If you had asked eight-year-old me to define style, I would have pointed straight to the glitter and sequins section at Justice, aka every section. If you asked me in middle school, it was my signature knee-high socks in all shades of the rainbow (if the rainbow was neon). If you asked me in college, it’d be athleisure I could comfortably sprint between classes in. And if you asked me now… The first thing that comes to mind is, “Anything halfway decent from the waist-up so that I don’t embarrass myself during online meetings.” (Oh, and if I can’t hide behind the comfort of my screen, dresses with pockets. Always.) With all of that said, I encourage you to take the time to consider what phases you have gone through over the years. Because I think what it comes down to is that we are constantly changing, whether or not the shift in our tastes is something we are fully conscious of in the moment. The things that excite us, the seasons of life we find ourselves in, our priorities, our responsibilities… They all change. It only makes sense that our style evolves alongside them. The outfits—and the hairstyles and makeup looks and even our bedrooms—that once felt like the perfect reflection of who we were eventually give way to something new. We will forever be discovering the latest and greatest versions of ourselves. When we look back at the history of the world as a whole, every era leaves its own signature. It’s fascinating to see how style captures not only what people wore, but what they aspired to. Fashion and beauty are just one chapter of the story. Trends will forever come and go. But style is about choosing which ones feel like you and being able to set your own. It’s about deciding what deserves a place in your closet, your home, your routine, and ultimately your story. So as you flip through this Style Issue, where you’ll see kids and adults alike feeling emboldened through style, I hope you find inspiration wherever you are in your own journey. Whether you’re embracing bold colors or timeless classics, remember that the most important thing is your personal self-expression. ELEVATE HAIR CARE AT VERANO LUXE, WHERE EVERY VISIT IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOU FEEL CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE

15 years ago, when he was getting his film production company off the ground, he met his now-wife Alex Verano, who was attending beauty school. As someone who understood the importance of visual storytelling, he immediately recognized something special in her. He brought Alex onto a production in Chicago to handle hair and makeup, knowing she had the talent, eye, work ethic, and presence of someone destined to make an impact in the industry. Over the course of her career, Alex has discovered that great hair is about far more than color and cuts. She wants to craft art that reflects the person sitting in the chair, and that’s something she now achieves as Verano Luxe’s Master Artist. “I think true style has less to do with following trends and more to do with alignment. Does the way you present yourself reflect what you value? Does the space you create make people feel something? Are the details considered, even when no one is asking them to be?” says Kyle. “For me and Alex, building Verano Luxe with our kids has been an expression of all of that. We wanted to create something that felt beautiful, of course, but also intentional, private, warm, and deeply personal.”

That philosophy became the foundation for the salon. Kyle and Alex believe that human connection matters just as much as the final look. They wanted to develop something beyond the traditional salon model, offering a place where clients could slow down and experience a more tailored approach to beauty. Their goal was simple: design a space where people could look and feel their absolute best because they were genuinely cared for. Today, Verano Luxe features two private suites, with a third currently in development and a plan for a larger buildout of 10. Each room has its own personality and point of view while maintaining the same commitment to comfort, privacy, and attention to detail. They allow clients to step away from the noise and settle into a space that feels like it was made for them. The stylist team includes Signature Artist Hannah Lee, who specializes in blondes and lived-in color. Having her own suite has been an especially rewarding part of Hannah’s journey because she can give her clients a welcoming environment where they enjoy uninterrupted one-on-one attention. “Growing up, I was inspired by a family member who was a hairstylist, and I always loved being in the salon. The creativity, the atmosphere, and seeing how something as simple as doing someone’s hair could completely change the way they felt really stuck with me,” says Hannah. “I became a hairstylist because I wanted a career where I could be creative every day while helping people feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in their own skin.” “I love that Verano gives us the opportunity to create something in its entirety. It’s not just the salon itself, or the services, or the interiors, or the branding. It’s all of it working together,” says Kyle. “For me, that’s the most fulfilling part: building a brand where every detail has a purpose, and where creativity is not just about how something looks, but how it makes people feel.” CONTINUED >

It was hard for her to find the time to pamper herself and let herself relax,” says Hannah. “After I did her hair, she cried from happiness and feeling like herself once again. It all started in the third grade. Sloane Rainey loved wearing the colorful earrings she made by hand to school, and one day, her counselor took notice. When Sloane shared that she had designed them herself, she was asked to create a pair and happily accepted the challenge. That first request sparked an idea that her hobby could become something much bigger. “I expanded to make earrings in my school’s colors, and they were very popular,” says Sloane. “I thought that I could use my earring profits to give back to the organizations and people that have given to me and help them give to other kids.” This blossomed into Dangles and Studs, a small business that helps bring a sparkle to your day. As the lead designer, Sloane handcrafts each pair of earrings with the hope that they will tell a story of creativity and compassion. Living with cerebral palsy, Sloane knows firsthand the difference that supportive organizations can have on a child’s confidence, opportunities, and outlook. Strength While working as a stylist for fashion shows, photoshoots, and special events, Aysa Province began volunteering at Dell Children’s Blood and Cancer Center. Her first event, the hospital’s annual prom, struck a cord. Children exhausted from treatment were laughing, twirling in their gowns, and encouraging one another while admiring their hair and makeup. Province realized one day of feeling celebrated could have a lasting impact on a child’s emotional well-being.

Wanting patients to experience that joy more than once a year, she asked the hospital: What if they had a fashion show of their own? With a $1,000 sponsorship and the showroom of a local car dealership, the community brought the vision to life. “The models walked the runway with confidence, pride, and joy, and everyone in the room felt it,” says Province. “Families, volunteers, healthcare staff, and guests left feeling inspired, uplifted, and grateful to

have witnessed something so special. It became clear that this event wasn’t just changing the lives of the children… It was changing all of us.” A therapist at the clinic shared that patients talked about the fashion show for months afterward. And just three years later, Beautifully Loved officially became a nonprofit to expand their offerings. “We provide fun, meaningful, and therapeutic experiences that build confidence, strengthen self-worth, and remind every family that they are deeply loved and never alone,” says Province. Today, the fashion show remains central to Beautifully Loved’s mission. In 2026, 40 children and young adults walked the runway in three different outfits they were able to keep, while over 400 supporters cheered them on. The team is already preparing for their 12th annual show on February 27th, 2027 at PBS Austin. “It’s impossible not to be moved as you watch these courageous kids step onto the runway, own the spotlight, and be celebrated for exactly who they are,” says Province. The biggest blessing has always been the relationships. Over the years, the team has had the privilege of honoring countless milestone moments alongside the patients they serve. Beautifully Loved strives to be a place families can turn to during life’s hardest seasons. They understand the emotional weight of hospital stays, long appointments, and difficult diagnoses. Through creativity, beauty, and connection, they hope to remind every child that healing isn’t only found in medicine—it’s also found in joy. “I wanted to make a difference in the lives of families facing a child’s hospital journey, but they have given me just as much in return,” says Province. “They inspire me to grow and get better every day, and remind me that showing up for others is one of life’s greatest rewards.” As Beautifully Loved’s mission reaches more lives, volunteers become more important than ever. The organization is seeking beauty and self-care professionals, ranging from hairstylists and barbers to licensed massage therapists and makeup artists. Volunteers can even help stock hospital shelves and carts with toiletries, clothing, hair care products, art supplies, journals, and spa kits. Beautifully Loved also funds therapy services for patients and caregivers. By covering therapy visits, support groups, and mentorship opportunities, the nonprofit removes financial barriers so families can access critical support without feeling overwhelmed. Picture framing is a window into someone’s story. Whether it’s preserving a once-in-a-lifetime moment, honoring a family’s legacy, or showcasing a treasured collection, frames are designed to capture the meaning behind the artwork. For Hang Ups owner Ursula Overidek, style isn’t confined to a single design trend. (Although she’s currently seeing gold, ornate designs making waves with the under-45 crowd.) What it really translates to is endless possibilities. With an extensive selection of frame types and materials, she finds the perfect balance between the personality of a client’s artwork and their budget. The goal is to create a piece that feels complete. “Someone brought in a rather fine traditional landscape of a hilly landscape. My first thought was a classic frame,” says Overdiek. “But the lady talked about the rough house their grandfather had on this ranch, the casual lifestyle, and the

muddy shoes and clothes when she visited. So, we took a little more woodsy, rustic frame to express the unseen memories.” Overdiek believes the frame should become part of the narrative rather than simply surrounding it. Before choosing a frame, she encourages customers to think beyond the artwork itself. Is this a decorative print for a guest room, or is it your mother’s final painting? Is it a funny snapshot from your child’s birthday that will be replaced next year, or an antique photograph that can never be recreated? Thoughtful framing starts with understanding how it will sync with your home’s story. Overdiek has spent years framing pieces from people and places around the world, each carrying its own cultural influence and personal significance. “Colorful, bold art from Latin American countries needs a different frame than romantic memories expressed in a painting of the Amalfi Coast,” says Overdiek. “Or there are beautiful fabric pieces from India or handmade needle art. So many hours of stitching, painting, or crocheting have to be treated in specific ways and considered with a deep or stable frame.” Hang Ups routinely tackles oversized artwork that many stores won’t accept, including those measuring 104x54 inches. 1 bottle, standard size, of pinot grigio 2 1/2 cups fresh apple cider 1 cup club soda 1/2 cup ginger brandy 3 honey crisp apples, chopped 3 pears, chopped

DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate for an hour or so (or longer) before serving. The drink can be enjoyed immediately, if desired, but the longer you let the ingredients sit and mix, the deeper the flavors will be. Giving it time to develop will make the drink more captivating and interesting.

NOTE: Regular brandy can be used, but ginger brandy gives it an extra kick of flavor.
