LIFESTYLE LETTER
Vision, Vibes & a Very Stylish City What is style? It’s not just what we wear or how we decorate, it’s how we carry ourselves. It’s how we show up, how we live, and how we leave a mark. And as I’ve learned through this magazine journey, it’s in everything, from the words we write to the partnerships we build. When Danielle VonFeldt, my amazing Publication Director, and I first started mapping out this Style Issue, we realized we had very different ideas of what “style” even meant. Danielle was thinking fashion: runways, wardrobes, statement earrings. I was thinking homes, florals, vibes. And you know what? We were both right. Because in this city, style shows up in all forms. From the bold business ads to the soulful editorial stories, every page in this issue reflects the personality and flavor of Centennial, our people, our spaces, our stories. Let me introduce you to a few of them. Patricia of Blue Sky Gallery was one of my earliest Centennial discoveries. I wandered into her gallery and left inspired. Her abstract work, her stories, her fearless expression...I was smitten. Her style? Pure passion. Dr. Karen of Avenira Optical? She's class and clarity all in one. Her boutique is one of the few independently owned optical galleries around, and she somehow makes eye care feel like a masterclass in confidence. Every time I visit, I leave a little wiser and a little more stylish. Then there’s Julie Jones of Paris Boutique Flowers. She doesn’t just create arrangements, she creates mood. Her florals filled my anniversary party with life, joy, and beauty. They owned the room. That’s the power of style: it lifts us, speaks for us, and sometimes, says what words can’t. And one story that really hit home this month? Streets at SouthGlenn. Local businesses there are working hard to bring the magic back and they’re succeeding. It’s a reminder that when we show up for our city, it shows up for us. Style is everywhere in Centennial. Keep it bold. Keep it local. Keep it stylish.

The volunteer Election Commission for Centennial organized the vote, giving residents the opportunity to decide if they wanted to form their own city. PATRICIA AARON’S IMMERSIVE ART SPACE BRINGS ENERGY, COLOR, AND COMMUNITY TO CENTENNIAL
CINNAMON BAY
AFRICAN QUEEN
In the heart of Centennial’s south metro corridor, nestled near the Museum of Outdoor Arts and Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre, a creative transformation is quietly taking place. Blue Sky IDEA Studio and Gallery is more than a working studio or exhibition venue, it’s a space where art, community, and curiosity intersect. Opened in 2022 by internationally recognized abstract artist Patricia Aaron, the gallery occupies a bright, modern space at 6412 S. Quebec Street in Greenwood Executive Park. After 25 years in a smaller Greenwood Village studio, Aaron expanded into this larger venue to accommodate her growing practice and to create a space for public engagement. Aaron is celebrated for her vibrant, emotionally resonant encaustic paintings—a centuries-old method using warm pigmented beeswax, oil stick, and ink. Fused onto custom wood panels, her work radiates bold color, fluidity, and a luminous texture that shifts with the light. Each piece is deeply personal CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/C E N T E N N I A L

yet widely relatable, inspired by memories, travel, nature, and urban landscapes. As much as her work is rooted in fine art, it also intersects beautifully with interior design. Aaron thoughtfully collaborates with clients to help them style their homes and offices, considering how her art can bring intention, emotion, and visual energy to a room. “Color is powerful,” she says. “It can change the way a space feels and how people connect to it.” Whether anchoring a living room with a statement piece or adding movement and vibrancy to a quiet hallway, Aaron’s encaustics become more than art— they become extensions of the homeowner’s personal style. With over a dozen artist residencies and an MFA from the University of Denver, Aaron’s work has been exhibited widely across the U.S. and abroad, and collected in museums, corporations, and private homes, from Iceland and Paris to Kobe, Japan. But Blue Sky IDEA Studio was never meant to be hers alone. Recognizing a gap in Centennial’s art scene, Aaron opened the gallery to other creatives, hosting artist talks, community meetups, and pop-up shows that showcase diverse voices and media. It has since become a cultural anchor in a growing neighborhood. Recent exhibitions include Layers of Time (May 2025), featuring ten artists from Denver and Chicago, and For the Love of Scotland (August 2025), a curated mix of ceramics, woodwork, tapestry, and paintings from Aaron’s travels abroad. This fall, from November 12-16, the gallery will present Natural Geometries, new work by three Denver artists, including sculpture, stainless steel paintings, abstract woodblocks, and drawings. Beyond the art on the walls, the gallery’s minimalist and inviting design makes it an ideal backdrop for intimate events—receptions, fundraisers, workshops, and creative gatherings. Aaron’s latest solo exhibition, Making Waves, opens September 26 at SPACE Gallery on Santa Fe Drive in Denver. On view through November 8, the show reflects on themes of time, transformation, and memory, adding yet another rich layer to her ever-evolving body of work. For anyone looking to style their home with depth, color, and soul, a visit to Blue Sky IDEA Studio offers more than inspiration, it’s a doorway to expression.

Walking into Avenira Optical Gallery isn’t your typical optical experience. With soothing colors, an elegant chandelier, and cheerful music, the boutique feels more like a luxury spa than a doctor’s office. But what truly sets this practice apart is the personalized, fashion-forward, and technology-rich approach of Dr. Karen Kuenning, the passionate optometrist and visionary behind Avenira. CONTINUED >

After more than two decades practicing in high-volume retail optometry settings, Dr. Kuenning knew there had to be a better way to serve her patients. “Eye exams are often rushed, leaving no time for real conversation or connection,” she shares. “I wanted to create a fantastic experience from start to finish.” And that’s exactly what she’s done at Avenira, which she opened in March 2020, just one week before the world shut down. From the outset, Dr. Kuenning structured Avenira to be intimate and intentional. Patients are scheduled one per hour, ensuring every appointment, whether an exam, a dry eye treatment, or a frame fitting, receives undivided attention. “Our time is valuable, and I want patients to feel seen, heard, and cared for,” she says. Beyond the thoughtful care model, Avenira boasts cutting-edge technology, including digital eye testing, precise optical measurements, and in-house lens edging, no dilation, no puff test, and often no need to send glasses away. But it’s the curated eyewear selection that truly makes this optical gallery stand out. Dr. Kuenning handpicks every frame from independent brands, supporting small businesses while offering styles you won’t find just anywhere. She’s also one of the only authorized Maui Jim dealers in the area, with high-end lines like Gucci, Vera Wang, and Scott Harris gracing her shelves. So, can eyewear be a fashion statement? “ABSOLUTELY!” she exclaims. “First and foremost, I want my patients to love their glasses.” Dr. Kuenning approaches styling like an art form, matching not only face shapes and complexions but also personalities, careers, and hobbies. “We talk about how you use your eyes. Whether you’re on screens all day, outdoors often, or switching between tasks, your glasses should be the best tools in your toolbox.” As for trends, bold and oversized frames are still hot, with young adults leading the charge. Rimless, drill-mount glasses are also making a sleek comeback, ideal for a minimalist look that makes your eyes the focal point. And while some men stick to “what they got last year,” Dr. Kuenning’s not afraid to push boundaries. “I always show them a few adventurous options. Sometimes their ‘fashion consultant’, aka their wife or daughter, chimes in, which helps!”

Timeless styles also hold their place. Oversized chunky sunglasses, classic tortoise and black prescription frames, and always-cool aviators remain wardrobe staples. But Dr. Kuenning encourages patients to break out of the “basic black frame” box. “Trying something bold can feel scary at first, it’s unfamiliar. But with a little time, it grows on you.” That philosophy paid off in one of her favorite patient stories, a woman in a wheelchair who’d survived a stroke decades ago. “She used to wear very conservative frames,” Dr. Kuenning recalls. “One year, we picked out bright red glasses to match her vibrant personality. She absolutely beamed! Now, every year, I make sure to have red frames waiting for her.” What patients often don’t realize is how dramatically the right eyewear can elevate their entire look. “Your eyes are one of the first things people notice,” she says. “A great pair of glasses isn’t just functional, it’s a statement piece that boosts confidence, personality, and style.” That’s why
Dr. Kuenning takes the time to ensure each patient leaves with frames that truly reflect who they are. To stay on the cutting edge of both fashion and medical innovation, Dr. Kuenning regularly attends Vision Expo, as well as an annual optometry-only medical conference to stay current on clinical advancements in her field. “Clear vision begins with healthy eyes,” she says. She also meets quarterly with brand reps to preview upcoming releases and global trends. “It’s how I keep Avenira fresh, relevant, and full of beautiful surprises.” If you’re ready to experience personalized, stylish, and high-tech eye care, book your visit to Avenira Optical Gallery today. Whether you’re due for an eye exam or simply want to refresh your look with designer frames, Dr. Kuenning and her team are here to help you see clearly, and look amazing doing it. HOW HAUTE COUTURE BLOOMS BRING ELEGANCE TO EVERYDAY SPACES. ARTICLE BY DANIELLE VONFELDT PHOTOGRAPHY BY MY PARIS PORTRAITS & ERIN JONES
When Julie Jones of Paris Bouquets traded corporate life for the cobblestone charm of Paris, she wasn’t just seeking beauty, she was reclaiming joy. After surviving a life-threatening kidney disease and receiving a successful transplant, Julie took a brave step toward healing: she moved to Paris for a year to reconnect with herself and her creativity. That transformative experience now shapes everything she does as a floral artist. “In Paris, I learned to slow down, savor life, and embrace natural beauty,” Julie shares. “Parisians have this

effortless elegance that carries over into their florals, it’s never overdone. Flowers should look like you just gathered them from the garden and let them speak for themselves.” Today, her designs reflect that signature French sensibility: relaxed, organic, and artfully unpolished. Each arrangement feels like a breath of fresh air, timeless yet modern, luxurious yet grounded. With a background designing for high-style brands like Estée Lauder and Roche Bobois, Julie brings a couture mindset to every bouquet. “I always start by visiting the space,” she explains. “I want to understand the client’s personal style, what inspires them. My role is to interpret that and elevate it through flowers.” Whether for a home, a boutique, or a private event, Julie’s work is rooted in intentionality. She’s passionate about encouraging people to see flowers not just as decoration, but as an essential part of daily life. “In Paris, I made it a mission to buy myself a bouquet every week. It became a ritual, one that lifted my spirit, brightened my space, and reminded me to live in the moment.” At Paris Bouquets, no two arrangements are the same. Julie avoids dyed or synthetic materials and uses only the highest-grade blooms available. She’s also committed to sustainable design, partnering with the Colorado Green Business Network to find alternatives to traditional floral foam and plastic-based supplies. Her aesthetic? Natural. Relaxed. Beautiful. Inspired by the Impressionists and Dutch still-life painters, Julie often weaves in fruits, herbs, and unexpected textures, creating floral stories that feel like works of art. It’s not uncommon for clients to become emotional during the design process. “Flowers evoke memories, places, and emotions,” Julie says. “When we land on the perfect arrangement, it’s not just pretty, it’s personal.” Julie also reminds clients to consider the experience beyond the arrangement itself. “From the scent that greets you at the door to

STYLE OF SOUTHGLENN Streets at SouthGlenn has long been considered the diamond of Centennial, a place where style meets function, and community life hums between cafés, boutiques, and tree-lined walkways. Designed as a mixed-use destination, it blends shopping, dining, entertainment, and residences—all anchored by familiar names like Whole Foods and Snooze. But for many, that’s where the visit ends. The deeper charm of SouthGlenn, the quiet movie theater, the public library, the small local businesses just beyond the main promenade often goes unnoticed. Lately, though, something new is taking root. A creative current is pulsing through the space, reshaping its rhythm and revealing layers that were always there... just waiting to be seen. Once-blank walls now showcase bold murals. Vacant storefronts are transforming into pop-up canvases. From window installations to exterior wall art, the visual shift is impossible to ignore. In August, Dancing in the Streets concerts, yoga in the park, and bursts of community energy brought new life to familiar corners. And on September 13th, the sidewalks will come alive again, this time with chalk art, vendor tents, and community expression in full color. CONTINUED >

These aren’t one-time events. They’re part of a broader movement: a grassroots wave of style in motion, led by the local businesses working handin-hand with center management, embraced by the community, and uplifted by the Centennial Arts & Cultural Foundation through support, storytelling, and volunteer energy. Independent businesses like SoSu Artist Collective, Artworks, and Wanna B Witchy are among those helping lead the charge, infusing the district with personality, creativity, and purpose. Together with others, these shops are redefining what it means to experience SouthGlenn, not as a shopping center, but as a vibrant cultural hub. One of the most striking expressions of this shift was Mural Fest, held on August 2nd, when four local artists—Chris Haven, Shannon Powers, Moe Gram, and Sandra Fettingis, transformed the blank façade of the former Macy’s into a bold, open-air gallery. Brushstroke by brushstroke, stories began to emerge. The walls came alive with movement, texture, and meaning. The murals weren’t just painted, they were felt. They spoke of identity, energy, and place. And for many who passed by, it may have been the first time they truly saw SouthGlenn again. Visitors lingered longer that week, wandering past the art, stumbling into small shops, grabbing lunch nearby, and rediscovering what had always been here, quietly waiting to be noticed. You can feel the shift when you’re there. Music drifts from Commons Park. Chalk outlines trail across sidewalks like temporary breadcrumbs. Families linger on benches with ice cream, while a breeze rustles through the trees overhead. Around every corner, there’s something unexpected—an open sign in a tuckedaway shop, the smell of something sweet, the hum of conversation between shop owners and neighbors. It’s these small moments that are slowly stitching SouthGlenn back together—not through major announcements or sweeping change, but through presence, creativity, and a growing sense of community. What’s unfolding at SouthGlenn isn’t just revitalization, it’s reimagination. One mural. One chalk drawing. One small business at a time. A new identity is rising from familiar streets, layered in creativity, built by community, and stitched together by those who still believe in the heart of Centennial. Pause. Look past the obvious. And you’ll see it too: style, culture, and connection—in motion.

this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.

Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives. In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests
feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory. Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes. The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.
