CFISD FOOTBALL SEASON SCHEDULE Cypress-Fairbanks ISD new varsity football schedule for the 2018 season includes two additional CFISD teams and multiple non-district games for the first time in more than a decade.

Bridgeland High School, which opened in 2017, and Cypress Park High School, which opened the year before, will field varsity football teams for the first time in 2018 and join CFISD’s other 10 comprehensive high schools.

DENNIS FARRIS, THE OWNER AND TAILOR-IN-CHIEF OF TRENDS CUSTOM FIT, SAYS THERE’S NO BETTER TIME TO BE INVOLVED WITH MEN’S FASHION THAN NOW. “The main problem with men is that they were never introduced to made-to-measure,” Dennis says. “That’s changing. What appeals to many of our customers is a wide variety of fabric and customization, and now you’re finding more and more men who appreciate the opportunity to influence the looks of their suits and sports jackets.”

The sea change is part of the reason that Dennis, who used to work as a jazz musician, opened up his tailor business in April. He says the response has been phenomenal. Men’s fashion has become a serious business, and as men begin to discover the difference a well-fitted suit can make in their appearance, social lives and professional careers, they’ve begun to call on Dennis. And calling is all they have to do, too, because Dennis makes house calls.

Dennis says his company comes to a client’s home or office and does a complimentary consultation to make sure all the measurements and details are perfect before he gets to work.

“When you’re working with these types of people, it gets very serious,” he says. “We’ve looked at this business as not only a business, but also as a family, and we’re creating relationships. We really get into the details of taking care of our clients, and customer service is paramount. We come to their location— either home or office—and they barely even have to get up. They’re not judged; we’re truly working with them and meeting their needs.”

And Cypress—along with the Houston area in general—is a great place to do it, too, Dennis adds. With all the high-powered healthcare, tech and energy industries springing up every day, there’s no shortage of businessmen in need of a solid look.

But even though the hipness surrounding the word might have faded a bit, the clothes and accessories offered at her Cypressbased boutique—which she started out of her garage, by the way—are still as stylish as ever. Forget about rhinestones and bejeweled denim, Tracie says; Anything Bling offers a classic shopping experience for the high-end consumer.

“It sounds like a jewelry store, like where you might buy a T-shirt with fake diamonds on it, but it’s not that at all,” she says. “We do high fashion, great service and a real boutique experience. It’s anything but bling, honestly.”

With three stores currently open for business, Tracie says that unlike the word itself, Anything Bling the store isn’t going anywhere.

“As long as you like style and high fashion, we have something for you,” she says.

Shana spoke with Cypress Lifestyle about a few upcoming trends and changes in the window-covering industry that people in the market for highend, automated blinds might want to be aware of as they shop around.

AUTOMATION Automated and mechanized window coverings are the way of the future, Shana says, and anyone looking to stay up-to-date with window coverings needs to be aware of what’s around the corner. With automated blinds, which are quickly becoming connected to other remote-controlled household appliances like lights and thermostats, homeowners can use an app on their smartphone to not only control if their blinds are

CORDLESS Another blind trend that’s going to be taking over the window-covering world is cord cutting, Shana says. Next year, federal law is going to require that all blinds come without cords for safety reasons, and manufacturers are getting creative with how they’ll deal with the change. Cords on blinds can cause children and pets to choke—not to mention their tendency to break—and Shana says that blinds you can close by hand, with an aforementioned app or even a mechanized wand that’s attached to the window are a few workarounds that consumers can expect to see in the coming years. Who needs cords anyway, Shana asks—they just make it difficult to close blinds in difficult-to-reach and high places, and an
