LIFESTYLE LETTER

Expressing Our Personal Style One of the most fun ways we get to share our personality with the world is through our own personal style. Our clothing, homes, and cars are all ways we express our personal style and collectively, these elements define our lifestyle. This month, we’re excited to highlight the people and businesses of the CSRA who can help us express our personal style. Honeybee’s Shead is a fun, pop-up boutique perfect for finding just the right clothing and accessories to create a signature look. Owner Melanie Shead shares why this is her passion and what customers can expect when they stop by and shop. How we decorate and furnish our homes says so much about what makes us happy and comfortable. Becky McClurkin of Casia Home Interior Design loves helping clients identify which styles fit their personality best and create spaces they love to return to over and over again. An eye-catching and unique way to add greenery to spaces is using Growboards by Leafspace Designs. Growboards take plants vertical, making these all-natural boards perfect for wall décor. Carrie Turner tells us where we can find them and how to join her for a workshop to make our own. Just because something requires concrete doesn’t mean that it can’t be beautiful. Titan Concrete Coatings offers clients a way to bring concrete to life, making it aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. With an almost endless combination of color choices, there is something for every style and personality. Sometimes style is just as much about what you don’t like as what you do like. I think we can all agree that bugs and unwanted pests do not meet the criteria for a beautiful home. Thankfully, Peachtree Pest Control provides innovative and ecofriendly options for keeping our homes and businesses beautiful and pest-free. Thanks for taking the time to check out this month’s issue of CSRA City Lifestyle! We’ll see you around town!

on Wheels How Honeybee’s Shead went from an old camper to a beloved family business.

What started with an old camper on Facebook Marketplace has become a blessing greater than Melanie Shead could have imagined. Melanie has always been a people person with a passion for encouraging women. For years, she taught fitness classes and that was one of many ways God used her to uplift the women around her. However, she always had a dream of opening a business that could bring joy to women through a fun, girly space. One day, she thought about opening a mobile boutique, which was just the idea she needed to fulfill her lifelong dream. “I happened to be scrolling through Facebook marketplace and found a camper,” Melanie shares. “Our family transformed the camper into a boutique on wheels.” From there, Honeybee’s Shead was born. Melanie’s mom came up with the idea to name the new mobile glamper boutique “Miss Honey” and it fit perfectly. Shortly after Honeybee’s Shead was created, Melanie and Miss Honey started going to Evans Market. Soon, Melanie was taking Miss Honey and doing popups, visiting schools for teacher appreciation days, and going to events for ladies across the CSRA. Honeybee’s Shead has also gained a VIP group on Facebook that has become a community of women bonding over Miss Honey and the unique boutique experience she offers.

Not only has Miss Honey brought the community together but has been a bonding experience for the Shead family as they work together on the business. “It’s been such a great thing for our family. I couldn’t do it without my husband, Roger, and daughter, Maddie,” Melanie shares. “Roger pulls Miss Honey to all the events and Maddie helps me set up, manages the online side of Honeybee’s Shead, and gives me ideas for clothing to buy.” Melanie’s sons also encourage her, and her parents are always available to be a sounding board. Melanie recognizes how God has blessed her family through the business and how it’s truly a family affair that has been used to touch many lives. For Melanie and her family, having a mobile boutique is about much more than just selling clothes. “Honeybee’s Shead is about coming as you are and feeling welcomed and valued,” she says. “I never thought having a camper could reach so many people, but a lot of our customers have become like family to us.” Melanie has the unique opportunity to get to know the styles of her regular customers and cater to their needs, encouraging and serving them in that way. “When I shop, I have so many different women in mind and I’ll see something and know that it’s their thing,” she says. “It’s been so neat.” Melanie serves her customers with the hope that every woman who comes into Honeybee’s Shead leaves feeling more uplifted and confident than when she arrived. Melanie is also passionate about having clothing in her mobile boutique that appeals to different ages, sizes, and styles. “We carry a variety,” she explains. “Anything from church dresses to casual, comfortable clothes to sports and boho styles.” Melanie loves denim, patchwork, vibrant colors, and 1970s styles, so she enjoys incorporating those into her selection as well. She picks out clothes based on quality and comfort while keeping everything adorable and affordable for customers. This month, four years after Honeybee’s Shead started, Melanie is opening Honeybee’s Haven inside Trendz Salon—a companion shop to Honeybee’s Shead

that stays in one place and allows Melanie to connect in new ways with her customers. “One of my greatest passions is building relationships,” she shares. “Honeybee’s Haven will give me a place to spend more intentional time with women throughout the week.” While the mobile boutique will still be very present in the community, Melanie is excited for this new extension of what she loves so much. “My prayer is that it becomes more than a boutique,” she explains, “but that it will be a warm, welcoming space where women can enjoy all that both Trendz and Honeybee’s Haven have to offer.” Whether women visit the mobile boutique or the Haven in Trendz, Melanie’s hope remains the same: “If someone leaves Honeybee’s feeling a little more beautiful, encouraged, and knowing they have a friend in me, we’ve accomplished much more than selling an outfit.” Follow along on Facebook and Instagram, @ HoneybeesShead, and www.HoneybeesShead.com to stay updated on events, popups, and Honeybee’s Haven.

hen it comes time to furnish and decW orate a home or business, few people include insects, pests, and rodents as part of the design plan. In fact, most people don’t think of them at all. Which is why the team at Peachtree Pest Control is ready to ensure these unwanted guests do not disrupt the flow of a beautiful design concept. “We would agree that infestations are never in style,” says Shelby Pattison, Vice President for Business Operations at Peachtree Pest Control. “We believe that prevention is key. You always want to make sure you’re staying a step ahead of things and not waiting until there is a problem to solve.”

Peachtree Pest Control offers residential and commercial pest control, mosquito reduction, termite protection, rodent control, and wildlife exclusion. They also provide options to make structures less appealing to pests. “If someone has moisture issues in crawl spaces, we can encapsulate it and do some remediation there,” explains Shelby. “We also offer insulation services with a covered insulation that helps with both pest control and energy efficiency.”

Bringing in professionals to do the job has numerous benefits, including saving time and providing access to the best and newest products and techniques available in the industry. “Our service professionals go through a lot of training to make sure they are well-equipped to handle each unique situation,” says Shelby. “We also guarantee our work. So if a customer is having problems in between services or they are seeing any kind of issues, they can call us and we will come back and work until we fix the problem.”

One innovative approach Peachtree uses is the YardSMART mosquito management program. “Some pest control or mosquito companies use misters to treat shrubbery and foliage around somebody’s home,” explains Shelby. “The mosquito reduction devices we use recreate an ideal habitat for mosquitoes but control the population.” This is done using mosquito management stations that interrupt the maturation cycle of mosquito larvae, preventing them from

developing into adults and reducing future mosquito populations. Using the Anticimex SMART Pest Control solution is another way Peachtree stays on the cutting edge of pest control technology. “We are moving away from using unsightly rodent boxes with rodenticides in them and using the SMART detection system,” says Shelby. “The system uses infrared sensors to alert us of rodent activity so that we can get ahead of an infestation before it occurs.” These innovative systems and eco-friendly approaches all focus on addressing the source of the problem and not simply treating what you see on the surface. “We use Integrated Pest Management which relies on doing a thorough inspection of the property, knowing the biology of insects and understanding where they’re coming from, and identifying the root cause instead of putting unnecessary chemical at somebody’s home,” she says. “But the most important part of what we do is building a relationship with our customers. Anybody can go out, put product down, and hope for the best, but we want to work together

to find the source of issues. So if there are tree branches touching a home and it’s the source of a pest problem, having the customer’s cooperation to be able to remedy things on their end that might not be under our realm is crucial to having success with pest control.” This year, Peachtree Pest Control is celebrating its 50th anniversary of serving and partnering with customers. “We are giving back to the community that has supported us and helped us grow over the last half century with a program we call ‘50 for 50’,” shares Shelby. “We’re doing fifty acts of community service in the various communities we serve through sponsorship of youth sports, conducting clothing and food drives, and building bikes for underprivileged children – to name a few. We’ve even adopted a honeybee hive at a farm in Waynesboro, and we are excited to watch the Peachtree hive grow.” To find out more about Peachtree Pest Control’s services and upcoming events during the 50th Anniversary celebration, visit www.peachtreepestcontrol.com, call 706-860-0116, and follow Peachtree Pest Control on social media.

Including plants in any space revitalizes the area, bringing fresh energy and added aesthetic appeal. Carrie Turner of Leafspace Designs makes bringing greenery into areas easy, fun, and stress-free. “Nature is extremely therapeutic. People love having plants in their space, but a lot of people feel like they have a brown thumb. They want green in their space but they’re not sure they can take care of it and be successful,” explains Carrie. “That’s where we come in; we bring nature to your space. Whether that is indoors or outdoors, we can help create the perfect space for you.” Leafspace Designs creates, installs, and maintains garden spaces outside in the ground, in porch containers, or any outdoor living area. Indoor options include Growboards and Terrariums where greenery can be enjoyed and cared for easily. Growboards, which add greenery in a uniquely vertical way, are one of the most popular indoor plant creations by Leafspace Designs. So those who want a green space but don’t necessarily want to take care of it, or they think they are going to kill it, can choose the preserved option.” Carrie has developed techniques and kits to ensure that creating Growboards is a fun and fulfilling activity. Whether customers build the boards during a workshop or order the kits online to do on their own, Carrie provides patterns and simple, but detailed, instructions to ensure each person creates a beautiful board. “IF YOUR HOUSE FEELS LIKE YOU, THEN YOU FEEL EMBRACED BY YOUR HOME.”

Becky McClurkin loves creating beautiful spaces. As owner of Casia Home Interior Design, she channels that creativity by providing residential interior design and decorating services for bedrooms, living, and dining spaces as well as kitchens and bathrooms. One of the aspects of interior design that excites Becky most is the seemingly endless sources of inspiration and styles to integrate into a design plan. “I love so many styles and there are very few that I can’t find something that I like about it, which really helps me to connect with my clients,” shares Becky. “Although there are some people who like one style only, most people are a mixture of styles even if they don’t realize it.” For clients who may not know exactly their style preferences, Becky starts them off with a Look Book for inspiration. “It has about thirty pages of pictures of different styles of rooms that they can go through and circle things they like whether that is a lamp, rug, or the whole picture,” she says. “It’s one of my keys to really starting to dig into the psyche of the client and get to know their design style.” CONTINUED >

"The process of interior design can be stressful but I'm here to reduce that stress and hold the client's hand throughout the process."

Using that information, Becky develops an initial mood board that helps the project take shape, followed by a more detailed concept board and design plans. She guides clients through decisions, purchases, and checks in during construction to ensure everything is going as planned. “The process of interior design can be stressful but I’m here to reduce that stress, to hold the client’s hand throughout the process, answer their questions and do my best to make sure they know they’re not alone in choosing their items and making their home feel elevated,” she explains. When creating a design plan, Becky has three primary goals. “I can make it beautiful and timeless in a way that you’re not looking back in ten years and questioning a decision,” she shares. “I also want it to be functional so that it serves your needs.” Becky thrives on connecting with clients through the creative process. “There are moments when the client and I are really in

sync,” says Becky. “I’m feeding them ideas and they’re feeding me ideas and we can just go through room after room after room and create these stunning designs. It’s really amazing and drives my passion.” For Becky, the most rewarding aspect of the creative process is seeing a design seamlessly come to life and having her clients feel the tranquility that comes with being in a space created just for them. “If your house feels like you, then you feel embraced by your home,” says Becky. “Your space can be everything you want it to be while still being stylish and having that elevated feel that comes with professional interior design.” Explore a gallery of design work and services offered through Casia Home Interior Design by visiting casiahome.com and following Casia Home Interior Design on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Elevating plain concrete into a custom, character-f illed space with Titan Concrete Coatings ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

LOCA LLY SOU R CE D | HOME SE RVICE S

Concrete serves an important, functional role in homes and businesses. However, it often lacks aesthetic appeal and begins to deteriorate with long term use. Titan Concrete Coatings addresses both these issues with customizable, specialized coatings that protect and elevate concrete from ordinary to exceptional.

"Clients love the fact that we can help them express their personality while adding beauty and value to their space." Whether it is a driveway, pool deck, shop floor, or patio, large expanses of plain concrete can feel utilitarian and drab. “It is gray, monochromatic, and just plain boring,” says Robert Fisher, Chief Financial Officer of Titan Concrete Coatings. “Clients love the fact that we can help them express their personality while adding beauty and value to their space.” The epoxy and resinous coatings from Titan Concrete Coatings can be customized for color, texture, style, and designed to accommodate the purpose and usage unique to each space. “Patios, porches, pool decks, garages, and driveways all have different usage,” explains Robert. “So the first thing we identify is the usage of the area and any problem we are trying to solve. If an area has cracked concrete,

the coating mends the cracks to create a smooth, homogeneous surface. On a pool deck, the problem is that you are walking on hot concrete. Our process and products will cool that surface down while adding aesthetic appeal.” When it comes to colors and designs, the coatings can be as unique and colorful as the home or business owner wants and can include company, school, or sports team logos as well as custom colors. “One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is people want to do something to modify their space and add their personality to it,” says Robert. “If you want your space to sport your favorite team’s colors, we can do that. If it is a pool deck, we can come up with a custom color based on the color of the pool lining and bricks. CONTINUED >

If we end up creating a completely new color, we name it after our client.” Adjusting the color and size of the flakes in the epoxy or polyaspartic changes its appearance, but some clients want something completely different. “We had a client who built a pole barn home and instead of using flakes in the epoxy, he wanted a marble-looking finish to the surface,” shares Robert. “We were able to get into the building before it was furnished and create that marble look for him throughout the entire home.” Encapsulating a logo is especially helpful for businesses and schools who want to add a special touch to their offices and buildings. “For Hyatt House in downtown Augusta, we put their logo under the clear coat,” explains Director of Operations Quentin Fisher. “It is not like a sticker on top that could peel, get muddy, or fall apart. This is embedded in the coating and it is something that distinguishes them from other places.” Concrete coatings work well in large commercial and industrial spaces as well. Quentin says working at the Helios Equine Performance & Rehabilitation Center is one of his favorite projects. “It is a large space, something around 10,000 square feet, and what made it unique was that we got to design something not really meant for humans,” he explains. “The space is used for horse rehabilitation, so we had to meet certain criteria for the horses. It was really fun to go and work on that space.” In addition to creating a surface that best fits the client’s needs, the team at Titan Concrete Coatings willingly works to ensure compliance with building codes and neighborhood HOA guidelines. They also guarantee to deliver a high-quality product. “No one can touch our quality,” says Robert. “Cost is what you pay, value is what you get. If you call us, we will pick

If you have an issue, we will come back and fix it.” Titan Concrete Coatings is a Christian based organization with a close-knit family atmosphere that permeates the business. Robert serves as Chief Financial Officer alongside his wife, Debbie, who is the Chief Executive Officer. Their son, Quentin, serves as the Director of Operations with several additional family members serving in different roles. “We are so family-oriented,” shares Quentin. “Where that really comes into focus is that we treat our clients like family, partly because we don’t know any other

From our clients to installers to family members who work with us, we make sure everyone is taken care of just like family.” Rooted in the CSRA, Titan Concrete Coatings is a family owned and operated business that serves residential, commercial, and industrial clients.
