Primrose School's Thanksgiving Food Drive Blesses Local Families in Need Families at Primrose School of NE Flower Mound and Primrose School of Old Orchard joined forces to collect and donate nearly 1,400 food items to Lewisville Christian Community Action (CCA) for their Thanksgiving Food Drive. CCA provided 1,600 Thanksgiving meals to Denton County families in need. Choose a color palette. “I like to stick with neutral paint colors as a jumping off point. Then bring in colors through artwork, accessories, window treatments and rugs,” Laura says.

Create balance. “Like so many other things in life, design is all about finding balance,” Laura says. “Create a balance between textiles, wood finishes, stone, colors, natural elements, finishes and accessories.”

Incorporate art. “Use oversized artwork as a backdrop for those long zoom calls. It will not only look beautiful, but professional as well,” Laura says. “We are big fans of neutral, abstract landscape artwork, especially pieces that have a calming aesthetic to them.”

Make it personal. “Do not forget to include personal touches here and there – family photos, favorite books, etc. They serve as little reminders of the things that bring you joy,” she says.

Follow Laura’s tips below to style perfectly balanced bookshelves.

+ Start with a clean slate. Begin by emptying everything off of your shelves so that you have a fresh look at them.

Consider your room and color palette. Is the cabinetry backing dark, light, or open?

This should affect how you select you styling elements … If the cabinetry is dark, you want to select lighter pieces in order to obtain that contrast. Are you wanting to keep it neutral or add bold colors and patterns to your decor? You can organize your items by category prior to placing them on your shelves. Overall, you want to keep a cohesive look throughout the shelves. + Gather varied items. Only use items that you love. You want these things to make you happy when you look at them.

I personally like to use baskets, greenery, geometric objects, pottery/vases, books, bookends, jars, artwork, frames, candles and wood trays. I also love incorporating personal items that have a unique value and interest to you. For example, nick-knacks, or souvenirs from past travels, personal photos of a memorable occasion, or collectibles that mean something special to your family. + Ground your shelves. I usually start by placing a set of large baskets or trays on the bottom shelf. This really helps it feel more substantial, weighted, and connected at the base of your shelves. + Style from largest to smallest. The next step is incorporating the large items first and spreading them out over your shelves so they are not right next to each other. Then, fill in the remaining shelves with the smaller items. Here's one of our best tricks: if it feels like something is missing, add some greenery (faux works too!). + Create that necessary depth. You can do this through the use of artwork or trays stacked against the back wall.

Make sure items that are similar to each other are not right next to one another. It is all about balance.

INSTRUCTIONS Combine ingredients in shaker with ice and shake until cold. Strain into glass and top off with club soda. Garnish with fresh lavender.

(Optional: add a bit of blue food coloring give it a beautiful hue.

INSTRUCTIONS Pour the peach juice over ice in a highball glass. Fill with soda.

Slowly pour the grenadine into the drink - it will sink to the bottom and gradually rise, integrating into the drink.

+ 2 Tbsp and 1-3/4 teaspoons

+ 1 cup water + 1/4 cup sugar (or sugar substitute like Stevia) + 1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger

crushed ice + 2 Tbsp orange juice + 1/4 cup club soda + 1 slice orange (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS Bring blueberries, water, sugar and ginger to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, crushing the blueberries occasionally with a masher.

Remove from heat and let cool, about 10 minutes. Pass the mixture through a food mill or fine mesh sieve to remove the skins of the blueberries. Set aside 1/4 cup syrup and store the remainder in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Place crushed ice in a glass. Add reserved blueberry-ginger syrup.

+ Fresh rosemary sprigs

+ 3-4 fresh rosemary sprigs

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ROSEMARY SYRUP: Put water and sugar in a small pot over medium-high heat.

Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, until sugar is fully dissolved.

Remove from heat and add rosemary sprigs.

Cover pot and allow syrup to steep for about 30 minutes, until it is room temperature.

FOR THE ROSEMARY GRAPEFRUIT MOCKTAIL: Combine rosemary syrup, grapefruit juice and club soda in a pitcher, or in individual cups and serve immediately over ice.

Garnish glasses with fresh rosemary sprigs and a slice of grapefruit if desired.

Leaders like you become catalysts for change when they do three things: pick a problem to address, invite others to join them, and do what they can where they are.

1. Pick a Problem to Address A leader can never become a catalyst until he or she first takes ownership of the problem they wish to solve. You cannot rally people to a cause that you aren’t willing to own, especially these days; people know when a leader is being half-hearted, and they don’t respect it. When you pick a problem to solve or a cause to rally around, you must have conviction in order to succeed.

Over the years, I’ve learned that whenever I feel a sense of conviction about an issue, I need to start moving in the direction I believe I should go, even if I’m uncertain. Action creates ownership, and ownership creates credibility with people. And you need that credibility because transformation cannot be done by one person alone—we all need people to join us on the journey.

2. Invite Others to Join You When you’ve settled on the problem you want to tackle you should immediately begin looking for others to join you. In the book, Rob and I recommend starting with friends and family; you already have influence with them, and chances are you’re of like mind in many areas. Go to those family members who frequently ask you for advice or seek your opinion on personal matters, as you likely have greater influence with them.

To move beyond family, however, you’ll need to take a leap of faith and begin sharing your passion for solving the problem with other people. Passion attracts, and when people come to you with interest, don’t be afraid to ask them what they think or invite them to improve your ideas. Empowering people to help you creates a bond, and once that bond is established, you will quickly discover who you can truly work with and invite them to take action with you.

3. Do What You Can Where You Are Action is the final step. It doesn’t have to be big or grand; it doesn’t even have to be guaranteed of success. Nothing happens in life until someone does something, and once you take your first step, the next step will come into focus. Remember that transformation is a process, not an event. It takes time and repeated action to bring about positive change. So focus on purpose, not perfection, and do what you know to do.
