Bliss Home design consultant Samantha Baker described a boom in home office pieces in light of the recent influx of people working from home. Many people decided to dedicate entire rooms to a new home office while some people have just created office space in other areas of their home, like their living rooms and dining rooms. Samantha says, “People are purchasing everything from desks and bookcases to office chairs even if they have just a small area to make into an office.” One increasingly popular feature that also developed out of the pandemic is extremely durable fabric and material, or “performance fabrics.” Bliss Home offers pieces featuring a durable fabrication process that’s very popular and makes cleaning furniture incredibly simple. Even a navy blue or black fabric can be cleaned deeply and won’t reveal the trace of treatment. As far as colors go, one trend is the transition from cooler neutrals, such as different shades of gray, to warmer neutrals, such as taupe, tan and gold. Warm neutrals are being used in woods, flooring, upholstery and in paints. “People are beginning to mix grays in with their warmer neutrals, and we’re moving out of that obsession with it,” says Samantha. One may want to incorporate some cooler neutral pieces, such as a gray pillow, to accent newer, warmer pieces of furniture like a beige sofa or a tan chair. Style-wise, a popular detail in furniture right now is cane. Cane was popular before in the 1940s and later in the 1980s and is resurrected once again to lighten up homes this year. “We’ve got it all over our showroom, and people are eating it up,” says Samantha. Animal rescue operators say they worry that as new pet owners head back to work on-site, some might not have time or want the responsibility and cost associated with an animal. That could lead to some dogs being returned to shelters, but officials advise new pet owners to prepare themselves — and their newly adopted pet — to the realities of “normal” life following these unusual pandemic situations. One tip is to leave dogs alone in a crate or other area for up to an hour at a time so they get used to being alone. Experts also encourage pet owners to let their dog become accustomed to a walker or neighbor before they need assistance from that person on a consistent basis. Keep in mind certain dog types are more prone to separation anxiety due to genetics, such as herding and guarding breeds. “Socializing dogs is crucial, so we recommend new dog owners work with reputable trainers or take their four-legged friends to doggie daycare or only controlled environments. It’s important to realize that dogs easily get bored and need to burn off extra energy. Many dogs need ‘jobs’ to do to help keep them happy,” says Sara. It was really important for us to keep the name since it’s such an icon in Brentwood.” “One of the things that was important is that we did not lose the character of the time frame, and that we kept a certain culture here of a small general store in Brentwood,” says Jeremy. Their focus was to re-create an old momand-pop feel, a place where everybody knows your name. When you walk into the open and brightly lit store, you’ll hear honky tonk music and see a big wooden farm table, or, as they call it, the community table. This is where people can sit for a quick bite or wait for their orders. “You’ll see all kinds of people sitting there and that’s what I love about this place,” says Hailey. “It’s really sweet because community happens at that table. I think this has become the purpose and feel of this market.” Fittingly, a sign hanging over the table states, “The best memories are made when gathered around the table.” Along with community, the Market offers breakfast and

There’s delicious carrot cake, strawberry cake, caramel cake, maple pecan pie and homemade fudge brownies, which are mostly made from family recipes. Besides items you would expect to find in a convenience store such as chips, soda, and candy, what makes Brentwood Market special is what else you will find on its shelves. “We have organic Amish eggs and butter, and during the summer, we bring in Amish home grown vegetables,” says Hailey. In addition, the store carries locally made dairy milk and honey. The Market also has special holiday menus and holiday items such as chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day and Easter-themed sugar cookies. Hailey is continually coming up with new and fun ideas.

Many people, explains Cynthia, don’t realize that clutter causes increased stress in their lives. “It’s not about the stuff; it’s really about what the stuff is causing in the household. It has an effect on you. You’re not being as creative, you’re less productive, and it’s affecting relationships.” Both women feel that if you want to be productive and reach goals in your life, it’s very important to have a calm, peaceful space where you can go and do what needs to get done. Being organized is also about time management; when you have to search for items in order to do a job, you’re wasting precious time. For organized spaces to stay organized, Its ARRANGED also offers monthly maintenance visits. They understand it’s sometimes hard for people to stay on top of it. Here, Amy and Cynthia share some tips on having a better-organized, well-designed and beautiful space: + Evaluate the space you have. Things you use on a regular basis should be in your key real estate. It’s really about creating the function and flow that works for you. + Look for opportunities to maximize your space. It’s really important to not just focus on horizontal space, but to utilize vertical space as well. And there are also dead-space opportunities that can be repurposed. For example, the back of a pantry door can be used for storage. Or, in a cabinet, you might have 20 inches of height but you’re only putting things on the bottom level. Here’s a chance to create a second shelf, another tier, or a drawer system inside this cavity. + Put beauty to work. In an office, a good work flow is of course super important, but so are aesthetics. That’s where you spend hours of time, so make it a place you want to go and feel good in. And don’t forget about lighting; you need to be able to see what you’re working on. + Identify the one, two, or three things that you must get done in a day and know the night before what those things are. And don’t constantly look at email. Set certain times aside throughout the day to check and respond to emails. So that’s what she did, selling mainly beach towels made from Turkish cotton. She also offered a small range of bath towels, and it was these that became her best sellers. After marrying Chris Bullard and moving to America, Lou rebranded the company in 2021 to focus on bath towels instead of beach towels. The new name, CALOU, was derived from Chris and Lou. These luxurious towels are designed in Nashville by Lou and by the manufacturer, with a major focus on color and texture. “It’s about putting ourselves in the minds of our customers and doing what they would like,” says Lou. Turkish cotton, explains co-owner Chris, has longer thread fibers that allow for high absorbency and fast drying, so towels don’t get that musty smell. They are also safe on skin. “Our towels are certified at Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, which is a chemical inspection company,” says Chris. “Plus, they are absolutely gorgeous and so soft. I feel like a king when I wrap myself in these bath sheets. No matter the home we live in, we’re proud of it. When we look on the wall and see something beautiful and it feels great to the touch, it brings about a good feeling.” And Chris says CALOU is much more than a textile company. “We’re about giving people the opportunity to indulge themselves. Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. “You only get one body,” he says. “Golf is a grind, but don’t let physicality get in the way of your game,” Scott says. 86
