, sending the car airborne and rolling. Kailee was ejected and died instantly while her three friends all walked away with no real injuries. We know that if Kailee had her seat belt on she would still be here today.

LIEUTENANT K YL E G O B L E WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT FIREFIGHTING? The years of combined training and experience recently came to a pinnacle moment. My crew and I discovered two victims unconscious inside an active house fire. Relying on our training, we immediately started rescue operations with confidence and efficiency. The combined efforts of fire crews and EMS personnel saved those two victims and allowed them to see another day. WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED? The most important advice given to me, which can be applied to fire fighting and daily life, is to never stop learning and striving to become more efficient and skillful. You will never know everything, but that is why it is essential to have team of people who have your back. WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT LIVING IN CYPRESS? While working with Cy-Fair you get to meet and see the unique Cypress community from a different perspective. You get the privilege

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THE PRO GOLFER’S FITNESS JOURNEY

SCOTT

STALLINGS’

WORKOUT ARTICLE CITY LIFESTYLE

SCOTT STALLINGS DISCOVERED HIS INTEREST IN GOLF AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 3. But it was the “aha moment” for his love of the game that came in 1997 when Tiger Woods won the Masters and would forever change the entire landscape of the industry, as well as what Stallings would aspire to achieve in his future professional endeavors. Little did he know at the time, however, not just how successful he would become, but also how an unforeseen health compromise would also rock his world, and his cross training, for the better. He was a seven-time tournament winner and was an All-American while attending Tennessee Tech, and he has won on the PGA Tour three times as a professional golfer. Flash forward to the year 2016: It became a life-changing year he never would have anticipated; one filled with strife as he learned he had been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and acute adrenal fatigue. It was a result of some unhealthy nutritional habits, both of which affected his ability to continue effectively as a professional athlete. With the guidance of doctors, surgeons, and his good friend Rich Froning, a four-time Crossfit champion, Scott developed a workout to trim 60 pounds, boasting 10% body fat, revising his daily eating habits, and sleeping healthily through the night. Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. Luckily for Scott, he didn’t have an overwhelming, crazy life overhaul. Instead, he was able to find one small thing, delivering simple systematic changes in his workout that led to his improvement in fitness and quality of life. “You only get one body,” he says. “Golf is a grind, but don’t let physicality get in the way of your game,” Scott says.
