REAMING OF BREAKING OUT OF QUARANTINE TO EXPLORE NEW REGIONS AND CULTURES OVER THE WINTER SEASON? Traveling
to a new region to experience one of their most special holidays the way they experience it can be a great way to not only visit but immerse yourself into a new and different culture. Pack your jingle bells and enjoy these three countries as they come together to celebrate their winter holidays with food, festivities, and traditions. We’ll share everything you need to pack the perfect suitcase, arrive ready, and make the most of your time in each diverse destination.
Finland’s Christmas celebration is rooted in deep, history-rich tradition and long-lasting, with traditions starting at the beginning of December and concluding the day after Christmas. Plan your flight to bring you to Finland the first weekend of Advent so you can witness the ceremonial unveiling of Christmas décor across the countryside. It is during this magical, anticipatory time that pre-celebrations begin, marked by the gathering of family and friends. Next, celebrate St.

Lucia Day on December 13th by participating in the Finnish observation of this religious day. Witness a girl adorned in white from head to toe and wearing a crown of candles, lead a procession of singers. Finally, enjoy the main event on Christmas Eve, December 24th. This is the day little boys and girls look forward to – first the Christmas sauna, followed by a Christmas feast and then visits from Santa Claus, who knocks on each door to ask if any well-behaved children are home. Christmas day and beyond are all about rest and recovery from the festivities.

Diya Diwali Festival in india
celebrate diwali in india Diwali – also known as the Festival of Lights - is celebrated in India in October and November. The meaning behind the holiday is a celebration of victory of good over evil (and other comparisons like light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance). Diwali is observed by Jains, Sikhs, Hindus, and sometimes Buddhists, and celebration includes gifts, religious rituals, lighting, shopping, fireworks, and feasts. Like many holidays, travelers can expect to taste unique and flavorful cuisine during Diwali. Prior to the commencement of the five-day Festival of Lights, those who celebrate beginning cleaning and preparing their homes for celebration. They declutter, cleaning, renovate, and decorate with oil lamps and candles and other holiday-specific décor to set the tone for one of their most important holidays of the year. When Diwali starts, your senses will be overwhelmed as the people dress in their finest clothes, light fireworks, share gifts with one another, and partake in festive feasts. Each day of the Festival of Lights is accompanied by it’s own meaning and celebration, although each of the cultural groups that participates celebrates differently. A day is dedicated to the relationship between brother and sister, for example, and another day dedicated to home maintenance. Because each culture celebrates Diwali differently, traveling to India can expand your horizons and stretch your breadth of experience further than the other destinations and celebrations we described. Taking time to partake in a Sikh tradition and then a Buddhist celebration and a Hindu feast while you’re in India will give you the most well-rounded taste of Indian culture and winter celebration. While COVID-19 has changed the way we travel, it has also provided some benefits to travelers who are brave enough to don their protective equipment and venture out, like more affordable flights and smaller crowds, which can make cultural trips like these even more rewarding and meaningful for the traveler. Now is still a great time to move forward with your winter travel plans, taking extra caution to stay safe. We’re wishing you joyful winter travels!

TWENT Y -ONE
AS I’VE SAT IN THE DARKNESS AND LONELINESS OF QUARANTINE, I’VE WORKED HARD TO STAY HOPEFUL. I’ve dreamed, prayed, and planned. I’ve imagined how good it will feel to remove the heavy shackles of 2020. I’ve visualized how freeing it will feel running toward the beautiful light of 2021. Does this sound familiar? Ok, I may have overdramatized it for your reading pleasure and to set the proper tone. However, I know we’re all in agreement: 2020 was a crap year and we’re all ready to move on! My optimism wants me to remind both of us that we are resilient souls. Of course, we believe in better days for 2021. I’m proud of us. We’ve managed to keep our sanity and sense of humor. We’ve probably even managed to keep a decent stash of toilet paper, just as a sense of control, for any more crap 2020 tries to throw forward. We’re stronger. The stroke of midnight will feel like a trophy for all that we’ve endured. Keeping it real, of course the pop of the champagne cork will not magically bring us back to normal life. But it’s safe to say we can see the light. Scientists tell us we should have a vaccine for coronavirus in the new year. There’s that light! It won’t be waiting for us at the door of 2021, but we’ll be greeted with its likelihood. So, what do we do until we get there? We keep building ourselves strong. Our new year resolutions need to reflect this time we’re in. It’s important we make them simple, meaningful, realistic, and easily attainable. Our list needs to build our health, well being, and dreams. Our resolutions should feel like joyful, confident snacks to fuel us for our journey. A few years back, I decided I wanted to run a half marathon. I wasn’t a runner, but it felt like a good dare to challenge myself both mentally and physically. So, I put my mind to it. I put my body through it. I did it. At times, it didn’t feel fun at all. I wondered why I decided to torture myself. However, that one terrible/wonderful 14

THE POINT OF IT ALL JUST AS THE BATH WATER IN MY SOAKING TUB WAS LOSING ITS STEAM, THE FIRE WAS CALLING FOR ANOTHER LOG. Climbing out of the deep tub and into a thirsty robe, I threw a few more logs into the big stone fireplaces in the bathroom and sitting room. Every window in the Lookout Suite offered an expansive view over moody Upper Saranac Lake where a thick fog was hanging over the still water and green peaks of the Adirondacks beyond. It was the perfect afternoon for a fire. And a long hot bath with a book. An ideal day at The Point, a charming 11-room Relais & Chateaux property and former Great Camp of William Avery Rockefeller II located in the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Thoughtful and elevated touches welcome even the most discerning guests at every turn. The game room bar is stocked with homemade chips and cookies as well as gin and whisky from Lake Placid and beyond. The library offers old friends like Franny and Zooey and Anne Boleyn. Handmade wooden jigsaw puzzles from Stave taunt from a neat cabinet and a grand old billiard table stands sentinel, adorned with birch bark, antlers and a hand-painted landscape of some dreamy Adirondack lake (nearby, likely). If you must, you can watch television here (your room won’t have one) while you pretend the news or football score is more interesting than the view or the company. The Point attracts travelers who have honed the art of vacationing, taking pride in turning off phones and turning to the person next to them to carry on a conversation. Dinners are an affair, with black tie dress suggested two nights a week in keeping with the historic perspective of the Gilded Age as no fewer than seven courses are served across tables set for a large party of your newest “Friends in Residence” (their names will be printed on the nightly menu laid at your place). One evening, Versace china and crushed velvet navy tablecloths paired seamlessly, framing a meal created by Chef Loïc Leperlier and his team. Among the more memorable dishes (though each and every one left an impression) were a delicate yellowtail snapper served with fava beans, avocados, wild rice, sea beans and preserved lemon and nilgai (antelope) with ramps foraged the day before during a woods walk, Swiss chard from the kitchen garden, morels and rhubarb. Change after dinner, bundle up and take a walk down to the lake, look up at the stars and listen. You may hear the crackle of a nearby bonfire, a champagne cork popping or nothing at all. That’s the point of it all.

eMy work is intended to inantaneously immerse the viewer into the visual and emotional energies that I have devoted to each piece. Depending on onees ability and willingness to be guided by the senses, these paintings can lead one away from the mind and into an alternate and self-made reality filled with cor and feeling. My new series features original and different mixed media such as BB Gun Pellets.
