The Explore Issue
We live in an efficiency and productivity obsessed age. And I admit - I fall into the trap sometimes too. The trap of believing the only things worth doing are those for which I can make an exact calculation of the time, effort, and investment it will cost me. The things that result in the highest level of control and the least amount of uncertainty.
But the truth is - that is really a sad and unfulfilling way to go through life.

We must leave some room for exploring, for trying new places and things, for being a beginner, even for getting lost. It is those times that are unstructured and open-ended where the space exists for connections to be made, friendships to be fostered, and trust to be built.
I've noticed that "adventures" and “exploration” don't have to be something big and crazy. It can be playing a board game out on the patio, walking a new trail, or going out to find a fun cookie place we've never been to before in a different part of town.
Our hope is that this issue encourages you to make room for exploration. To prioritize time away from the regular schedule of life. To lose yourself on a trail or in a book. To book that trip you’ve been thinking about, to make time for the things that matter most to you, but often come last on the calendar.

A NEW NASHVILLE LANDMARK
Nashville has no shortage of iconic venues, but The Pinnacle is raising the bar for live entertainment in Music City. Located in the heart of downtown, with its striking architecture, skyline views, and a lineup that spans genres and generations, The Pinnacle isn’t just any old venue. From chart-topping artists to up-and-coming acts, this is another feather in the city's musical cap. City Lifestyle talked with Anne Hack, VP of Operations and Mike Ducharme, Regional VP both for AEG River Cities to get your top questions answered.
WHAT INSPIRED THE CREATION OF THE PINNACLE, AND HOW DOES IT STAND OUT FROM OTHER VENUES IN NASHVILLE?
The Pinnacle was conceived as a state-of-the-art music venue to complement Nashville's rich musical heritage. Situated within the $1 billion Nashville Yards development, it aims to offer a versatile space for various events, from concerts to corporate gatherings. Operated by AEG Presents, the venue is designed to provide an intimate yet grand experience, featuring a 4,500-seat capacity and advanced production capabilities.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE VISION BEHIND THE DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE VENUE?
We see The Pinnacle being a complementary piece of the music landscape. A venue to showcase programming that resonates within the city's rich musical history and is simultaneously a home for all genres of music. Our aim is to become an artist and fan favorite and part of the fabric of the Music City scene.
The architectural design of The Pinnacle blends modern aesthetics with Nashville's cultural essence. The venue's exterior features a grand staircase leading to a mirrored "The Pinnacle" sign, which changes colors depending on the performer. Inside, the space is adorned with murals and installations from over 30 local artists, curated by Emily Cox and Jenn Ward, ensuring the venue resonates with the community's artistic spirit.
WHAT KIND OF ARTISTS OR GENRES CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE REGULARLY AT THE PINNACLE?
The Pinnacle is designed to attract touring acts across a broad spectrum of genres. The venue's versatile design allows for various event formats, including general admission, seated shows, and comedy performances.
HOW WILL THE PINNACLE CONTRIBUTE TO NASHVILLE’S ALREADY RICH
LIVE MUSIC SCENE?
By offering a venue with arena-scale production capabilities and a focus on artist, industry, and fan experience, The Pinnacle aims to enhance Nashville's live music offerings. Its central location within Nashville Yards, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and green spaces, positions it as a hub for both locals and visitors seeking diverse entertainment options. We want to be a complementary piece of the music and special events landscape in Nashville.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN BRINGING THE PINNACLE TO LIFE, AND HOW DID THE TEAM OVERCOME IT?
One of the significant challenges was integrating the venue into the existing Nashville Yards development while maintaining its unique identity. The design team focused on incorporating local art and materials to
“ITS CENTRAL LOCATION WITHIN NASHVILLE YARDS, SURROUNDED BY HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, AND GREEN SPACES, POSITIONS IT AS A HUB FOR BOTH LOCALS AND VISITORS SEEKING DIVERSE ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS.”
ensure the venue felt connected to the community. Additionally, the team worked on creating a flexible space that could accommodate various event types, from concerts to corporate functions.
HOW IS AEG WORKING WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND BUSINESSES AROUND THE VENUE?
AEG has partnered with local artists to curate the venue's interior art installations, curated by Emily Cox and Jenn Ward, ensuring that the community's creative talents are showcased. The venue also highlights local breweries and distilleries to offer authentic Nashville experiences to attendees. By integrating local elements into the venue's operations, AEG aims to foster a strong connection with the surrounding community.
CAN YOU SHARE ANY EXCLUSIVE DETAILS ABOUT UPCOMING OPENING ACTS OR EVENTS?
We will continue to have all genres represented to touch all music fans.

WHERE DO YOU SEE THE PINNACLE’S ROLE IN THE FUTURE OF LIVE ENTERTAINMENT IN NASHVILLE AND BEYOND?
The Pinnacle is poised to become a central figure in Nashville's live entertainment landscape. With its state-of-the-art facilities and diverse programming, it aims to attract a wide array of artists and audiences. AEG's track record with venues like L.A. LIVE and The O2 in London suggests that The Pinnacle could serve as a model for future entertainment districts, blending live music with community engagement and urban development. I believe concert tourism to be an exciting part of the music hub that is Nashville, and that feels like it's only going to grow. And of course, our audiences will also be patrons of surrounding downtown businesses. First off, there are so many great venues in Nashville, and we hope to be thought of in the same breath as them. We want this to feel like home to everyone in Nashville and beyond, a home that comes with the appeal that a bespoke, purpose-built music venue can offer. That's going to lead to people traveling here to see their favorite act, in a great venue, in a wonderful city where they want to spend the weekend.

Meet Madeline Merlo
Country artist Madeline Merlo has made waves in Nashville with her raw talent for songwriting and powerhouse vocals.

Rising Country star Madeline Merlo has won over the hearts of many with her powerhouse vocals, vulnerable lyrics, and captivating performances. Her most recent project, ONE HOUSE DOWN (from the girl next door), was released in October and gave fans a true taste of her natural talent. Growing up in a small town outside of Vancouver, Canada, the British Columbia native was raised in a household that always had a love for country music. Between spending her days riding horses and writing songs, Merlo dreamed of one day making it big in Music City.

“I started coming back and forth to Nashville when I was sixteen - pretty much [as soon as] someone told me there was this mythical land called Nashville where you could write songs for a living,” Merlo shares. “It was so mind-blowing to me… I couldn’t believe it was people’s jobs.”
At only eighteen years old, Merlo signed a record deal in Canada and began earning radio play, tour slots, and award nominations. In 2017, the songstress packed up a U-Haul and officially made the move to Nashville, eager to learn and grow as a songwriter.
Merlo recalls the game-changing moment in her career when she got a phone call to be on NBC’s show, Songland . Finding herself in Los Angeles on a whim, she had the opportunity to play an original song for iconic country music trio Lady A, in hopes they would choose her ballad to record. Immediately, her voice and lyrics caught the band’s attention, and her track was chosen - little did she know then, “Champagne Night” would soon become a three-week number one song for Lady A!
“It’s such a gift,” Merlo says, on the reaction of her song. “When you’re writing [the song], you have no idea that it’s going to bear so much fruit for you in the future. It’s so surreal… this is everything I’ve ever wanted to do.”
While a songwriter at heart, Merlo has had vocal features on songs from award-winning country artists Dustin Lynch, Cole Swindell, and Jelly Roll. Most recently, Merlo teamed up with Lynch again - only this time, to feature him on her own EP! The pair performed their song, “Broken Heart Thing,” together live for the first time ever at Merlo’s Grand Ole Opry debut this October - a moment that was a huge honor and bucket list moment for her.
“It was just as magical as I imagined it would be,” she shares of her Opry debut. “That place has so much history and is so legendary… to be invited into the circle that every artist I’ve ever loved and looked up to has stepped inside just meant so much to me.”

“I had a career up in Canada first, but I really wanted to learn how to write great music… I always had Nashville on my heart.”

by Robby Klein

Reflecting on the strong presence country music had throughout her childhood, Merlo shares her lifelong admiration for strong female artists such as Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift, to name a few. While country music has always been at the forefront, Merlo also takes influences from John Mayer and The 1975, in addition to Motown artists, such as Etta James and Billie Holiday. She has always loved songs that tell a story, and she hopes to continue to share and inspire others through her own.
“The artists that inspired me the most growing up were all very brave and unapologetically themselves… I think as women, our voices need to be heard on the radio and in the world! In my music, I want little Madeline to feel like if she had heard it, it would encourage her to be herself, and I hope my music can do that for other aspiring artists,” she shares.
Be sure to keep up with Madeline Merlo on socials and listen to the ONE HOUSE DOWN (from the girl next door) EP available now on all streaming platforms!

DESIGN a life you LOVE

Meet Marie-Joe Bouffard, Founder and Principal Designer of full-service interior design firm, JFY Designs.
Marie-Joe Bouffard has always had an eye for style. Raised in Quebec City, Canada, her parents brought her along on all their adventures, teaching her the values of culture, language, and way of life at a very young age. As a mother of two of her own, Marie-Joe and her husband wanted to instill the same values in their own children, and traveling the world has since become a hobby for all of them to enjoy together. After moving to Texas from Montreal in 1998, the entrepreneur taught herself the ins and outs of interior design, spending her days turning their house into a home. Her timeless, classic style caught the attention of friends and neighbors who immediately inquired about hiring her to implement the same touch to their own homes. After moving to Nashville in 2003, her career took flight.
An advocate for curating personal and serene spaces, Marie-Joe is keen on reflecting personal tastes and styles into her clients’ homes. Whether it’s taking inspiration from the elements of food, patterns, or textures, she continues to implement the distinction of customs and traditions into both her home and studio. Combining her passion for design and travel, Marie-Joe loves collecting items to help tell her story. TOASTING TO WOMEN IN WINE: GIRLS' GETAWAY TO SONOMA’S WOMEN-LED WINERIES
Wine About It

“My passion is to help develop other women in the wine industry.”
Despite the fact that women make up a vast majority of wine consumers, only 12-14% of winemakers globally are women. Companies like Foley Family Wines & Spirits are not only aware of this statistic but are actively working to shift the narrative by supporting and promoting women in key leadership and winemaking roles.
What better way to celebrate the incredible women shaping the future of wine than by planning a girls’ getaway to wine country? Whether toasting to friendship or just in need of a weekend escape, this itinerary is the perfect way to experience the best of wine country while visiting women-led wineries. From immersive tasting experiences with female winemakers to a much-needed spa day at the hotel, every stop is a celebration of talent, passion, and perseverance of women in wine.
Grab your girlfriends and raise a glass to sisterhood and sustainability - this wine country girls’ trip is one you’ll never forget.
WHERE TO STAY - MACARTHUR PLACE
HOTEL & PLACE:
MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa is an award-winning, luxurious, boutique resort nestled in the heart of Sonoma, California. Sitting on six acres of intimate gardens, winding flagstone paths, verdant archways, fire pits, secret nooks, and verdant tree canopies, it’s the perfect place to unwind, reconnect, and indulge during a girls' trip to wine country.
Offering spa treatments, high-end dining, and easy access to some of the region’s best women-led wineries, MacArthur Place creates an unforgettable setting for relaxation, celebration, and meaningful connection. Making it the ultimate home base for a girls' trip filled with wine, wellness, and lasting memories.
The resort is also located within walking distance of the Sonoma Plaza, making it easy to venture off-site,
whether on foot or by bike, to explore the charm of downtown Sonoma, its local shops, tasting rooms, and small businesses.
WHERE TO DRINK - BELLE TERRE TASTING EXPERIENCE AT CHATEAU ST. JEAN:
No girls’ trip to wine country is complete without an unforgettable tasting experience. What better place to start than with the Belle Terre tasting experience at Chateau St.Jean, a winery that’s a shining example of Foley Family Wines & Spirits’ commitment to uplifting women in the wine industry.
This stunning estate offers more than breathtaking views and delicious wines. It symbolizes progress, inclusion, and passion. Guests can sip their way through a curated selection of wines while celebrating the women who help bring them to life, both in the vineyard and behind the scenes.
“Our consumers are oftentimes women,” Mari Wells Coyle, the VP of Winemaking of Foley Family Wines & Spirits, says. “Our coworkers and colleagues are women. A much higher percentage of women are working in the laboratories. Working in an environment like Foley Family, where it's led by Bill's daughter, Courtney, and for her to understand and see the capabilities of the women around her. We certainly have a very large percentage of women in leadership positions, and over 50% of our winemaking team is also women.”
In 2025, Foley Family Wines & Spirits launched their Women in Wine Scholarship Fund, which was awarded in partnership with the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas at Chateau St.Jean during the CMS - A Women’s Sommelier Symposium. The $10,000 fund was distributed among ten female sommeliers selected to attend the Symposium, which was held for the first time in Sonoma County, California.

Mari Wells Coyle
“The Foley family is so committed to women in leadership, and, you know, we are members of the Women for Wine and Spirits organization,” Mari says. “Then this year, for the first time, we launched our women's scholarship. It's just incredible to see that we're investing in the younger generation, the next generation of women in wine, and to see the response, you know, from the candidates, was really, really, really special. I mean, there were a lot of tears, and I think it's just an amazing commitment that Courtney is making to ensure that, you know, we are welcoming women in our industry.”
This scholarship covers the cost of the Advanced Sommelier Practical & Tasting Examination, or one of the segments of the three-part Master Sommelier Examination.

“I think it's just like a lot of industries where maybe at one time, most of the leadership positions were primarily men,” Mari says. “But now, we understand, we learned from other women before us, what it takes to lead teams, and go after the positions that you're most interested in, and my passion is to help develop other women in the wine industry.”
WHERE TO DRINK - CHALK HILL VINEYARD OVERLOOK WITH CHEESE & CHARCUTERIE:
After sipping your way through Chateau St. Jean, continue your wine country journey by stopping at Chalk Hill Estate, another standout in the Foley Family Wines & Spirits portfolio. Nestled in the hills of Sonoma County, this scenic estate offers a truly elevated tasting experience. Enjoy oneof-a-kind views while savoring expertly paired wines with a curated cheese and charcuterie board.
But this experience is about more than just stunning views and world-class wine. With a winemaking team that includes talented women in key roles, Chalk Hill is a perfect example of the Foley Family’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation. Even more impressive, both Chalk Hill and Chateau St. Jean – along with every winery in the Foley Family Wines & Spirits portfolio – are proudly certified sustainable. Soak in the sun, sip with purpose, and toast to the ambitious women shaping the future of wine, one glass at a time.
WHERE TO EAT - DINNER AT LAYLA:
Indulge in a luxurious dining experience just steps from your room at MacArthur Place, with no need to leave the comfort and elegance of the hotel grounds, thanks to their on-site restaurant, Layla, which is led by Executive Chef Eric Piacentine.
Layla features a range of simple, fresh, healthy options in addition to richer, more indulgent fare. Seasonal farm-fresh ingredients, colorful wild garnishes, and custom ceramic plateware reinforce the warm, convivial ambience of the restaurant.
From the perfect morning pick-me-up to a savory, unforgettable dinner, Layla offers a full range of dining options, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Whether you’re seeking a casual bite or a fine dining experience, Layla’s inviting atmosphere and seasonal
offerings provide the perfect setting for every occasion throughout the day.
WHERE TO RELAX - 50-MINUTE RAPID RECOVERY TREATMENT AT THE SPA AT MACARTHUR:
Nestled in the heart of MacArthur Place’s fragrant gardens, The Spa at MacArthur offers a unique array of treatments based on the fruits, flowers, and herbs grown in the property’s gardens.
Guests can indulge in massages, facials, and body treatments designed to rejuvenate and relax. Their 50-minute Rapid Recovery Treatment was specifically designed to destress and relieve sore muscles with therapeutic bodywork and stretching, and also includes targeted LED light therapy to address areas of inflammation.
Wine country has always been a place to slow down, savor, and connect. However, this itinerary highlights the passion, progress, and purpose of a more inclusive wine industry. As you head home feeling refreshed, you’ll leave with more than just great memories, you’ll also leave with the stories of the women behind each pour.

One of these children is Blessing. At seven months old, she weighed only 4.6 pounds. When the organization heard about her condition, she was taken to a nearby hospital for stabilization. Once Blessing was stabilized, she was brought to the Love+ One Center, where she received around-the-clock care. After a few months at the Center, she weighed a healthy 18.7 pounds and continued to meet all of her developmental milestones. Blessing has now been reunited with her family and is thriving.
Of course, all of this care takes a village of people. “When we started, it was just me and my mom,” she says. “Now, we have six full-time staff stateside, and our staff in Uganda is over 100.”
Last year, her sister Annabelle came on board and leads the ambassador program. There are a total of 442 ambassadors, and 41 of them are in the Nashville/ Brentwood/Franklin area. These ambassadors assist with fundraising, advocacy, and awareness.
Donations are always needed as well. A dollar goes a long way in Uganda, and as little as $20 a month provides a nutrient-dense meal for 10 malnourished children.
Today, JosieLove is doing great. “She's starting college at Lipscomb University in the fall and will be in their IDEAL program,” says Grace. “She's super independent and high functioning.”

GIVE YOUR HOME A LOOK of prestige

A PROFESSIONAL TEAM THAT CAN BRING YOUR VISION TO LIFE
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY

Before going back to college to study computer information systems, Scott Harris worked in the construction industry. Then, in his last year of college, he took the summer off to build decks and fences to earn some extra cash. He did so well that he decided to get his contractor’s license.
In 2007, he founded Prestige Remodeling Solutions in Nashville, and today, he’s the owner of four different locations. “I couldn't see myself being a computer programmer for the rest of my life,” he says. “I like the creativity side of this business, seeing things come to life from a homeowner's imagination to actually getting it on a set of plans and seeing it realized.”
Prestige offers a wide range of services - from kitchen and bathroom remodeling to building sunrooms, garages, additions, and more. Scott’s team can perform all necessary tasks to create beautiful and functional homes.
Being successful in business for so long didn’t just happen. Scott’s always had plans in place to produce high-quality results. He knows that homeowners are often wary when it comes to hiring contractors because they frequently hear about or have had bad experiences.
“I remember saying to my brother [Jon, his production manager] that in order to be the best, we have to have the mindset that we are the best.”
He and his team of project managers hold regular production meetings and conduct pre-site walkthroughs to ensure everyone is on the same page.
“We have an engineer that we've worked with for years. We permit everything that requires a permit, and we always do things the right way and follow the correct path. It protects clients and also lets them know we’re a legitimate company.” CONTINUED
Clients are also part of a group text with estimators and project managers throughout every job, so there’s never a time when they’re going to be in the dark about anything. This communication, explains Scott, is one thing that sets the company apart.
“You want your homeowners to be engaged, you want them to be involved in the selection process because it makes them feel invested,” he says. He and his team also understand that some of the homeowners they work with have saved for years to complete a project, and they take that seriously.
Even with all the attention to detail, when it comes to remodeling and building, sometimes things don’t always go as planned. “It’s not a perfect process, and we always try to set that expectation that we're on this journey with them,” says Scott. “If something's not right, we're going to make it right.”
of the products we use, and it’s clearly on us, we're going to fix it,” he says.
One of his most beloved projects is through the Department of Veterans Affairs. “It's called specialized adaptive housing, and the vets get grants to make their homes handicap accessible. We've been doing those since 2007, and it's probably my favorite part of what we do.”

If an install were to fail two years down the road and it’s outside the warranty period, the client is usually out of luck. But not with Prestige. “If it were, say, a shower leak, which is so rare because
When not working, another thing Scott wholeheartedly enjoys is spending time at his mini farm, located in the Mount Juliet area, with his menagerie of animals.
“We have a little bit of everything, including four dogs and this crazy cat, Monster,” he says. “He totally runs things. I got him as a barn cat, but now he stays inside every night.”
Luckily, his talented interior designer/social media and marketing person, Molly Sharpe, also doubles as what he laughingly calls his “fur nanny” when he goes out of town.

TENNESSEE LAKES FOR LEISURE
You don’t have to travel far to explore someplace new
Become a local traveling connoisseur by camping, fishing, hiking, or boating at any of our many Tennessee lakes. Although Tennessee has a plethora of lakes, rivers, and campgrounds, here are four lakes you can adventure closer to home.
FALL CREEK FALLS
Park visitors can rent paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes currently through October. Activities include: biking, birding, boating, fishing, golfing, hiking, rock climbing, naturalist-led programs, educational experiences, and swimming. Lodge amenities come with private balconies, restaurants, lounge areas, a heated outdoor pool, fire pits, lake access, an 18-hole golf course, and an EV charger. What a relaxing, calm, and enjoyable experience away from the city, work, and stresses of weekday living. And don’t forget to waterfall chase with the many outdoor cascading showers, one even boasting a 256-foot drop.

RADNOR LAKE
Radnor is a quiet hideaway gem for bird-watchers, animal enthusiasts, nature enthusiasts, and hikers. They house bald eagles and owls in their nature preserve. There are so many species of animals to catch and spy on while taking a stroll on one of the hiking trails. Nature photographers will love the peace, stillness, and natural surroundings as they look at capturing a moment in nature from one of the many creatures who call this park home. Otters, turtles, birds of various species, deer, wildflowers, bubbling brooks, waterfalls, and lake views are all great shots. It’s your own National Geographic moment, locally.

PERCY PRIEST LAKE
Percy offers horseback riding, picnicking, wildlife watching, swimming, sailing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, water skiing, hiking, biking, boating, and camping. All types of water vehicles are welcome, from paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, sail boats, power boats, and houseboats. Boats ranging from pontoon party boats to ski boats are available for rent. There are developed campgrounds and also primitive camping on designated islands for those who want a more rugged experience. Fishing is the favorite activity on the lake, and make sure to bring your fishing license. The types of fish found in the lake include striped bass, white bass, smallmouth and largemouth bass, Cherokee bass, sunfish, catfish, trout, and bluegill. Straight from the lake to the grill or campfire, you can catch, keep, and cook.
REELFOOT LAKE
This 15,000-acre natural lake is the biggest lake in Tennessee. Reelfoot offers scenic pontoon boat tours all summer through September. Reelfoot Lake is a flooded forest with stately Cypress trees extending upward from the lake’s waters below. The park is rich with wildlife and plant life. Naturalists can enjoy the wild setting by traveling along several hiking trails. Also, in the fall season, hundreds of white pelicans migrate to the lake and create a wondrous sight to observe. Two campgrounds are available and have full amenities ready for a cozy night around the campfire. You can roast hot dogs and enjoy a s’more or two. On July 5th, they will be having a sunset fireworks pontoon tour.
