Chef Dustin Brandt says, “The menu writing process for my private dinners start with me asking my clients what their likes, dislikes, or favorite ingredients may be.” Brandt then creates and discusses a menu draft, ensuring the meal is planned to perfection. “Every menu is unique and designed with my client's taste in mind. It keeps things fresh knowing that each menu will never be duplicated,” says Brandt, who owns and runs the company with his wife Andrea.

Brandt says, “Working in restaurants and coming up in a culture that lacked the focus on a healthy work life balance was part of the inspiration to start Underground Fine Dining. I wanted to find a way to share my passion without sacrificing 80 hours a week in a kitchen." Travel and the freedom to create flexibility were key. “I simply wanted my world to become more unpredictable which I believe leads to evolving inspirations.” The company’s cuisine has a strong background of French and Italian, influenced with inspirational flavors uncovered while living and studying food in Mexico and traveling throughout Southeast Asia. What sets Underground Fine Dining apart is how they embrace spontaneity. “There are no rules, leaving no boundaries on where, when, or how a dining experience may come together,” says Brandt, iterating they’ve cooked on houseboats in the middle of nowhere, on cross country tours doing pop up dinners with bands, at beer pairing dinners tucked inside brewery warehouses and more. “We’re always up for an adventure.” Our CCL Creative Director Alexandré Hooson experienced

The balance of energy with the cooking, serving, presentation of each dish, and clean up was seamless. I felt like we could do this every week." She adds, "The colors of the food, the balance of textures and flavors was artful. There was a minimalist approach to the experience while at the same time, the flavors popped and the night was abundant."

TODD REED: To wear a piece of Todd Reed jewelry is to know that you are wearing something that is truly wearable art. An artist that uses jewelry as his medium, his style is known for creating a signature tension between old and new by selecting raw and natural-colored diamonds set within recycled metals. Every piece is made by hand with a unique process using only the finest materials and ethically sourced, conflict-free stones. In addition, Todd Reed and his team have created a process that is as unique as his designs. In collaboration with his master jewelers, the concept of the signature “Forged As One means that each piece has a system of monograms (hallmarks) created for each master jeweler. Truly an artist and artisans in collaboration, each style has a unique essence that makes every design one of a kind. Todd Reed and his team recently moved his iconic showroom and studio to a new space just down the street to 1911 Pearl St., right in time for the holidays. In this new space, you know that you will have the opportunity for a luxurious and personalized experience. One of the unique delights in stopping by Todd Reed is that you have the chance to see the process come to life through the shared studio and showroom space. Getting a glimpse into the workings of a vibrant, active studio is an experience in harmony with the ethos of Todd Reed as an artisan jeweler. ToddReed.com

ELEMENT 79 JEWELRY: Carol Ferguson established Element 79 Contemporary Jewelry in Cherry Creek after 20 years as an established bench jewelry specialist and custom jewelry designer. After noticing that Denver lacked a space that highlighted jewelry designers creating the most current and elegant designs with the highest craftsmanship, she opened up Element 79 to bring her inspiration to the community. Known for "jewelry with soul," Element 79 is a fun, relaxed environment that invites the guest to spend time getting to know each designer they carry without pretension—including Carol's customizable E79 Private Label. Carol and her team have curated the best jewelry selection, and they work to ensure that each piece speaks to the wearer. In an era where transparency is key, Element 79 is committed to environmental responsibility, representing designers who use only ethically sourced stones and metals. This year, as we aim to support our local businesses even more, Element 79 makes your shopping experience as uncomplicated as possible. The team has created a custom gift guide on their site with specific ideas on what to gift those special people in your life. Since plans are uncertain this year, they are excited to help their guests "ring" in the New Year with their exceptional collection of rings, including their new bridal salon that serves as a shop within their shop. This year has certainly had its challenges, and if you have grown closer to that special person in your life, Element 79 has the perfect piece of fine jewelry to mark the occasion. Element79Jewelry.com

NOW MORE THAN EVER, PEOPLE EXPERIENCING FEAR AND ANXIETY DURING THESE CHALLENGING TIMES ARE INCREASINGLY TURNING TO THEIR RELIGIOUS LEADERS FOR INSPIRATION AND GUIDANCE. Pastors are being challenged on how to lead a congregation when they can’t assemble together, and how to keep the faith and inspire their members. We’ve asked our local faith leaders to share their thoughts and reflections on the challenges they face. And, more importantly, how they are adapting to the new reality.

SACRED HEART OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH This pandemic has deepened my understanding of the importance of the mission to which God has called me. I feel that He has prepared me to be at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at this particular time. By spending time in prayer and with the Word of God, I find that God inspires the words of hope and consolation that He desires His people to hear. The congregation needs to know that God loves them more than they realize and that He is closer to them than they are to themselves. We use all means possible including social media to share this Good News. In a world of anxiety and fear, the parish community brings God's presence to bring hope in the midst of the darkness. We have witnessed the action of God bringing some to pray more, others to reflect more on the meaning of their lives, and to appreciate more the spiritual need for communion with God and each other. — FATHER MARK KOVACIK, PASTOR
PARDES LEVAVOT JEWISH COMMUNITY We continue to pray God’s blessings on everyone. We have always been a small and welcoming congregation, meeting for worship every other week and holidays. We have created intimacy through open ended exploration of our shared values and textual tradition, and shared food. With the advent of the coronavirus, we immediately shifted to Zoom, and increased our frequency to weekly gatherings. We follow the unfolding of one another’s lives, encouraging weekly check-ins alongside our worship and study. We have discovered the gifts of this unusual and stressful time. Elders in our congregation who were not able to join us in our sanctuary in recent years, are now able to fully participate from the safety of their homes. We have made a commitment to “zoom them in” even after we are able to return to meeting in person. During our High Holy Days this year we were delighted to see that many friends and family, past congregants and students all over the world, literally, were able to share in the holiday services with us thanks to the Zoom platform. This was a great blessing for us, the rabbis, and for our local congregation. We are all exercising a new muscle—one that defines

our congregation connected during the current health crisis. We are making every effort to communicate through as many avenues as possible, including direct mail, cards, letters, phone calls, and house calls. As anyone can imagine, during this pandemic we have had to be creative in finding ways to connect with our precious members. It has been a challenge and a stretch of faith to keep everyone connected. So far, by our fervent prayers, we have been able to join each other on Zoom, Facebook Live, and conference calls weekly. Our members are always so blessed when we are in touch with them. We are following the mandated guidelines by the city, county and state departments of Health and Human Services. We remain hopeful that everyone is adapting and coping in the season. — MINISTER GLENDA STRONG ROBINSON
FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH During Advent we light candles. On Christmas Eve the sanctuary is full of a thousand points of light as we sing Silent Night. Not this year. In this pandemic light has appeared all around us. Throughout the congregation: Old and young, women and men are living with courage, and hope, and even joy in this moment. It is teaching me. It is reminding me that the stories of the Bible did not stop when the book went to press but are continuing to be written before us, by us. What does it look like to be the Church in the moment? Young people are reminded what gifts they have. Old folks share their dreams. And it soars. On mighty wings. First Church has stood at the intersection of public life and faith for 160 years (and we aren’t even tired!). Our light shines brightly even in this night. — REV. MICHAEL MATHER

focusing on what works. The Norwegian based brand consisting of 10 employees, 2 of which are the U.S. reps, have come to Boulder. Alex Beal, a Boulder native and recent CU graduate teamed up with JC, a Norwegian Native and also CU grad to make Boulder the base camp for Amundsen. Amundsen was established in 2011 with its roots dating back to 1911 when the Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen was the first to reach the South Pole. Using his knowledge and experience from living with the Inuits, who use natural materials and basic survival concepts that rely on working with nature, he is one of the most successful explorers of all time. The values that Amundsen used in his explorations are the very applications that the outdoor clothing brand uses today.

design and expert execution of standout details. The radiant yet budget-friendly cabinetry is complemented by pristine quartz countertops with a luxurious soapstone look. The geometric tile backsplash adds a major “wow” factor to the space, while switching out the doors and creating a two-toned coloring for the everyday dish cabinet was a purposeful choice that elevates the entire area. The renovation also embodies a number of diverse design styles that work together harmoniously to create a seamless, eclectically beautiful space. There is a touch of mid-century with the Anthropologie bent wood chairs with artistically colored seats. The sconces over the desk area and kitchen sink have a vintage vibe, yet the matte black finishes throughout the kitchen and dining area imbue a farmhouse feel. There’s a hint of the Scandinavian with the floating shelves in the powder and laundry room, yet the space’s cube-shaped mirror is more industrial. The end result is a cohesive look that is at once timeless and ideally suited to the homeowner’s style. Connected by new white oak wide plank flooring throughout, the spaces have been transformed to not only flow and function beautifully, but to be welcoming modern oases for cooking, dining, relaxation and effortless everyday living. “We have a dynamic team of masterminds here at Proud House Studio,” Daughtry says. “We have an efficiency for zeroing in on the best design possible for a space, and this project was no exception.”

A Destination Showroom DEFINING YOUR SPACE WITH ARTISAN RUG GALLERY

Boulder Lifestyle | December 2020
IT ALL BEGAN WITH A TRIP TO SOUTH AMERICA. With his mind set to be a ski instructor, Jeff Deutsch made quite the expedition to another continent only to discover his love for unique and exotic finds. Deutsch found himself in misfortune when snow didn’t come that year in South America; however, he did stumble upon a new fortune during his time there: the beginning of a 30-year-old family business. Upon his return, after discovering the art of buying textiles and accent items from around the world, Jeff decided to open his first store in Crested Butte. Fast forward years later, he now has the original store, a gallery in RiNO and new to the roster: a showroom in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both Jeff and his wife, Tiffany, have become subsistent in traveling the world and keeping an eye out for artistic, timeless, hand-woven rugs. At Artisan Rug Gallery, you are sure to find an array of styles that’ll turn any room into the essence of the home.
Constructed with wool and silk, this abstract piece of art turned rug is a stunning piece that tells a story of familiarity. With the Studio Collection, admirers can’t help but pay attention to the intricate detailing and dynamic elements that this rug has to offer. To the likes of many of the rugs that come from Artisan Rug Gallery, this rug truly “defines the space” as Jeff and Tiffany Deutsch often say. This piece adds a nice touch to modern homes. The more in depth you look at this rug, the more likely you will feel as if you were looking at an art piece in your local museum.
STUDIO COLLECTION #12632 ARTISAN RUG GALLERY
Reminiscent of nature, this particular rug reminded the couple of undulating rock formations. “The movement in the pattern creates a different view from every angle of the rug— which allows for maximum impact when placed in any space,” explain Jeff and Tiffany Deutsch. Plateau is a luxurious, comfortable underfoot made of 100 percent wool. Its high-low pile of ivory and charcoal is a pleasing aesthetic that will fit naturally in many homes. According to Jeff Deutsch, “a subtle rug can be the foundation to a room.” One thing the two entrepreneurs want their clients to expect when choosing Artisan Rug Gallery, is to expect

to be shocked. Regardless of what your space looks like

or what furniture fills it, rugs like the Plateau can tie your room completely together.

This construction of wool and bamboo silk contains many elements. The Emerald rug is comprised of several different patterns as the faded areas feather from blue to deep rust and bronze-like shades. The particular mix of tones allows for an approachable moment with clients and has the ability to thrive in a vast variety of design projects. “We are a destination showroom that is constantly growing,” Deutsch says. “We love to work with retail, businesses, and even designers.” Like many in their collection, this piece is fitting for any category of environment and offers a lot of

flexibility for clients to work with.
This piece is a modern-take on a traditional rug. Made of 100 percent wool, this rug is made up of an impressive color palette yet has a familiar approach with its pattern. New Tribal Soul No. 16 is perfect for anyone looking to mesh different styles together. This is a rug that becomes the focal point of the design. The way that this piece is weaved tells a story of a close acquaintance while proposing a new introduction. The colors, the patterns, and the overall style of this rug can leave room for your space to be aesthetically pliable.

Coming from India is the Bedaya Shale. This piece is made entirely of wool and creates a balanced, high-impact pattern with its black and steel blue color tones. The Bedaya Shale plays off of nature in the sense that it is reminiscent of rock fragments. The selling point for this rug is the attractive fact that it is a neutral piece for other pieces—whether they be furniture or works of art—to build off of. This rug is the epitome of what Jeff and Tiffany Deutsch believe to be the reason why their gallery is a strong contender in this industry. Like many of their other pieces, this rug is distinct in the sense that it offers a foundation. “The rug is the foundation of the room. It is the core,” Tiffany says. The Bedaya Shale is just that—the center of attention. It
