July marks just over two years of Chattanooga City Lifestyle and I can't think of a better way to celebrate this incredible milestone than with our annual "Explore" issue. When my husband and I moved to Chattanooga fourteen years ago, we had no idea how much this city would enrich our lives. From unmatched outdoor exploration opportunities to elevated dining experiences, Chattanooga, our home, continues to enchant us. Summer is my favorite time to branch out and explore new destinations and revisit our tried and true staples.
This month, we bring you a host of places to explore. We give you a glimpse into Cloudland at McLemore Resort—Lookout Mountain’s elegant resort in a golf course setting. We catch up with our friends at Amada Tapas as they bring us a mouth-watering paella recipe sure to be a crowd-pleaser at your next summer get-together. We visit Dunya Camp, a glamorous and restorative getaway, located in Summerville, Georgia and we take you to one of the area's newest event venues, The Valley Venues, located in Wildwood, Georgia. This "The Notebook" inspired venue is just right for your next celebration. Finally, we take you north to Gatlinburg where we visit Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort & Water Park, Anakeesta, and The Greenbrier Restaurant, a perfect getaway for the whole family.
Also this month, we bid farewell to our current publisher, Amber Harris, as she embarks on a new professional journey. I can't thank her enough for all of the ways that she has worked to elevate this publication and for the many partnerships that she has cultivated during her time with Chattanooga City Lifestyle. While she will be greatly missed, Amber leaves behind a legacy of deep relational connection and elevated content.
As you explore this month's issue, we hope that you become acquainted with new places Chattanooga and its surrounding areas have to offer. Beyond that, though, we hope that our "Explore" issue inspires you to make the most of the longer days by getting out and spending time with those who mean the most to you. From this month's featured destinations to movie nights in Coolidge Park and music by the riverfront, no matter what you choose, there's no doubt that Chattanooga is full of endless summer adventure.
Cheers!

Cloudland at McLemore Resort is a destination above the rest. Lookout Mountain’s premier resort and hotel is now open to the public just in time for a summer staycation. Part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, Cloudland is nestled on the brow of Lookout Mountain and boasts 245 rooms. In addition to its unrivaled views, Cloudland offers luxury wellness and dining experiences unlike anything else in the area.
Selah Spa, an immersive relaxation oasis, encourages guests to pause, take a deep breath, rest, and regenerate energies. An occasion for reflection and a reset that engages the mind, body, and soul. Selah’s wellness experiences cannot be defined by expert treatments alone, but also by the sensory journey of relaxation and hydrotherapy lounges. From the moment you arrive and are guided from the spa entrance to the changing room, you will have an opportunity to quiet the mind, find calm, peace, and self-nurturing serenity, and enjoy the immersive experience. Featuring lifestyle staples such as a steam room, sauna, and cold deluge shower, this space was created to experience thermotherapy, a three-step relaxation ritual alternating between hot and cold temperatures followed by a period of rest.
Cloudland also features four diverse dining opportunities: upscale, French Country fusion at Auld Alliance; American fare with a twist at Croft; quick bites and coffee at The Pocket Café; and poolside treats overlooking the cove at Skyside. For an upscale, elevated evening, Auld Alliance is unlike anything the Chattanooga culinary community has seen before. Having a uniquely fascinating story behind the inspiration of their name, the Auld Alliance name was gathered from the native Scottish influence of the grounds the resort currently sits on.
Enjoy a front-row seat to nature’s masterpiece with a stay in a resort that honors the beauty and legacy of the land that surrounds it. The team at Cloudland believes in exceptional service with thoughtful attention to detail to provide you with one of the world’s most remarkable guest experiences.

Ready, Set, Relax. Tucked in the corner of West Georgia, Dunya Camp provides an oasis of timeless elegance waiting to be found. This glamping community is filled with tent bungalows that feature an artfully designed indoor space that captures the beauty of the outdoors and the luxury of a five-star resort experience. With a desire to find a quick escape from the hecticness of life, travelers will have multiple opportunities to unwind and find their “zen” moments to regain peace and balance. Upon your arrival, you will traverse a steep mountainside to gain access to the breathtaking views of the southernmost part of the Appalachian Mountains.
Breathe. One can feel the stress melting away upon arrival at the ultimate rest and relaxation destination. Each luxury tent includes a private three-hundred-sixty-degree view of the mountains and valleys, not to mention the sunsets and sunrises to revel in while sipping your favorite beverage or enjoying the quiet of being still. True relaxation would not be complete without a private wooden sauna and jacuzzi.
The outdoor amenities almost surpass the indoor glamping life…almost. Picture yourself in the movie “Out of Africa,” and upgrade yourself to a five-star tent experience that rivals most resorts. As you enter your happy place, a gorgeous king-size canopy bed and antique sitting area have been designed for every guest to feel at home. Hidden out of view are the spacious rain-head shower area and majestic soak tub that looks like it could erase every stress and worry. Around the corner is an immaculate tiny kitchen that is fully stocked with a countertop ice maker,
microwave, Nespresso coffee maker, and refrigerator. If anything is missing, it is intentional—there are no televisions or excessive digital noise to distract from true decompression while at Dunya Camp.
The owners, Sangeetha Ramkumar and her husband Saeid Kazerooni, dreamt of a place where they could escape from the hustle and bustle of Buckhead in Atlanta, thus creating a space for unadulterated peace. When Saeid suggested spending three nights camping in various natural parks, Sangeetha was hesitant. Saeid, an avid camper, thrived in the great outdoors. In contrast, Sangeetha had a background in hotels, specifically in design and branding, with over a decade of experience at IHG. The notion of tent camping was far from her comfort zone, but despite initial reservations, both agreed to try it. After all, stepping entirely outside one’s comfort zone can be exhilarating.
And exhilarating it was. Waking up early each morning to the sounds of birds and the breathtaking beauty of nature proved to be a transformative experience. The crisp, fresh air, serene landscapes, and simplicity of camp life offered a stark contrast to the fast-paced, technology-driven environment they were used to. It was a welcome and unforgettable change, leaving them feeling different in a positive way.
Upon returning from the trip, the couple reflected on their fantastic experience. During their discussions, the idea of glamping emerged as a potential project they could undertake together. While familiar with the concept of glamping, it had only been a significant consideration then. The more they researched it, the more convinced they became that it was the perfect project for them. Glamping combined the best of both worlds: Saeid’s love for camping and the outdoors and Sangeetha’s hotel design and branding expertise.
The need to fully remove ourselves from the burdens of life is what Dunya Camp provides. Guests who pack heavily, but end up wearing robes the entire time they are at Dunya begin to understand the importance of slowing down.
Listen to the birds. Quiet the mind. Have a soak in the hot tub under the stars. Connect with who you are without distractions. You, too, can take advantage of the self-care experiences and stunning healing beauty Dunya Camp has to offer. Dunya provides a vacation for the soul, not the ego. Visit dunyacamp.com or call to book a unique experience (404) 793-2650 and escape to a world away.

for Any Occasion
Less than 20 minutes south of Chattanooga awaits The Valley Venues Weddings & Events. Run by father-daughter duo Paul and Kobi Cummings, this picturesque property serves as the perfect backdrop for weddings, corporate and charity events, and all types of special occasions.
The property boasts four venues onsite including Davis Hall, The Valley, Lookout Deck, and the Magnolia House, each of which can be transformed for customized events. The onsite lodging options for up to 32 people also provide the opportunity to turn special occasions and events into days-long retreats.
“We give you as much of an all-inclusive feel as you want by offering anywhere from a la carte pricing to scalable packages,” Kobi explained. “We are always a full-property buyout, though, and having the entire property available provides the versatility of different venue options in different styles. For example, if you want a garden party kind of ceremony but still want that old southern elegance look, you can get pictures at the Magnolia House and have your ceremony on Lookout Deck.”
Kobi’s background in art, design, and themed entertainment allows her to customize and develop events that reflect the personalities and desires of each client. “It’s important to me that people don’t feel like every event at The Valley Venues looks exactly the same,” she said. “It is truly an honor to be chosen to be a part of someone’s wedding, special event, or celebration of life, and I want them to have a special event that feels completely like them each time.”
The Valley Venues, located in Wildwood, GA, celebrates love and joy as a safe space for all people. For more information and to begin planning your special event, visit thevalleyvenues.com . Also find @thevalleyvenues on Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok.

Songwriter’s Series at McLemore: Javier Colón
McLemore Club | 6:00 PM
Having been introduced to millions of TV viewers as the winner on the inaugural season of NBC’s The Voice, singer-songwriter-guitarist Colon is set to take his recording career to the next level with Gravity, his fourth album. Javier Colón has won the attention of an international fan base that’s embraced his personally-charged, acoustic-textured blend of pop, rock, and R&B.
Paella is a saffron-infused rice dish, originating from Spain’s Mediterranean coast.
Using a 10 inch-paella pan, we begin with a tomato base that includes onions, red peppers, and harissa (a hot chili pepper paste).
Next we add a saffron stock and bring this mixture to a boil before adding Calasparra rice.
Due to the nature of this highly absorbent rice, the temperature of the pan is key.
The trick is essentially: ten minutes of high heat, ten minutes of low heat, and a quick blast of high heat at the end. This creates the perfect socarrat (meaning “to scorch”)—a crispy golden rice layer that forms on the paella pan.
The dish is finished with your choice of shrimp and mussels or NY strip and chimichurri.
Amada Tapas offers paella every Thursday!
