INTRODUCING 1876 COUNTRY CLUB
ARTICLE BY SHARLA DAVENPORT | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF CENTURION AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT GROUP
Luxury generally refers to experiences or lifestyles that are considered high-quality, elegant, and often associated with comfort, refinement, and class. Nothing aligns better with this definition than Celina’s very own 1876 Country Club, located in the heart of the Legacy Hills development.
LOCAL LIMELIGHT | REAL ESTATE
LUXURY MEETS LEISURE ON THE GOLF COURSE IN LEGACY HILLS
20
While North Texas has no shortage of places to play golf, none will personify luxury more than this oneof-a-kind, upscale country club. In addition to an exceptional golfing experience, the club will also offer tennis, swimming, fine dining and exclusive social events.
Because of Celina’s rich history, Centurion American Development Group engaged Native Texan and renowned golf course designer, Lee Singletary, to design the 18-hole course. It will be next to the Little Elm Creek and its tributaries, with beautiful trees like Live Oak and Cedar Elm throughout the grounds. It will consist of a driving range, practice facility and short-game area. The Championship tees will play 7,337 yards and include five sets of tees for each hole, allowing for an assortment of handicaps. The course grasses are made of TifEagle Bermuda and TifTuf Bermuda on the tees, fairways, and roughs.
Following the opening of the golf course, a lavish, full-service clubhouse facility with a state-of-the-art exercise area, men’s and women’s locker rooms plus saunas, a group fitness gym and private member rooms will be developed. Both fine and casual dining opportunities will be available at the property to suit all occasions.
While 1876 is tentatively scheduled to open in November 2024, now is the time to obtain Founding Memberships. A very limited number of highly sought memberships are currently available to individuals and businesses. Benefits include preferred access to tee times, partial rebates of initiation fees and private events. Presently only golf memberships are available, but eventually, the club will offer tennis and social club memberships. Sandy Lewis, Director of Sales, Operations and

Membership states the memberships have been in high demand and will sell quickly. “We’ve already had amazing interest,” notes Lewis. “Since Centurion American broke ground on the Legacy Hills development in April 2022, we’ve had inquiries from people enthusiastic about the potential for this beautiful golf facility.”
Centurion American designed the deluxe country club to celebrate Celina’s history while maintaining a sophisticated, modern resort ambiance. Named after the year Celina was founded, “1876 will offer Celina and surrounding areas a truly unique and special place to gather unlike any place in North Texas,” said Mehrdad Moayedi, CEO of Centurion American. “It will be the central hub for the Legacy Hills development.”
Legacy Hills is located near the intersection of Legacy Drive and Celina Parkway, near the future extension of Dallas
North Tollway. The development has an array of onsite amenities including walking trails, numerous amenity centers, potential Celina ISD schools, plus a first responder station. Mehrdad Moayedi states, “Legacy Hills offers something for everyone seeking the experience of living in Celina.” Also noteworthy, a sports park comprised of 27 acres of land donated to the City of Celina from Centurion American is planned which will pass through the center of the development and the 1876 Country Club.
If you are interested in a Founding Membership, contact Sandy Lewis at sandy@1876countryclub.com or 214-458-5501 for more information about this fabulous opportunity.

DREAM HOME
As a successful real estate agent for 18 years, Lori Vaden West has helped countless families find their dream homes. Two years ago, Lori had the opportunity to turn her home design dreams into a reality for her own family.
Lori shared that, “when you work in real estate you see features you like, and it makes you want to incorporate those into your own home.” A lover of design, Lori would collect inspiration from the different properties she saw while working with clients.
After finding the perfect oversized greenbelt creek lot in a beautiful McKinney cu-de-sac, Lori had a vision of a Modern Hill Country house surrounded by nature. Pulling together her favorite designs with a goal to make it her forever home, Lori's modern home with a sophisticated country flair was built.
Driving up you are greeted with a sprawling single-story home. The front lawn is landscaped with raised planters, ornamental trees, and a fountain to welcome you to beautiful double metal and glass front doors. Entering the home, you are greeted with the perfect mix of sophisticated design and cozy comfort. She took her time with each detail making sure it was right, seeing the home as a work of art.

OPEN HOUSE | HOME + DESIGN 28
This home has a calming sense of peace about it. Each room flows together with a nod to creamy whites, taupes and blues with under tones of aegean and jade. Unique brushed brass light fixtures and hardware extend throughout the home. But this home is designed for everyday living with light-colored hardwood floors that allow the pets to have the run of the home. Every room is bright and airy with views of the lush treed landscape inviting you to pause and wonder. Lori’s favorite room is a large den on the east end of the home. It has a gabled wood ceiling and a stacked stone hearth fireplace that gives the feel of a Colorado lodge. This room had many uses including a game table for puzzles, a desk for Lori’s husband, and two Italian arm chairs for them to start their day together over coffee while watching the sunrise.
No detail was left out in Lori's home and landscape design. From the unique mid-century modern linear tiled fireplace that is the focal point of the sprawling living room, to the "space-ship" play center they built in the media room for her future grandchildren, this home is truly something out of this world.
Years of touring clients' homes has given Lori the opportunity to see many amazing properties and gather ideas. Her dream home is now a reality, and she and her husband look forward to making memories in it for many years to come. LoriVadenWest.com

Advocating for a Safer Tomorrow: The Importance of Child Abuse Prevention and the Vital Role of CASA
Child abuse is a persistent and tragic issue that can have devastating and long-lasting effects on the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of a child. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Collin County, or CASA, is a local nonprofit agency that plays a pivotal role in preventing child abuse and ensuring the safety and welfare of our youngest community members by training and supporting court appointed volunteer advocates to provide powerful, best-interest advocacy and meaningful connections for children impacted by abuse, abandonment and neglect.
CASA volunteers are specially trained to meet the unique needs of children who have entered the child welfare system at no fault of their own. Appointed by judges as the Guardian ad Litem, CASA volunteers protect the best interests of their assigned children in court and in collaboration with the myriad of professionals working on the case. A CASA volunteer ensures their assigned children's well-being remains paramount.

“CASA's commitment to serving these vulnerable children extends beyond the courtroom.”
Unlike often overtaxed caseworkers, volunteer advocates typically work with one child at a time. This allows CASA volunteers to provide each child with the individualized attention they need and deserve. By forming personal connections with these children, CASA volunteers can better understand their specific needs and make the best recommendations to the court for appropriate services, interventions and placements.
CASA's commitment to serving these vulnerable children extends beyond the courtroom, as volunteers often become trusted mentors and positive role models in their lives. CASA of Collin County has been a beacon of hope for children impacted by abuse and neglect with unduplicated advocacy for over 30 years.
Sierra (4 years old) and Casey (6 years old) entered the child welfare system after their biological mother passed away and their father was struggling with substance abuse. Sierra and Casey were placed with a relative to ensure their safety. During this time, their father would attend supervised visits under the influence, failed weekly drug tests and was not completing courses ordered by the court. The girls and their family were losing hope until Linda, a CASA volunteer, was assigned to their case. Linda developed a trustful bond and became someone the girls could confide in. She was a resource and support for their family, and eventually their father. She became a light in the girls’ lives when they felt all hope was lost.
The court granted Sierra and Casey’s dad the opportunity to turn his life around. Through the support of his daughters, his family, and CASA volunteer, Linda, he was motivated to maintain his sobriety, hold a job, and was able to fight for his family. After continued success, dad reunited with Sierra and Casey, and mended family relationships that were once strained and broken. CASA volunteer, Linda, remains a family friend.
Child abuse prevention is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of individuals, communities and organizations. CASA of Collin County needs your support to continue making a positive impact in our community: learn more about becoming a volunteer advocate, make a tax-deductible donation or volunteer your time in other single events, by yourself or with a group.
For over 30 years, CASA of Collin County has provided unduplicated court-appointed advocacy for children removed from their homes and placed into the child welfare system due to abuse and neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates is a national association in the United States that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children. CASA are volunteers from the community who complete training that has been provided by the state or local CASA office.

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
CELEBRATE NATIONAL MARCH INTO LITERACY MONTH
ARTICLE BY KIMBERLY BLAKER
LOCALS ONLY | EDUCATION
40
What better day to celebrate Read Across America Day than on March 2nd, the birthday of the beloved Dr. Seuss? It's the perfect kickoff to March's National March Into Literacy Month, both of which are dedicated to the promotion of reading and literacy.
Read Across America Day was first introduced by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998.
The NEA's goal for the celebration is to motivate kids to become lifelong readers, thereby improving student performance. Every year, schools, public libraries, and other organizations celebrate this day by holding reading events for kids.
WAYS PARENTS CAN PROMOTE READING
There are many ways parents can promote a love of reading and encourage their kids to read not only during this celebration but year-round.
Read to kids. Begin reading to your child very early. The NEA suggests infancy is a good time to start. As your child grows, encourage your child's participation in reading the story with or to you.
Although your child may not be ready to read, kids often have some of their favorite books or pages memorized. By making your child an active participant, it will help develop their love for reading.
Visit the library. Think of the library as a big free educational toy store. Help your child choose some books but also encourage your child to look through shelves and select some on their own. Your child can also take home audiobooks, video games, videos, and music CDs.
Help your child build a collection. One thing common among reading lovers is how much they
enjoy having their own book collection. Help your child build a personal library of your child's favorite series, author, or genre. Then give your child a special shelf to store and display the collection.
Play word games. Look for board, computer, or phone games that help kids develop their reading and spelling skills and vocabulary.
Sign up for Goodreads. Through this Android and iOS app, kids can track both the books they've read and those they want to read. They can also check out what their friends are reading.
Subscribe your child to a magazine. There's a host of kids' magazines on the market and something for every age group. It will give your child something to look forward to each month and build enthusiasm for reading.
Read in front of your kids. Show kids that reading isn't just a school requirement, but rather a lifelong activity. Let them see you reading both to learn and for pleasure.
Form a kid's book club. If your child is interested in it, this is a great way to build excitement for reading. You'll want to find kids who are all about the same reading level. You'll need to decide where to hold the weekly or monthly meetings, which could be at your house, or perhaps your school or public library will provide you space. You might be able to advertise it through your child's school or public library as well.
Set up a reading room or corner. Find a quiet distraction-free area in your home to designate as the reading area. It should have comfy seating, perhaps even a bean bag or two, pillows, blankets, and good lighting. Celina-TX.Gov/379/Library

UIL
State Champ Cheer Team | Celina HS
It is with great pleasure to announce the Outstanding Student Athletes of the Month as selected by the Celina Independent School District (CISD) Athletic Coaching Team. This month’s selection is the UIL State Champion Cheer Team! The team consists of cheerleaders from all three CHS squads. Out of the 28 girls, nine of them were also on the 2022 State Champion team. Cheer Coach Julie Hall says, “In 2022, our goal was to make the top ten, and we knew that we had performed our best. However, I don’t think any one of us went into awards thinking we had won. This year, we knew that we had performed our best, and we knew that we could be the state champions.” To achieve this goal, the team begins working right after Spring Break - building skills, learning
choreography, and team building. It requires late nights and even some weekend sessions. Hall says, “Winning comes from hours and hours of practice but also from the heart of each of these girls. There isn’t a group of athletes that love Celina and the Bobcats like these girls!” Coach Hall acknowledges that in addition to the girls hard work, they could not have done it without the support of sponsors and the community, and thanks the families, friends, and administrators that showed up to cheer them on! We are excited looking at the future of CHS Cheer. Congratulations to the UIL State Champion Cheer Team on their selection as the March Outstanding Athletes of the Month!

WOVEN + KNOTTED
LIVING BOHO-CHIC WITH WOVEN TEXTURES AND MACRAMÉ
Decorate your space with handmade textures such as the modern, maker revival of 1970s macramé and year-round tropical feel of wicker. MACRAMÉ Made through knotting instead of weaving, macramé can add a unique touch in many various ways. Houzz contributor Laura Gaskill suggests incorporating it as nursery decor, plant hangers, wall hangings and modern fiber arts. WICKER According to Houzz contributor Yanic Simard, “the best way to really embrace the luxury-cottage appeal of wicker and rattan is to combine different forms of the two in one space... Look for other unexpected places to add a natural twist to your home with a new material woven into your palette.”

AGAINST THE GRAIN
TIPS FOR DECORATING WITH NATURAL MATERIALS
Houzz contributor Katie Treggiden offers many ways to incorporate natural materials and natural-state timber into your home, including using wood to cover one wall in a home for a pleasing accent wall; featuring your firewood as a striking, stacked display; and mixing different types of wood and different finishes in the same space. “A simple way to incorporate the wood trend is to expose structural wooden beams already present in your home,” Katie says. “Instead of painting them or boxing them in, leave them raw or give them a coat of wax to enrich the tones.”
