Upper airways become more restricted due to hard structures and soft tissue hypertrophy (Enlargement). The result is less airflow or volume. This resistance can be detrimental to sleep quality and athletic performance. NightLase ® utilizes a twin laser system patented by Fotona Lasers. This procedure is a nonablative(no surgical cutting) technique utilizing laser impulses to tighten connective tissue, muscles, and their attachments to hold open the soft palate area and the upper nasal passages. The net result is increased airflow and volume during normal function, sleeping, and athletic performance. This twin laser system is FDA approved for safety and effectiveness on the tissues treated. The standard procedure takes approximately 45 minutes and needs to be repeated 21 days apart for 3-4 sessions. No anesthetic is needed, and there is no downtime. Protocol maintenance is usually a one-session touch-up every 1-2 years or as needed.

We reconfigured the layout, introduced a 12-foot sliding glass door, and opened the kitchen and living areas so the home feels brighter, more connected, and naturally draws people together. Every design decision, from the custom island to the simplified material palette and organic modern finishes, was intentional. We wanted the home to feel calm, functional, and effortless, while creating spaces that support everything from everyday family life to entertaining friends.

How do tools like 3D rendering software help clients accurately visualize their space, and how adaptable is this process when a client realizes they want to pivot mid-design? LC: Design Development is one of my favorite parts of the process because it's where everything starts to feel real. Our team takes all of the ideas we've been discussing and translates them into detailed 3D renderings so clients can truly experience the space before construction ever begins. It's amazing to watch someone say, "Yes, that's exactly what I envisioned," or even realize they'd like to adjust something. Those conversations are incredibly valuable because making refinements during design is much easier than making changes once construction is underway. Our goal is for clients to feel completely confident before we ever pick up a hammer. In our area, we have a beautiful mix of historic architecture, character-rich older homes, and sleek modern spaces. When you take on a major remodel, how do you balance respecting a property’s architectural soul while introducing contemporary luxury and modern amenities? EA: One of the things I enjoy most is finding that balance. Older homes have details and character that you simply can't recreate, so we look for opportunities to celebrate those features rather than compete with them. At the same time, homeowners want spaces that function for today's lifestyle. The challenge—and the fun—is weaving modern conveniences, custom cabinetry, updated layouts, and luxury finishes into the home in a way that feels authentic. When it's done well, it doesn't feel like an old house with new finishes; it feels like the home has naturally evolved over time. Every project you hand back to a client is deeply personal. After over two decades of curating luxury spaces, what keeps your design and production teams inspired to push boundaries, and what does delivering the "CROSS Standard" mean to you at the end of a project? Jaclyn Marais (pronounced “Muh-Ray”) is well aware of that misconception. The Boerne native and founder of Class Act with Jaclyn hears it often, yet her personal philosophy takes an entirely different approach. "To me," she says, "etiquette is really just consideration put into action." This simple definition reframes the entire conversation. Rather than teaching people how to appear refined or impress others, Marais views etiquette as a tool for connection. The goal is never perfection; it is helping those around you feel comfortable, respected, and valued. That philosophy feels particularly at home in Boerne, a town that naturally prioritizes relationships and warm hospitality. In a close-knit community where neighbors frequently bump into one another on Main Plaza or at local shop storefronts, genuine consideration forms the fabric of everyday life. "I love Boerne," she says. "The sense of community—the people here value relationships. Etiquette complements that beautifully because it's really about connection." "But I also wanted to do something that I loved." Growing up, Marais did not always feel naturally confident, so she intentionally studied these skills, eventually completing formal etiquette training before turning her passion into a vocation. "The more I studied etiquette," she says, "the more I realized it wasn't about rules. It was about people and connection." Her family found the career path fitting. "My family says this is exactly who I was as a child," she laughs. "I always loved tea parties."

Marais recently hosted a children's workshop at a local library and plans to expand her offerings throughout the Boerne community. Beyond teaching basic manners, her primary reward is watching hesitant children transform over the course of a single hour. They leave standing taller, making direct eye contact, and carrying the belief that they can enter unfamiliar social settings with ease. It’s lessons like these that provide a foundation lasting far beyond childhood. Fostering a child is a profound calling, but the daily reality can quickly overwhelm a household. “Sometimes it looked like just sending an SOS to the pastor's wife of like, ‘Hey, we're falling apart,’” says foster parent Rachel. Between managing court-mandated visits, medical appointments, and specialized care, the emotional and logistical demands add up fast. All parenting requires a strong support system, yet foster parents frequently navigate these complex needs in isolation, especially when extended family lives far away. "There is a mental weight that comes with asking people to step into the hard things with you," Kayla, a fellow foster parent, says. Even asking for assistance creates another task on a long to-do list, driving exhaustion and burnout across the community. "Having help would help our entire family not feel so alone or overwhelmed," shares local foster parent Melissa. "We have older kids, so I think it is really good for them to see a community of people come alongside us and love us in the gap of having no family." Recognizing this challenge, 1HOPE for Kids saw an opportunity to transform how communities wrap around foster families. In the past, organizations often provided foster parents with long, master lists of general volunteers for transportation or childcare. However, this model forced exhausted parents to contact individuals one by one, often facing unavailable schedules and added frustration. "Foster parents often struggle knowing how

and exactly when they need help, so the lists of volunteers... ended up being a burden for the foster parents to have to contact volunteers themselves and wait for a response," explains Katy Wilhelm, 1HOPE’s Director of Family Enrichment. To close this gap, 1HOPE developed HOPE Communities, a dedicated team of volunteers paired with each foster family. This organized network steps into tangible roles tailored to the household's unique schedule, providing meals, transportation to court-mandated visits, certified babysitting, prayer support, and help with everyday chores. The engine behind this seamless coordination is the Team Lead. By acting as the sole liaison between the volunteers and the foster parents, the Team Lead removes the daily administrative burden from the family. "The Team Lead communicates with the foster parent(s) on a weekly basis to see what needs the families have," Wilhelm shares. "They will invest approximately two hours a week, and this in turn allows the foster family to spend time bonding as well as getting much-needed rest." Crystal Tonne, who serves as Rachel’s Team Lead, stresses that the role is simple to manage. "I was just being that coordinator to help other people take advantage of the opportunities to serve her," Tonne explains. "It's really not a time-consuming role." But for foster parents, this practical relief changes everything. "The HOPE community helped with preventing the fires," Rachel says, "because it was more like we have people in place to babysit. We have meals on days so that we don't have to pull out of every other area of our life just because we're fostering."

Beyond simplifying weekly schedules, HOPE Communities create profound stability for everyone involved. For children in foster care who face frequent transitions, seeing familiar faces consistently provides a powerful sense of security and belonging. "The kids love knowing people by name and having friends that keep showing up," Kayla shares. "It helps them feel like they belong and that they are worth knowing. It improves their confidence and shows them what healthy, supportive relationships can look like." Wilhelm sees this emotional grounding as the foundation for a thriving future, noting that consistent volunteers offer building blocks for emotional connection where deficits once existed. Ultimately, this sustainable support gives foster parents the capacity to continue saying “yes” to children in need without burning out. Rachel reflects on sitting in church and looking across the congregation at her transporter, respite providers, and weekly meal team. "I might be the only licensed foster parent here, but my church cares for foster families, and that just means the world to me. Every Saturday morning just before 8:00 a.m., a vibrant transformation takes place on Main Street. Dozens of local sellers arrive with armfuls of clothing, home décor, hand-painted garden rocks, and vintage treasures. For the next two hours, laughter and music fill the air as 70 distinct closets are styled, stocked, and readied for a line of eager shoppers waiting outside. By the time the doors open, Linen & Dove has become 70 mini-boutiques under one roof. The mastermind behind this weekly spectacle is Boerne native Kendall Mahler. Her shop introduces a fresh spin on resale: a short-term consignment closet model where community members rent a dedicated space for seven days. “This is your little shop; your brand for seven days,” Mahler says. “Have fun with it and take pride in it.” The approach gives locals a hassle-free way to clear out pre-loved items without the headache of taking photos, managing listings, or packing boxes for online buyers. Sellers rent a standard closet for $35 per week or a larger shelf display for $45. They set their own prices, tag their inventory, and curate their displays on Saturday morning. two-thirds of all sales directly to the seller. By Friday evening, sellers collect their remaining goods, leaving the closets clean and ready for a fresh set of community sellers the following day. “Every week,” emphasizes Mahler, “it’s somebody else’s little boutique.” The result is a revolving door of unexpected finds. One week’s inventory might feature designer Louis Vuitton accessories and St. John suits; the next might hold children’s toys, hand-painted garden rocks, vintage craft collections, or rare stamps. Most items are priced comfortably between $5 and $20. “You’ll see 70 different personalities and 70 different styles,” Mahler explains. “One of those closets might fit your size and personality to a T." Mahler’s passion for treasure hunting runs deep. Growing up in Boerne, she spent childhood Saturday mornings exploring garage sales and consignment shops alongside her mother. After graduating from Boerne-Champion High School in 2014, she earned a master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology and built a successful career in corporate consulting. Still, after a

decade of long days, business travel, and endless Zoom calls, she felt drawn back to her roots. She wanted work that felt closer to people and offered a genuine sense of purpose. Returning home to the Hill Country, Mahler designed a business rooted in local pride. The name itself holds personal meaning: “linen” touches on her Christian faith as she often envisions it as the “fabric of Jesus,” while the dove in the logo is Texasized with a bluebonnet in its beak. The word "dove" also pays homage to the street where she grew up. That hometown spirit extends throughout the shop. Inside the Bluebonnet Room, a flexible community space, Mahler showcases local collaborations, ranging from her mother’s potted succulents to custom arrangements grown by a local Boerne florist. In the future, she plans to launch a series of recorded interviews with sellers so shoppers can learn the history of the items they buy. “I think there is this fun, underlying magic with resale,” she says, “because of the personal connection that comes with every item and the story behind it.” CONTINUED >

For Mahler, resale is ultimately about the delight of discovery. She calls her favorite finds “soul pieces”—those rare vintage jackets, perfect dresses, or unexpected keepsakes that seem destined for a specific owner. Her own cherished soul piece is a hand-sewn, vintage patchwork leather jacket she bought for a fraction of its true value years ago. It fit perfectly, and she plans to keep it for life. “I’ve seen shoppers try something on and say, ‘I’ve been looking for this for years, and it has finally come to me,’” Mahler says with a smile. During Saturday setup, music plays as sellers organize their displays and chat with one another. Sellers even fall in love with items in neighboring closets during setup, waiting patiently for the doors to open so they can make their own purchases. There is a distinct, rhythmic beauty to the way things shift along the banks of the Cibolo. For years, the historic property at 119 Staffel Street existed as a sanctuary of quiet comfort, where the gentle murmur of the water outside matched the steady cadence of dining tables at The Creek Restaurant.

“I love to have perfect dishes, and I’m surrounded by a beautiful, hardworking team that transmits my passion into every dish.” When the doors closed this past March, a stillness settled over the familiar space, marking the quiet conclusion of a beloved local chapter. But the finest kitchens understand that heat transforms, and for Chef Jean Tardif, the lingering embers of the past offered the perfect foundation to build something entirely new. The masterful Frenchtrained mind behind Tardif’s American Brasserie is breathing new life into this creekside landmark, preparing to introduce Le Steak, a high-end steakhouse anchored in radical simplicity, absolute precision, and premium cuts. “I think it was the right opportunity,” Tardif says. “Instead of being The Creek, we decided to evolve like a phoenix and be reborn from the ashes. It’s the end of an era, but the start of another one.”

The planning for Le Steak began roughly six months ago. After The Creek closed its doors, Tardif maintained a strong, collaborative relationship with the landlord. As he stood in the empty dining room looking out at the water, he began to consider the Hill Country culinary ecosystem. He discovered that while Boerne’s food scene was rapidly expanding, it lacked a dedicated, ultra-premium steakhouse anchored in the rigorous French techniques he loves. The vision crystallized rapidly, down to the minimalist name. “I started thinking about what Boerne needed,” Tardif says. “I’ve been a chef for 15 years, and this is a new concept we’re trying to install here. Everything came together; I saw a window open, and I took the opportunity to go in this direction.” CONTINUED >

Tardif’s culinary DNA uniquely positions him for this venture. His father is French, and his mother is of Cuban and Mexican descent, introducing him to a wide variety of bold flavors and cuisines at an early age. His profound love for cooking began when he was just seven years old, leading him eventually to Le Cordon Bleu, one of the top culinary institutes in the world. After graduation, Tardif honed his skills by opening his first restaurant in the highly competitive culinary arena of Mexico City before moving north to open Tardif’s American Brasserie near The Dominion in 2021. “People know Tardif’s already. I mean, we’ve been here for five years,” Tardif says. “But what they should know is that we’re going to put the same effort and techniques into every single dish we serve here. I love to have perfect dishes, and I’m surrounded by a beautiful, hardworking team that transmits my passion into every dish.” While the brasserie boasts an expansive, multipage menu, Le Steak represents a complete aboutface toward minimalism, channeling the spirit of the iconic, single-focus steakhouses of Paris. Tardif's mission for the new venture remains the same at its core: to meld Texas flair with his love for French cuisine in a more distilled way. The menu for Le Steak will consist of only three salads with three different sauces, three cuts of steak with sauces and substitutes for lamb, pork, or salmon, starches as sides—such as French fries, mashed potatoes, loaded potatoes, or roasted potatoes—and one dessert: beignets with ice cream and chocolate drizzle. This offering is not about branching out, but homing in on cooking the perfect steak for the people of Boerne. To achieve this, the restaurant will operate on a fixed-price model with no reservations required. This eliminates the excess noise of a traditional dining experience. By narrowing the focus so intensely, Tardif forces the guest to appreciate the raw execution of the craft. “I'm calling this a steak ritual because we're only seasoning our steaks with salt, and we're not hiding any single flavor of the steaks,” Tardif says. “It’s pretty simple with real flavors with tasteful steaks.”

The transformation of the physical space matches the focused ethos of the menu. Over the last six months, Tardif and his team have been working tirelessly to prepare the restaurant to open for the Boerne community. Instead of hiring an outside commercial contractor, Tardif and his team renovated the space themselves to create a brand-new atmosphere for Le Steak. Moody lighting, new flooring, and updated fixtures led to a focused ambiance for the restaurant’s opening. For the chef, the physical labor was a deeply personal necessity. “I did these floors and

painted the building with my bare hands,” Tardif says. “Everything is put together by three other people and me. It’s like a baby for me, so I hope when people come, they say, ‘Wow, it’s a beautiful location.’” For Tardif, Le Steak represents a fresh start, and one he hopes will give the Boerne community a steakhouse dining experience built on simplicity, perfection, craftsmanship, and hospitality. “Boerne has been amazing for me and very welcoming,” Tardif says. “People are going to have the flavors I love with beautiful views by the creek.” 830-816-2005 | 119 Staffel St.
