LIFESTYLE LETTER

It's not just any style, it's Chamblee Style!

September 2025 PUBLISHER

Kevin Parker | kevin.parker@citylifestyle.com E D I TO R

September always feels like a season of fresh beginnings—a time to embrace new looks, new experiences, and new ways of expressing who we are. This month, our Style issue celebrates the many forms that style takes in our vibrant community, from the clothes we wear to the spaces we step into and even the moments we choose to capture and cherish forever. We start with a local treasure, Carrie’s Bridal Collection, where dreams of "the perfect dress" come to life every day. This Chamblee-based boutique is more than just a bridal shop—it’s a place where brides find a style that reflects, not only their big day, but also their personality, story, and spirit. Carrie's team makes it their mission to ensure that every bride walks out feeling confident, radiant, and uniquely herself. For the gentlemen, Hammer & Nails is bringing a new level of luxury and care to men’s grooming right here in our city. Soon to open, this boutique will be a space where style meets self-care, offering everything from sharp cuts to full grooming experiences designed to help men look and feel their best. We can’t wait to welcome this stylish new addition to Chamblee. Finally, we turn our lens toward family portraits, exploring how different styles—from timeless classics to bold, modern takes—help tell the stories of the people we hold closest. These captured moments, framed on our walls and in our hearts, remind us that style isn’t just about appearances—it’s about how we celebrate who we are and the ones we love. As always, thank you for reading and for letting Chamblee City Lifestyle be part of your everyday journey. Here’s to a September filled with style, substance, and the beauty of self-expression. CARRIE’S BRIDAL DESIGNS IS A BRIDE’S BEST FRIEND, OFFERING SIZE-INCLUSIVE ORIGINAL DESIGNS IN AN AFFORDABLE, OFF-THE-RACK BUSINESS MODEL.

Carrie's Bridal Collection has accessories for the big day.

Carrie’s Bridal Collection opened its doors in 2017, bringing inclusive, in-house bridal designs to Chamblee. These off-therack offerings are designed with making magical memories in mind. With sizes running the gamut from 00-31 and prices below $1800, this female-owned local bridal shop is truly for everyone. Walking in, you’re enveloped in a soft, wildflower scent while love songs play overhead and champagne is at the ready. A front cabinet showcases sparkling jewelry and accessories, perfect for your wedding day, rehearsal dinner, and even bachelorette events. Their stunning original gowns line the walls, a sensory wonderland of crisp crepe, dazzling lace, and everything in between, overflowing with bridal elegance. It’s a space dedicated to imbuing every bride with confidence. The ability to walk through the door with dreams of your perfect dress in your mind and to walk out with it in your hands is their daily mission. Each stylist strives for the fortuitous moment when a bride finds her dress, eyes shining, heart racing, and genuinely picturing herself at the altar. It’s a moment many of us dream of from childhood on. Wedding planning is a whirlwind, and Carrie’s Bridal Collection endeavors to be a refuge of luxurious serenity and pure excitement. In an oversaturated wedding industry, Carrie’s Bridal Collection stands apart. Variety is promised in the dress selection, with a wide range of silhouettes, necklines, and fabrics offered. One of the standouts of their business model is the ability to tailor any of their designs to the bride’s wishes. For example, if someone adores a certain dress but would prefer satin instead of lace, Carrie’s Bridal Collection can make that happen. This grants the opportunity for a custom dress without the custom price tag. CONTINUED >

Each gown is one of a kind - made only once in one size, ensuring absolute originality. The bridal industry is constantly changing, so their designs evolve with each season, while also maintaining classical designs dripping in timelessness. Their dresses are shown at America’s Mart Bridal Expo with every new line. Fall 2025 will be released soon! Founder and Owner Carrie Huyett began her journey at Winnie Couture Bridal, where she worked as their Sales and Operations Manager for five years. Her father, an entrepreneur in the trucking industry, flew out to China with her once she was ready to start her own company. There, they partnered with a factory and began wholesaling wedding dresses. Shortly after, a friend of Carrie’s was closing down her own shop and asked for some of Carrie’s dresses for an upcoming weekend sale. Afterward, she enthusiastically encouraged Carrie to open a brick-and-mortar store because all of her dresses sold out in one day! Carrie’s Bridal Collection opened in October of 2011 on Broad Street. Carrie, a Tucker High School graduate, grew up in the area and was drawn to opening her first shop in Chamblee, amidst the bustling business scene and where the close-knit, community feel of the Chamblee business is prevalent. Chamblee Tap and Market, across the street, offers 10% off coffee orders for Carrie’s Bridal Collection brides and their groups. That type of collective camaraderie filters into the loving, supportive vibes of the shop, where comfort and confidence can easily flourish. To help a bride find her ideal dress, it’s all about listening. Even when someone doesn’t have a clear vision in mind, tuning into what they don’t want is just as valuable. Being attentive and asking the right questions helps each stylist gain the knowledge they need to curate choices. Stylists handpick pieces like they’re putting together a puzzle; as each dress and element preferences comes to light (yes to a mermaid fit, no to a sweetheart neckline, etc.), the perfect dress eventually falls into place with ease. Kayla Lesane, social media marketing manager and bridal stylist, shares a story of a bride finding her dress, which stuck with her. The sweet woman came in on a Wednesday and was getting married that very Sunday. They had just gotten engaged and were planning a lightning-fast elopement in their backyard. She found her dream dress (a fitted, clean number with an open back, crisscross spaghetti straps, and minimal train) a mere four days before the wedding. She was surprised to find her dress in such a synchronistic way at her very first stop. It’s stories like this that have created Carrie’s Bridal Collection’s formidable reputation. Brides flock to the store, even from out of state, through word of mouth and their stellar social media presence. When it comes to something as personal as one’s wedding dress, authentic anecdotes cultivate a sense of trust, which helps maximize the shop’s impact. Dress to feel your best with the dazzling designs at Carrie’s Bridal Collection.

An ultra-luxurious destination for men’s self-care is coming to the heart of Chamblee. The newest iteration of Hammer & Nails, a franchise developed by screenwriter Michael Elliot, will be brought to life by DeMone Lee. The attorney, husband, and father of two has a deep belief in the importance of consistent hair, nail, and skin care for men.

Welcome to Hammer & Nails coming to Chamblee. Photo Courtesy of Hammer & Nails

“Hammer & Nails is all about putting a well-deserved pause on your life so you can take care of yourself.” Grooming instills confidence, and how one thinks of themselves, can improve mental wellness and work performance. In his experience as an attorney, DeMone says, “There’s no worse feeling than going into court and feeling like you don’t look your best.” That sense of self-consciousness and lack of confidence can impact one’s ability to perform at their highest abilities. Oftentimes, it can feel like we don’t have the space in our days to carve out time for this type of self-care.” Hammer & Nails is all about putting a well-deserved pause on your life so you can come in and take care

of yourself, because often, you’re busy taking care of everyone else. Offering haircuts, facials, manicures, pedicures, and premium shaves, “This is a moment to set aside just for you,” DeMone says, adding, “We want our guys to feel as good as they look when they leave here.” Growing up in Sarasota, back in its pre-tourist, small-town days, DeMone was deeply impacted by his childhood barber. A man called John Mizell cut his hair from the ages of 2 to 11, and the sense of comfort and familiarity was integral to his growing relationship with routine maintenance.

Hammer & Nails doesn’t seek to compete with your local barber; their mission is to bring you the type of luxe services and amenities that can’t be found in traditional barber shops. They offer three tiers of membership types, all designed to provide you with credits for services and various levels of discounts. Classic Club includes 30-minute treatments, Premium Club 45 minutes, and Club LUXE goes all out for 60 minutes of blissful pampering. Whichever tier of The Grooming Club one selects, a ton of savings will follow, including discounted retail and priority access to events. And speaking of events, DeMone has plans for health seminars hosted by prominent urologists and men’s mental health and wellness professionals, as well as the intention to cultivate a community space for professional entrepreneurs. As a member of the Dekalb County Chamber of Commerce, Hammer & Nails will also serve as a place to network while receiving their top-notch services. The deepest savings are available if you sign up for The Founding Membership before the October opening. Ultimately, even if you visit Hammer & Nails without a membership, the prices are reasonable for its phenomenally luxurious feel. These services, focused deeply on each individual’s experience, also serve as excellent birthday and holiday gifts for the men in your life. DeMone’s vision is strong, and he is primed to create a luxurious hub for men’s health and wellness. The new building, located in Manor Chamblee, is 2400 square feet of spa-like serenity. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by the member concierge alongside a built-in bar serving high-quality wellness drinks, soda, and high-quality cold brew straight from a nitro machine. Once Chamblee passes the ordinance, they intend to serve beer and wine as well.

“This is a moment to set aside just for you. We want our guys to feel as good as they look when they leave here.” —DeMone Lee of Hammer & Nails Chamblee

The hand and foot room is where you'll receive nail services with its six oversized plush chairs, noise-cancelling headphones, and 55-inch televisions directly above each chair. The cut and shave room has eight large barbering chairs, each with its own shampoo sink. And once you sit down, you don’t have to get back up until your service is complete. The artist will discuss your next steps afterward while walking you back to the concierge for your next booking. The entire team ensures you're booked to utilize your credits and to maximize your respective membership fee. And when going for the gold - Luxe services utilizes gold in their treatments, with the Luxe Cut featuring a 24K gold mask and the

Luxe Manicure and Pedicure sprinkling 24K gold dust in the sugar scrub. Other oils such as Lavender essential oils are also included in that treatment. The Premium Nail Combo allows you to have your manicure and pedicure done at the same time of over 90 minutes, featuring a (coconut) milk and honey service! There are even more infusions available, all tailored to providing maximum moisturization and exfoliation. “We pull out all the stops,” DeMone promises. Professional Family Photos Your style guide to make the most of your professional family photos ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANET HOWARD

We all love to see and even be a part of the fun in beautiful family photos. October through December is the peak time to gather family members for family photos. Family photos can be a great way to show how your family is growing, but they can also be stressful - especially when it comes to deciding what to wear. The right styling will not only elevate your portraits, but it can show off your individual style and personalities in a fun and festive way. No matter what you wear, these guidelines can help you plan for a low-stress, fun, family photo session. Plan ahead. If you plan to buy new clothes for your session, purchase them early enough to allow for possible delivery delays or in case you need to return items that don’t fit. Start to plan one to two months before your annual photo session. Check for fit. Many family photoshoots run late because of the last minute discovery that a planned outfit doesn’t fit. Do a trial run at least a week before the session to make sure everything not only looks good, but is comfortable to move around in without looking baggy. For kids, comfort beats looks. Nothing makes for a cranky child like shoes that are too small or clothes that are stiff or binding. If you want happy, relaxed photos, make sure clothes and shoes fit comfortably and allow for movement. Show your personality. If you’re a casual family, be casual. If you like to dress up, put on your holiday best. Whatever your style, be yourself. If you try to vary too far from the norm, small chil“It’s fun to gather and show dren can be uncomfortable how your family is growing...The and less likely to be relaxed and happy. right styling will not only elevate Janet Howard is a professional photographer who your portraits, it can show off lives and works in Chamblee personalities in a fun and festive and the surrounding areas. Coordinate, but you don’t have to match. Instead of matching exactly, modern family photos allow for a palette of color. Try starting with a neutral color like gray, beige, or blue, and adding two to three accent colors, including a range of hues.

Mix in patterns and textures with layers. Solid colors photograph well, and adding patterns and textures creates visual interest. Add textures with sweaters, vests, or scarves, hats, or ruffles. If you do incorporate patterns, try to do it in more than one place to avoid one person standing out.

Avoid small stripes, graphic tees, and neon colors. Small stripes can cause visual strain, and neon colors can reflect back on the skin to create a color cast.

Embrace the season and location. In the spring, light yellows, greens, blush, and dusty blues look great. In the fall, think mustard yellow, burnt orange and sage green. Winter calls for deep reds and greens, or icy blues.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 21 attend a Chamblee City Council meeting.

According to Great Rivers Council, only about 6% of eligible Scouts make it to the rank of Eagle Scout. For Troop 21 that meets at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Troop 21 has had a record number of its members reach the Eagle Scout Rank in the last three years with more to follow. Many of the Eagle Scouts started in the same Cub Scout Den under the leadership of Gregg Soha as Tiger Cubs in first grade, and they continued in scouting for 12 years, under the leadership of Peter Baljet and Bill Cox. Members of the troop come from Chamblee, Brookhaven and surrounding areas. "We do a good job at Troop 21 of supporting the scouts," says Bill Cox, the current Scout Master of the troop. "We frequently talk with them about what's your next step, what's your goal, and what are you working on as far as your rank and on your next merit badge." But when it comes to making Eagle Scout, Bill says the kids have to want to do it.

In meetings they discuss important ideas such as citizenship, values, and the twelve points of Scout Law that includes values and virtues like being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, kind and more. In addition to camping and other adventures, scouts learn life skills that aren't taught in school. The skills start out basic and age appropriate, and move to more advanced skills as the scouts grow in their abilities. Bill says the first ranks are focused on skills such as first aid, tying knots, water rescue, fire building, and the higher ranks focus on leadership. "The scouts learn to manage their own patrol," he says. "We like to say that our scout troop is scout led." Bill says younger members are motivated by the friendships they make and by seeing the older scouts reach their achievements. For more information, visit t21.trooptrack.com.

Investing in Your Wardrobe Without Compromising Your Style ARTICLE BY LISA WOLF

1. IT’S POSSIBLE TO SHOW YOUR UNIQUE STYLE WITH NICE CLOTHES WHILE ALSO STRETCHING YOUR DOLLAR One’s wardrobe says a lot about a person and it is important to dress to the occasion whether it be work or play while still expressing yourself. Building a wardrobe can be a costly expense but it’s possible to show your unique style with nice clothes while also stretching your dollar.

3. SOME PIECES ARE SIMPLY BETTER WHEN THEY ARE SECOND-HAND Some pieces are simply better when they are second-hand like worn denim and lived-in boots or leather that’s softened over time. Get creative and add touches to your old favorites with patches, embroidery, and even natural flower colors transferred to fabric. Grab your old t-shirts, family vintage fabrics, or lace, and pull it all together into something new and memorable. CONTINUED >

2. A FUN, SUSTAINABLE WAY TO BUILD A HIGH-QUALITY AND STYLISH WARDROBE Second-hand and vintage-style clothes are a fun, sustainable way to build a high-quality and stylish wardrobe without breaking the bank. Buying hand-made and second-hand also reduces the demand for new clothing production, which helps reduce waste and the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

5. SIMPLE, WILD, CLASSIC, COLORFUL; DON’T BE AFRAID TO SHOW YOUR STYLE The best way to keep your wardrobe fresh is to look for either trendy or classic new pieces and match them with your favorite vintage or second-hand pieces, like a new dress with your grandma’s old leather jacket or a recently purchased foundation piece with a skirt made from vintage fabrics. Simple, wild, classic, colorful; don’t be afraid to show your style and your financial fashion savvy at the same time.

4. IT WAS SO PERFECTLY HER AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS My sister, Haley, used an 1800s petticoat and blouse, salvaged Edwardian style Christening gowns and a tablecloth, and other fabrics to create the most amazing vintage-style wedding dress. It was so perfectly her and absolutely gorgeous.
