Summer Seafood Gazpacho

(yields ~8 C gazpacho) • • • • • • • • This summer seafood gazpacho screams summer and is the perfect, refreshing meal, snack or appetizer to beat the heat - whether you’re entertaining or enjoying a quiet meal with family. It’s packed with some of the season’s most flavorful produce and provides satisfying fiber and protein to help keep you feeling full, while still being light enough to enjoy on the hottest of summer days.

Plus, there is no need to turn on the oven or the stove, keeping your kitchen (and you) cool as a cucumber! You can enjoy this chilled soup as is, or add toppings like chopped jalapeños, cilantro, or creme fraiche and scoop it up with tortilla chips!

8 large tomatoes 1 large cucumber 2 cloves garlic 1 small sweet onion 1 jalapeño pepper ½ tsp hot sauce 3 Tbsp lemon juice 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 Tbsp red wine vinegar 1 ¼ tsp kosher salt ½ tsp ground black pepper 2 Tbsp parsley (fresh or dried) 8 oz lump crab meat 8 oz cooked shrimp, chilled (about 8-12 large shrimp)

*Optional suggested toppings include: cilantro, tortilla chips, chopped jalapeños, creme fraiche, or additional parsley.

Directions: 1. Cut tomatoes into large chunks, approximately 6-8 pieces each. Set aside.

2. Slice cucumber into thick slices. Set aside.

3. Mince garlic. Set aside.

4. Chop onion into medium sized pieces. Set aside.

5. Slice jalapeño pepper in half, lengthwise. Remove seeds if you prefer less heat. Chop jalapeño pepper and set aside.

6. Add tomatoes to large food processor. You may need to add about half of the tomatoes, pulse for a few seconds and then add the remaining tomatoes depending on the size of your food processor. Pulse tomatoes until chunky and slightly pureed. You will continue to puree the tomatoes once the additional ingredients are added, so do not pulse until completely smooth.

7. Add remaining vegetables (cucumber, garlic, onion, jalapeño pepper) to food processor with the tomatoes. Add hot sauce, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper and parsley. Replace the lid and pulse to desired consistency – the gazpacho should be pureed, but still somewhat chunky and not completely smooth.

8. Store in an airtight container and chill in the fridge for at least one hour before serving. If not serving right away, this gazpacho can be made in advance and stored in the fridge overnight or for a few days until ready to serve. If making this gazpacho in advance, purchase fresh seafood or thaw frozen within 1 day of serving to keep seafood fresh and store seafood separately, only adding when ready to serve. When ready to serve, chop the shrimp and add approximately 1-2 oz chopped shrimp and ~1 oz crab meat to each bowl. You can add optional toppings, such as chopped cilantro, chopped jalapeños, tortilla chips, creme fraiche and an additional sprinkle of parsley, if preferred. Enjoy!

Note: This gazpacho can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up for 4 days, without the seafood. Store seafood separately and add when ready to consume.

Styling a bookcase is a creative process that combines practicality with aesthetics. By using these tips, you can transform an ordinary bookshelf into a stylish, engaging focal point that complements your home’s decor while showcasing your personality and interests.

Step 1 Strategically Place Books on the Bookcase While Incorporating Decorative Elements.

When placing books back on the shelves, think about the arrangement, vertical stacks are more traditional, horizontal stacks more modern, or both for more visual interest. Adding decorative elements such as picture frames, vases, or sculptural objects to break the monotony.

Incorporating items with varying heights can create a dynamic arrangement. Use larger items like art pieces or baskets on lower shelves and smaller decorative objects higher up. Aim for a balanced look while avoiding perfect symmetry. This creates an organic flow, drawing the eye naturally across the shelf. Incorporate asymmetrical groupings for added interest, mixing textures, colors, and shapes.

Aura that Hits Different ROBERT RODDIE Robert Roddie was nineteen when he traded the gray streets of Glasgow for a soccer scholarship at Reinhardt University, started for four years, and then found a career at Georgia Impact he never planned on. Sixteen years later, he is the club’s Girls Director of Coaching and Director of Operations.

As a USSF B License holder, he led the Georgia Impact women through a 2026 Southeast Conference title and a first-ever South Region championship this season, beating two-time champions Pensacola FC 4 to 0. This run carried the club to the WPSL National Championships in Riverside, Missouri.

“My motivation to coach is to give my knowledge to players so they can be better prepared to play at the next level,” Roddie has said, and the players who came through the club would tell you he means it.

Off the field, Roddie lives on the Bridgemill side of Canton with his wife, Lauren, and their two children, trading a whistle for a soccer dad’s folding chair most weeknights. Each summer, he becomes something like a second father to college-age players billeted with local families, feeding them and driving them to weeknight practice. Cherokee County gained a winning coach and a strong male role model.

HUNTER MORRIS Hunter Morris measures a job well done the way the Army taught him: line by line, detail by detail, no shortcuts allowed.

Six years of service instilled a discipline that never left him, and these days it shows up in retaining walls that sit flush, sod lines cut clean as a fresh blade, and a maintenance schedule his clients could set a watch to. Morris and his wife, Anna, started MorGreen Landscaping as a husband and wife operation serving Canton, Woodstock, and the rest of Cherokee County, the kind of veteran owned, family operated business where the owner still answers the phone himself and walks the property before the crew ever leaves. Near Holbrook Campground, Morris has built a client list on word of mouth and repeat calls, the natural result of showing up when he says he will and leaving a yard better than he found it.

Drive through the neighborhoods MorGreen has touched, and the fingerprints are easy to spot, a retaining wall holding back a slope that used to erode every spring, a bed of pine straw laid so

precisely it looks stenciled, a lawn that finally drains right after seasons of standing water. None of it is flashy work. All of it is the kind neighbors notice at the mailbox, the reason MorGreen has grown from a one truck operation to a crew serving Canton, Woodstock, Milton, Alpharetta, and Ball Ground almost entirely through referrals. The past year brought the biggest project yet.

Hunter and Anna welcomed a newborn, and fatherhood has only sharpened his sense of purpose. Morris has started thinking about MorGreen less as a business he is building and more as something to hand down eventually, a name with his and Anna’s fingerprints on it that means something in Cherokee County long after any single job is finished.

He still answers his own phone. He still walks every property before his crew rolls out and after they roll away. Cherokee County has plenty of landscaping companies. It has one that answers to a veteran who measures success the way he was trained, one satisfied yard at a time.

Ashley, a proud Cherokee County native, has practiced family law, criminal defense, and juvenile law since 2011, earning a reputation for thoughtful advocacy and unwavering dedication to her clients throughout North Georgia. Last October, Northside Hospital quietly opened the doors of the Northside Hospital School of Radiology. No admissions essay, no fouryear commitment, just eighteen months and a promise. The hospital had watched radiology jobs pile up faster than anyone could fill them, so it opened the Northside Hospital School of Radiography, growing its own workforce, student by student. Tuition runs a fraction of comparable programs, and Northside Hospital offers further competitive discounts for students who join the organizational workforce. The first class graduates in December 2026.

The two people who built the Northside Hospital School of Radiography did not have years to plan it. Jamie Bailey, Program Director, and Abby Carter, Clinical Coordinator, joined Northside in mid-August 2025 and started building the program from the ground up almost immediately, writing curriculum, setting up the simulation lab, and lining up clinical rotations across five hospitals and more than seventy imaging locations statewide. The inaugural cohort walked into the classroom on October 20 and started clinical education the following week. We sat down with Jamie to talk about what that first year looked like, and why she believes this program is unlike anything else in the county.

Q: YOU HAD ONLY A FEW MONTHS TO BUILD THIS FROM NOTHING. WHAT DID THAT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE? A: It was fast. Abby and I joined in mid-August, and we were developing processes, resources, and systems while we were already teaching our first students.

Our students entered the classroom on October 20 and started clinical rotations the next week. Despite the pace, they showed up every day with enthusiasm and professionalism, and they have consistently exceeded what we expected of them.

in medical imaging. We see people from all walks of life, some students in their 40’s and 50’s looking for a career change. Then we see the other side of the spectrum, a fresh-faced 20-year-old ready to start their career and change the world.

Q: WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR STUDENTS? A: They start with lectures covering anatomy, patient care, and radiation safety, then move into our energized X-ray lab to practice positioning before they touch a patient. From there, they rotate through Northside's hospitals and outpatient centers, working supervised shifts alongside registered technologists until the classroom skills become second nature.

Q: WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT THIS FIRST YEAR? A: How much we grew right alongside our students. While they were learning the art and science of radiography, Abby and I were learning Northside's systems and building the foundation for every class after this one. It has been one shared journey of teamwork and growth, and watching our first cohort come full circle to become mentors. Beyond that, our real goal is for them to stay long after the guarantee ends.

We support this with modality internships and leadership development to ensure a real path forward. Some will come back as mentors and preceptors, which is the heart of what we are building here.

That leaves us in the limbo of wanting cool, refreshing drinks part of the time but also craving the deeper, spice-infused flavors of autumn. This recipe for apple cider sangria is the perfect blending of the seasons, leaving you feeling both refreshed and warmed through the deep flavors and interesting hints of spice. It’s a great drink to add to any dinner party, cocktail gathering, back deck after-hours get-together, or birthday bash. Here’s what you need to make the perfect mid-season cocktail to enhance whatever event you have planned.

Birdwatching Made Simple EXPERT TIPS TO MAKE BACKYARD BIRDING A FASCINATING AND PEACEFUL PART OF YOUR LIFE. ARTICLE BY MARSHALL ZWEIG | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED Thinking of putting up a bird feeder? You’re not alone. Backyard birding is the second most popular hobby in the U.S.—right behind gardening. Bob Gors of Wild Birds Unlimited in Macomb, MI, shares expert tips to help you get started—and get results.

START WITH THE RIGHT SETUP If you’re new to bird feeding, don’t overcomplicate it. Bob recommends starting with a tray feeder, either pole-mounted or hung. “It’s accessible to the widest range of birds,” he says, “and it lets you experiment with different seed blends.”

Before setting up, take a look at your yard. Birds prefer to feed near trees or shrubs where they can perch and scan for predators. “If your yard is wide open, it’s going to be harder to attract them,” Bob notes.

Quick Tip: Place your feeder about 15 feet from trees or shrubs to give birds a safe place to wait their turn.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SEED—AND SKIP THE FILLERS Not all bird seed is created equal. Bob advises avoiding blends with fillers like milo, wheat, or oats. “Those are agricultural leftovers. Most birds won’t eat them.”

Quick Tip: Choose fresh, unscented, unflavored seed. Birds don’t need additives—just what they’d eat in nature. Check the ingredients on the bag: sunflower should be the first ingredient—since it’s the seed most birds love.

KEEP UNWANTED GUESTS AWAY Squirrels causing trouble? Try safflower seed. “It tastes bitter to squirrels but attracts cardinals, grosbeaks, titmice, nuthatches and chickadees,” Bob says. Hot pepper blends also work— birds can’t taste the heat, but mammals can.

To deter large birds like starlings, Bob recommends using a cage around tube feeders to limit access. Tube feeders with small perches help discourage bigger birds. For tidier feeding, seed cylinders—compressed seed—are a great low-mess option.

Quick Tip: “Start simple,” Bob advises. “Watch what’s happening in your yard, then adjust as needed.” Unlike loose seed, cylinders make the birds work harder—and give you longer-lasting views of the birds.

WHY BIRD WATCHING STICKS Bob says many customers started birding during the pandemic—and never stopped. “They looked out the window and realized something was there,” he says. It’s remained part of their lives: one couple told Bob they still start every morning on the porch with coffee and birdsong.

“It became a ritual that many people now cherish,” Bob says.
