At the edge of the Sawtooth and Challis National Forest this land is surrounded by the wild beauty that defines Idaho. Two-time Olympic medalist Picaboo Street was born in this gorge, and learned to ski and race in nearby Sun Valley. Today it’s home to a handful of lucky residents, making it a recreational mountain paradise in the classic Sun Valley tradition. “Living here is the ultimate Idaho dream,” says Associate Broker, Reid Sanborn - trout fishing outside the backdoor in the morning, then skiing world-class slopes in the afternoon, followed by extraordinary dining, shopping, or any number of other outdoor activities. Very few places offer such privacy and tranquility while only 10 minutes from famed Sun Valley Ski Resort. It’s rare when a property blends the best of both worlds as it does here - in a home situated along the gentle creek and steep mountains. The 7832 square foot residence boasts a dramatic vaulted living room, large chef’s kitchen, home office, and bonus room with pool table and built-in bar. Ideal for both secluded family life and grand-scale entertaining near all the action, there’s room for everyone with 5 bedrooms and 6.5 baths on over 3 acres. For ultimate luxury, creating the perfect compound is possible by combining lots on either side of the property for over 11 acres of peace and solitude. Along with premier skiing, the magnificence of the natural surroundings are perfect for hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, dog walking, fly fishing, ice skating, and horseback riding. Where to C e l e b r at e Love & Romance IDEAS AND VENUES TO CONSIDER FOR ENGAGEMENTS, WEDDINGS AND HONEYMOONS THIS YEAR

WEDDINGS Koree Hawkes-McGrady and her husband Dane McGrady were engaged in January 2020. They began planning their fall wedding, and then…Covid-19. They still had a lovely ceremony outdoors at her aunt and uncle’s house just north of Ketchum. “Nearly everything about our wedding changed between January and September,” she said. “We had to shrink the guest list from 120 to 50, which was difficult, but it turned out just fine – it was beautiful.” Rich and Mandy were going to wait until later in 2021 so they could have a large gathering but opted instead to “share some joy at a time when many needed it,” Rich said. Hello, Zoom wedding! Twenty days later they held the ceremony inside their home with eight guests and a minister. They carefully selected the day and time (4:00 p.m. on a Friday) so friends and family around the world could “attend.” The following are ideas and venues to consider for engagements, weddings and honeymoons this year (keep in mind varying Covid-19 restrictions

They naturally took several “after-engagement” photos. The winery owners and staff joined in the celebration their first wedding proposal. Are there other benefits to working with her husband, other than the free labor? Ledo explains, “We’ve been working full-time for almost two years now. There was definitely a learning curve in the beginning. But because we are so different, we are able to pick up on each other’s strengths and weaknesses, we both know what we each of us has to do.” The result of this combined strength: A very smooth wedding day. Ledo adds, “Since I am the one that does all the planning, designing, coordinating, and my husband is more support on the back end or on the day of, so we’ve created a system that works well. We actually really enjoy it now.” Now as owner/planner of her own business, Ledo has had years of weddings under her belt. And despite each wedding being as unique as her clients and their needs, there is one common fear: something will go wrong.

THE WEDDING PLANNER (CONTINUED)

Yet in the age of Covid-19, when all things that could go wrong not only manifested, but became part of everyday conversation, how does a wedding planner mitigate an anxious couple’s real concerns? Not surprisingly, Ledo has a few tricks up her sleeve. “In May, we had a couple that decided to postpone because of Covid-19, as the bride was highrisk. What we ended up doing - a month before the initial wedding date - was to help them elope.” Ledo continues, “We ordered the photographer, the videographer, and we did a whole setup for them up near Bogus Basin, near the mountaintop – their pastor was there as their officiant, and their two best friends. And that was it!” The result? Says Ledo, “It was so personal. You could just feel the love even though it was so different than what they originally planned. And we

CAPTURING THE MAGIC

ARTISTRY, NOT TRICKS, IS THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER’S SECRET

WEDDINGS ARE PLANNED MONTHS AHEAD, SOMETIMES YEARS, AND WHEN THE SPECIAL DAY ARRIVES, THE PLANS HAVE EVOLVED INTO PICTURE PERFECTNESS. However, the best images convey effortlessness and shine with the spontaneity of emotions that match the unforgettable day of a wedding. When a couple profess undying love and commitment, that love is reflected in the pose that is taken. The folding back of the veil, a tender kiss, and the loving gaze into each other’s eyes are only some of the hallmark photos during a wedding.

It’s often the meaningful

moments in between that capture the magic between a couple. Here you’ll find six local artists/ photographers showcasing their most iconic images.

We love epic locations, beautiful golden light and something that just makes you stop and say, “Wow.” We recommend to all of our couples to take a few minutes away on their wedding day to get creative and adventurous and those images are alway the favorites! We want to create an image that you will want to blow up and put on the wall.

These images each represent an iconic wedding shot because they are ones that can be beautiful art pieces in the home to display your love story. The black and white image is the moment in time where you just became husband and wife. It’s one of my favorite parts of every single wedding; you cannot fake those smiles and that emotion!

As artists, we believe an iconic image is made up of the relationship between three things: lighting, location, and emotion. The composition should be intentional in regards to the subjects and their relationship to the location. For these images, the relationship between the subjects and location are accentuated by the use of interesting lighting.

spunk and I think this image captures that perfectly.

Bridal portraits are some of my favorite photos. It’s a

chance to capture the beauty of the bride, her dress, her flowers, that feeling she’s experiencing right

before she becomes a wife. I love this image for the

profile angle. I like to think she was looking over and thinking of all that was ahead of her, all that love she’s

in, all the day was bringing. The snow was a huge perk too--nothing says says romance like some snow!

Candid shots are the best! This photo was taken during a love battle of the cake. It brought me so much joy to snap this perfectly timed moment and my clients loved it as well! Photography is all about capturing those candid moments and letting the love unfold before your eyes and solidifying it forever in a creative way. Part of love is playfulness and I feel this photo gushes of it. There’s no better way to have some fun at your wedding than a smash of cake!

Weddings typically have a hectic schedule and there’s not much time to relax and take in the day. Right after this couple’s ceremony, they sat down for a few minutes to be alone. This image captures the intimacy between them.

These are my

favorite moments; it doesn’t have to be anything staged. Subtle, candid moments like this make a print-worthy, iconic image.

When I photograph couples, it’s not all about the best photoes; it’s about capturing how my couples feel and their overall experience. Number one key in creating memorable images is having a strong connection with the couple. From the initial meeting to delivering the final product, it’s all about building a strong relationship. In order to create an iconic image it all starts with a relationship and a few awkward jokes.

Not everyone wants to or is able to get married surrounded by hundreds of people. Many of our couples in 2020 resorted eloping somewhere remote. During this couple’s first kiss, I couldn’t help but notice how delicate and sweet their relationship was. At the end of the day, these iconic moments will not only capture my couple’s beauty but also their emotions and their love toward each other.

It truly captures the day for the couple and their family as it was very important to the couple to include their children in the wedding ceremony and celebration. It also showcases that wedding photography does not have to be stiff or boring! I [enjoy] capturing real joyful moments in a natural and timeless way.

I’ll choose a location that sings with beauty, pre-plan as much as I can in order to have one less thing to think about, and be fully present couple an ‘action,’ and observe how they tell it in their own unique way while also thinking, ‘How can I make this art?’ This series of images represent iconic wedding imagery because it has the foundation for a good shoot: amazing location, beautiful dress, gorgeous couple. The key is the magic in those photos: the mood it provokes and the creative element.

Weddings

To better assist you on your very important day, we ask you to list the name of the people in your wedding party, check the desired service and provide the name of the preferred service provider, if you have someone in mind.

Rehearsals

In addition to a complimentary bridal consultation with your stylist, you might choose to schedule a run-through for your hair and makeup appointments at the salon. Make the most of every moment by scheduling the run-through the same day of your dress rehearsal or pre-wedding parties. You will look fabulous for all of the upcoming festivities and photo opportunities.

Bridesmaids

Manicures and pedicures are a great bridesmaid’s gift and a wonderful way to relax before the wedding. Bridesmaids are encouraged to bring in a piece of fabric if they would like to match or complement their dresses. If there are too many colors for your party to choose from, remember that French manicures are a bridal classic.

Hair

So many wonderful hairstyles are possible for your special day. Whatever ideas you use, remember, a talented stylist might modify them for your face shape, neckline, style of veil, hair accessories, jewelry and dress. You can discuss these options during your bridal consultation with your stylist. Be sure to schedule your consultation at least one week before your wedding.

Spa Day

Many couples or wedding parties schedule a spa day the day before or even the week before the wedding for manicures, pedicures, facials, body wraps, eyebrow arching and full body massages.

INSPIRED BY

WHAT ARE THE MOST CRITICAL SKILLS YOU BRING TO YOUR WORK? Along with the team I work with, our best skills come from our knowledge, our experience, and our commonsense approach to helping clients achieve their desired results. The investment business has somewhat become a bit of a commodity, where everyone has access to many strategies whipped up by Wall Street, and salesmen can make anything sound attractive. Our value comes from the knowledge and experience that we bring in implementing investment strategies that work for our clients’ individual needs. With over 25 years of experience working with wealthy families, I’d like to say we’ve probably seen it all. We can point out the advantages and disadvantages of virtually everything that comes across our desk. On top of that, we “eat our own cooking,” meaning we won’t suggest or sign off on a strategy unless we have vetted it ourselves with our own resources. Having the knowledge and experience is critical in helping clients make the best choice. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS, BOTH PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY? Personally we have always defined success around the quality of the friendships we have with the many wonderful people that we spend time with. We are so fortunate, we interact with so many good

people of high integrity and strong values and of course, the most important, are the fun and lasting memories we share with them and their families. A great successful day for me personally is a day chasing chukars on a cold winter day, a summer day in the middle of a pristine fly fishing stream, a round of golf, or a winter day on the beach in Mexico. Those are great days for me! Professionally our success is defined by the value that we provide to our clients. We work diligently to make sure that our clients are empowered to make great decisions across every aspect of their financial lives. By sharing our knowledge and experience we find that our clients can find clarity and simplicity in making these important decisions. When their decisions or needs become crystal clear to them, and our clients have a full understanding of their success strategy, that’s when we consider our relationship to be a big win!

“ P r o fe s s i o n a l l y o u r success is def ined by t h e va l u e t h a t w e p r ov i d e t o o u r c l i e n t s . ”

OUTSIDE OF WORK, WHAT SKILLS AND TALENTS DO YOU HAVE THAT MIGHT SURPRISE PEOPLE? Well, this skill is slowing down a bit, but I still love to spend time with kids on the basketball court. I am a former college basketball player and for almost 30 years I have spent many hours in the gym, helping young children become successful shooters. It has been so much fun to stay engaged in the sport and to watch the success that these kids have had. Many have gone on to play at the college level. For me to watch the excitement of the players and their parents/families reach a higher level of success has been incredibly rewarding and certainly brings a smile to my face. WHAT ARE SOME CAUSES YOU CARE ABOUT? There are so many great causes in our area, so it is hard to choose just a few. I hope that the desire to help others continues to resonate in the Treasure Valley. It’s just another reason that Idaho is such an incredible place to live. I love the Idaho Food Bank. It should be on everyone’s list, and especially the school back-pack program they run. The Idaho Foodbank’s Backpack program ensures that students who are chronically hungry have access to adequate food over the weekend by providing them with a backpack full of nutritious, kid-friendly food every Friday during the school year. Every Friday, each child of need receives a backpack with enough food for two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two snacks. Meals consist of nutritious, child-friendly items that are easy to prepare and taste good! This makes a massive difference in some children eating or not eating over the weekend. Also, the School Pantries are an extension of the Backpack program. If children who receive weekend Backpacks are dealing with food insecurity, it makes sense that their siblings are, too. This program helps provide families with food through a pantry set up inside the school, where access is convenient for both students and family. My wife is a former kindergarten teacher and has seen first-hand the struggles that some families have with hunger. It’s not OK. We should all strive to support the many organizations that are working to put an end to hunger in these trying times. A lot of people are hungry right now, and I would challenge my friends and colleagues to pick one organization and help out our neighbors. WHO DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY? I admire people who have fought through adversity to find their level of success. I admire people who have started with nothing and have built something amazing from there. Maybe it’s a struggling business owner who has fought through tough times, or a single parent who has struggled to provide for their family, or a field goal kicker who makes the winning field goal after missing a couple. I admire people who rise above their personal level of adversity to succeed. People who are honest and ethical and have a high level of integrity. People who do the right thing, all the time. Specifically I admire my parents who somehow were able to get their children to the finish line. This is a tough job for all parents! CityLifestyle.com/Boise
