What Does This Word Mean to You?
When you hear the word “investment,” you probably immediately think about money. I do! But there are so many things to invest in beyond just financial ventures. You can cheer on someone else, volunteer to help a cause, take classes to further your career, make time for a relationship, and more.
By definition, investment is the act of devoting time, effort, energy, or finances to a particular under taking with the expectation of a worthwhile result.
I am often asked why I became a journalist. That’s easy. It’s because I wanted to share people’s stories. I wanted to help the business owner share news of their startup, tell the story of a child helping someone else, shine a light on organizations helping others, and more. I wanted to be a voice that helped spread the word and fostered community connections. By doing those things, I was investing in my community.
How are you investing?
This month, we share stories of a woman who is investing in herself by creating her own business, a woman bringing her talents to the community as Chandler’s new artist-in-residence, a new fun destination, information on navigating your financial health, and more.
While investing in ourselves, relationships, community, and finances can look very different from person to person, the effort we put into these areas of our lives is made with the common goal of having a positive impact that yields results. In this issue, we wanted to share some of the ways that we can invest in our community, our finances, and with those who we love.
We hope you enjoy the issue!
Yours,

Cathy Carter is one of the best realtors in the valley! Her professionalism, passion and tenacity really shine throughout the experience. She had to do some of the work of the buyer’s inexperienced agent to close the sale of my house. A Gem
Sparked by Her Passions for Pretty Pieces, People, and Giving Back, Celebrated Jeweler Myranda North Molina Opens the Boutique Myranda Fine Jewelry
LOCAL LIMELIGHT | ARTS + CULTURE 16
Myranda North Molina was 12 when she made and sold her first pieces of jewelry, silver and vintage bead earrings along with a gold chain.
Ever since, the veteran jeweler and designer has honed her first love for all things precious and pretty into a successful career and reputation as one of the region’s best.
But after decades of being in every facet of the industry, Myranda found herself in new territory this year as a sole business owner when she opened Myranda Fine Jewelry, which has two locations.
“After I jumped off the cliff and realized I don’t have a parachute, I knew if I’m going to do it, it’s got to be done right,”
Myranda says. “As a woman entrepreneur, it takes serious mental strength to move out on your own.”
But being on her own never meant being alone. Myranda credits the team who has been with her for years and who continues to be by her side with her new venture, as well as the Chandler community that wholeheartedly supported her when her shop debuted in January.
“Their love and support have given me strength,” she says.
Myranda Fine Jewelry showcases her expertise in new, custom, and recreation of heirloom pieces, as well as her specialties, especially in bridal.
CONTINUED > 17 CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/CHANDLER APRIL 2024
All work is done by Myranda’s team. Each piece of jewelry is backed by a lifetime guarantee at no extra charge. Each piece also comes with a certified appraisal.
“We take so much pride in our product that we build it, and we back it,” she says.
Myranda is also launching her own line, Myranda Designs—a bridal collection, with both natural diamonds and laboratory diamonds. She also offers a vintage collection, which is something clients have been clamoring for.
Myranda has created a space where people can peruse and purchase exquisite pieces in a welcoming, non-stuffy environment. She proudly identifies as “a jeweler for everyone,” and whether dealing with a $400-$500 piece or one that extends into the high six figures, she ensures everyone gets the same VIP treatment.
The shop was immediately successful, with Myranda experiencing a greater response than ever.
“I never thought this could be possible,” she says.
Myranda’s calling was evident when she was just a child. She and her sister often played house at the Scottsdale home of her grandmother, who made clothing, owned a clothing store, and had a costume jewelry collection that Myranda loved.
“I’d pretend to be the jeweler. I told my sister, ‘No, you have to be the teacher or the banker,’” Myranda says with a laugh, referring to her sister Monica Soltero, who is, along with Hayden Schweitzer, her senior designers, head of operations, and her right and left hand.
Myranda learned from her grandmother how to make jewelry. She spent every dollar she had on beads, one of her earliest obsessions, and let her creativity flow.
As a kid, Myranda’s family struggled financially. Making jewelry and staying with her grandmother was a bright spot.
“When I went to live with my grandmother, it was a great escape to make something beautiful, and always create sunshine,” she says.
As a very young adult, Myranda also became interested in buying estate jewelry. A true people person at heart, this allows her to connect with others on a level that goes beyond how many dollars a piece can fetch.
The family of a woman who passed away was able to afford a nice funeral and cover medical costs because Myranda facilitated the sale of her jewelry.
Another client was left with two children and only $200 in her bank account after a divorce. She owned a beautiful and valuable ring and wanted to sell it to help generate income and approached
LOCAL LIMELIGHT | ARTS + CULTURE 18
several jewelers before finding Myranda. Instead of quickly eyeing the ring and offering a dollar figure, Myranda spent the next two hours getting to know her and helping her to focus on the positives in her life.
The conversation ended with Myranda paying top dollar for her ring, which amounted to 30% greater than the other jewelers the woman had seen. Today, the woman is happily married, and she and her new husband are dear friends and clients.
And on the occasions when a transaction isn’t a fit for Myranda, she does what she can to make it happen with another buyer.
“I don't want to take your item and make a buck. I want to know the situation and how I can help you,” Myranda says. “It’s one of my favorite things to do besides design.”
But just purchasing pieces from estates themselves aren’t the only investment for Myranda. She sees them as just the eye-catching surface of a deeper connection rooted in her passions for jewelry, people, and doing what she can to make lives better.
“Jewelry is just a part of it. We’re on your journey. The relationships are what means the most,” Myranda says. “When you put passion first and money second, you build a successful empire because you’re doing it for the right reasons.”
Myranda Fine Jewelry specializes in design, engagement rings, anniversary bands, wedding rings, earrings, bracelets, vintage, laboratory and natural diamonds, and all gemstones.
Myranda’s upbringing has sparked a desire to constantly give back. Since her opening in January, Myranda Fine Jewelry has given back a large percentage of her profits to several local nonprofits for their fundraising efforts. She is also chair of the Chandler Service Club debutante ball 2025 and serves as a mentor for young women.
“If I can do this, you can do this,” Myranda says of her message.

Chandler's New Artist-in-Residence on Her Show, Next Project, and Helping the Community
Ashli St. Armant is the playwright, composer, director and tour manager of the show NORTH: The Musical, which is currently on tour. She’s also the bandleader and vocalist of the group Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards, and author of the Audible Original mystery series Viva Durant. On top of all of that, she was recently named the new Artist-in-Residence for Chandler Center for the Arts, which is a three-year post. Oh, and this busy woman is also a PTA mom of two teenage boys with her wife, Pam Rocker.
YOU WERE JUST NAMED CHANDLER’S ARTIST-INRESIDENCE! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THAT?
I am so excited about this partnership! What has continued to wow me about Chandler Center for the Arts (CFA) and the City of Chandler are their dedication to engaging diverse communities through the arts, and the creative, expansive ways in which they do this.
For me, this residency is an opportunity to get the support I need to develop new work while learning about how to engage new audiences from this incredible community of artists and arts administrators.
And for the community of Chandler, I’m designing workshops and communal arts experiences for residents of all backgrounds to discover new ways of engaging with the arts, their own personal culture, and each other.
HOW DID THIS COME TO BE?
The leadership team of Chandler CFA approached me about the opportunity, and I said yes right away! The more time I spend in Chandler, the more I fall in love with it. The folks at Chandler CFA are incredibly supportive of my work and of me as a person. I’m excited to dream some big things with them.
OVER YOUR THREE-YEAR RESIDENCY, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE WAYS YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH THE RESIDENTS OF CHANDLER?
As I’ve developed my musical, NORTH, which is heavily steeped in Black American history and

culture, I’ve had the unexpected joy of developing a deep connection with my own personal ancestry. The discoveries I’ve made along this process have changed the way I think about myself, my culture, and the way I interact with others. It’s been really beautiful and life-changing.
Now I want to develop workshops and community events that help all people—not just artists—find meaningful ways to interact with arts and culture. In other words, how can we use folklore, music, and storytelling from our own communities as a catalyst for understanding ourselves and each other? My plan is to create opportunities that do just that.
Also, since the City of Chandler is chock-full of folk artists and creative young people, I’ll be engaging with community members to learn about their art-making processes, and to get feedback on the projects I’m currently working on.

“Chandler has been incredibly supportive of my work and was the only performing arts center to bring NORTH back for a second season.”
ANY PROJECTS YOU ARE MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
Yes! My next big project is Ordinary Folks. I’m doing a deep-dive into the canon of Black folktales and folklore from the 18th and 19th centuries to find eight to 10 stories. Then, I’m going to turn those stories into story-songs, and weave those songs together into a cohesive, interactive musical. This project will be supported by Chandler CFA as part of my residency, and will be directly tied to the community engagement I’m doing in Chandler.
YOUR SHOW, NORTH, WAS RECENTLY PERFORMED IN CHANDLER AS PART OF ITS NATIONAL TOUR. IT PREMIERED HERE LAST YEAR. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO SEE IT ON THE STAGE IN CHANDLER AGAIN?
It was thrilling! And a little intimidating. Haha! As I said, Chandler has been incredibly supportive of my work and was the only performing arts center to bring NORTH back for a second season—on their “big stage” this time! While I was reworking the script, designing new set pieces, and creating new costumes, I always had it in the back of my mind, “Will the audience in Chandler love this? I have to wow them!” I knew I had to get it right. I hope I did!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THE SHOW?
Several years ago, after a conversation with my sons about their experiences learning about Black history in school, I realized that their experience wasn’t much different from my own: The learning period was limited to February, they only learned about a

handful of people (Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman), and everything they’d learned about was steeped in trauma (slavery, segregation).
I realized there was an opportunity to tell the story of early Black Americans with more color and depth. And because I’m me, I decided to tell this story through a musical.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART OF THE SHOW?
When I see audience members allow themselves to laugh, dance along, and engage with characters set in the Southern United States circa 1850, this is proof to me that the audience has found themselves in these characters. And then I know I’ve done my job; I’ve made my ancestors feel seen.
BOOK, SHOW, OR SONG THAT HAS MOST INSPIRED YOU?
My biggest musical influences are Harry Belafonte and Ella Fitzgerald. I love the musicals The Color Purple, Fela!, and Once On This Island for their unique approaches to storytelling. And I love the world-building of Roald Dahl.
IN FIVE YEARS YOU HOPE TO BE …
The proud mama of a Broadway musical … and a Tony.
ONE THING WE’D BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I secretly aspire to be a beekeeper. :)
“I realized there was an opportunity to tell the story of early Black Americans with more color and depth.”

Andretti Indoor Karting & Games Opens in Chandler
“The team members help create experiences and memories for our guests that last a lifetime,” Hamann says.
As Edison “Eddie” Hamann, managing member of Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, notes, Andretti Chandler features high-speed electric Superkarts that drivers navigate through a professionally designed track.
The location offers four races: a 7-minute “adult” heat, a 7-minute “intermediate” heat, a 7-minute “junior race” heat, and a 5-minute “mini Mario Kart Race” heat. The rules and regulations for each option are detailed on the website.
From go-kart newbies to those who have plenty of racing under their belts, Hamann says the driving experience is sure to be thrilling and satisfying.
Andretti Chandler also features a large arcade filled with a wide selection of games, including classics and new releases.
People who prefer bowling to racing or gaming will enjoy the Spark Augmented Reality Duckpin Bowling,
and those who are in the mood for a rousing game of laser tag will appreciate the two-store laser tag arena.
Andretti Chandler also offers three virtual reality games: Hologate VR, Hyperdeck VR, and Limitless VR, along with a 7D Xperience Motion Theater.
Unlike some other entertainment venues that have an admission fee, Hamann says Andretti Chandler uses a “pay as you go” model; this means people only pay for the races and other attractions they wish to enjoy.
Memberships, which offer discounts on karting, arcade games, bowling, and more, are also available.
When hunger calls, guests can head over to the full restaurant located inside Andretti Chandler. The restaurant offers a variety of house-made and tasty favorites including “Shareables,” such as loaded nachos, Angus beef sliders, and fried mozzarella bites. The over-21 crowd can wash their meal down with an adult beverage from the full bar, including local craft beers and specialty cocktails. Mocktails—such as the cotton candy lemonade or strawberry lemonade—are also available.
Hamann says Chandler was the ideal choice for the new location.
“At Andretti, we are very intentional about the cities we choose to open new locations in. SALLY PUTNAM HELPS MANAGE TRANSITIONS
In life, transitions are inevitable. Whether it is becoming suddenly single, the daunting prospect of navigating life without a steady paycheck—either planned or unplanned—or the unexpected windfall of an inheritance, these pivotal moments can leave even the most financially savvy individuals feeling adrift. How you manage these moments can have a significant impact on your finances.
Sally Putnam, CFP® CDFA®, with NOW Financial ( NowFinancialAZ.com), has found purpose in aiding individuals through life’s difficult transitions. She understands the common threads that bind these disparate experiences. From the heartache of losing a spouse to the anxiety of uncertain financial futures, each journey is unique yet undeniably interconnected.
Above all, it’s essential to understand your financial needs.
Knowing your monthly expenses lays the foundations for informed decision-making and provides a sense of control in uncertain times. At the same time, evaluation of your savings and investments is important. Do you understand how your investments work? Do they fit your personal style? Are they meeting your needs? These are all critical things to consider.
Financial literacy is only one piece of the puzzle. It is equally important to find professionals who not only comprehend your financial goals, but also empathize with your fears and concerns. Whether that’s deciphering complex tax codes or maximizing your entitled benefits, a knowledgeable and compassionate advisor can provide invaluable guidance and peace of mind.
Navigating these transitions may seem overwhelming but you need not journey alone. If choosing a financial professional, search for those who seek to understand your financial well-being and understand your unique needs. Seek professionals with expertise, transparency, and a commitment to always act in your best interest. Look for credentials that align with your needs, such as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® practitioner, Certified Public Accountant, or Enrolled Agent for tax help.
In times of transition, remember that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but rather a catalyst for growth. Embrace the opportunity to seek assistance from those who understand your needs and champion your financial well-being. Together, you should be able to navigate life’s transitions with resilience, grace, and support.

Which Weight Loss Approach is Right for You?
Do I Qualify?
Individuals seeking a more tailored approach to weight management are ideal candidates for beginning a journey toward optimal wellbeing. If someone is struggling with stubborn weight gain despite adhering to proper diet and exercise, they may qualify for a weight management program. Those with ambitious weight loss goals could also find value in a personalized solution to support their wellness journey.
Appetite Regulation: Semaglutide
Originally utilized for over 15 years to treat diabetes, Semaglutide revealed an unexpected benefit: weight loss. By mimicking the body’s hormone that regulates blood sugar levels and appetite, Semaglutide reduces feelings of hunger, leading to decreased food intake and subsequent weight loss. It has proven particularly effective for individuals who have encountered difficulties with weight loss using other methods.
Fat Utilization & Appetite Regulation: Tirzepatide
Another innovative medical option is Tirzepatide, which activates two receptors via hormone stimulation. In addition to suppressing appetite, Tirzepatide regulates glucose and blood sugar levels while enhancing the body’s utilization of fat through increased energy expenditure. Tirzepatide’s multifaceted approach makes it a promising candidate for managing both obesity and type 2 diabetes effectively.
Increases Energy & Fat-burning: BioBoost
It is designed to provide an extra boost of energy, fat-burning, immunity support, and mental clarity through a blend of vitamins, minerals, and fat-metabolizing amino acids. BioBoost can help regulate sleep assisting with insomnia. Its core ingredients include Methionine Inositol Choline (MIC), also known as Lipotropic Injections, which target primary fatty deposits in the body to aid in fat release. Additionally, it contains essential B vitamins such as B6 and B12, which play crucial roles in energy metabolism, DNA synthesis, and nervous system health.
Benefits of Medical Weight Management
Under careful management by an experienced medical team that customizes dosage to individual needs, the benefits of medical weight management may include:
- Weight loss
- Increased energy levels
- Improved sleep quality
- Better blood pressure control
- Enhanced self-confidence
- Reduced joint pain

FROM HISTORIC TO MODERN AND QUAINT TO STYLISH, NEWPORT BEACH IS A DESTINATION FOR EVERYONE
TRAVEL JOURNAL | TRAVEL

Dolphins during a whalewatching excursion.
The airplane had barely reached cruising altitude before it began descending, and just shy of an hour after taking off from Phoenix Sky Harbor, I was touching down at John Wayne Airport in California. I strolled off the plane to a waiting car, and in less than 20 minutes, I was standing in the lobby of the recently remodeled and blissful VEA Newport Beach, A Marriott Resort & Spa.
The space was welcoming and serene. My room overlooked the pool, with the golf course and the sea beyond. When the sun set that evening, I was treated to a stunning view of a fiery sky reflected on the water, set against the gently rolling greens.
Newport Beach is a luxurious, charming seaside destination with picturesque views and 10 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own vibe. There’s the Airport District, Black Bay, Balboa Island, Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Village, Lido Marina/Cannery Village, Corona Del Mar, Fashion Island, Mariner’s Mile/Westcliff, and Newport Coast/Crystal Cove. As for what to do, it's plentiful, from hiking dramatic coastlines, to surfing and boating, to shopping and dining, to relaxing, and much, much more.
On my first day there, I headed to Lido Marina, a charming village located waterside. For lunch, I stopped at the farm-to-table restaurant Malibu Farm Lido Village, enjoying a view of the nearby ocean and many boats from the open-air interior while I dined on the burrata salad.
Afterward, I wandered through the area’s boutiques before returning to VEA.
The vibe took a high-energy turn with drinks and dinner at Pendry Hotel that night. This new Newport Beach destination is sleek and sophisticated, with cocktails and a dining experience to match. The bar was bustling, and SET Steak & Sushi served a truly stunning meal that tasted as exquisite as it looked (be

sure to order the unique Bluefin Tuna Pizza, made with red onion, shiso, shallot, ponzu aioli, and truffle oil!).
The next day, I headed to picturesque Balboa Island. Breakfast at Wilma’s Patio—family-owned and -operated there for over 35 years—was a perfect start to the day. After taking in some history at the Balboa Island Museum Newport Beach, I boarded the Balboa Island Ferry—a small ferry that has been providing continuous service since 1919. It covers a distance of about 800 feet, bringing its passengers to the historic old town harbor, where both kids and adults alike can ride the rides—including a Ferris wheel—at The Fun Zone at Balboa Village. There’s also shopping, dining, boats to rent, parasailing, bike rentals, and excursions such as whale watching.
Unable to resist the whale-watching opportunity, I joined an excursion from Newport Coastal Adventure. Tickets are available near the dock. While we didn’t spot whales this time, we were surrounded by hundreds of dolphins, all leaping and playing around our boat.
That night, I headed to Pamilla Cocina y Tequila, an elevated Sonoran- and Baja-inspired culinary hot spot. The food was delicious, and for those who like tequilas and mezcals, this spot features the most extensive selection in Orange County.
Although the trip was quick, Newport Beach, whether the quaint historic areas or the modern new hot spots, offers a restorative vibe that helps melt away any stress. Add in laying on the beach and it’s a perfect getaway.

CHANDLER RESIDENT DR. HEMANT PANDEY OPENS HIS HOME FOR A COLORFUL CELEBRATION
OUR TOWN | ARTS + CULTURE 42
Every March, for the last eight years, Dr. Hemant Pandey hosts a Holi celebration at his home.
“What started as an event primarily for the kids to help them understand the cultural roots has transformed into a large community event attended by over 300 people," he explains. “There are many parts of the country where Holi is not celebrated with vigor. The event at my home allows an opportunity for people from all corners of India to come together and discover the kid in them.”
At this celebration, incoming guests are doused with buckets of colored water. The slow movers are a target for kids, who practice their skills with balloons filled with colored water. The event culminates with Bollywood music and traditional Indian food.
“The event is not for the meek but rather the daredevils,” Dr. Pandey says.
Here, he tells us about this holiday.
Celebrated on a full moon day around the month of March, Holi is a color festival that defines good over evil. It is also tied to the timing of the rice harvest. As the crops and produce mature, they are harvested in February. The agrarian society celebrated the season of successful rice harvest with colors and food.
One popular legend surrounding Holi talks about Lord Krishna, an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, pulling a prank on his beloved Radha. Jealous of Radha’s fair
complexion, Krishna, who was dark-skinned, smeared her face with colored powder, Gulal , in a playful attempt to make her resemble him.
Over the years, Holi has become one of the most celebrated festivals in India and acts as an event that binds people together. The abandoned throw of colors paints the sky rainbow. The colors do not discriminate and stain all uniformly, be it of any race or status. It is the ultimate symbol of equality and brotherhood.
The concept of colors—Gulal—is borrowed from various sources, including dried turmeric, pomegranate, rose flowers, henna, and Indian berries. They symbolize various aspects of life: red for love and fertility, blue for Krishna, and green for new beginnings.
The entire nation, and now Indians across the globe, come together to celebrate the day as an event full of organic colors, water pistols, and food, and to mark the beginning of the year with joy. The night before, Holika Dahan , sets a symbolic effigy of exhausting your inner tendencies symbolized by the demon Holika. Good triumphs over evil.
The food scene includes Gujiya , a dumpling-like sweet filled with dried fruits and nuts spiced with cardamom. This is paired with a traditional drink called Bhang , which is a milk beverage mixed with cannabis leaves.
Happy Holi.

EMBRACING A PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR BODY
Wellness isn’t about restricting — it’s really about giving. Giving to yourself and to your body in a way that allows them both to thrive. The cool part? The things that give to your body naturally give to your mind, your hormones, your earth, your relationships, and so on — it’s all beautifully interconnected in that way.
Eat your greens, cook at home, choose local produce and quality meats, don’t be scared of healthy fats — but also support local farmers, move in a way that makes your body and mind feel good, prioritize times of mindfulness and stillness.
