So I started perfecting my craft, creating with them all the time, which was surprising, as decorating wasn’t my strongest aspect of culinary school at all. HOW DID YOU END UP AUDITIONING FOR CANDY LAND? Well, that event in my life was rather surprising, too, to say the least. I’ve been doing my cake photography and sharing my creations with friends and family for years now. But when the producers of Candy Land saw my work via social media, it intrigued them enough that they wanted to see what I could do as a member of one of the teams. I was sort of 12

PAGE TURNERS TV JOURNALIST JOAN LUNDEN CANDIDLY EXPLORES AGING
“GOOD MORNING AMERICA!” For nearly two decades, those were the words we heard from TV broadcast veteran Joan Lunden when she greeted viewers on the ABC news program. As the longest-running female host ever on early morning television, Joan reported from 26 countries, covered five presidents, showcased several Olympics and kept us up-to-date on how to care for our homes, families and health. She’s a sought-after motivational speaker and has authored 12 books,

Now 70 years old, a mother of seven, including two sets of teen twins, Joan returned to morning television--reporting about Baby Boomers, aging and friendships on NBC’s The Today Show. In a virtual video interview with the journalist from her home, Joan tells me it was a question from a Hollywood reporter that prompted her to write her latest book, WHY Did I Come Into This Room? She recalls, “This young guy, his first question to me was, ‘Well, Ms. Lunden, what is it going to be like for you going back to morning television as a senior citizen?’ I almost fell off my chair!” she exclaims.

BRAIN TUMOR SURVIVOR (CONTINUED)
His head surgery was on Nov. 5, 2014. Instead of the 16- to 32-week recovery period, he was back into the gym after two weeks. But, the quick-healing super trainer -- nicknamed the Man of Steel by his medical team and family -- unfortunately suffered a staph infection nine months later and had to survive a second skull surgery. “So, I had to remind myself that we don’t always get what we want. And that’s OK, we don’t have to be sad about it. We just have to get into the mindset of getting through it and overcoming it,” Jamie says, who pledges to help others get through their own challenges. “The tumor caused me to look at life very differently. There are only two relationships that really, really count in life -- the one you have with the person immediately in your life and the one you have with yourself,” asserts Jamie. “It’s more important to appreciate the people in your life and what they’re meant to be for you and with you.” Now Jamie’s one more checkup scan away this year from being considered medically tumor-free from a surprise ordeal that started six years ago, and he’s emotionally rock solid. jamie@redfitnesslounge.com 314.497.8838 RedFitnessLounge.com

$30 million in renovations,” she adds. “The property is great for first time spa/wellness travelers because it’s a good value and once your stay is booked, someone works with you to personalize the trip exactly the way you want it.” Since 1979, this award-winning destination has earned a global reputation in healthy living and holistic wellness. The resort’s three–, five– and seven-night pathway packages include five to 10 curated services and activities. As an all-inclusive operation, the following features are available to Canyon Ranch guests: daily activities, hikes, bikes, yoga, creative arts, exercise classes, chef-prepared delicious nutrition, expansive spa, fitness facilities, indoor-outdoor pools, tennis courts, meditation garden, fitness trainers, nutritionists, spiritual wellness guides, physicians, certified de-burdeners and airport transfers. The resort’s doctors and nurse practitioners can help identify concerns and collaborate with nutritionists and trainers to hone each guest’s plan. “Most people get picked up at the airport by Canyon Ranch and never leave the property until time to go back to the airport,” testifies Marcie. For travel plans to Canyon Ranch, email marcie@RSVPEventsOnline.com or 636.778.1081. By booking with Travel Leaders, Marcie says clients can get an additional $100 in resort credit to spend while there, plus a free upgrade when available, as well as early check in and late check out. When asked for a go-to warm up of a different sort, Monica shared her favorite chili recipe for keeping clients full and fit during the winter months. “Not only do I love this recipe, but I’ve heard from many of my meat-loving clients that this is one of their favorites due to the awesome spice in it,” she shares. This recipe was developed by Melissa Costello—the long-time chef for P90X creator Tony Horton—as a chili that is lower in saturated fat and higher in fiber than most beef versions, but still packed with protein and tons of flavor.
