This Father’s Day, Invest in Your Smile

Aspirations & Visions of the Future

Men, do you remember when you were young and had incredible dreams? What would my future be? Career interests? College? Marriage? Children? Will they follow in my footsteps?

In a classic U.S. Census study, 23% work in the same broad occupation group as their fathers. Near 40% for high-status professions, like doctors and engineers, and 10 to 15% in service or labor jobs.

My son-in-law, Casey, is one of 23% that followed his father’s career path. The vision was planted around 5, when he was wrapped in his father’s pilot suit, and the dream began. At 15, he obtained his pilot’s license before he could legally drive a car, and owning an airplane was the next big dream! He attended college in Florida, where he flew a very dangerous plane pulling banners through the skies and over the white sandy beaches above the crowds, till Daddy said, “Son, are you crazy? NO!” Then he flew across the tops of solar windmills. As he increased his hours, he increased his licensing, up to having a Government Clearance Certification allowing him to fly presidents. Next, he obtained certification for a G5, flying privately for the oil industry’s biggest billionaires and quite a few well-known music artists. From a childhood dream to flying all over the world, traveling with the rich and famous.

What I have learned: Pilots get into an airplane much the way ordinary people step into their cars.

As a young lady, I had a dream of going on a date where my boyfriend took me on his private plane to another city for dinner and dancing, then back home. While Casey is not my date, he has fulfilled that dream so many times! My daughter Christina and I were flown from Austin to have breakfast in Fredericksburg and from Houston to have lunch in Port Aransas. We’ve flown their private plane to the mountains of Colorado, and they have landed on mountain tops you can’t even get to by car, but where you can have lunch with other pilots and their friends and families. The sky is truly calling him! They love flying so much, they named their beautiful daughter “Sky,” planting the seed for the next generation’s dreams.

Men, let your children dream and help them believe they can do anything they put their minds to... Sometimes, it comes true!

MORE THAN A PLACE TO PARK

See how Black Diamond Garages embodies performance, precision, and durability, just like elite motorsports

Kenny Gaona is a local through and through. An Anderson High School graduate, he’s built his legacy right here, running his business out of Cedar Park for 23 years.

Black Diamond Garages has earned a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and cutting-edge flooring solutions, creating high-performance garage spaces for everyone from soccer moms to car enthusiasts.

The name nods to the highest level on the ski slopes, representing the team of experts who deliver top-tier results. Their commitment to the job has earned them best-in-class recognitions and standout features in Travisso’s Parade of Homes.

“It’s not only rewarding to provide services to our clients, but also to provide livelihoods for my staff. They are quality trades guys and ladies who can support their families through long-term, award-winning work,” says Gaona.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR FLOORING, CABINETRY, SLATWALL, AND OVERHEAD RACK SOLUTIONS AT: BLACKDIAMONDGARAGES.COM

That same drive took Black Diamond to the racetrack in 2025, when Gaona accepted a NASCAR sponsorship at Circuit of the Americas. For a lifelong racing fan who admittedly would be there anyway, the opportunity was a natural fit.

“When I saw the Black Diamond car come out on the track, I swear I had goosebumps,” says Gaona. “To see the brand that you put every ounce of sweat, heart, money, and soul into out there on a national level… I still get choked up when I talk about it.”

That opportunity reflected the pride he and his team pour into every project.

Black Diamond Garages is about rethinking what a garage can be. From home gyms and workshops to sleek showcases and family spaces, they transform garages into environments as beautiful as they are functional.

“Whether you’re from Cedar Park, Leander, Austin, or Rollingwood, if you’re a Black Diamond customer, you’re a Black Diamond customer for life,” says Gaona. “We’re here to help, to service, to stand behind our work.”

Your Wellness Wake-Up Call

Educate yourself on achieving better health with Holistic Hub and PRYSM iO’s expert insights

A nurse by trade, Ryan Encinas began his career at one of the most demanding environments in medicine—MD Anderson, the nation’s leading cancer research hospital. There, as a first assistant, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with surgeons during countless complex procedures.

But Ryan’s fascination with preventive health pulled him outside the operating room. With a semi-pro athlete background, he understood the discipline of maintaining a strong body. After rising up the ladder, he returned to school for nutrition, biochemistry, and genetics. That sparked a decision to build a business centered on proactive, rootcause health coaching.

He ultimately amassed a fully organic social media following. Then came the message that has since expanded his reach… an introduction to PRYSM iO, a non-invasive, AI-powered wellness ecosystem that measures nutritional status at the cellular level and translates it into actionable insights.

“Dr. Steve Moore, who’s been running this system, pioneering it for 20 years, and is responsible for 90% of the devices in America, reached out to me. By the grace of God, he found me on social media,” says Ryan. “He saw this technology as a way to change the whole system.”

Around that time, Ryan met his wife, Madeleine. They shared a vision for health and autonomy, and joined forces in this next chapter as PRYSM iO distributors.

Ryan continues collaborating with Dr. Moore, even stepping into film with the documentary sHEALed , which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this May. The project dove into holistic solutions for women’s health, reinforcing that there are other paths worth exploring.

What makes the work tangible for Ryan is the real-life transformations. He’s seen firsthand how PRYSM iO helps people reconnect with their bodies. In one case, a longtime friend who had struggled with weight and thyroid issues for years finally found answers. With the right data and guidance, she was able to come off her medication.

More people like Ryan are stepping into the conversation, asking better questions, and looking deeper into their wellness instead of just surface-level fixes.

“It’s really unifying families, healthcare, nutrition, and influencers,” says Ryan. “There are no brand deals. It’s just, ‘Hey, do you want to measurably improve your health? Here’s an easy way to do it.’”

To support that movement, the team is building systems to increase education. At the center is WellPath360, a platform created with Dr. Moore to help healthcare providers deliver science-backed programs tailored to their specialties.

This June, Ryan and Madeleine will also be hosting a health sovereignty retreat in Guatemala through Have. Be. Do. Retreats for those ready to take a more active role in their wellness. Participants will be equipped with a plan to confidently move forward.

“Being in this position has challenged me to grow as a leader, not only in my business but for my family and for others. That includes people in the same health space, helping them provide better care to their patients,” says Ryan.

It’s all about awareness and access. That’s why Ryan partners with gyms, medical practices, and local businesses to host free health screening events, giving a 15-second entry point into understanding their bodies.

As PRYSM iO evolves into a fully integrated smart health device, the goal is clear: make it easier for people to succeed across nutrition, lifestyle, supplementation, and fitness without the overwhelm.

“My passion in life is to help people and give them more information—information that’s simple, concise, and clearly shows what you need to do,” says Ryan. “I’m honored to discuss all things health.”

THE LURE

OF TEXAS RIVERS

Hear an 83-year-old man’s tale about his longtime love of being on the water

I fell in love with Texas’s rivers at a very early age. Growing up in East Texas, we lived near the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. The water was so clear you could see the pebbles in the shallows. My dad was an avid fisherman, and he would take me and my younger brother, Mike, along when he went to the river to fish in the summertime. Mike and I would swim and lie in the current for hours on end. We also scoured the tall sand banks for arrowheads.

Later in life, I got involved in helping other boys enjoy the outdoors by teaching canoeing to the Boy Scouts who attend summer camp at Camp Strake in Conroe, Texas. My wife and I

took training from the local Red Cross office and became certified to teach. It was an ideal way to share our love of the outdoors and how to safely enjoy a skill that would lead to a merit badge as they began to work toward the rank of Eagle Scout.

My next adventure was to learn how to teach kayaking to adults. I became a level-two instructor, certified by the American Canoe Association. Paddling lakes and rivers in Texas and the Southwest has been a great way to keep this 83-year-old body in a semblance of physical shape. In recent years, I’ve paddled many rivers, from the San Marcos River to the Colorado to the Nueces. We even did 40 miles on the Devils River in four days.

Today, I’m with the Texas River Protection Agency, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural purity of Texas waterways. Founded by a coalition of conservation and recreation groups, TRPA continues to be at the forefront of safeguarding Texas rivers for generations to come.

Want to find out how you can help rivers remain thriving ecosystems? Visit txrivers.org to become a member, join a river cleanup, and foster a sense of environmental stewardship.

Gather all day long at Solstice Coffee & Cocktails, founded by hospitality veteran Matthew Wenger

In March, a new kind of gathering made its debut just off Lake Travis. Solstice blends indoor comfort with outdoor beauty, offering an open-air patio that looks out over the Texas Hill Country, set within an International Dark Sky Community.

For Founder Matthew Wenger, who also serves as longtime manager of Austin’s award-winning bar Whisler’s, Solstice is the culmination of years spent perfecting his cocktail craft. At the same time, he found inspiration in the family- and dogfriendly coffee shops of downtown. With Solstice, he’s brought those two worlds together under one roof.

“I was very excited to hire a staff and instill the tricks of the trade that I learned from my years of experience,” says Wenger. “You will never know everything, and I firmly believe that the tricks are not secrets. If I can help you grow on your path in life, why not?”

Looking ahead, the team is especially excited to host signature celebrations around the summer and winter solstices as a nod to the business’s name. Solstice is the balance of day and night, coffee and cocktails—two sides of the same coin.

When you visit, Wenger recommends trying his favorite: Just Another Coffee Drink, a cleverly named mezcal and espresso cocktail. Pair it with flavorful bites from local food trucks and settle in as acoustic music fills the evening air.

“There’s no feeling like the moment you remember to take a deep breath, look around, and see people from all walks of life enjoying something that you built,” says Wenger. “When a vision becomes a reality through hard work and the support of your team, it’s a surreal feeling of pride.”

A FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE

Meet Eric Boyce, a wealth management professional dedicated to making a real local impact

You might know Eric Boyce as the Founder, President, and CEO of Boyce and Associates Wealth Consulting, Inc.—a firm he always envisioned building on his own terms. After nearly 30 years sharpening his expertise in finance, in 2017, he created that business, surrounded by the right people.

His willingness to take a leap of faith extends beyond his career. Boyce served three terms on the City Council, giving back to the community where he and his wife raised their family. From leading as Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission to President of the Economic Development Corporation, he played a significant role in shaping the city’s growth. He focused on smart development, strategic job creation, and a thriving local identity.

“My mother was very involved in the community, and she inspired me to get involved when I was young,” says Boyce. “Council allowed me to listen to citizens’ needs, wants, and wishes, and help drive capital programs, budgets, and other expansions to drive long-term growth.”

Boyce’s impact is also evident in the establishment of the Parks & Trails Foundation, which is all about preserving and enhancing our green spaces. It reflects his belief that a strong community is nurtured, protected, and accessible for everyone.

“I’m particularly proud of that effort, which I worked very closely with the staff on,” says Boyce. “It’s turning into a wonderful organization promoting a lot of positivity in Cedar Park.”

At the core of everything Boyce does is a genuine commitment to people. Whether guiding clients through financial decisions or staying involved in local nonprofit initiatives, his aim remains the same: contributing to something bigger than himself.

“Cedar Park has something for everyone—work, play, and livability,” says Boyce. “We have parks, events, celebrations, and more. There’s a wonderful connectedness and camaraderie in our city.”

AGE WITH VITALITY

EXTEND YOUR PRIME WITH PERSONALIZED THERAPIES FROM VESSEL LONGEVITY

Vessel Longevity was created for people who want more years of doing what they love. Their approach focuses on protecting your health for decades to come.

Owner and Medical Director Dr. Emeka Ofobike brings over 25 years in the medical field, paired with family experiences that shaped how he views long-term health. It’s important to him that each treatment is something he’s done himself.

“I’m 48 years old, and I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life. I’ve got my Oura Ring that I use to track my deep sleep and my readiness score every

day, and they’re always high,” says Emeka. “We’ve also got our InBody scanner that lets you know what your body composition is, and it gives you a health score and a body age. It’s great to see your body age being younger than your chronological age—you know you’re doing something right.”

One client began his journey two years ago. Through a combination of a weight loss program, hormone therapy, IV treatments, and guidance toward consistent physical activity, he committed to the process. Recently, his results told the story: his body scan measured him six years younger, with a 98 out of 100 health score.

Vessel offers comprehensive care that supports both body and brain. Their membership programs are designed to help clients get the most out of every service. For men, that even includes testosterone replacement therapy with options for oral treatments, injections, or pellets, fit for individual needs.

Now with two locations—one connected to The Crossover and another inside all-in-one wellness center Elevated Wellness in Lakeway—Vessel is expanding its reach. Emeka splits his time between these spots while his highly trained team leads with the same level of care. Through event partnerships with other health-centric businesses, they continue growing a trustworthy presence. Their full-picture approach is where real transformation happens, with Vessel walking alongside you through any of your goals.

“I’m especially excited about our stem cell offerings. We’re going to be part of a clinical study where we’re checking the outcome and efficacy of stem cell treatments,” says Emeka. “As an orthopedic surgeon, I’m really concerned

about joint health, so for people with things like early arthritis, we want to use these treatments to help the body regenerate on its own.”

Vessel is also working with a below-the-waist paraplegic client navigating ED, using shockwave therapy as part of his care plan. The treatment itself takes less than five minutes per session, and the results have been remarkable.

Many clients come to Vessel afraid of what comes with aging: cognitive decline, decreased function, fatigue, and loss of independence. That’s why the team emphasizes the value of investing in your body the same way you do financially, with the goal of being in great shape by the time you reach retirement age.

“If we can change that narrative so that you know, as you continue to get older, you can get stronger, your brain stays sharp, your body stays functional… then people aren’t going to be scared to age anymore,” says Emeka.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
