LIFESTYLE LETTER
Fear is a Liar Fear told me not to write this letter today. Not to open up to the thousands of people who might read this and judge me as good or bad, weak or willing. Fear told me “Hey, nobody reads this stuff anyway. Don’t waste your time. Just hit up ChatGPT and get on with your day.” Thanks to a song that gets a lot of play in my life, “Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams, I’ve become more aware of that voice in my head that says, “You’re not good enough, or you’re not worthy.” When it comes to health and wellness, especially mental and emotional health, that voice adapts to “this is just the way it is” or “man-up, and deal with it on your own.” Sometimes it says, “Finding help means you’re weak.” Reading the stories in this issue, I was reminded that I’m not alone in my fears. Fear is a powerful core emotion, and while it can keep us safe, it can also prevent us from doing what needs to be done to overcome issues that plague us over and over again. I hope you find the stories and testimonies you read here to be inspirational, uplifting, and encouraging. The stories we share in this issue involve people in our community who truly care about others. They take true joy in watching people overcome fear and experience real breakthroughs. They help people live life on another level. With that said, here are some things to carry with you into the new year: Pay attention: what does fear tell you? Cast your fear in the fire, because fear is a liar. You are worthy. 2 Timothy 1:7 - For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Your Publisher,

Once they became empty nesters, Lisa Schwab’s husband suggested snowbirding in Arizona and enjoying a well-deserved retirement. This sounded like a great (and warm) way to celebrate the next chapter in their lives, but Lisa felt that something else was on the horizon. She had been on her own journey with holistic health, which accelerated after her mother had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia several years earlier. “I believe God revealed to me that I would open a healing center,” she said. “At the time, I had no clue what that would look like and how we would get there. My husband thought I was crazy for pursuing something so big in this stage of life!” She was certainly led toward this dream in the coming months after finding herself in a conversation with a friend, lamenting at all the health problems surrounding them. Heavy on both their minds, that same friend shared two videos about the Energy Enhancement System (EES), Bio-Scalar Technology that has been extensively researched for 20 years by a rockstar lineup of medical, alternative, and integrative doctors and bio/quantum physicists. It wasn’t long before Lisa knew this was the direction she would be taking her next step. Let’s fast-forward this story a bit: in January of 2023, Lisa opened the Revival Energy Center in Broomfield, and it has paid off exponentially in the stories of lives that have been changed from local access to an EES. She also found a wonderful business partner in Trudie Crooks, who witnessed a friend’s post-surgery pain dissipate after a twohour session at Revival. What does the EES do? In short, an EES puts the body in an optimal environment to heal itself. It generates multiple energy fields, including “scalar waves,” which can allow cell regeneration, improve immune function, provide relief from pain, detoxify the body, elevate moods, and assist in balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain to increase energy levels.
The treatments last 2-6 hours and are easy, relaxing, and enjoyable. Client Ginny Brookhouser says, “You simply sit in a (large, comfy) recliner, relax, and let the machine do the rest.” Meditation, prayer, and naps are all very common in the treatment room. “I thought I would meditate for my two-hour session, but I quickly discovered the machine took me into a deep, restorative sleep, and I awoke refreshed.” Ginny claims treatment, which she began midApril, has made her better able to cope with day-today stressors. Cindy Bernard is another Revival client who was eager to share her praises of EES treatment. The retired nurse always believed strongly in traditional medicine but found her own health journey led her to become open-minded about alternative medicine and aware of its many benefits. Treatment at Revival began in desperation to alleviate abdominal pain and cramping due to IBS-D, which she lived with for 16 years. “I just had to live with it, and it was not much fun,” she says. “I made an appointment for an EES session, not really expecting anything… but what did I have to lose?” She has not had an episode of IBS-D symptoms since her two two-hour sessions back in May. “I literally feel like a new person,” she adds. “I have shared my experiences with so many… I am living proof that this works!” Lisa mentions they see significant improvements in neurological and emotional issues, but they have seen the quickest results in clients who suffer from pain and inflammation. This is not limited to adults or even humans. Just ask Gracie, an 8-year-old Sheltie, and her owner, Annette Bundy. Gracie suffered from monthly seizures and found relief at Revival. Annette praises the EES treatment: “She's been seizure-free for 5 months! I believe that, whether it was parasites or who-knows-what caused the seizures, taking her to Revival has healed her brain.” CONTINUED >

Although EES is effective on its own, Lisa and Trudie shared some advice on how to further enhance individual results: • Enjoy a Healthy Diet: Eat foods rich in nutrients and avoid processed foods and high fructose corn syrup. • Hydrate: Try for half your body weight in ounces of water per day. For example, a 120 person would drink 60 ounces of water. • Detox: The benefits of regular sea salt/baking soda detox baths for your body are aplenty, including flushing harmful toxins out, strengthening the immune system, and improving muscle function. Revival Energy Center has quickly found community in like-minded people who want restoration without having to depend on modern medicine. To this end, they have begun

partnering with other holistic modalities for dual-benefit events, including acupuncture, breath work, and sound healing. When performed in the EES center, these modalities are amplified, so participants receive the benefits of both energy recovery and, for example, a healing acupuncture treatment. “We all share a common goal: to help others heal,” Lisa says. “We look forward to more partnerships in the future and sharing the benefits with the community.” Being proactive and educated in self-care is key. Lisa and Trudie offer a wealth of information and treatment options to help people who are struggling to overcome a host of issues. Coach Jared and Coach Kyle (L-R)
F.E.A.R.L.E.S.S. Warriors OVERCOMING MENTAL AND PHYSICAL OBSTACLES AT WARRIOR CHALLENGE ARENA
ARTICLE BY JULIE WALKER PHOTOGRAPHY BY SARAH DAWN PHOTOGRAPHY
"Coach Kyle! Coach Jared! I did it!!” Imagine a child yelling this from across a busy room full of kids of all ages climbing, jumping and swinging their way through obstacles. The girl is so excited—she simply must tell her coaches what she just accomplished! “Way to go! We knew you could do it,” they holler, grinning from ear to ear, from across the room.

What a positive memory to experience for any child, coach and observer! It’s all in a day’s work for Coach Kyle and Coach Jared, two of the many coaches at Warrior Challenge Arena (WCA), a premier obstacle gym in Broomfield. WCA is “like America Ninja Warrior meets American Gladiator meets Wipeout.” That translates into a fun facility with over 150 challenging obstacles, unique equipment and fun games. Ninja Warrior Training Classes for ages 3-15 are one of the most popular offerings with classes available throughout the week. In these classes, the coaches guide and support kids as they build on their physical abilities and address their mental obstacles. Kids can explore and challenge themselves while receiving the support of coaches and a team of kids. WCA’s programs combine intelligence, education, teamwork and athletics in every class! WCA is all about building character and developing F.E.A.R.L.E.S.S. Warriors! Focus - Concentrate on the objective, not distractions. Effort - Always give your best. Finish what you start! Attitude - Respond with a positive attitude in all situations. Respect - Show respect to yourself and others at all times. Love - Use your strength, speed & wits to help others. Enthusiasm - Have fun! Be excited! Strength - Build your body as well as your mind. Smarter - Ask if there is a smarter way to conquer an obstacle. At any given class, these F.E.A.R.L.E.S.S. Warriors can earn challenge wristbands, which signify that a child has mastered certain challenges and is ready for the next level. One of the highlights for the coaches is seeing a kid move up—it’s a big deal! And the coaches make sure to acknowledge not just the kid’s success but also highlight the failures it took to get there. “It’s important for all kids to see that they too can overcome obstacles, so we talk about failures and successes,” said Coach Kyle. “The opposite of success is not failure—it’s quitting. Success comes from many failures. It’s important to recognize these failures and how they resulted in successes.” CONTINUED >

The mental component of a challenge is arguably a bigger obstacle than the physical. “As coaches, we encourage kids and give them the steps they need to overcome their challenges,” explains Coach Jared. “We meet a child where they are, which may mean starting with the basics. We give them modifications—without the shame they may feel elsewhere—so they can take a step forward.” All while having FUN, of course! Coach Jared takes a holistic approach to coaching, as he believes in anything that has people taking steps toward a better version of themselves. With a background in team sports, physical fitness and philosophy, his approach focuses on the whole person. “When people come to accomplish a goal, whether that’s to have fun, be healthy or overcome a fear, it’s a natural fit for me to believe in and encourage others. And there’s just something about the little things—remembering a kid’s name and epic high-fives—where you can just see their agency lift,” said Coach Jared. As for Coach Kyle, he’s always been into health and nutrition and was big into sports growing up. A former football and baseball player at Northwestern University, winning two Big Ten Championships, Coach Kyle knows what it’s like to work hard and overcome obstacles, and he brings that philosophy to the kids he coaches at WCA. His wife and three kids are usually with him at WCA, so it’s become a family ritual. Perhaps due to his creativity, athleticism and fun-loving personality, Coach Kyle started a ninja team in 2020 to compete in the Colorado Ninja League. The teams compete once a month at different gyms in the area. Coach Kyle started the team with four kids, which quickly grew to 24, then 39 and now there are 47 athletes from 6 to 50 years old. And just think—with Ninja Warrior possibly being added to the 2028 Summer Olympics, future Olympians could be right here in Broomfield!
22
K I D S COR N E R | FI TNES S
WCA also shows love to F.E.A.R.L.E.S.S. Warrior parents with an in-house plugand-play circuit, so they can get a workout in while their little warriors are doing their thing. Coach Kyle recalls the dad of a recent “Warrior of the Week” who began working out while his son was in class. In conversation, the dad mentioned how he was proud to be a role model for his son. Coach Kyle finishes
with, " As a father of three myself, I have seen the positive impact working out with and around my kids has. I know that being an example of healthy living has an imprint on them that they can take into adulthood. I look forward to years when I still have the health and fitness level to teach my grandkids ninja moves! I pray that more parents join us on this holistic wellness journey."

Dr. Bret Ellington
“It’s nice when a patient says ‘Thank you, I think you’re the first provider who’s actually listened to me.’” When Stephanie Adams was 16, she fell and fractured a vertebrae in her lower back. For 30 years she used conventional medicine to treat her pain, but due to the ramifications of pharmaceutical medications, she was looking for something that could reduce the side effects and lower her expenses. Adams began attending the Inner Balance practice run by Dr. Bret Ellington in Westminster, after being referred by a friend, for injections, micro-needling and acupuncture. Within one treatment, her symptoms improved, and she returned several more times to maintain her results. “I was shocked that after all the conventional medical treatments that I had received over the years, the treatments I received from Dr. Bret treated my pain as effectively and sometimes more effectively and with zero side effects,” says Adams.
Adams — who lives in Thornton and is a mom to three young kids — began using her former modes of pain management less and less frequently. Dr. Bret has seen many success stories like Adams’ over his more than 20 years treating patients for things like pain, anxiety, disease or chronic conditions. Dr. Bret decided to pursue acupuncture and holistic wellness as a career in his 30s when he saw his shoulder pain subside after his own acupuncture treatment. Then a California resident, he received his master’s degree in traditional oriental medicine in San Diego, then received his doctorate degree in Chinese medicine. He is certified in clinical nutrition and functional medicine. “It’s a nice combination of Eastern and Western medicine,” says Dr. Bret of his work. “I can use labs to find the root cause. “Her symptoms started improving drastically within two weeks.”

I like evidence-based medicine and prefer to test, not guess.” After his schooling, Dr. Bret successfully opened his own private practice in California before becoming the owner and medical director of 11 additional clinics. He has employed, trained and mentored more than 100 acupuncturists. Two years ago, he moved to Colorado to be closer to his mother and opened Inner Balance, located near 120th Ave. and Tejon St. “I realized a long time ago that I’m here to serve and to educate,” he says. “That’s my purpose on this planet.” Dr. Bret recalls two stories of patients who saw nearly immediate results in their debilitating conditions with acupuncture. One of his male patients had suffered a stroke and was struggling with his speech. He had run through all his available treatment options through his insurance. Dr. Bret began treating him and videotaped him speaking his name after each session. He began improving rapidly with acupuncture. “The changes over two months were just mind-blowing,” Dr. Bret says. Another of Dr. Bret’s patients was experiencing menopause and struggling with nearly 100 hot flashes a day. With a treatment plan that included
acupuncture, supplements and herbs, she began only having five hot flashes a day at most. “Her symptoms started improving drastically within two weeks,” Dr. Bret says. At Inner Balance, Dr. Bret offers several services focused on improving health and wellness including acupuncture, dry needling, injections and custom herbal formulas. He takes pride in his ability to fully listen to his patients and get them involved in their own treatments. “People have a lot of options out there for healthcare. One of the things that differentiates me is that I listen,” he says. “I really try to get to what’s going on with the whole person and put it all together. It’s nice when a patient says ‘Thank you, I think you’re the first provider who’s actually listened to me.’” Adams appreciated Dr. Bret’s holistic approach. “What I feel sets Dr. Bret apart from other practitioners that I have seen in the past is his willingness to listen to all of the history that brings you to his office and then come up with a treatment plan that treats you as a whole person,” she says. “I never felt like he was just going to do an injection and then send me on my way.”

DISCOVER BROOMFIELD Local Broomfield artist Linden Kirby entered his ”Discover Broomfield” painting (above) into the Broomfield Days poster contest. Although it did not win, Kirby would find his “abstract mosaic,” which depicts 10 different sites of life in and around Broomfield, would later be chosen by a Broomfield delegation and presented to the mayor of Ueda, Nagano, Japan, which is Broomfield’s sister city. Kirby, a native of Ohio but a Colorado resident for 49 years, first grew roots in Broomfield when planting Good News Community Church in 1980, which still serves Broomfield from its home

on 136th Ave. Watercolor is Kirby’s primary medium, but he enjoys the challenge of new media and techniques that improve the quality and enjoyment of art. He states that he “... finds inspiration most often in the beauty of God’s creation, so landscapes, trees, and nature are my favorite subjects.” Kirby believes that art touches the heart when it tells a story, evokes an emotion, or brings back a memory. Linden also enjoys teaching workshops, giving demonstrations for art clubs, and encouraging other artists. To learn more, head to ArtByLinden.com.
