Who Raised You?
There's something different about raising boys. I raise two of them on my own. Life handed us something we never planned for. Seven years ago, I lost my husband, their father. And just like that, our world shifted into something none of us were prepared for.
You stop asking why pretty quickly. You start figuring out how to move forward.
And that's what this has been. Learning how to raise boys into men in real time, while also learning what kind of men they're already becoming.

They learned real quick that being pitied is a form of judgment. They already understand, in their own way, what they're missing. We've walked through that together. This isn't about replacing anything. It's about building something.
So I find myself paying attention to the men I come across every day.
Sometimes I walk away thinking… who raised you? And other times I catch myself thinking… wow, who raised you? Because there is a difference. A real one. You feel it in how someone carries themselves. In how they treat people. In how they show up when things aren't easy and no one is watching.
That's what I think about when I think about the kind of men I hope my boys become. Not perfect, but grounded. Strong, but kind. Smart, but willing to ask for help. Confident enough to lead, humble enough to listen.
Men who don't walk away from hard things. Who carry weight, fix what's broken, and figure it out anyway. Men who are curious, who build, who explore. And most importantly, men who know how to treat people.
Because at the end of the day, that's what it comes down to.
This issue highlights men in our community doing exactly that. Billy Gieck, building a roofing company into something that mentors others. Jeff Keener, leading the South Metro Chamber with purpose. Chris Tyrell, running a business while making real impact in the nonprofit world. Sheriff Tyler Brown, carrying the weight of an entire county with steadiness. Tim Oddo, helping families rewrite their retirement. Matt Patrick of Southern Steer, rooted deeply in this community.
These are the men I pay attention to.
Because those are the examples my boys are growing up around. And that matters more than I can put into words.

Your Home. Your Retirement. Your Terms.
Tim Oddo is helping Centennial homeowners discover the untapped financial power already inside their homes
In Centennial, people are not leaving. They are staying. With home values rising and longtime residents choosing to remain in place, the conversation is no longer just about real estate. It is about what comes next.
Reverse mortgages have long been one of the most misunderstood financial tools available to retirees. For Tim Oddo, from the Oddo Group - Luminate Bank, that misunderstanding is exactly why he does what he does.
With more than two decades in the mortgage industry, Tim has built his career on one principle: put people first and find solutions that improve their lives. Over the years, he noticed a common challenge among homeowners nearing retirement. Many had built substantial wealth in their homes but did not fully understand how to access it. That realization led him to specialize in reverse mortgages, helping seniors unlock the value of what is often their largest asset.
“We are seeing a shift,” Tim says. “People want to stay in their homes longer, maintain their lifestyle, and have more control over their finances. Reverse mortgages can help bridge that gap.”
When asked about the biggest misconception he hears, Tim answers immediately.
“People think the bank owns your home. That is simply not true. You retain ownership just like with any other mortgage. Modern reverse mortgages are highly regulated and
ARTICLE BY MEGAN DELAROSA PHOTOGRAPHY BY PINK POPPY MEDIA
designed with strong consumer protections. When used correctly, they are a planning tool, not a last resort.”
Reverse lending, Tim explains, has evolved into a more strategic option for retirees. A reverse mortgage allows homeowners age 62 and older to access a portion of the equity in their primary residence as tax-free cash, without taking on a monthly mortgage payment. Funds can be structured as a lump sum, a line of credit, or monthly payments and can be used however the homeowner chooses. Some use the funds to pay off an existing mortgage, cover healthcare costs, or simply create more financial flexibility. Property taxes, insurance, and maintenance remain the homeowner’s responsibility.
For Tim, the real impact goes beyond the numbers.
“What I see most is peace of mind,” he says. “When that monthly pressure is gone, everything changes. It creates financial ease while allowing people to remain in the home they love.”

Families often ask what happens to the home when the homeowner passes away. Tim says this is where education matters most. Heirs have options. They can sell the home, refinance the balance, or pay it off with other assets. Federally insured reverse mortgages also ensure that neither the homeowner nor their heirs owe more than the home is worth.
“For many families, it actually creates flexibility,” Tim says. “It gives children time and options rather than pressure.”
This structure can also ease the financial burden many adult children quietly carry. Without a required monthly mortgage payment during retirement, parents are often less likely to rely on family support later in life, allowing both generations to plan with greater independence.

At its core, Tim says the conversation is about more than finances.
“This is not about getting by. It is about living well, with intention. It is about creating options.”

For Centennial homeowners, the opportunity can be significant. Home values across the area have appreciated considerably, meaning many longtime residents are sitting on substantial untapped equity. A reverse mortgage offers a way to access that value without selling, downsizing, or leaving the neighborhood they love.
The first step, Tim says, is simply a conversation, one that brings clarity not only for homeowners, but for the families planning alongside them. https://nomonthlymortgage.com/

COMMANDING WITH CARE

BROWN'S APPROACH TO LEADERSHIP IN LAW ENFORCEMENT
In Sheriff Tyler Brown’s world, the badge is only part of the story. Beneath it is a husband, a father, a longtime community member and a leader who sees his role not as a position of power, but as one of stewardship.
Brown didn’t grow up certain he would wear a uniform. “The decision for law enforcement came after I graduated college,” he explains. With a degree in political science and an initial plan to attend law school, his path shifted as he reconsidered how he wanted to make an impact. Inspired in part by the officers he knew growing up, he pursued law enforcement, eventually joining the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Academy.
From there, his career evolved steadily from patrolman to candidate to elected sheriff. His first campaign in 2014 was unsuccessful, but it didn’t deter him. “I went back to being a patrolman,” he says. Four years later, he ran again—and won. Now in his second term, Brown reflects on what has driven him all along: “Being part of something bigger than myself… that’s what drew me to public service.”
That sense of purpose is rooted in something deeply personal. “Stewardship is something my parents taught me at a very young age,” he says. “Always leave things better than you found them.” It’s a philosophy that threads through every aspect of his work, from public safety to internal culture. “Not only can I make our community a better, safer place,” he adds, “but I can also leave my agency in a better place.”
For Brown, the title of sheriff carries a weight that extends far beyond its definition. “It means providing a great place for individuals to come and work,” he says, “one that upholds all the professional standards of a modern law enforcement agency.” That includes innovation, accountability, and compassion: qualities

SHERIFF
he believes are essential to maintaining public trust. “It’s about the legacy of the sheriff’s office,” he continues. “The groundwork I’m laying for those who come after me.”
Leadership, particularly in law enforcement, often unfolds under pressure. Brown approaches it through the lens of service. “It comes down to servant leadership,” he says. “How do I use this position to affect the most positive change for the people who work for me and the people who rely on our services?” For him, leadership isn’t about authority, it’s about responsibility.
Still, he’s quick to point out that one of the biggest misconceptions about his role is the uniform itself. “People forget that first and foremost, I’m a husband, I’m a father,” he says. “I don’t make decisions in a vacuum.” Behind every policy decision or public statement is a person balancing multiple roles, all deeply connected to the same community he serves.
Staying grounded, he admits, comes down to perspective and a bit of humor. “I live at Kim’s house,” he jokes, referring to his wife. “She lets me stay there.” It’s a line he repeats with a smile, but the sentiment behind it is real. “At the end of the day, I’m Tyler. I grew up here. My commitment is to my family and my community, and that’s what this job is about.” He also keeps in mind the temporary nature of his role. “The max I get to do this is 12 years,” he says. “It’s a short amount of time.”
Over the course of his career, certain moments have stayed with him. One early call, in particular, involved a dangerous situation where children were at risk. "Myself and my partners were able to get inside," he recalls, "and get firefighters in there to save the kids." Both children survived. "It showed me you can rely on your training and truly make a difference in someone's life," he says. "Those kids are alive because people acted quickly."
Beyond emergency response, much of Brown’s work happens out of public view. “I spend a lot of time reading legislation, reading policy,” he explains. “Being a voice for the community when they’re busy living their lives.” It’s a quieter form of service, but one he sees as equally critical.
When he’s not in uniform, Brown’s priorities are clear. “Family time is the biggest thing I value,” he says. Whether it’s traveling during school breaks with his wife, a teacher, or spending weekends at his children’s activities, those moments keep him connected. “I’m usually either at a dance competition or in a basketball gym,” he says. “That’s what life is about, supporting your kids.”
Looking ahead, his vision for the future is simple, but meaningful. “I want people to say I left it better than I found it,” he says.

"BEING PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THAN MYSELF — THAT'S WHAT DREW ME TO PUBLIC SERVICE."

Building More Than Roofs: Billy Gieck
As the owner of Roof Geeks, Billy Gieck has built a reputation around reliability, professionalism, and customer trust. These are qualities that matter deeply in the area’s roofing industry. Beyond the business itself, those who know Gieck describe someone who values relationships just as much as results.
Like many entrepreneurs, Billy understands the demands that come with running a growing company. Roofing is an industry that requires quick problem-solving, adaptability, and long hours, especially in a state where unpredictable weather can quickly create urgent needs for homeowners. Yet even amid those demands, Billy has continued to prioritize community connection and personal growth.
Now entering a new season of life as a new father, Billy’s perspective has evolved in meaningful ways. Fatherhood often changes the lens through which people view success, leadership, and legacy, and for Billy, that transition appears to be adding even greater purpose to the work he does both professionally and personally.
Part of the Colorado Roofing Association, Roof Geeks has become known for transparency and craftsmanship, and as first-time dad, Billy represents a growing generation of local leaders redefining what success looks like: building thriving businesses while remaining deeply rooted in family and community.

Connecting Business and Community: Jeff Keener
As President and CEO of the South Metro Denver Chamber, Jeff Keener plays a central role in supporting businesses, fostering partnerships, and helping shape the economic future of the South Metro region.
Since stepping into the role in 2020, Jeff has helped expand the chamber’s regional influence while strengthening relationships among entrepreneurs, corporations, nonprofits, and civic leaders throughout Colorado. Under his leadership, the organization has continued creating opportunities for collaboration and growth in an increasingly fast-moving business world.
“Being part of the Chamber Team, engaging new people and our community daily. Exposing and educating more people outside of our region on the businesses and community in the south metro Denver region. Being able to thrive and grow in multiple different areas after the COVID challenges,” says Jeff.
Jeff’s roots in community leadership stretch back decades. Before joining the chamber, he served on the Breckenridge Town Council and on the Board of Directors for Colorado Ski Country USA. He has also volunteered extensively in youth sports and community organizations over the years.
Outside the office, you can catch Jeff enjoying time with the special people in his life.
“I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, grandkids, and friends. Travel (Anywhere) when possible, music, concerts, golf, cycling, skiing, cooking and of course following our Colorado sports teams.” said Jeff.
In many ways, Jeff’s work sits at the intersection of business and community life. His leadership reflects the idea that local economies are strongest when people work together toward a shared vision for the future.

Service at the Center: Chris Tyrrell
For Chris Tyrrell, business success and community impact have never been separate goals. As founder of Chris' Garage Doors, Chris has built a company centered around customer service and giving back in meaningful ways throughout Colorado.
Since launching the company in 2017, Chris has emphasized ethics, integrity, and service as foundational values. His company donates a portion of its revenue to local nonprofits and regularly partners with organizations supporting families, individuals with disabilities, youth mental health initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
That commitment has not gone unnoticed. Chris' Garage Doors was recently recognized as the 2024 Small Business of the Year by the South Metro Denver Chamber, while Chris himself earned recognition through Denver Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” program.
According to Chris, “Philanthropy for me is rooted in my faith. I believe we are called to give, not just out of abundance, but sacrificially. There’s a story in the Bible where Jesus points out a woman who gives two small coins. It was likely the smallest donation anyone gave, but he highlighted it because she gave everything she had. That perspective has always stayed with me. It’s easy to give a little when things are going well. It’s much harder to give meaningfully when it costs you something. I’ve always believed that the purpose of business is to make our community better. If I can’t build a company that contributes to that in a real way, then I don’t think I should be in business.”
Whether supporting nonprofits, investing in employees, or simply helping homeowners during stressful situations, Chris believes business owners have an opportunity to positively influence the communities around them.

Fire Up the Backyard
Southern
Steer Butcher has everything you need for the perfect backyard BBQ experience.
Throughout American history, the neighborhood butcher was the place to go, even if just to hang out on the street corner in front of the shop. Everyone knew the neighborhood butcher, and everyone knew that the butcher had the best-kept secrets for the freshest meats, the best cuts, and optimal preparation methods to make dinner time a rousing success.
Somewhere along the way that got lost. Convenience took over, pre-packaged meat became the norm, and the personal touch quietly disappeared.
Well, it's back. And it's right here.
Their meats are premium, sustainably sourced, and miles beyond what you'll find sitting under fluorescent lights at the grocery store. And through their Project 52 program, they're just as invested in the neighborhood off the clock, supporting local schools, sports teams, and community events year-round.
And if you're hosting this summer, this is your cheat code. From signature marinated steak tips to premium hand-cut steaks and readyto-serve sides, they've made backyard BBQ season effortless. One stop, in and out in ten minutes, and suddenly you look like the grill master of the neighborhood.
Fire up the grill. They've already done the hard part.

The neighborhood butcher is back, and Southern Steer is doing it right. Premium cuts, real expertise, and a team that genuinely cares what ends up on your table. Everything you need for a backyard BBQ worth remembering.
Where it all Starts
Southern Steer Butcher is the newest addition to the neighborhood and already one of the best. Passionate about great food and even better experiences, they're bringing back everything that made the local butcher special in the first place. Stop in, meet the team, and walk out completely ready to host. Swing by and taste the Southern Steer difference for yourself.

From Butcher to Skewer The Star of the Grill
Southern Steer's signature marinated steak tips are heaven to slice and skewer. Using a unique vacuum-tumbling process, each 5-6 oz steak tip is fully tenderized and infused with flavor from the inside out, long before it hits the grill. Thread them up with fresh vegetables and you've got a kabob that looks impressive and tastes even better. The difference shows in every bite.
Every great BBQ needs a centerpiece, and Southern Steer delivers. Their premium beef cuts are sustainably sourced, hand-selected, and cut by butchers who know their craft. Whether you're a ribeye person, a sirloin fan, or trying something new, their team matches you with the right cut and best way to cook it. Less like shopping, more like a consultation.

Complete the Table
The sides matter just as much. Southern Steer makes it easy to pull together an entire spread without spending your whole day prepping. From stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped asparagus, and their famous mac and cheese to appetizers that pair perfectly with whatever's on the grill, they've already done the hard part. The kind of food people keep talking about long after everyone's gone home.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short
Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When in all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:
MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
