introducing upstairs bites
Brookhaven’s modern neighborhood steakhouse just got a new upstairs obsession. Upstairs Bites is our upstairs-only menu of bold, shareable plates and signature favorites — from the Arnette’s Wagyu Burger to the Astrea Caviar Doughnut, Pork Belly Bao Buns, King Salmon Avocado Roll, Spicy Bluefin Tuna Maki Roll, and a towering raw seafood selection. Available only in the upstairs bar at Arnette’s.
Refined ingredients. Rebellious spirit. Remarkably welcoming vibe.
Let’s Go!
When my youngest child abandoned me, I mean, started college, I took refuge in travel. He's now a college graduate, 20-weeks deep studying to become a Dekalb County Firefighter, and I continue to escape whenever possible.
Here's my list of favorite destinations, highly recommended for stunning locations, impeccable service, a laundry list of amenities and overall memorability.
1. Four Seasons Bora Bora - because you never forget your first over-water bungalow.

2. Montage Palmetto Bluff - biking through a tunnel of oaks dripping with Spanish moss, experiencing the best guest service ever.
3. Bay View, Michigan - a historic Chautauqua on the shores of Lake Michigan, my family's summer place.
4. The Point - puttering in a Budsin electric boat through the fog on Upper Saranac Lake in upstate New York, retiring to my bathroom with a 2-sided wood fireplace, radiant heat and tub with a view. And, a formal dinner in front of a roaring fire getting to know other guests at a family-style table.
5. Ritz Carlton Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico - my first butler service, swim-out suite and oh, that spa.
6. Under Canvas - any of their 14 locations near national parks will satisfy your craving for camping. Rainy nights in a "tent" are dreamy.
7. Zermatt, Switzerland - skiing in the shadow of the Matterhorn, strolling the cobblestone streets (no cars allowed!), buying chocolate and listening to the chatter of international visitors.
8. Four Seasons Jackson Hole - slopeside, hot tubs and a heated pool deck with cabinets full of heated towels and robes, fabulous service.
9. La Ceiba, Honduras - tropical rainforests and a burgeoning adventure travel scene (stay at Villas Pico Bonito) and a puddle jumper to the island of Roatán, a diver's paradise with a stay at Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort.
10. Grayton Beach, 30a - because after all, a vacation with family is best.
Enjoy this EXPLORE issue and keep on traveling!

Celebrating Our 250th
The Atlanta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated America 250! with a monument dedication at the Atlanta History Center’s Veterans Park. The beautiful morning was highlighted by a color guard in period dress and a crowd attired largely in red, white, and blue. The handsome monument commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country and honors the men and women of the American Revolution.

Restoring Piney Grove Cemetery
For generations, Piney Grove Cemetery has served as a final resting place for members of a historically Black community whose lives helped shape the cultural fabric of Buckhead. Recent efforts have focused on clearing vegetation to pave the way for future restorations - resetting displaced markers, repairing broken ones and identifying previously unmarked graves. These workdays have improved the condition of the cemetery and fostered a deeper connection between the community and the cemetery's history.

SCOTTSDALE’S CHARM

City Mouse, Country Mouse in Scottsdale

COURTESY OF EXPERIENCE SCOTTSDALE
The adorable Teddy Bear Cholla is equal parts puff and prickles, a fine disposition for a Sonoran Desert cactus. While the coat of silvery spines looks soft, each spine wears a menacing backward-facing barb and can jump onto the skin of an admirer who gets too close. She stands, curvy branches

among some 250 varieties of cacti and succulents in the Cactus Garden at The Phoenician Scottsdale. A magical paved trail skirts the resort, winding through Banana Yucca, Spineless Pricklypear, and our favorite, the Cow Tongue Pricklypear. Large sculptures by Native American artist, Allan Houser dot the property, complementing the landscape and showcasing the history and native culture of the Southwest. Houser was awarded the National Medal of Arts from President Bush in 1992 and this wide collection of his work is a destination in itself.
The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort in Scottsdale is spread across 254 acres, with 450 guest rooms, more than 100 elegant casitas, and a collection of luxury and presidential suites (all with Frette Italian linens). Eight pools, 18 holes of golf, an extensive athletic club (earning five stars from my super jock sister), pickleball, tennis and nine dining options keep guests happily on campus. The
Forbes Four-Star spa offers more than 30 wellness treatments, from head to toe. The pool, lounge, tubs, sauna and steam are just for spa guests (quiet, adultonly, meditative vibe). My 50-minute Restorative CBD Scrub provided nourishment and stress relief with an exfoliating and hydrating cranberry seed and hemp flower sugar scrub. A full-body application and massage follow using a blend of highly concentrated CBD Gold Oil. The ensuing bliss continued as we watched the sunset over the desert from the balcony of J&G Steakhouse. The meal was excellent but the service was the star of the show. salute to the Old West, with western-themed shops, art galleries, and enough margarita flavors to make your head spin.
The stand-outs though, are two museums on the same block. Our favorite is the Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West with art and artifacts that bring the nation’s Western heritage to life. The front gallery is all about the cowboy, from saddles to stirrups with a deep exploration of knives, bags, and boots. The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate and it shows.
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is a compact collection of color, shapes and boundary-pushing pieces that are refreshing and thought-provoking.
Sit and gather your thoughts over lunch at the nearby Pinyon Coastal Mediterranean where housemade pita is baked fresh daily and an array of hummus and dips could make a meal, but save room for the salads and pasta.
The culture, shopping and resort life is a vibe that Scottsdale has polished.
But, we wanted to flip the record and explore ranch life in the country too, so we checked into The Saguaro Lake Ranch, less than an hour of town in the Tonto National Forest. The 20 rustic cabins are lined up along a wide green lawn with a sparkling pool and a fire pit for guests. Down the hill are the stables, along the shore of the Lower Salt River. Yes, there’s kayaking in Arizona with access from the Ranch. You can hop on a kayak or SUP board and paddle a few hours, passing thousand-foot cliffs and majestic Saguaro Cacti in the Sonoran Desert. You’ll likely pass wild horses crossing the river and a plethora of birds flying overhead.
Meals are served family style, with guests sharing their excursions and inspiring one another to try it all - hike, bike, wander, paddle, or ride horses. There are no TVs in the cabins, so bring a book or borrow a Louis L’Amour western from the Ranch’s library to help settle into the scene.
Scottsdale has many faces. Meet them all.

OCEANS OF Color

SAILROCK SOUTH CAICOS

ARTICLE BY SEAN O'KEEFE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SEAN O'KEEFE AND SAILROCK, SOUTH CAICOS
I never know what to expect when I arrive at a new destination. That uncertainty, the held breath before a place reveals itself, is the whole reason I travel. Sailrock South Caicos did not make me wait long for the reveal.
From the moment I arrived, there was a graciousness that felt neither rehearsed nor performative; something warmer than hospitality, something closer to the genuine pride of a people in the place they call their own. Here, I felt less like a guest and more like someone who had simply been away for a long while and finally found my way back home. My adventure into the serene stillness of remote island life had begun and I immediately knew that I would never be the same again. Sailrock South Caicos is where luxury and the wilderness of the oceans meet.
I settled into my beachfront villa quickly to answer the call of the ocean. The salt-twisted and unruly sea grape pressed close against the terrace, doing exactly as it pleased. The scrub beyond it grows in whatever direction the wind has decided, conch shells litter the landscape. As I strolled along the water’s edge I cannot dismiss the feeling that I am being watched by everything on the land and in the sea. Much to my surprise a family of donkeys, a living tribute to the salt harvests of years past, emerges from it all with a confidence of creatures who inherited this island, their personal playground. They were unannounced and unbothered by the stresses of our world, inviting me to see into theirs.
Sailrock South Caicos is not a resort that has imposed itself upon the landscape of the 770 private acres of peninsula, perfectly positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caicos Bank. This is luxury blended with nature, not as an aesthetic choice but as a founding principle. This wonderfully beautiful, low-density luxury community exists in quiet conversation with the landscape and actively believes that nature, given room enough to breathe, is the finest amenity of all.
Ocean beaches and quiet coves are moments apart at Sailrock South Caicos.

Whether you choose the quiet sophistication of The Great House or the Cove Restaurant and Beach Bar, be prepared for an incredible dining experience. And for those guests who want something very special, private dining brings the chef and his masterful creations to your villa’s dining room. Later that night, at the beach, the marshmallow roast gathers everyone together on the warm sand to further relax into the Sailrock South Caicos experience.
Sailrock South Caicos occupies a peninsula of almost unreasonable geographic fortune. The Caicos Bank, one of the world’s largest shallow-water plateaus, spreads westward in every shade of turquoise, jade and sea foam green that exists, as far as I can determine, nowhere else on earth. Meanwhile, to the east, the Atlantic offers a pale aquamarine at the shallow water’s edge that drops into the cobalt blue abyssal of the Turks Passage, deep enough to offer respite to the humpback whales that migrate here from late January to early April both to breed and give birth. Charter a boating adventure into the deep Atlantic waters. Find Starfish Alley and stand among the gathered red, yellow and green sea stars in the warm, clear shallows. Hunt for sand dollars along the tide line with the focused joy of a child who has not yet learned to be too busy for small miracles. Make your
way to Iguana Island, where the iguanas, utterly unbothered by your arrival, watch from their limestone perches with one slow, prehistoric eye.
Slip a kayak into the Caicos Bank and paddle out across a stillness so complete the water seems sacred. The only sounds that accompany you on your voyage are the gentle winds and your breath. Stop to walk the sandbar where warm sands shift underfoot as the water barely whispers at your ankles. It is as if the sky meets the sea in every direction and that you are standing inside the horizon itself.
Explore the island’s interior by off-road vehicle, the scrub giving way to salt flats and unexpected vistas that remind you how wild and unspoiled this place truly remains. When the day calls you inward, step onto the outdoor yoga platform as the sun migrates from the Atlantic to the Caribbean Sea. The au plein air spa receives you like a long exhale, warm, fragrant, unhurried and restorative in the way that only genuine stillness can. At Sailrock South Caicos, every activity is an act of return. A return to the natural world. A return to the present moment. A return, quietly and completely, to yourself.

Elegance on the Gulf
Where Serenity Meets the Thrill of the Catch
Once again, Newman-Dailey Properties delivered with 3112 Sanctuary by the Sea in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, a spectacular four-bedroom condo that really captures the essence of refined beach living. As one of their many luxury rental properties, it blended elevated design with sweeping, panoramic views, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable stay.
Inside the condo, the decor is a sophisticated take on contemporary French country style, with contemporary and subtle beach-inspired accents. The palette blends warm neutrals with organic textures that evoke
both European charm and seaside serenity. Every detail has been considered to create a space that feels elevated, yet comfortable, suited for quiet mornings and effortless entertaining.
Just beyond the main living space, expansive doors open to a generous balcony that serves as a true extension of the home. From here, panoramic views stretch across a tropical oasis below, with two sparkling pools, a tranquil hot tub and the endless ocean horizon. “Sanctuary by the Sea residential vacation rentals offer a unique way to experience 30A like a local. one-of-a-kind luxury residence overlooking one of the area’s rare coastal dune lakes,” says Tracy Louthain, marketing director for Newman-Dailey Resort Properties. “The coastal dune lakes are not only scenic but also offer a wealth of recreational activities. In addition, guests enjoy access to all the property amenities, including two pools, hot tubs, a fire pit, fitness center and more. And while you feel tucked away in a pristine, quiet setting, you are just minutes from Grayton Beach, WaterColor and Seaside.”
The unit’s media room is a stand-out, centered around an oversized, floor-level sofa, seating up to ten guests to stretch out in complete comfort.
The kitchen is equally impressive, outfitted with top-of-the-line Viking appliances. My guests and I enjoyed the beautifully appointed kitchen and dining area, where we prepared the fresh fish we caught during our charter fishing excursion. The team at Newman-Dailey thoughtfully arranged a private outing for us just minutes away, departing from Grayton Beach.

“Guests are welcomed into a one-of-a-kind luxury residence overlooking one of the area’s rare coastal dune lakes.”
Early one morning, we all headed out in our sporty 50 SPF long-sleeve t-shirts courtesy of Crupi Legacy Fishing and met Captain Phil and Donna of Captain Phil’s Charters. We launched directly from the shore, heading out into the Gulf for several unforgettable hours on the water.
As a first-time angler, I was thrilled to land two fish on my very first attempt. We landed around 15 pounds of freshly caught grouper and red snapper, ready to be transformed into a memorable meal.
From the excitement of a memorable fishing charter to the unhurried pace of a few relaxing days on the beach, everything flowed.

Vacation Trends: Treehouses and Nature
Find your way to Skamania Lodge
A billowy willow tree was the home to my first backyard treehouse. There was a compact kitchen, a large bedroom with a view and a living room that seated up to three comfortably. The girls in the neighborhood would climb up, and we’d play house for hours.
Now, there weren’t actually floors, walls and windows, just a thick sturdy trunk, wide branches, knobby limbs and enough foliage for privacy. My dreams of having a treehouse have been on hold, but a recent visit to Skamania Lodge in Washington rekindled the joy of living among the branches.
Skamania Lodge is a resort destination along the dramatic Columbia Gorge in Washington, where outdoor enthusiasts and windsurfing warriors convene for good, clean fun. Skamania offers glamping, cabins, villas, lodge rooms and suites, nestled in a forest of tall Douglas Firs and overlooking the spectacular Columbia River.
The Columbia River Gorge is a breathtaking river canyon, 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep, that wanders past cliffs, spires and ridges set against nearby peaks of the Cascade Mountain Range. The Cascades’ geology creates a rain shadow effect, causing a dramatic difference in precipitation that
distinguishes the lush conifer forests at the west end of the Gorge from the grasslands at the east end. Fly into Portland and hike, windsurf, kayak, bike or hit up the breweries and small towns along the way to Skamania. While there, check out zip-lining, golf, spa days, forest bathing and a 17-station outdoor total body fitness trail on the campus.
Out and about, be sure to stop at Spring Creek Hatchery State Park in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and watch the crazy windsurfers and kiteboarders fly across the river in a flock of colorful sails and pure adrenaline. Skamania.com

SALUTING THE 21ST ANNUAL DESTIN CHARITY WINE AUCTION
The Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation (DCWAF) is pleased to announce that the 21st Annual Destin Charity Wine Auction presented by the Jumonville Family raised a record-breaking $4 million for children in need in Northwest Florida. The amount raised is a $550,000 increase over the previous year and the most ever raised at an auction in DCWAF history.
A sold-out crowd of more than 600 guests contributed, with proceeds from the auction to benefit DCWAF’s 16 partner children’s charities in Northwest Florida. This year’s auction marks 21 years of giving to children in need in Northwest Florida.
“This historic year for Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation is a powerful reflection of what happens when generosity and purpose come together. Surpassing $4 million is more than a record—it represents real, life-changing impact for children across Northwest Florida,” said DCWAF President Karah Young. “The energy in the room was undeniable, highlighted by our highest-ever single lot sale at an unprecedented $400,000—an extraordinary moment that speaks to the passion, generosity and unwavering commitment of our supporters. We are incredibly grateful to our patrons, vintners, sponsors and partners who continue to make this mission possible year after year.”

This year’s auction was comprised of 47 Live Lots, 17 Cellar Lots, 25 Super Silent Lots and 110 Silent Lots featuring rare wines, luxury travel experiences and many other one-of-a-kind items. The money raised at this year’s auction will be presented to DCWAF’s charity partners during a private check presentation ceremony scheduled for August at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa. The 10% Target Mindset
Jen Cohen ON THE PRACTICE OF ASKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT
Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.
“You have to be the CEO of your own life.”
FEATURING JEN COHEN

1 2
MAKE TEN ATTEMPTS
The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
STACK THE DECK
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.
3
DISCIPLINE IS A PRACTICED SKILL, NOT AN INHERITANCE
No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.
4
SELF-TALK ONLY WORKS WHEN THE BODY BACKS IT UP
Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.
5
NEVER MISS A MONDAY
The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.
