From Tuscan-Style Spritzes to Private Alpine Hideaways, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail Ushers in a Joyful New Winter Era

ARTICLE BY TONY FIRESTINE

Winter in Vail is always magical, but this year, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail is elevating the alpine holiday spirit like never before. From exclusive culinary events to imaginative family traditions, the mountainside retreat invites guests and locals to embrace the season with style and warmth.
For families and friends seeking a bespoke alpine getaway, Four Seasons Vail's 23 Private Residences each come with their own expression of Rocky Mountain comfort and elegance. These villas and suites feature fully equipped kitchens, spacious living and dining areas for après gatherings big and small, and sweeping views of Vail Mountain’s winter wonderland. Personalized interiors reflect the warmth and serenity of the Colorado mountains, creating a retreat that feels both luxurious and lived in.
After a day on Vail’s legendary slopes, guests can unwind in The Chalet's cozy lounge with light bites and refreshments just steps away from Gondola One, before heading back to the resort to enjoy the newest aprèsski offering: Après-Tivo at Tavernetta Vail. An Italian approach to après-ski that pairs comforting bites with fine wines and spirited service, Après-Tivo also features the restaurant’s beloved Spritz Window. Inspired by the relaxed charm of Tuscany’s wine windows, this walk-up concept invites guests to sip sparkling spritzes with the push of a button after a long day on the slopes. With its bright, effervescent cocktails and playful “Buzz for Spritz” call to action, it’s poised to become the season’s most talked-about social stop.

Holiday dining also takes center stage throughout the season, including the restaurant’s inaugural Truffle & Barolo Wine Dinner on December 11, featuring black and white truffles shaved tableside alongside benchmark Nebbiolo wines.
For a cozy antidote to the winter chill, The Remedy Bar offers its beloved Haute Chocolate, handcrafted and presented with a dramatic pour that melts a housemade marshmallow atop a chocolate lattice. Whether enjoyed fireside or with a spirited twist of whiskey or peppermint schnapps, it’s a winter must.
Festive programming unfolds across the resort, from Whovail’s whimsical gingerbread village to fireside s’mores. And when the year draws to a close, guests can enjoy prime views of Vail’s iconic torchlight parade and fireworks from the new Chalet or The Remedy Terrace before stepping into the Midnight in the Mountains Masquerade—a candlelit New Year’s Eve celebration filled with glamour and champagne.
Whether stopping by for a celebratory spritz or settling into one of the Private Residences for a longawaited family getaway, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail captures everything travelers love about winter in the mountains—sparkling experiences, indulgent comforts, and thoughtful traditions made effortless. Every moment is curated: early-morning turns followed by fireside cocoa, elegant dinners, and cozy nights spent surrounded by the people who matter most. And as the snow continues to fall over Vail’s storied peaks, Four Seasons ensures that the magic doesn’t just happen outdoors but lives within every detail.

“To be Southern is to be many things.” This understanding of the patchwork of Southern culture led to the naming of Mary Allison Wright and McLain Hedges’ newest restaurant, Rougarou. “Le Rougarou” refers to a shapeshifter found in Cajun folklore, historically used as both a cautionary tale and a source of mischief. But for Mary and McLain, co-creators of Yacht Club, it also represents the multitudes found with Southern culture and cuisine. From their hometown of Chattanooga, TN, to New Orleans, the team at Rougarou has woven something special together to represent the areas and dishes that have formed them.

“We are all experiencing this level of contentment we haven’t experienced before, it does not feel forced.” level of contentment

Rougarou’s menus are welcoming, unexpected, and fun. Executive Chef JohnDavid Wright, also Mary’s brother, brings finesse to family dishes and classic southern meals. When asked how it felt to be bringing cuisine and recipes that raised them, Mary responded, “We are all experiencing this level of contentment we haven’t experienced before, it does not feel forced.” Dishes of note include Hot and Sour Catfish*, Blue Cheese Tart, Granddad’s Chicken, and Rice Pudding. Not be eaten alone, be sure to order a Sorghum Daiquiri*, Bananas Foster Julep, or Melon Sazerac.
Not only are Mary, McLain, and JohnDavid sharing their story with you, they are forever hospitable and ensuring you will be well fed late into the night. With the kitchen open till 1 AM, Denver finally has a spot to grab food and drink after a late work night or show with friends.

Rougarou will also continue to morph, with the opening of a bottle shop next door called Overpour, “a curated bottle shop mixed with a Cracker Barrel gift shop.” Opening around Thanksgiving 2025, Overpour is your one-stop spot to grab wine, cheese, and small gifts for your upcoming holiday party. It will also serve “The Backyard,” the final form of Rougarou, to open in the summer of 2026 for individuals to choose their own adventure, purchase a bottle of wine, and sit outside while enjoying live music.
Visit Rougarou on Welton Street in the Five Points neighborhood. Doors and kitchen open 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day but Wednesday. Reservations can be made at LeRougarou.com
*$1 from every serving goes to Curtis Park Neighbors, to support efforts serving Rougarou’s neighbors.

Tired of mindless scrolling or yet another “let’s grab drinks” plan? The stylish alternative is here: the weekly game night revival. From the click of Mahjong tiles to the laugh-out-loud energy of Bunco, these nights bring back what we’re missing most—real connection. It’s social, tactile, and the perfect balance of nostalgic charm and modern fun.
Part of the magic is in the mix—games keep our brains buzzing with strategy and luck, while the ritual of showing up week after week deepens friendships in a way no group chat ever could. There’s also a cultural draw: Many players are leaning into the history and heritage behind these classics, finding fresh meaning in traditions that span generations.

Part of the magic is in the mix—games keep our brains buzzing with strategy and luck, while the ritual of showing up week after week deepens friendships in a way no group chat ever could.

Add in modern branding, stylish sets, and easy-to-learn versions, and suddenly board games feel less like grandma’s pastime and more like a trend worth scheduling. In a town where community is currency, groups of friends are carving out regular nights to gather and indulge in a little playful competition. The new wave of game gatherings feels intentional and designed for connection. Here are a few front-runners in the comeback:
Mahjong (typically 4 players): Equal parts strategy and artistry. Sets are often as beautiful as they are functional—ivory-toned tiles, lacquered trays. It’s tactile luxury for four. Think of it as poker’s elegant, meditative cousin.
Bunco (12+ players): Loud, fast, and guaranteed to leave your cheeks sore from laughing. Bunco thrives in big groups, which makes it the perfect energy booster for a gal’s night with wine flowing. It’s less about skill and more about rolling, mingling, and having a blast.
Spades (4 players): Classic, competitive, and endlessly replayable. Think partners, strategies, and bragging rights; it’s everything you love about a card game, elevated. If you like a little friendly rivalry, this one keeps the stakes high without ever getting old.
Backgammon (2 players): With roots tracing back over 5,000 years, backgammon is one of the world’s oldest continuously played board games. Equal parts strategy and luck, it’s a dance of risk and reward as players race their checkers off the board before their opponent.
Dominoes (2–6 players): From block games to Mexican Train, dominoes feel timeless, approachable, and, when paired with a velvety glass of red, unexpectedly chic. It’s simple to learn, satisfying to play, and scales beautifully from two to a whole group.
Keep it elevated, not overcomplicated. Rotate houses to share the load. Lock in a recurring weeknight, so game night becomes a ritual. Lean on a luxe-but-simple spread: a charcuterie board, some sweet treats, a round of cocktails or mocktails poured into beautiful glassware. Fresh flowers or a flicker of candlelight instantly sets the mood.
The truth is, the real luxury isn’t in the food or the drink—it’s really in the consistency. It’s about carving out space to make the evening fun and lighthearted. So, dust off those dice, shuffle the cards, and let the games begin.

A retro favorite made chic again.
Ingredients:
• 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
• 1 cup shredded sharp white cheddar
• 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
• 1 tbsp chopped parsley
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• ¼ tsp cracked black pepper
• ½ cup chopped toasted pecans (or pistachios)
To make: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar, chives, parsley, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and pepper until smooth. Shape into a ball and roll in toasted nuts to coat. Chill for at least 1 hour to firm up. Serve with an assortment of crackers, seeded flatbreads or crisp apple slices.
Another fun way to elevate your cheeseball is to make little individual cheeseballs served on their own cracker.
A bubbly, bitter, and festive sipper to keep the games going!
Ingredients:
• 1 ounce gin
• .5 ounce amaro
• .5 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
• 3 ounce prosecco, to top
• lemon wheel or peel, to garnish
To make: Shake all ingredients with ice, except for prosecco. Strain and pour into a stemmed wine glass or coupe, top with prosecco, and garnish with a lemon wheel.
To add an extra activity to your game night, add an amaro tasting alongside “The Lucky Roll” cocktail!

CURATED GIFT GUIDES FROM DENVER TASTEMAKERS WHO LOVE TO SHOP LOCALLY

Artist Wendy Talmon, who creates small- and large-scale fiber sculptures, prefers to browse local boutiques in person rather than shop online when it comes to finding the perfect presents for her loved ones. “I love to touch and see things firsthand,” she says. This season, Talmon has her eye on unique finds ranging from sculptural bags to chic metallic boots.

1. Fois Gras Delivery, from Goudy French Cuisine, $41-$61
2. Fishwife Albacore Tuna in Spicy Olive Oil, from The Ambrosian Pantry, $11
3. Regeneratively Raised Local Meats, from Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe
4. Hitohira KH Western Stainless Gyuto Knife, from Carbon Knife Company, $185
5. Fresh Sourdough, from Leven Deli Co.

Epicurean delights are the center of Denver chef Dane Hiett’s gifting ideas, whether it’s freshly baked bread or specialty kitchenware. Cooking, he says, “is storytelling through flavor. During the holidays, our events take on a special energy, filled with festive music, laughter, and the joy that comes from gathering around the table.” Professionally and personally, Hiett also chooses to support local farmers and artisans. “It preserves regional food traditions and ensures that future generations continue to experience the distinct quality and character that come from ingredients grown with care and close connection.”

1. Voyage et Cie Lavender Bath Salts and Bubble Bath, from Homebody. “This is a great home store with soaps, linens, and vases that I love,” Johnson says.
2. Juliska Glassware, Match Low Ball Glasses, and Simon Pearce Pitchers, from Homefest
3. Gift Card to Osteria Alberico. “I love the mafaldine pasta and the amazing selection of Italian wines.”
4. Apotheke White Vetiver Candle, from Be Home
5. Photography, by Jack Ludlam
6. Hand-Carved Canvas Art, by Cora Sexton Wheeler
For Jackie Johnson, who runs her eponymous Denver design firm, the holiday season is “an excuse to dress up, decorate, and see friends and family.” Johnson’s love for interiors is evident in her gift picks—an assortment of goods for the well-appointed home—though she says travel is also a failproof gift. “Last year, my husband [Erik Johnson, recently retired Colorado Avalanche player] and I gave each other joint trips to Europe. Travel will create memories to last a lifetime.”

1. Custom Watercolor Pet Portrait, by Gina Dodge, $50. “Gina’s hand-painted pet portraits are my favorite gift,” Huffer says. “Everyone feels so special receiving something handmade, especially of their animal.”
2. Carol Ferguson Tiny Bee Gold Pendant, from Element 79, $700
3. Rachel Comey Alma Dress in Personals Print, from Recital, $795 “Love this little nod to keeping print journalism alive.”
4. Aquila The Ouzel, from Small Batch Liquors, $25. “Aquila Cellars is an incredible local wine.”
5. Alchemy Facial Recovery Oil, from Alchemy Face Bar, $85
It seems Kelsey Huffer, a professional photographer who also oversees editorial operations at Cherry Creek Lifestyle, was destined to love gifting. “I was born on December 21st, and my birth announcement stated, ‘Best Gift Yet,’” she shares. When the holiday season arrives, Huffer immediately gets into the spirit by planning a shopping day with her best friend. “We move from one local favorite local shop to the next. This is always a fun memory to round out the year.”

2655 East Cedar Avenue Anchors a Refined New Trio of Estates in Cherry Creek, Where Craftsmanship and Comfort Converge

In Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood, an extraordinary newly built estate invites a lifestyle defined by elegance, serenity, and sophisticated design. At 2655 East Cedar Avenue, more than 8,500 square feet of meticulously envisioned architecture elevates everyday living into an experience of indulgence and intention.
“This collection of homes represents a rare convergence of timeless architecture, thoughtful livability, and impeccable craftsmanship.”
The estate’s scale supports grand living, its composition suggests quiet confidence, and its location promises immediate access to world-class amenities without sacrificing privacy or space to breathe.
The two neighboring homes within the development will soon complete a carefully imagined architectural ensemble, each contributing its own style and spatial experience while maintaining the same elevated design standards. Thoughtful planning creates a cohesive architectural experience across all three estates while allowing each to stand apart aesthetically. “From the beginning, the goal was to create a streetscape that felt elegant and harmonious while allowing each home to express its own architectural personality,” explains Josh Behr, Principal Broker for The Behr Team, the #1 real estate team in Denver, and at Liv Sotheby’s International Realty. Clean lines, natural textures, and abundant glass unify the collection, yet each property introduces unique floor plans and finish variations.
“This collection of homes represents a rare convergence of timeless architecture, thoughtful livability, and impeccable craftsmanship,” explains Josh. He notes that the development offers a retreat that complements the elevated lifestyle of the surrounding district. “It is not only about proximity to the Cherry Creek lifestyle; it is about being able to return home to a sanctuary that mirrors that same level of refinement.”

That sanctuary is instantly evident upon entering 2655 East Cedar Avenue. Sculptural lines and a timeless material palette introduce an air of modern luxury that continues throughout the home. The great room creates a dramatic centerpiece, anchored by a soaring marble fireplace and Nano doors that open to dissolve the divide between indoors and out. Fluid connections between dining, living, and outdoor areas create a resort-style ambiance ideally suited to both relaxation and entertaining.
The kitchen serves as both a culinary atelier and a gathering place, defined by exceptional craftsmanship. “The Matarazzo marble and custom White Dove oak cabinetry introduce a soft, organic palette that feels timeless,” Josh says. Professional Thermador appliances, a full marble backsplash, and a nearly 100-bottle wine column ensure that function meets artistry at every turn. The space flows seamlessly into the formal dining room and covered patio, encouraging celebrations of every scale.
The west wing is dedicated entirely to an exceptional primary suite, a private realm designed to soothe the senses. A fireplace, balcony overlooking manicured grounds, dual vanities, an oversized shower, and a sculptural soaking tub define its spa-level bathroom. A couture-inspired custom wardrobe completes the sanctuary. “The home was designed around the idea of restorative luxury,” Josh says. “Every element contributes to a sense of calm and composure that makes this estate feel like a sanctuary within the city.”
“The home was designed around the idea of restorative luxury. Every element contributes to a sense of calm and composure that makes this estate feel like a sanctuary within the city.”
Three additional en-suite bedrooms share the upper level, separated by a luminous loft that maintains privacy and spatial balance for family and guests. The lower level furthers the residence’s focus on wellness and enjoyment. A lounge with wet bar, a climate-controlled wine room, a glass-enclosed fitness studio, and a state-of-the-art golf simulator establish entertaining as an art form.
Life at 2655 East Cedar Avenue is meant to feel effortless. This residence has been built for those who appreciate artistry in construction, nuance in interiors, and a living environment that reinforces a sense of balance.
Above all, this property embodies the promise of enduring luxury in Cherry Creek, a neighborhood synonymous with excellence. It represents an opportunity to claim a personalized retreat within a coveted locale. For buyers seeking a home that expresses both sophistication and intention, the address on East Cedar Avenue will undoubtedly stand among Denver’s most desirable for years to come.

“Haley Custom Homes was able to get us in touch with an architect who turned our vision into a plan. From there, the Haley team took over. We had an aggressive timeline and the team beat it by more than a month. The transformation that occurred was incredible. We are so happy with the end product. The Haley Site Supervisor was personable, kind, and patient. He was knowledgeable about construction and managed the subs well. Haley Custom Homes constantly checked in with us to make sure that we understood the process and were happy with the results. They always encouraged us to take time to make the right decision, and to point out anything that we wanted changed. We are so happy with our incredible home”.

As we approach the colder months, I am often looking for health-boosting practices that also warm me up. I am a huge sauna fan, both infrared and wood-fired, as well as red light therapy, which offers additional benefits. Beem® Light Sauna, a new infrared studio in the RiNo neighborhood of Denver, offers a unique blend of infrared sauna and medical-grade light therapy.
Red light (typically 630–660 nm) works by penetrating the skin to activate mitochondria, increasing ATP (cell energy). This then helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production, improve skin tone and texture, speed up wound healing (useful after surgery, burns, or acne lesions), and reduce inflammation.
Infrared light (generally around 800–1000 nm) penetrates deeper tissues, improving circulation and reducing oxidative stress.
The main benefit of infrared is pain relief and inflammation reduction, and it is also used to improve recovery and enhance muscle repair. Some studies also suggest that it has benefits for focus and memory, can increase serotonin, and reduce neuroinflammation.
There is also some strong evidence that evening red light exposure may improve sleep quality and can help counteract blue-light exposure from screens. You can book single or social sessions at BeemLightSauna.com.
In addition to Beem, our beloved sauna friends from Portal continue to enjoy being in the Highlands behind Nuture and will be hosting a number of fun events throughout the winter at the Denver location. Ice bath Aficionados can now order custom cold plunges crafted in
signature Portal style for the home as well at PortalThermaculture.com
If you are up for a little drive, Puffin Sauna Club offers monthly memberships and single sessions in a lovely rural setting called the Yellow Barn. Book online at Puffinsauna.com
On the way up Boulder Canyon behind the historic Foot of the Mountain Motel, you will find Ember & Ice, also offering two wood-fired barrel saunas and access to icy cold Boulder Creek for the brave (and hot) at heart. Check their website for ongoing events, as well as a run club, breathwork, and yoga at EmberNIce.com
However and wherever you like to do it, there are a lot of excellent options to relax, sweat, and reset this winter.

Trends come and go, but jewelry is forever.
Jewelry that boosts your confidence, never tarnishes, and can be passed from generation to generation — that is the type of jewelry you want to adorn yourself with.
Denver-based Element 79 Contemporary
Jewelry was established eight years ago by longtime jeweler Carol Ferguson. The company’s marketing director and showroom manager, Christine Mulcahy, lays out her layering tips ahead of this upcoming holiday season so you can sparkle a bit brighter.
Christine recommends varying the length of three to four necklaces to avoid them getting tangled and to help curate a more refined visual. “I personally love four layers,” said Christine.
You want to alternate necklace lengths— begin with a shorter necklace around 15 inches (Christine loves a timeless diamond necklace) and
work your way up to a thicker, longer chain that can be adjusted to around 30 inches.
She also recommends differentiating chain styles and textures. “Combine delicate chains with chunkier links, paperclip styles, or gemstone strands. The contrast adds dimension and helps prevent tangling.”
Like with any good art form, there should be a focal point. Christine recommends selecting “one ‘hero’ piece—perhaps a meaningful pendant or a bold charm—and layer simpler designs around it. This gives the eye a clear place to rest and brings harmony to the look.”
However you choose to style your pieces, it is all about experimentation and what speaks to you most. Play with different types of metals, sizes, and gemstones to see what you can create that makes you feel most like you

When he’s not managing custom-home projects with Buildwell, Martin Brodsky is crafting essays about the art of paying attention. Allow Me To Waste Your Time is a collection of essays about staying grounded in a world designed to keep us scrolling.
The essays, first published on his Substack page, now form the heart of the book, which he describes as “a field guide for anyone trying to stay human in the algorithmic age.” His writing moves between humor and heartbreak, from reflections on getting divorced last year to the quiet, everyday moments that make life meaningful.
“It’s become increasingly important to me to talk about things that people shy away from… We try to hide certain truths about ourselves instead of just talking about them and connecting on that level… that’s something I’d like to change,” Brodsky says.
Beyond the content itself, the book is a way to reclaim attention in a world dominated by digital distraction.
“The online content machine has already buried these essays in 1s and 0s… This book gives them a tangible life beyond the endless scroll,” he explains, emphasizing the importance of slowing down and engaging with ideas.

ARTICLE BY EMILY O'BRIEN
Although Brodsky’s day job is in construction, writing has long been an integral part of his foundation.
“Writing feels like a compulsion,” he says. He started out with songs, then fiction, and eventually these essays that he describes as “an honest and ongoing quest for personal truth.”
A Boulder resident of twenty years, he says, “I enrolled at CU so I could move to Boulder.” His affection for the city is contagious. Lately, he’s been hosting monthly art meetups around town, gathering local writers, artists and makers to share ideas and community. And when he’s not doing that, he’s looking ahead.
“I want to publish the novel I’ve finished,” he says.
“And I’ve got a lot more yet to write.”
When asked what he hopes his younger self would think of the book, Brodsky laughs. “Hopefully, I’d want to get a beer with the guy who wrote it and have a good conversation.”
Allow Me To Waste Your Time is out now on Amazon via Petty Thief Press and arriving at local bookstores soon. Visit MartinBrodsky.com to learn more.
