A MotherDaughter Tradition
Family recipes that bring back memories of childhood and family gatherings are often an important link to the past—even more so when Mom is no longer with us. I did not think my mom and I had that tradition until I made an important discovery that brought this tradition to life in a karmic way.
When my mother passed, I went through her things and came across her recipe file of 3x5 cards, neatly organized by every category of food, including Jello molds (more on that in a moment). She was a very good “follow the recipe” cook. I was never invited into the kitchen to learn to cook. My mom would say, “go out and play,” and, being a tomboy, I happily did exactly that. Today, in our kitchen, Chef Benny pours me a glass of wine and tells me to brush the cat….and so I happily do! Tradition lives on!
I admire women who learned to cook recipes handed down from their mothers, grandmothers, bubbies and abuelas! Many women I know do the same for their daughters by creating family cookbooks.
Discovering Mom’s “famous” green Jello mold recipe, I had found something special to bring to the Thanksgiving buffet at my daughter’s in-laws’ home. I stressed over everything…how to unmold it and keep it from turning into a messy liquid, because I always expect the worst. It needed to turn over on a plate until you hear the POP and unmold beautifully. Oh yeah, I can handle that! I lost sleep worrying that it was headed for a giant serving bowl and a big spoon!
On Thanksgiving Day I proudly gave the mold to the kitchen staff and asked them to call me as soon as they set up the buffet, so I could unmold my creation. As luck would have it, I was too busy sipping my martini to know that my Jello mold had been successfully unmolded—so typical of the little girl who was sent out to play! The mold was perfect, and I took all the credit!
While I didn’t learn to cook alongside my mother in my youth, I am now, belatedly and magically, making and sharing my mother’s recipes. And I now have my own 3x5 recipe card file that I will proudly hand down to my daughter with love!

Should Your Home Be Staged?
Discover how staging can help your home sell faster and for more money
Staged homes sell faster and often for a higher price. According to the Real Estate Staging Association, staged homes sell 73% faster and yield an average return on investment of 297%. Isn't that what every home seller and their Realtor want?
Why Staging Matters:
1. Maximizing Your Home’s Value
Home staging isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a strategic business move. First impressions matter, and my team ensures your home makes an outstanding one. Our professional design team creates a luxury setting with carefully selected furniture and accessories to help buyers visualize the home at its best. Our staging is designed to inspire and pave the way for your home to be "Staged to Sell."
2. The Best Offers Come Early
Most top offers on a home come within the first 40 days of listing. This is why it’s essential to have your home staged before professional photos are taken and before the first showing. Waiting to make improvements can cost you potential buyers.
3. Buyers Want a Move-In Ready Home
Only 10% of buyers are looking for a fixer-upper, and they expect a deep discount. By not updating your home, you may be losing 90% of your potential market.
4. Investing in Updates Pays Off
Sellers often worry about the cost of updates, but the reality is, if improvements aren’t made, buyers will simply reduce their offer. Prioritizing updates—such as painting, re-glazing a bathtub, installing a new toilet, or updating lighting—can significantly increase your home’s appeal and value.
5. Stay True to Your Home’s Architecture
Staging should complement your home’s architectural style. For instance, a Tudor-style home should not feature Mediterranean accents. Consistency enhances appeal.
6.
Declutter for a Spacious Feel
Decluttering makes a home appear larger and more inviting. Don’t overlook outdoor spaces such as patios and decks—buyers want to see how these areas can be utilized.
7. Appeal to the Largest Buyer Demographic
Understanding your target market is crucial. If your home is in a trendy urban area, staging should reflect a modern, youthful style. If families are your primary buyers, the home should highlight a comfortable, family-friendly lifestyle.
8. See Your Home Through a Buyer’s Eyes
The way you currently have your home arranged may not be the most appealing to buyers. Let my design team evaluate your space and make recommendations to optimize its presentation for the market.

The Conejo Valley community spirit is evident in the strong support of its many nonprofit organizations. Here, we celebrate three special women who share a love for their community, expressed through their outstanding service to others. Dedicated to making a difference, they improve the lives of countless individuals with their selfless efforts to serve.
Flashback more than 3 decades when a group of women banded together to start a local Assistance League chapter. Among them was Shirley Eichhorn, current president of Assistance League of Conejo Valley. Introduced to the organization by a friend, Shirley joined their efforts early on and decided to stay.
A chapter of National Assistance League®, Assistance League of Conejo Valley is a volunteer nonprofit that provides philanthropic programs to improve the lives of children and adults.
“I joined about 30 years ago when there were just a few of us,” says Shirley. “Helping school kids is a main focus, and that drew me to stay.”
Today, the local nonprofit includes 195 members—138 adults and 57 teens—dedicated to helping through several programs. Operation School Bell® is a signature program that enables kids to go clothes shopping. Their literacy program supports students with reading help and their vision program funds eye exams and glasses.
The mother of four daughters, Shirley set an example with her generosity that her children wholeheartedly embraced. At 7, Megan, now 28, organized a book drive for kids.
“She felt for kids that didn’t have books; my daughter Alexis was a charter member of our teen auxiliary Assisteens®, where kids could donate and spend time doing things for their community,” notes Shirley.
Celebrating their 30th anniversary this June, Assistance League is going strong, in large part due to the proceeds generated by their thrift shop on Thousand Oaks Blvd.
“We’re so pleased that we really have a big following there; that really is our largest way of funding programs,” says Shirley. “Our chapter members do such a great job; it is the heart and the soul of the League. Our advisory council is also amazing— Al Adam is a member and a very nice supporter.”
In addition to the Assistance League, Shirley enjoys spending time with family, dining at Tuscany and supporting local businesses.
“We really try to go to places that are owned and operated by locals,” Shirley says. And while her heart is here—“the people are so friendly; the community is very close-knit”—she envisions a vacation.

NANCY Iskander
MARK AND JACOB ISKANDER FOUNDATION FOUNDER
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” —Ecclesiastes 3:11
Nancy Iskander’s faith has been a driving force in her life, helping her deal with the unimaginable grief and loss of her two children, Mark and Jacob.
“I feel when you lose a child (let alone two), it is hard to be 100% happy under any circumstances, however, my faith in Heaven and the beauty of it, makes my soul joyful,” shares Nancy.
She and her husband established the Mark and Jacob Iskander Foundation after their two young boys were fatally hit by a car while crossing the street in Westlake Village.
“We are a unique family; we were given a hard task to fulfill and a purpose,” says Nancy. “Although we are brokenhearted, we continue to support each other’s needs and look out for each other’s hearts like no other family does.”
In addition to her day job as a scientific communications lead at Amgen, Nancy leads the Mark and Jacob Iskander Foundation, which includes a foster care agency recruiting and licensing foster families, supporting an orphanage in Egypt and forging partnerships with local organizations such as Raising Hope and James Storehouse to provide resources to youth in need.
With a heart to help others, Nancy is motivated and fulfilled by her work.
“Joy and peace in the eyes of a young child makes me want to work harder,” she says, adding that she finds fulfillment in “Making my children in Heaven and on Earth proud and inspiring my family and community to turn pain into a blessing and bring life and goodness out of death.”
A Westlake Village resident for 9 years, Nancy says the people are the best thing about the area.
“Conejo Valley is home to some of the most caring and genuine people. The tragedy my family had to live allowed me to see how kind, giving and caring our community is.”
Continuing her efforts to make a difference in the lives of youth in need, Nancy works tirelessly to help yet still feels concerned “that I am not giving back enough.”
“I hope to continue to grow the services and adopt a child from the foster system to grow my family,” she says.
When time allows, Nancy enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, roller skating, learning new languages and (secretly) “I love flamenco!”
As president of Soroptimist International of Conejo Valley, Suzanne Walker leads a small but mighty force for good.
“Our club is very small; we’re currently only 15 members. We’ve been in existence for 43 years and most of the women who still belong have been involved for more than 20 years!” shares Suzanne, who joined the organization in 2019 and has served as president since 2022.
Despite their dwindling membership, Conejo Valley’s 10 Soroptimists hosted their annual Margarita Mix Off last September. Participants vote for the “best margarita in the west” while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine. Proceeds benefit the organization’s efforts to improve the lives of women and girls by providing education and training to help them achieve economic empowerment, including the Live Your Dream program.
“It is so nice to help these women, who are doing the best they can to raise their children and trying to get an education; most are really struggling to do it themselves,” says Suzanne, noting the Soroptimist’s motto is “working together to make dreams come true.”
“I invite women of all ages to join Soroptimist and be a part of this rewarding experience,” she adds.
Since relocating from Pennsylvania to the Conejo Valley in 2007, Suzanne helped raise her grandchildren before serving the community in various roles: an usher at the Civic Arts Plaza, a member and VP of the Westlake Women’s Club, a volunteer receptionist for Many Mansions and a participant in the Ventura Sheriff’s Citizen Academy.
“My mother was a nurse, and I do feel the need to help,” says Suzanne.
At 81, she is still very active, taking Jazzercize classes 2-3 days a week, lunching with friends and visiting family.
“I tell them back east, here, ‘it’s like living on an island; you wake up every morning and the sun is shining; there’s flowers, there’s trees... I’ve been very fortunate.” SOROPTIMIST

100 Women Who Care Conejo Valley:
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY ALICIA DOYLE
Since their inception in 2016, 100 Women Who Care Conejo Valley has donated more than $200,000 to support the Conejo Valley—proving that even a small commitment can create a big difference.
“Our goal is to support our local charities and the work that they do in funds, exposure and awareness in a minimal amount of time,” says Founder Kara DeMelfi.
“Our uniqueness lies in the simplicity of our model,” she continues. “We meet for just one hour, once a quarter, yet together we make a significant impact on our local community.”
How does it work?
“Our members have the opportunity to nominate organizations they are passionate about and give a short presentation to share the organization’s mission, the work they’re doing in our community and how our donations would directly support their efforts,” Kara explains.
Each member commits to donating $100 per quarter—or more, if they wish.
“The organization that receives the most votes becomes that quarter’s recipient, with all donations going directly to them.”
Each year, 100 Women Who Care Conejo Valley supports four organizations.
“In the past, we’ve supported incredible local groups like Healthier Tech, Conejo Community Outreach, Cancer Support Community, Harbor House, Bumblebee Foundation, Art Trek, The Mark and Jacob Foster Care Ministry, Conejo Schools Foundation-Hero-Up and Big Brothers Big Sisters—just to name a few,” Kara emphasizes.
The first chapter of 100 Women Who Care was founded in Jackson, Michigan, by the late Karen Dunigan, who always considered 100 Women Who Care to be one of her greatest

ideas, which came to her serendipitously during a fundraising meeting with leadership from the Center for Family Health. Karen learned that local mothers were bringing their babies home and putting them to sleep in boxes and dresser drawers because they couldn’t afford cribs, leading to the death of the infant in some cases.
Rather than seek a few large donors to meet the $10,000 goal for the project, Karen realized she easily knew 100 women who would be willing to donate $100. At their first meeting, the women raised over $12,000 for the project, and 100 Women Who Care was born. Today, there are more than 350 chapters in the 100 Who Care Alliance, including chapters of 100 Kids Who Care and 100 Men Who Care.
Over the years, 100 Women Who Care Conejo Valley has proudly supported nearly 30 local organizations, making a meaningful impact in the community. Their donations have funded a wide range of initiatives, including the following:
• Providing thousands of diapers to families in need
• Supplying eyeglasses for underprivileged youth
• Educating families about the harmful effects of digital media addiction
• Supporting families facing cancer diagnoses
• Housing, feeding and clothing foster youth
• Feeding the homeless
• Providing portable emergency kits to local schools
• Offering bullying prevention education
“We’re incredibly proud of the difference we’ve made together,” Kara says. For those who would like to get involved, fill out an online application at 100women whocareconejo.com/join.
“Once you sign up, you’ll be added to our outreach list and notified about upcoming meetings,” Kara says. “Our meetings are generously hosted at Holdren’s Steak & Seafood in Newbury Park at the end of January, April, July and October each year. We’d love to see you there!”
“Our goal is to support our local charities and the work that they do in funds, exposure and awareness in a minimal amount of time.”

HOUSING TRUST FUND’S Linda Braunschweiger
PAVES THE WAY FOR HOMES FOR ALL
ARTICLE BY HERIBERTO RODRIGUEZ, PR MANAGER, COVERLY PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
"Affordable housing is the foundation for a thriving community. When people have a stable place to call home, they can focus on improving their lives and contributing to the local economy," says Linda Braunschweiger, CEO of both Housing Trust Fund Ventura County (HTFVC) and Housing Land Trust Ventura County.
With over 35 years of experience in finance, affordable housing development, nonprofit management and public affairs—including lobbying at the federal, state and local levels and time spent at the White House and U.S. Senate—Linda is a driving force in Ventura County’s affordable housing landscape.
Since HTFVC began lending in 2013, the organization has provided $48.5 million in low-cost loans, resulting in the creation of 1,898 affordable homes across the county. With support from the 19-member Board of Directors, all 10 cities and the County of Ventura, banks, foundations and individual donors, the organization’s Revolving Loan Fund has become a powerful tool for affordable housing development. In total HTFVC has provided or committed early funding for 28 affordable housing developments since 2013 across Ventura County, with six developments funded and $14 million committed in 2024. This success was recognized in 2024 when Assemblymember Steve Bennett named HTFVC a California Nonprofit of the Year.
Under Linda’s leadership, HTFVC also leveraged the California State Prop 1 matching program from 2020 to 2024,
Linda Braunschweiger
raising over $14 million in local funds, which were successfully matched by the state.
"We are not just funding developments; we are investing in the future of our community and the well-being of its residents," Linda explains.
In 2020, Linda launched Housing Land Trust Ventura County to acquire and receive donated land for affordable housing projects. One of the trust's notable achievements was the 2022 donation of 3.87 acres by the City of Thousand Oaks. The site at 384 N. Erbes Road will become Hillcrest Homes, featuring 78 affordable, for-sale townhomes designed with energyefficient systems and a focus on reducing greenhouse gases.
“We value our long-term partnership with the City of Thousand Oaks. As an early investor into the Trust Fund, the city’s funds have been leveraged and cycled through our revolving loan fund many times over to produce affordable housing throughout Ventura County,” explains Linda.
“Affordable housing should be a stepping stone, a place that is beautiful, a place I feel proud of, and where I feel safe,” Daisy reflects.
Linda’s influence extends beyond HTFVC. She serves as Vice Chair of House Farm Workers!, as a member of the Ventura County Housing Coalition Steering Committee and on the Board of Directors of the California Coalition for Community Investment. She also chairs two national senior housing nonprofits and recently led the creation of "Hola Vecino!"—a collaborative video highlighting the importance of supporting Ventura County’s farmworker community.
“We are not just funding developments; we’re investing in the future of our community and the well-being of its residents.”
For residents like Daisy R., who transitioned from homelessness to stable housing at Mountain View Apartments in Fillmore, these efforts are life-changing. Funded in part by a $1,262,892 acquisition loan from Housing Trust Fund VC in 2019, the funding provided critical support early in the development cycle. The loan, with a 4% interest rate, has since returned to the revolving loan fund, allowing those funds to support future projects.
Outside of Ventura County, Linda works passionately to support housing opportunities through her mission work in third-world countries.
"Collaboration is key to creating lasting change. By working together, we can address the housing crisis and uplift our most vulnerable populations," says Linda.
She believes that affordable housing is essential for Ventura County’s future.
With California Lutheran University’s Center for Economic Research and Forecasting recently reporting the region's population is down 3.1% since its peak in 2016 and the civilian labor force has declined by 4.7% since 2012, Linda emphasizes the connection between housing and economic stability.
"A successful economy starts with a home for everyone. We want people to afford to work, live and stay in Ventura County," she says.
Conejo Valley Med Spa
Discover Your True Inner Radiance
As busy mothers and their loving families celebrate Mother’s Day, it’s the perfect time to explore Conejo Valley Med Spa’s offerings, including specialized aesthetic medicine modalities to help women illuminate their inner beauty by discovering how luxurious and simple it is to indulge in a variety of popular treatments.
“Our spa offers wonderful aesthetic medicine treatments that help busy professionals and moms who must balance their family obligations and still be able to take time to attend to their skin care needs,” shares Conejo Valley Med Spa Founder Sofia Eselin.
Passionate about all aspects of aesthetics in the med spa, Sofia focuses on ensuring safety, educating clients and utilizing an artistic approach to achieve a natural facial balance.
“I am also a neonatal intensive care nurse; I still work in the NICU occasionally,” notes Sofia, whose extensive training and experience ensures every client receives the highest quality of care and is fully informed about their treatments.
“I love all the treatments we offer,” says Sofia. “When a customer is seeking instant results, our filler can help to rejuvenate the whole face and it’s like a liquid facelift that provides instant gratification,” she says,

adding, “I also enjoy helping a patient invest the time in their skin health and dedicate themselves to a skin care regimen journey with collagen stimulation that is a biostimulation treatment that helps one’s own body improve her skin.”
Sofia's skills and expertise have gained her a loyal clientele.
"Sofia is a gem. She is very skilled with a good eye for what looks best. She is honest, caring and takes her time to really listen to my needs," says patient Michelle Selko.
LIQUID GOLD AND PDO THREAD LIFTS
“The best way to ensure cell growth within the body is by using PRP/PRF, otherwise known as ‘Liquid GoldGold,’” Sofia notes. “PRF is one’s platelet-rich fibrin and it can be applied through injection or microneedling. It works well on dark circles under the eyes. Leukocytes are found in PRF and help to speed up repair of both soft and hard tissue.”
PDO thread lifts are another effective treatment to lift, tighten and smooth the skin. In a nonsurgical procedure, absorbable polydioanane (PDO) threads are introduced into the deeper layers of one’s skin to grip layers of drooping tissue for an instant, natural-looking lift that gets better and better each day for months! The body takes between 4 to 6 months to absorb them, during which the threads help stimulate new collagen and elastin into one’s skin. PDO threads also help stimulate microcirculation and muscle relaxation, increasing tissue integrity and volume.
ADDRESSING HAIR LOSS
Conejo Valley Med Spa offers several procedures to help hair loss.
“Blood is taken from the patient, processed and then utilized to treat them,” explains Sofia. “Platelet-rich
fibrin uses your body’s stem cells to increase collagen production, tissue regeneration and hair regrowth. This multistep treatment provides the nutrients your scalp needs to reverse hair loss while stimulating new, noticeably thicker hair. These procedures can be used to promote collagen formation in the body, reduce the appearance of scarring and increase hair growth.”

SUPPORTING WOMEN WITH EXPERTISE AND COMPASSION
HRC FERTILITY
One of the greatest joys a woman can experience is giving birth to a child. Unfortunately, not every woman can conceive naturally and just might need a little help from science. Enter HRC
comprehensive care and support throughout the fertility journey.”
The act of helping women overcome reproductive obstacles is indeed something that is close to Dr. Peck’s heart.
“WE SPECIALIZE IN PROCEDURES RELATED TO FERTILITY EVALUATIONS, TREATMENTS AND REPRODUCTIVE SURGERIES.”
Fertility, helmed by Alison Peck, MD, who is dedicated to helping women become mothers.
With multiple locations across Southern California, HRC Fertility offers accessibility and convenience while catering to a wide range of patients. HRC Fertility’s treatments and services include a broad scope.
“We specialize in all procedures related to fertility evaluations, treatments and reproductive surgeries to improve success rates,” says Dr. Peck.
“Our services include in vitro fertilization (IVF), preimplantation genetic testing, fertility preservation through egg and embryo freezing, and thirdparty reproduction which includes egg donation, sperm donation and surrogacy. Our focus is on personalized,
“My journey to reproductive endocrinology dates back to the 1990s during my teenage years and is deeply personal. When I stopped getting my regular period I went to my first gynecology appointment. All I remember about that brief encounter is the doctor’s words: ‘If you don’t get your period regularly, you won’t have children.’ I knew I was going to be a doctor for as long as I could remember, but that moment I promised myself I would go into women’s health and find a way to be a compassionate doctor and mother.”
One thing is for sure: the dedicated doctor loves what she does. Whether it’s a positive pregnancy test, being a shoulder to cry on when things don’t work out or holding a sweet little
newborn at the end of the journey, Dr. Peck treasures all of these moments.
“For me, being a mother and being a part of the creation of life are the most rewarding, heartfelt achievements of my life.”
However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. In her 20-year career, one of the hardest parts of Dr. Peck’s job is facing failures.
“The hardest part of my job is facing a negative pregnancy test and picking myself and my patient up to try again… I think that’s the hardest part, needing to be resilient.”
She also stresses the importance of spreading awareness about fertility.
“One surprising thing people do not realize enough about fertility is that age significantly impacts both male and female fertility in ways that aren’t widely recognized. While many are aware that women’s fertility declines with age, particularly after age 35, it’s less commonly known that men’s fertility can also decrease over time.”
Dr. Peck encourages women dealing with fertility challenges.
“Put on your seatbelt and be ready for a ride. Dive in to the experience; know there are people like me here to journey with you, know you are not alone, lean on your people and pray for the best outcome.”

ON A MISSION TO UPLIFT MOTHERS
New Mom School
ARTICLE BY TRACY MARCYNZSYN
“
“We’re on a mission to fundamentally change the way that mothers are cared for.”
Mothers do so much to take care of their families, putting others’ needs first and often sacrificing their own desires. New mothers, especially, can feel a lack of support when they step into their role as a mom for the first time.
New Mom School was born from one woman's determination to address women’s need for community and guidance during this new stage of life.
Since its founding in 2012, New Mom School has helped more than 10,000 mothers find support and assistance as well as friendship.
“We’re on a mission to fundamentally change the way that mothers are cared for,” says Owner/ Instructor Stephanie Karlubian, who celebrated the grand opening of her New Mom School franchise in Westlake Village last month on April 26.
“I remember that after I had both of my baby girls, I had postpartum depression, but I didn’t know that’s what it was at the time,” shares Stephanie. “If New Mom School would have been around then, it would have changed how I felt. I wouldn’t have felt so alone and isolated,” she says, noting that an estimated 80% of women in the U.S. experience some form of postpartum distress.
Given the lack of social support and the unrealistic expectations placed on new moms, it’s no wonder so many mothers struggle with the baby blues, explains Stephanie.
“After giving birth, the baby receives pediatric care while mom only has one checkup with her OB between 4 to 6 weeks, clearing her to go back to regular activities as well as her new life as a mother. There is no training for your most important role in life, and New Mom School is here to change that,” says Stephanie, a mother of two girls, 2 and 4 years old.
Alex Spitz established New Mom School about 13 years ago in Orange County with the goal of creating community and educational support for mothers. Unlike traditional mommy-and-me programs, New Mom School uniquely combines expert-led, researchbased education with a strong emphasis on building meaningful connections among mothers. They make sure the classes are intentionally small to create a more personal and supportive environment. Courses are geared for moms with babies up to 12 months old, grouped according to age and developmental stage: newborn (0-3 months), infant (3-6 months), rising toddler (6-12 months) and second-time mom for those with more than one baby. Each course consists of 8 weeks of sessions focusing on different topics for 14 mothers and their babies, as well as a visiting expert in almost every class.
“We have an in-house IBCLC (lactation consultant), who definitely could have helped me as a new mother. I exclusively pumped because I couldn’t get my girls to latch,” shares Stephanie.
Additional offerings at New Mom School include a complimentary breastfeeding support group, mommy and me yoga and prenatal yoga.
“Being a mother is my favorite job and I feel very passionate about it,” says Stephanie.
“New Mom School is founded on the belief that motherhood is not meant to be a solitary journey and that education, encouragement and community are essential for mothers to thrive. This is the core of what we do.”
New Mom School is located in the Water Court Complex at 880 Hampshire Road, Suite D. Call 818.452.1307 or visit NewMomSchool.com/westlakevillage-ca for more information.

TEEN LEADERS RALLY TO FIGHT BLOOD CANCER
Throughout Conejo Valley, a remarkable group of young women stepped up to make a difference in the fight against blood cancer. Led by Oak Park High School sophomore Madison Tabb, the Relentless Hearts team—a dedicated group of high schoolers from across the area—embarked on a 7-week leadership and fundraising challenge as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year campaign. Madison was joined by her incredible teammates Alexandra Matthies, Isabella Neminov, Jenna Maynard, Juliet McCabe, Lauren DeLaet, Madison Khatami, Milena Hampton and Peyton Klein—each bringing their passion and dedication to the cause. Together, they embraced the challenge not just as fundraisers, but as leaders, advocates and changemakers.
A MISSION FUELED BY PASSION AND COMMUNITY
From the start, Madison and her team knew they wanted to do something big—
something that would leave a lasting impact. They spent countless hours writing letters, sending emails and meeting with local business owners to gain support. They rallied their families, friends and networks—turning passion into action. Their efforts included events and outreach:
• A Parents’ Night Out at Monarchs Gymnastics – Parents dropped off their kids for a fun-filled evening of gymnastics and games, with proceeds going to LLS.
• A Community Fundraiser at The Habit Burger Grill – They partnered with the popular eatery for a give-back night, uniting the community over burgers for a cause.
• Personalized Outreach – They sent hundreds of letters and emails, made direct calls and leveraged CharityBuzz auctions to reach supporters beyond their immediate circles.
Beyond fundraising, the campaign challenged them to grow as leaders. They learned how to build connections, make bold asks and inspire others to take action.
They juggled school, sports and extracurriculars—while dedicating themselves fully to this mission.
SUPPORT A LASTING LEGACY
While their official campaign has ended, the impact of Relentless Hearts will continue for years to come. The funds raised will support lifesaving research, patient services and advocacy efforts for better treatments. Thanks to the dedication of these young women, more families will have access to the care they need and more breakthroughs will be made in the fight against blood cancer.
It’s not too late to help support their mission. Every dollar fuels cutting-edge research and critical patient care. To make a donation, visit events.lls.org/calso/ svoygc25/trelentles
As we celebrate the power of women in leadership, let’s recognize these unstoppable young changemakers. Their passion, resilience and heart prove that when women lead—at any age—real change happens.

Through Her Eyes
Each family’s stories are woven with the strength of women who came before us.
Our moms, grandmothers, aunts and all the fearless businesswoman who broke barriers with their journeys of paying it forward to the young girls that are coming up now.
Whether managing a household or a business, these women are shaping the world and reshaping the next generation.
My mom taught me many things that help me in my everyday life, things that I saw her struggle through. I learned new and empowering ways to live my life with my children. The true meaning of resilience between comforting and juggling countless responsibilities. The women in my family shared a huge gift that I could do anything I put my mind to and was told to fight for and follow my dreams with kindness and integrity.
My grandmother shared her stories over cups of tea and always encouraged me to be true and kind to myself, noting how important generations are and that family is everything. My mom was my children’s Nana; she showed them unconditional love, as I do
to my five grandchildren. I’m encouraging women all over the world to share their gifts with their family and grandchildren to keep balance in life while meeting deadlines, still having dinner times and keeping family first. Be relentless in your success, not just for your own personal victory but attribute it to the generations of women who paved the way for us.
These women and the next women will remind us that we are never alone; as we move forward, remember to honor them. “Be the woman who fixes another woman's crown without telling the world it was crooked.”
You never know how valuable your mother's advice is until you can't get it. I miss mine so much and I’m so blessed that I had my Mama.

From Stem To Vase:
TRANSFORMING FLORALS INTO ART
Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings.
As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the superstitions
associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.
In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.
Hanging Florals
Florals and Fruit
Add an extra burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase to preserve their shape. Fill the surrounding space with water and then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.
For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.
No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.
Flower Frogs
Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
