Every year, 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The mission of Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) is to educate as many people as possible about the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer because, currently, there is no early detection test for the disease. Early detection and treatment are vital to increasing survival odds. We were introduced to GOCA by Sean O’Keefe, and now have a 10-year partnership with the organization, supporting GOCA Shaken, Not Stirred Gala, the Teal Trot 5K and so much more. We've loved providing a platform to share GOCA's mission of education and awareness. You can support the GOCA mission by attending the annual Shaken, Not Stirred Gala on Saturday, March 11 at Georgia Aquarium. Proceeds from the event will allow GOCA to continue and expand ovarian cancer education and awareness across Georgia and beyond. To put it mildly, Drew Ellenburg is a “people person”. Once you meet him, you’ll know – he is the friendliest guy in town. Drew is one of six siblings, who all grew up working in the family retail furniture business. After college, he knew that he wanted to create something on his own. From the get-go, he had custom furniture in mind. In 1998, he and his wife founded the Ellenburg Chair Company and started making handmade chairs for high-end clients. Within a few years, he was manufacturing more than chairs with an expanded line including all upholstered furniture – sofas, sectionals, and beds. Today, Drew manufactures for clients from New York to LA. He and his wife Mary Elizabeth live in North Buckhead, just two miles from the early 1900s family homestead. Ellenburg Chair Company is

wholesale to the design trade along with retail online. Like most of the line, Drew names his products after clients. The “Jaclyn” sofa was named after Linen & Flax owner, and designer Chaz Easterly’s daughter. Chaz and Drew collaborated over a bowl of chili while L&F was still a dream for Chaz. The Jaclyn is a high-back sofa with a slight pitch. The waterfall skirt is a perfect spot to add trim tape. Retail $6800. It takes thirty-two full hides and nine weeks to make their Chesterfield sofa. The solid maple frame is built by hand, the springs are tied down eight different ways and the individual tufting of the leather is an art form. The Chesterfield is a classic frame style, perfect for the highbrow traditional client with an eye for luxury detail. Retail $9800.

The stately wingback chair is an updated version of the wingback we grew up with flanking the fireplace. Named the “King” after the King & Queen buildings near the Perimeter, the chair comes with a dainty counterpart named, of course, the “Queen.” The King chair sports a wood stained base, curved back rail, and insideout nail trim. Retail $2800. Custom sectionals are all the rage in 2023. Drew works with designers to create the perfect seating arrangement in a sectional sofa. This track arm sectional (opposite page) is the Bradley style with a fun pop of color incorporated as the welt. Retail $8,000-$25,000 depending on size. Every day, ADL Southeast is on the frontlines responding to incidents of antisemitism and hate across our country and, right here at home. “ADL Southeast takes a holistic approach to fighting hate and extremism in the states of Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee,” says Eytan Davidson, ADL Southeast Regional Director. “We monitor and expose extremists and hate groups and work in close collaboration with law enforcement to respond to incidents of hate and antisemitism.” ADL Southeast’s Torch of Liberty Award is presented annually to an individual or company that exemplifies ADL’s values and has helped shape Atlanta for the better. This year, ADL Southeast is thrilled to honor CEO Ed Bastian and Delta Air Lines at the Torch of Liberty Award Celebration

on Thursday, March 30, 2023. ADL’s Torch of Liberty will be hosted by Delta Flight Museum with catering by Affairs to Remember and musical performances by the Phunky Monkeys. The biggest fundraiser of the year, the Torch of Liberty Celebration, raises critical funds to help fulfill the mission to Fight Hate for Good”. The evening’s celebration ensures that the work to realize the vision continues. ADL’s ultimate vision for all is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or intolerance. Past notable Torch of Liberty honorees include Atlanta Hawks and CEO Steve Koonin, Arthur Blank and ATL United, The Coca-Cola Company, and the Metro Atlanta Chamber. This year’s event is co-chaired by Barry Berlin and Ilene Berman. Barry and Ilene were both introduced to ADL at a

time when they were looking to have more philanthropic opportunities as a part of their lives. Barry’s involvement came after meeting the regional director of ADL at an event in Atlanta a few years ago. “I offered to get involved and find a way to help the organization’s effort in Atlanta,” says Barry. “Antisemitism and other forms of hate have accelerated in recent years, so the timing of getting involved seemed particularly appropriate.” Ilene began her volunteer efforts over five year ago and has volunteered with the ADL Southeast “No Place for Hate,” and has served on the planning committee for ADL Jurisprudence Award Luncheon. Ilene is excited to co-chair the Torch of Liberty Award Celebration as it is different from the typical Atlanta fundraising event. “It really brings people together

and it celebrates our honoree in a way that is exciting and fun,” says Ilene. “So many different people who are all trying to raise money to fight antisemitism, bigotry, and hate come together for a very special evening.” Together Barry and Ilene bring years of experience, expertise, and passion to this year’s Torch of Liberty Award Celebration. Their work has created incredible momentum surrounding this year’s Torch of Liberty Award with corporations and individual donors from across Atlanta and beyond joining the celebration of ADL Southeast. Over the last ten years, City Lifestyle’s dedication to the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) has changed the way people think about ovarian cancer. Whether advertising the “Teal Trot” or “Teal to Heal” the stories in the magazines have always been about the survivors. Jim Newman, the publisher of Buckhaven, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek City Lifestyle magazines, along with Sue Collins and Karyn Slovin, have dedicated themselves to telling the stories of real people who live in our communities. “One of the key principles and goals of City Lifestyle is to support our community and give back as much as possible,” says Jim. “GOCA is the perfect partner.” “Our partnership with GOCA has been organic. The Baldwin’s home, built in the early 1930s is a veritable gallery for their broad art collection. Throughout the extensive renovation that took more than two years, Sandra guided the design with care and attention to ensure the art continued to be a focal point in the home. This month, they will host a High Museum Winemaker Dinner, setting round tables in the wide family room, formerly a back porch, facing their formal gardens. The setting will serve as a beautiful stage for the food, wine, art and friendships that make these dinners so special. The High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction was founded in 1993 and is the largest fundraising event for the High Museum of Art. It is the top charity fundraising event in Atlanta and the number one charity wine auction benefiting the arts. The Gregory R. Ammon Family Foundation, a private charitable foundation headquartered in the Atlanta area, has made a donation of $200,000 to the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Program. Through the financial contribution, the Ammon family hopes to help lessen the financial impact of breast cancer on patients and their families, by creating a more personalized and intimate experience as they navigate through their cancer journey and alleviating some of the outlying stressors of daily life, in addition to the already stressful experience of battling cancer. The cause is especially close to the heart of the Foundation and the family behind it. Stacy Ammon, wife of Foundation trustee Greg Ammon, was diagnosed with breast cancer just after her 30th birthday, almost two years ago, and received treatment at Northside Hospital Atlanta. “Northside Hospital made my experience – this awful experience – somewhat tolerable, so we really wanted to say thank you to the team there, along with patients going through the same battle I did,” said Stacy Ammon, now a breast cancer survivor. “I know all too well how tough the battle with cancer is in general, but especially during this time of year that is already difficult for so many people. We just wanted a way to help ease that burden for people, so we are very grateful to be able to contribute in some way.” The Ammon Family Foundation’s donation targets patients and the families of patients, who are currently going through breast cancer treatment and are having a hard time paying for the essentials of life such as groceries, transportation and childcare. “I started the Foundation as a way to give back and to help our community. Cancer is close to our hearts – not just because of Stacy’s experience, but also because my mother died from cancer when I was young. It is a cause that we are always going to support,” said Greg Ammon. “The foundation also aims to help the community in a variety of different sectors – whether it’s education, health care, entrepreneurship, research... the list goes on. Giving back to the community as a whole is what’s most important to us.” One benefit of her experience with cancer, Stacy says, is finding an outlet through her social media. “I started using my social media to raise awareness for breast cancer and encourage women to get regular breast exams,” says Stacy. “I’m grateful to be in the position to share my story.” Northside.com
