Alright Spring, do your thing. Nature reveals it’s beauty through budding trees and flowers, and the fresh temperate air invites us to spend more time outdoors. And for those of us without a green thumb, local farmer’s markets are gearing up for a busy season of visitors to enjoy fresh produce from local farmers. There are a multitude of diverse spots around town to discover, whether it is a restaurant with a great patio to enjoy with friends and family, a local vineyard to enjoy a glass of wine and take in the surrounding scenery or a hot spot or event downtown for a fun evening—there is something for everyone. For our April issue, we wanted to share with you how some of our neighbors are exploring whether it be in town or a weekend away. We would love to hear from you about your favorite hidden gems in town and your go-to travel destinations, so drop us a line or share it with us on Facebook or Instagram. Celina Square has always been the heartbeat of our beautiful city. New storefronts are continuing to pop up joining the current thriving businesses that reside on the Square. We follow local resident and realtor, Cindy Peters with Compass Real Estate, on a beautiful day spent in downtown Celina. She takes us through some of her favorite businesses which she frequents. First stop, time to wake up with a warm cup of joe from Summer Moon Coffee. Cindy loves to order a Quarter Moon Latte to start her day. Summer Moon is a great place to get your caffeine fix, do some work or mingle with your neighbors. Head over to Annie Jack to look at their latest fashions. It's the perfect place to find a new addition to your wardrobe or grab a gift. Cindy especially loves the Capri Blue line that Annie Jack carries, the Volcano candle being her favorite. Just a block east, we stroll over to William Williams Rare Jewels. Owner Bill Williams greets us and takes Cindy's ring back for a clean. He and son Noah have a passion for creating gorgeous pieces for their clients. Stop by for a jewelry cleaning and shop the beautiful display of diamonds and gems.

It's lunchtime at Toasted Walnut Table and Market. It's always a hard time choosing between favorites, the chicken and avocado or the smoked turkey on steroids. One thing is for sure, whatever we decide will be delicious. Chef Joey Dawkin's creations are a big hit with all of his patrons. Be sure to stop by and feed your cravings. After some meetings and phone calls in this hot real estate market, Cindy heads back to the Square to indulge her sweet tooth at Hey Sugar Candy Store. Just walking into Hey Sugar will lighten your mood. The sweet scents and the candy displays will take you back to your childhood. Cindy buys her favorite treat, a Reese's Pieces chocolate-covered pretzel. Yum! The day is winding down but there is one last stop before heading home. Cindy loves to gift her clients with a bottle of Bobcat Cabernet, which features the iconic Celina water tower on the label. It's the perfect "welcome home" gift to her Celina home buyers. Valley Vines offers a beautiful indoor tasting room as well as a cozy courtyard. It's the perfect downtown location to grab a glass of wine with friends. New businesses are popping up on the Square which is exciting for Celina and its residents. Opening in Spring 2022, Honeysuckle Rose Boutique can be found in the Huddleston Building and will offer trendy fashions and gifts. Cindy Peters has lived in Celina with her husband Kelley for 12 years. She has an adult daughter and a son who is a freshman at Celina High School. She takes pride in customer service and loves to help families find their dream homes. She is an award-winning agent with Compass Real Estate and services northern Collin County. HIGH HILL
FARM An East Texas Resort and Spa Makes for the Perfect Getaway 20
M UST SE E | EVENT PL AN NI NG + S E RVI CE S
Picture this: You are relaxing in an infinity pool savoring the sun while surrounded by a vineyard resembling Napa Valley. Next you embrace a calming massage at an elegant spa, followed by exquisite cuisine at a first-class restaurant. Your day ends with an evening walk in the countryside to a romantic private bungalow. Want to experience this vacation but think you must travel far away? It’s actually only a short drive from Celina. Escape from the ordinary and experience high-end luxury and comfort at High Hill Farm Resort and Spa located in the Piney Woods roughly two hours from Celina. High Hill Farm is the dream turned reality for Jason and Sharon Romano. The Romanos loved to travel to places like Seaside, Florida, New Orleans, Napa Valley, Italy, and other European destinations. Each location had a memory, beautiful scenery, excellent food, plus exciting adventures. As Texans with busy lives, it was often hard to vacation so far away. The couple wanted a place that combined the best of their travels but also close to the Dallas area within a short driving distance. Since no place existed that met their criteria, they decided to build their own exclusive retreat. The Romanos could literally see “the forest through the trees” when they discovered seventy-five acres of thick, dense land in the scenic Piney Woods near Tyler. They merged Jason’s expertise in building custom homes and Sharon’s gift for design and entertaining to develop the ultimate weekend getaway. In fact, since 2015, the couple has transformed the area into a popular retreat complete with cozy bungalows, a working vineyard modeled after Napa Valley, and inspired cuisine that will entice any self-proclaimed foodie. High Hill Farm has activities for everyone. In fact, it is the guests’ satisfaction that is of the highest priority here. Besides unwinding by the pool, visitors can also enjoy a soothing massage at the spa (with advance reservations). For the outdoorsy types, the resort has over seventy-five acres of hiking trails and nature walks. There is also Bocce ball, skeet shooting,

and yoga opportunities. Finally, for some great shopping and sight-seeing, visitors can travel to Tyler, Texas within minutes of the farm. And did we mention golf? High Hill Golf Club allows for a quick game on superior grounds. The natural topography of East Texas with a scenic lake includes a club house as well. But no retreat is complete without a culinary masterpiece. Each menu item created by executive chef Ryan Dove is seasonaly comprised of locally sourced ingredients with exceptional wine pairings and craft cocktails specific to the occasion. Côte is a full-service restaurant ready for your romantic dinner, brunch, or even breakfast in bed should you desire. High Hill Farm is home to many types of events. The resort often hosts couples, girl’s trips, small church groups, corporate retreats, family reunions, book club meetings, and even intimate weddings to name a few.

The accommodations include quaint bungalows constructed to remind you of a beach on the Gulf coast with their own secluded courtyard. For a larger group, Gatsby, the grand bungalow is a four bedroom, two bath with a screened-in porch and fire pit. And finally, "The Barn" is equipped with a one-bedroom suite, bunkroom, and two private rooms with queen beds making it an ultimate space for a mini family reunion. On average, High Hill Farm has special events each month. Ranging from a Bourbon Cigar Dinner and Father’s Day Brunch in June, wine dinners in the spring months, to the very popular JazzFest, there is always a fun activity and occasion at High Hill Farm. The calendar of events as well as specials for weekend packages are publicized on the retreat’s many social media pages. The Romanos have even more plans for High Hill Farm. Adjacent to the resort will be a new community of vacation homes
called High Hill Development. The new development will include single and twostory homes plus condominiums. The project will feature bike paths, a chapel, and an amphitheater for live-music and special events. Visitors and residents at High Hill Development will also have full admittance to High Hill Farm Resort and Spa. In addition, the residences can be excellent investment properties, besides vacation homes, with rentals managed by High Hill Management. The Romanos built High Hill Farm as their own version of their best vacations and experiences, attainable to people’s busy lives and schedules. The result is the whole package: a luxurious retreat designed how people want to vacation today in an enjoyable, quick drive from Celina. CATCHING UP WITH COUNCILMAN AND LOCAL MORTGAGE SPECIALIST, JUSTIN STEINER, JUST IN TIME
24
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | FINANCE + LE GAL S E RVI CE S
We catch up with local business owner Justin Steiner, Vice President of Mortgage Lending at Guaranteed Rate Affinity. Justin was elected to the city council of Celina in 2019 and is an active member of the community. A father to twin boys who are approaching the teenage years, Justin has decided to focus on his family and faith and not run for council re-election. His love for Celina will continue to show through his service as a volunteer for numerous city organizations.
ANY ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THE COMMUNITY?
WHAT BROUGHT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS TO CELINA?
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT RUNNING A BUSINESS IN CELINA?
Our family found a house on a couple of acres years ago and immediately fell in love with the community. The first day I walked into the Chamber Office to introduce myself, I met the chamber’s president Melissa Cromwell. She introduced me to then city manager where he took me to rotary. Everyone was so welcoming, I immediately knew I needed to have my office here.
I have not seen community support for local businesses as strong as it is in Celina. Our community truly does “Support Local”.
It starts with asking, “Where can I serve?” There are many places to start getting more involved. One can start with the Rotary. If you are a veteran, look into our local American Legion. Have a child? Get them involved in Scouts. Scouts need a lot of good parents to be involved. Have a business? Join the Chamber. There is opportunity everywhere to get involved.
AS A PROFESSIONAL MORTGAGE SALES MANAGER, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FAMILIES LOOKING TO BUY A HOME IN THIS GROWING CELINA MARKET?
YOU VOLUNTEER FOR MANY LOCAL EVENTS, DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE?
Don’t look anywhere else. Celina is the place to be, to raise your family, to retire, to live.
Every one of our local events are great, but my favorite is Oktoberfest. The whole atmosphere during that event is amazing.
TELL US ABOUT “THE STEINER” SPECIAL MENU ITEM AT TENDER SMOKEHOUSE.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST TAKE AWAY FROM SERVING ON THE CITY COUNCIL? It will sound cliché, but our city is moving in the right direction. I am impressed with our city staff and all first responders. We have something very unique here, from the way our community wrapped their arms around our local businesses during the height of the pandemic to the support our city gave during the great freeze last year. There is a reason our tag line is “Life Connected.” We are.
3 1/2 years ago, I asked them if they would put burnt ends on top of mac and cheese. They did it and immediately I tasted a little bit of heaven. I started ordering it regularly and then my friends started ordering and it just evolved into “The Steiner.” It’s still my favorite dish!

Many people do not realize the importance of community, but a community is often what makes a home feel like home and what brings people to want to live there. One great example of community in Celina can be seen in the partnership between our school district and the Celina Education Foundation (CEF). Founded in 1992, CEF (formerly CARE) supports our schools at all levels by providing grants to our teachers and in scholarships provided to our senior class. “Being able to see a small group of ladies in partnership with our community, bless our seniors, our staff and teachers by making a better learning environment for our students is pretty cool,” explained CEF President Jennifer Thomas (Since 2019) because “many hands make light work.” As the school district and the learning needs of its students continues to grow, CEF continues to create things such as the Grants for Great Ideas program that rewards creativity in our teachers to develop ideas that can improve student engagement and learning by funding those ideas to make them a reality. Each year CEF provides scholarships funded by the foundation as well as outside organizations to help graduating seniors continue their educational studies at college/trade schools.CEF partners with local organizations and donors to pair graduating seniors with scholarships to help fund their future education goals. Celina resident and Escrow Officer at Fidelity National Title, Dana Draper, who herself received a scholarship when she graduated in 1998 believes “it is significant and impactful because it helps to give students an opportunity at higher learning which is so important to their future in getting the career they want.” Dana believes that “CEF gives scholarships to students that they often don’t even know. I was able to pay for the first two years of community college and my first half year at Tarleton. I am so grateful for what it allowed me to accomplish.” Each April CEF holds a Denims and Diamonds Gala in Celina that serves as the main fundraising opportunity of the year. Funds raised allow them to continue their mission of improving education in Celina by providing teachers and students with the resources they need to keep Celina ISD one of best districts in the area. The long-term impact Celina Education Foundation is making on our students, teachers and our community will create a better more productive society for all. CelinaEducationFoundation.org

SERVPRO GRAND OPENING! ARTICLE BY ROGER IRELAND | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Now In Celina To Help 24/7
Staring down our recent winter storms brings back all too vivid memories of power outages and burst water pipes. These weather events have made many of us familiar with restoration services and none in the business are better than SERVPRO®. We sat down with Heath Brown, Recon Division Manager of the SERVPRO® moving into Celina the Spring of 2022, to learn more about their business and why they think Celina is the best place to set down roots in North Texas.
CL: WE KNOW THE SERVPRO® BRAND FROM THE GREEN TRUCKS AND TELEVISION ADS. WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE KNOW? HB: Well, we’re known primarily for water, fire, weather, and mold restoration. What most people don’t realize is that once the clean up is complete, there is generally a lot of work needed to get a property back to its original condition. We provide a turnkey solution coupling our restoration services with contracting and remodeling services. This not only saves homeowners money, but the hassle of having to search for a contractor, most often at the last minute and when they are in the greatest demand.
CL: HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT THAN OTHER GENERAL CONTRACTORS? HB: Working directly with the insurance companies, we’re able to more than simply repair damage. We can coordinate remodeling and reconstruction above and beyond straightforward restoration. This makes the process more seamless for the homeowner. While each franchise is individually

owned and operated, being a national brand, we have best in class partners and suppliers. These relationships allow us to provide the best quality services in the business.
CL: DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE A RESTORATION EVENT TO USE YOUR CONTRACTING AND REMODELING SERVICES? HB: Absolutely not! While these services can be combined into a turnkey solution, we offer both restoration services alone as well as our remodeling services alone too.
CL: ARE YOU ABLE TO OFFER OTHER SERVICES OTHER THAN SIMPLY RESTORATION AND REMODELING? FOR INSTANCE, CAN YOU OFFER DESIGN SERVICES? HB: While we do not have designers on staff, we can offer best in class services like design through our extensive network of partners.
CL: WHY CHOOSE CELINA FOR YOUR NEXT FACILITY? HB: We chose Celina for several reasons. First, it’s location is central to our territory. For restoration services, our response time is one hour with a commitment to be on the job site in four hours. Being central helps us tremendously with meeting these goals. Additionally, with all the demand for construction and remodeling in the area, Celina was a logical choice. Call SERVPRO of North Frisco/ Prosper/ Celina at (972) 335-9900 for your next renovation.

After graduating from University of North Texas, Eric Becker and his wife Melissa were searching for a place to plant roots and raise a family. They found Celina, and now 17 years later, Eric is running his family-owned business and raising his two daughters in his beloved city. His company, Automation Integration is one of the largest AV firms in Texas, finding themselves on the list of Top 100 companies by CePro for many years. From home automation, outdoor lighting and home security, Automation Integration offers a large variety of services. Though business keeps Eric busy, he finds the time to give back to his city as an active volunteer. He has served on the Board of Adjustments, is currently serving on the Planning & Zoning committee and he’s taking his leadership to the next level and running for City Council Place 1.

Eric is not all work and no play. As an alumni of UNT, he owns a green school bus and loves to attend football games at his alma mater. He also has great passion for technology. You might have seen his impressive Christmas light display which attracts on-lookers from all over. The lights dance to the sounds of Christmas music and is a festive attraction in which he take great pride. Eric also takes pride in being the "man behind the lights." He has the privilege of illuminating the historic downtown water tower for different events and causes. It recently took the colors of blue and yellow in support of Ukraine citizens. The city installed LED lights that can change colors and they say it will be lit up at least 30 times this year for different occasions. Eric Becker is literally and figuratively lighting up Celina. Come and enjoy a truly elevated dining experience that reflects the new era of Nashville. When ready to absorb the historic side of the city, the centuries-old landmark and winery, Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery, offers guests “historic tours, family tours, wine and food pairings, bourbon tastings and chef-inspired food and wine pairings” that are unparalleled in their local experience. Likewise, Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery carries an incredible story of origination and bottles a remarkable 1860 family recipe that made Tennessee Whiskey world famous. Let’s talk about one of the most anticipated—the food scene! Three things Nashville is known for are hot chicken, barbecue, and meat & three restaurants. Nashville has amassed a lot of attention over the last 10 years for its exquisite food scene, with

several James Beard award-winning chefs and an incredible independent restaurant scene. People know how good the food scene is, but if they really want to find those independent chef-driven restaurants like Rolf and Daughters, FOLK, Bastion, Locust, or Henrietta Red, these are the chefs that garner a lot of attention that you won’t want to miss. For the art lovers at heart, Nashville’s ever-growing arts scene is as diverse and approachable as its music scene. Murals, streets art, public art, art galleries and museums are all a part of experiencing Nashville’s visual art offerings. Music history venues such as the new National Museum of African American Music will complement your old favorite Frist Art Museum, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, and Grand Ole Opry experiences. According to @visitmusiccity, “Everyone should do the Grand Ole Opry one night; it’s not just about the music, it’s a piece of history and the world’s longest running radio show.” Last but not least is the music scene. Whether you’re into blues, jazz, honky tonk, rock, symphony or quite literally any genre of music imaginable, Nashville has it all. Spend one night on Broadway hopping bar to bar, sit orchestra-side at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, tour and take in a show at the 130-year-old Ryman Auditorium, then experience a songwriter’s night at The Bluebird or The Listening Room Cafe. The music is different every night everywhere, so one is best served by referring to visitmusiccity.com for their Upcoming Concerts Calendar to soak up all the magnificent sounds.
“Nashville’s ever-growing arts scene is as diverse and approachable as its music scene. Murals, streets art, public art, art galleries, and museums are all a part of experiencing Nashville’s visual art offerings.”
