As a singer, Elizabeth's soul-stirring melodies have won the hearts of audiences worldwide, making her music a powerful outlet for self-expression and connection.

In acting, she showcased her exceptional skills in the musical "Castle of Wishes," earning widespread acclaim for her memorable performances. Her talents extend beyond the stage, as evidenced by her impressive filmography, which includes the 2022 series "Fortuneteller," directed by Alexander NovikovYanginov, where she took on a compelling role.

Elizabeth's radiant beauty and infectious charm have also made her the face of renowned brands, shining as a successful model in the fashion industry.

Hitting All the Right Notes

PROFESSIONAL SINGER LINDSEY CLOUD USES HER VOICE TO INSPIRE OTHERS

As a professional singer who has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl,  Lindsey Cloud also owns Coast Music, a voice and piano lesson studio to teach and inspire the next generation of performers.

Lindsey has taught over 50,000 lessons in the last 12 years of Coast Music’s existence. She said she was inspired by the coaches that motivated her throughout her career.

“All my life my vocal coaches were my biggest mentors. They gave me confidence by helping me become excellent at my craft while also caring about me as a person. It is why I do what I do, and has shaped the way in which

I coach clients. It makes my work incredibly rewarding and I believe the reason I have success in coaching today.”

Although the pandemic affected the way people were able to teach music, Lindsey said Coast Music continued to offer music lessons through virtual meetings. She said she got more creative with the way they teach lessons.

“It opened up a whole new realm. Now we have clients all over the world because we teach lessons remotely. we can reach more people in a way I would’ve never thought possible.”

In addition to coaching, Lindsey is grateful to be performing in person again. She will be singing jazz music with a new trio and auditioning for the Los Angeles Master Chorale. She is excited to be in the recording studio where she hopes to sing more choral film sessions and ethereal video game music.

“I get this rush when I perform,” Lindsey said. “It’s the thing I am most passionate about and that has been a part of my whole life. I have always dreamed of doing this.”

For clients who are interested in singing professionally, or as a hobby, Lindsey advises people to practice consistently if they want to become successful at their craft.

“I grew up my whole life with people telling me I was talented, but it wasn’t until I developed the discipline to work hard that I was successful,” Lindsey said.

In addition to motivation from her coaches and her personal drive, Lindsey said she was inspired by the family of strong women she grew up with and when her daughter was born, it lit a fire under her.

“I don't want to just tell my daughter she can be whatever she wants. I want to show her. I think that so many times women are afraid to do what they already know they need to do. I don't want her to feel that.”

Maison Garrison: Elevating Women’s Style with European Flair

Shirley Garrison’s Inspiring Journey Empowering Confidence Through Fashion

With a sustainable mission in mind, Shirley Garrison brings the trends of European fashion to her boutique Maison Garrison. Founded in 2019, Maison Garrison offers women’s apparel with a European flair inspired by Shirley’s travels to Milan and Paris.

“That fashion style is fast forward to the U.S. fashion,” Shirley said. “By the time all the regular stores obtain the styles and the looks we’re now two years ahead.”

After working in corporate America, Shirley fully committed herself to Maison Garrison this year. Shirley was born and raised in Belgium and said she was inspired to design fashion that makes women feel beautiful.

“Being born and raised in Europe, I always had a strong passion to get in the fashion business. We take pride in bringing these European styles to Claremont,” Shirley said

The boutique focuses on an eclectic mix of pieces to be used in the office, leisure wear, everyday clothing, and event outfits. Shirley said the goal of Maison Garrison is to make a lasting first impression and to help women find their individualized styles.

“I am here for all the ladies to feel good in their skin and walk out with more confidence than they ever had,” Shirley said.

Although there are many boutiques in the area, Shirley said she noticed there were not many boutiques with unique high-quality fashion at an affordable price. She said she is proud to use their high-quality fabric selection from around the world.

“That’s what our customers love here. They only have to put their hand on the fabric and they already know its quality. Once they try it on, they’re sold,” Shirley said.

One aspect of the company that Shirley is very proud of is the fact that all of its designs are manufactured in the United States. Shirley said it was important to her that Maison Garrison ethically produced their clothing and still offer it at a reasonable price.

Maison Garrison focuses on producing their clothing and accessories in small batches to ensure the highest quality. Shirley also said once pieces sell out, only a few people own that piece of clothing which makes their clothes more unique.

In addition to their quality clothing and accessories, Shirley said the team at Maison Garrison helps customers find the right pieces and styles them personally. She said she strives to provide a full-service boutique.

“You get styled for free. We look at skin tone, hair color, eye color, and shape of the body and we help style these women to their fullest potential,” Shirley said.

Shirley said so many customers get compliments for new outfits and she has met returning customers who come to refresh their own wardrobe. She said she has always been driven by making other women feel beautiful in the way that they dress.

“Making women more confident in themselves and feeling better about themselves is my drive,” Shirley said.

Maison Garrison has grown from its roots in the high desert area and looks to expand to beach communities in the near future. However, their focus is currently on their store located in Claremont, California. They have a website where customers can shop, along with their storefront. They also have yearly appearances at the Village Venture Festival and appear at many community events in Claremont.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER BEST LIGHT

Local photographer, Nimal Perera, continues to follow his passion for photographing people and families. After retiring from a 37-year-long career in manufacturing, Nimal has been a professional photographer for the last 6 years and is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America Association. “Photography has been a passion of mine all throughout my working life.” His favorite style of photography involves working with outdoor natural lighting.

His original love for photography began in Sri Lanka, where he was born. Nimal once had a teacher who had a film camera that inspired and mentored him. Nimal said he even set up a dark room in his family home to develop his own pictures as well as his teacher’s photos.

“I couldn’t afford a camera to do that, and my teacher graciously agreed to loan me his camera if I needed it. The photos he was showing us as students inspired me to photograph people and the world at large.”

Although Nimal earned his accredited degree in mechanical engineering from the  University of Sri Lanka, he kept his love for photography throughout his travels around the world. He moved to Montreal to work and continued to work for the same company until he retired as a manufacturing executive in Canada and the United States. He later moved to California and at another point in time after that, Boston, Massachusetts for his work.

After returning to California in 2013, Nimal completed a professional photography program.

In addition to his professional pictures, he took photographs of his three children and his wife for his own personal collection. His other hobbies include gardening, golfing, and traveling with his wife. A fun fact about Nimal is he now speaks four languages: Sinhalese, English, French, and Italian. Having worked with City Lifestyle for the past several months, Nimal is a hardworking and passionate individual that puts his family and the community first. He would be honored to take your picture.

Makeup artist, Ashley Luque, talks about her definition of beauty

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for self-taught makeup artist, Ashley Luque, beauty comes from within.

“Beauty is how you feel about yourself on the inside and what you’re exuding out into the world. You are what you put out,” Ashley said.

Ashley works as a manager at MAC Cosmetics where her mother was a makeup artist before her. She said her mother used to work for several makeup companies and her grandmother also worked in the beauty industry. Ashley said she originally grew up in Covina.

With more than ten years of experience, Ashley said her job is to show people that makeup is attainable to educate people on products that might work best for them because everyone has different skincare and makeup needs.

“I do love making people feel good, I really do. Not everyone knows how to do makeup, there are a lot of people who don’t and want to. I love to teach people and show people it’s doable."

"The perception of social media scares me because some people are comparing

themselves to girls who use makeup filters and these days even artificial intelligence!” She said some girls might get discouraged by the makeup they see on social media and be disappointed when the same makeup looks different on them. However, Ashley said makeup looks different on everyone and people do not all use the same products or techniques.

Despite her fears, Ashley looks to expand her social media presence and following. "One of my favorite parts of being a makeup artist is interpersonal interactions, so I am excited and nervous to grow via social media. It’s a challenge for me to really make that transition, but it will happen. Different changes in life (for everybody) cause us to do different things and try new things and that’s where I am now."

Although Ashley loves all different types of makeup looks, she primarily does beauty and bridal make-up looks. She also enjoys doing Halloween looks with fun colors and face paints and wants to learn how to use prosthetics makeup.
