Flower Mound Memorial Day Observance - A Day to Remember Fallen soldiers were remembered during a Memorial Day program that featured the Flower Mound Fire Honor Guard, patriotic music, bagpipers, a wreath presentation and keynote speakers from the military and local leaders. A special Wall of Honor comprising photos and bios of fallen heroes submitted by residents was unveiled. Last fall, that dream became a reality. In November, David opened Crossfire Defense Academy & Range and Crossfit Patriot Way, two businesses under the same roof with a common goal – empowering individuals to protect themselves. As a former Navy Gunner’s Mate and a graduate of the police academy, he is no stranger to firearms and self-defense. “I’ve always been a firearms person,” he says. But David believes a gun should not be a person’s first line of defense, so he created Crossfit Patriot Way to complement Crossfire. “The reason we combine it all is that many times people think, ‘I’ll just get a gun, and I’ll be safe.’ But my personal philosophy is that a gun is your absolute last option. Your physical fitness is your first and most important tool,” he says. “If your goal is to survive a potentially dangerous encounter, and you can run and get away, that is what you should do,” he says. “If you can’t run, you have to know how to mitigate the circumstances with soft, empty hands.” David says if using a gun is the only option, individuals must know how to use a firearm under duress. Crossfit Patriot Way and Crossfire offer a class to teach individuals how to operate firearms under high-stress scenarios. “We teach two classes every day,” David says. “You shoot five rounds, and then we take you to the gym and you do five different high-intensity exercises. FROZEN LEMONADE ICE POPS WITH JELL-O WHAT YOU NEED Popsicle molds Popsicle sticks Jell-O (we recommend berry blue and watermelon) 4 cups cold water 1 cup Country Time lemonade drink mix 1 tub (12 ounces) Cool Whip, thawed 1 tablespoon lemon zest

WHAT YOU DO 1. Prepare the Jell-O as directed on the box. Pour into dishes so about 1 inch thick and refrigerate until set. 2. Blend water, lemonade mix, Cool Whip and lemon zest until smooth. 3. When Jell-O is set, remove from dishes and slice into small cubes (they’ll need to fit in the popsicle molds). 4. Fill the popsicle molds about halfway with Jell-O cubes, then fill the remaining space with the blended lemonade mixture. 5. Add popsicle sticks if needed and freeze overnight.
