Many people rely on their voices every day—whether it’s to sing, speak publicly, teach, or simply communicate with loved ones. When vocal issues arise, even casual conversations can become frustrating or painful. At the Center for Vocal Excellence at ENT Specialists, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments and procedures designed to both restore and enhance vocal performance.
With specialized expertise and a compassionate approach, we work with you to identify the root of the problem and develop a customized plan to restore vocal strength and function. From advanced diagnostic tools to tailored therapeutic techniques, we offer a variety of proven strategies to help you achieve the best possible outcomes for your voice.
Laryngeal Videostroboscopy is a specialized diagnostic tool used to assess the health and function of the larynx, also known as the voice box. This innovative technology uses a combination of video and stroboscopic light to capture detailed, slow-motion images of the vocal cords in action. Known as a laryngeal strobe, this method is primarily used to diagnose and address voice disorders and can help to identify conditions such as vocal cord nodules, polyps, cysts, and other conditions affecting vocal cord function.
Our Speech Pathologist and Laryngologist work closely, combining advanced technology with proven therapeutic techniques to treat a wide range of voice disorders. Using specialized voice analysis software to evaluate pitch, volume, and vocal quality, they create personalized treatment plans. These plans include targeted vocal exercises to strengthen the vocal cords, enhance breath control, and improve overall voice function.

The holiday season is here, bringing with it the sights, sounds and traditions that make this time of year so magical. For many of us, the holidays are a chance to recreate the joy we felt as children, whether it’s through the twinkle of festive lights, the aroma of holiday baking or cherished family traditions.

This month, we’ve again collaborated with the Birmingham Shopping District to curate a holiday gift guide to help make your holiday shopping easier — while supporting local businesses. We’ve also highlighted the best of what our community has to offer during the holidays, from events and entertainment to opportunities for giving back.
While this season is joyful for many, it can also be a difficult time for those who are grieving, lonely or in need. In the spirit of the season, let’s come together as a community to extend kindness and compassion to those who may be struggling. Whether it’s donating to a local charity, volunteering your time or simply checking in on a neighbor, every act of generosity makes a difference.
May your holidays be filled with love, peace and the joy of giving.
Happy Holidays,

Erseila Gorani

As a child growing up in Albania, Erseila Gorani loved to watch her father, an artist, at work — inspiring her to try her own hand.
“When I was very young, my passion was drawing,” Gorani says. “I especially loved to draw lips and eyes — I was always attracted to the details, and perfecting them. I wanted to make them look realistic.”
That focus naturally transitioned into an interest in makeup, so upon arriving in Michigan, she attended cosmetology school. But doing hair and makeup still was not scratching her itch. She craved the element of detail.
The next step was focusing on permanent makeup — and her skills took off. “Permanent makeup is a form of drawing,” Gorani says. “I can visualize how to contour the eyebrows, create natural-looking lashes, shape the border of the lips. It requires precision and expertise, so it’s great to be able to create it permanently.”
Armed with her cosmetology license, close to 15 years working in a salon and continuing education, Gorani opened EG Lash & Brow just over a year ago in Birmingham.

“Everything I do is permanent makeup,” she says, including eyelash extensions, eyebrow microblading and lip blush application. With a meticulous attention to detail, her goal is always to enhance natural features, whether restoring lost lip borders or crafting flawless permanent eyeliner.
Gift a session of treatments, or schedule some pampering for yourself before a holiday soiree or office gathering. Offerings include: makeup application, eyelash extension sets or fills, brow lamination, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, Yumi Lashes lift and tint, microblading, powder/ombre brow tattoo, lip blush tattoo, brow pigment removal, waxing and threading and more.

Nestled in Downtown Birmingham’s historic 1916 Shain Townhouse, Skin House is a medical and wellness spa founded by Dr. Christina Barbat. The ivy-covered Arts & Crafts landmark, with its copper details and stained glass, houses an intimate space reminiscent of boutique hotels in New York or Milan.
Dr. Barbat, a family medicine physician, opened Skin House in 2020, before expanding into an adjoining townhouse. The spa offers cutting-edge treatments including Morpheus8, PRP therapy, cosmetic injections and holistic wellness services like lymphatic drainage and medical weight loss — knowledgeable technicians work with clients to curate bespoke treatments to cater to their needs.
“I treat every patient as family,” Dr. Barbat says. “Our goal is facial harmony — helping clients achieve the best, most natural version of themselves from the inside out.”

Biologique Recherche Custom Skin Treatment, customized to clients’ skin type and condition; Skin House Diamond Glow Facial, a dermabrasion device followed by cosmetic serums massaged into the skin; dermaplaning; microneedling; Morpheus8, using radio frequency to stimulate collagen; dermal fillers and neuromodulators; Platelet Rich Plasma hair restoration; lymphatic, Swedish and prenatal massages; IV therapy and more. Also available: a host of luxe products curated to enhance treatments and wellness.

Andrea Weatherly and Minna Sharrak started Banya as a place where friends could gather together and focus on well-being. Birmingham’s first contrast therapy studio, Banya is a sanctuary where tradition meets modern wellness, dedicated to holistic wellness and longevity through infrared saunas, cold plunges and lymphatic body rollers.
“Every element is curated to promote relaxation, recovery and vitality,” Sharrak says. Banya (a Russian word referring to a traditional steambath) aims to heat the body from within, promoting relaxation, enhancing blood flow, boosting collagen production, accelerating muscle recovery and more.

GIVE & GET
• Lymphatic Drainage Body Roll Session stimulates the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and reduce inflammation, encouraging a deep cellular detox.

Monica Rich Kosann has always been a storyteller.
Growing up in New York City and attending the legendary High School of Music & Art (the “Fame” school), before college and studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, she discovered her passion when her father handed her his old camera to “play” with as a teenager. She was “immediately smitten,” she says, and soon launched a successful career as a portrait photographer. But it was her habit of gifting vintage powder compacts and antique cigarette cases to photography clients that sparked something deeper — a realization that sentimental, emotional pieces struck a profound chord with women.
In 2004, Kosann transformed that insight into her eponymous internationally recognized fine-jewelry brand in her hometown of New York City (monicarichkosann.com). What began with reimagining the traditional locket, which is still what she’s best known for, has evolved into a collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
CONTINUED >

After building a devoted following in Michigan, Kosann opened her newest boutique at the Somerset Collection in Troy in October 2024 — her first freestanding store outside of the New York area, joining two Manhattan locations and a shop at Bergdorf Goodman.
The Somerset Collection boutique showcases the brand’s commitment to sustainable, ethical luxury. As a Certified B Corporation (designating that a business meets high standards of verified performance, accountability and transparency), Kosann crafts heritage pieces using 18K yellow gold, sterling silver,
precious gemstones and diamonds — quality meant to last from generation to generation.
“Our jewelry allows the wearer to express herself,” she says. “It becomes her daily armor and fosters a connection — it has a function and a purpose, and that really moves me.”
A member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, she’s built her reputation on a simple but powerful philosophy: “Your Story, Not Ours.”
“I found that there was something emotional to be explored on a deeper level,” says Kosann, who runs her business with her husband.

“I began with lockets and then got into charms — but everything I design is about empowering a woman for her daily life and marking her milestones. We appreciate when others tell us that we created a fine jewelry category around personal storytelling. It’s something I’m very proud of.”
Kosann’s designs are rooted in an appreciation of vintage and antique pieces, as “they are unique and evoke the time, the craftsmanship and care each one holds,” she says. With a nod to history and sentiment, she breathes new life into antique designs with a modern freshness — creating spaces for mantras, inspirations and cherished photographs. Her pieces have adorned everyone from Gisele Bundchen and Sarah Jessica Parker to Kelly Clarkson, and featured in the pages of Vogue, The New York Times and Harper’s Bazaar
“Lockets are the sexiest piece of jewelry a woman can wear,” says Kosann. “They hold her secrets.”

From intimate gatherings to show-stopping tables, discover why charcuterie is the ultimate party move.
Years ago, when Ivana Stojkovic-Ristovski was hosting friends in her tiny New York City apartment, she discovered something magical: the way people gravitate toward a beautifully arranged spread of cheese, charcuterie and a bottle of good wine. Those intimate evenings weren’t just about eating — they were about connection, conversation and the simple joy of grazing together.

Fast forward to 2025, and that passion has blossomed into Grazed by Ivana ( grazedbyivana.com), her catering business of luxury grazing boards and tables that’s redefining party food across Metro Detroit. With a nutrition degree, nearly a decade managing New York City restaurants and Serbian roots that celebrate food as love, Stojkovic-Ristovski brings serious credentials to every board she creates. But it’s her self-taught artistry that really sets her apart. “People eat with their eyes first,” she says of her sumptuous seasonal compositions. So what exactly can Grazed do for your holiday soirees? Think beyond the basic cheese plate. Stojkovic-Ristovski offers fully customized charcuterie boards with premium ingredients that change seasonally — from rich winter cheeses to vibrant summer produce. This holiday season, her Seasonal Winter Board featuring Cranberry Wensleydale, 24-month
Prosciutto di Parma, truffle Marcona almonds and vanilla-sugared cranberries might just steal the spotlight from your centerpiece. Need vegan or gluten-free options? Done. Planning a themed celebration? She’ll create a bespoke board that matches your vision. Her elegant crudité platters and premium fruit boards have become client favorites, perfect for gifts or lighter fare.
For larger events, Stojkovic-Ristovski designs elevated grazing tables that transform gatherings into immersive experiences. No clumsy place settings, no disposable utensils — just an abundance of refined spreads that let guests mingle freely while surrounded by food that’s as gorgeous as it is mouthwatering.

The holidays are a season of warmth, gratitude and giving — but also a reminder that many neighbors need a helping hand. Across Oakland County and surrounding communities, nonprofits are working year-round to provide food, housing, care and compassion. Whether you give your time, donate funds or contribute much-needed supplies, these organizations make it easy to share the true spirit of the season.
A few years ago, Suzi Terebelo met Dana Marlowe, founder of I Support the Girls (ISTG) — a global non-profit that provides dignity to marginalized women through bras and menstrual-hygiene products. To date, ISTG has distributed over 41 million products through 60 affiliates in six countries.
“Dana spoke of how displaced women would use cardboard and duct tape in lieu of bras, and socks as menstrual products,” says Terebelo, co-chair of the social action committee at Congregation Shaarey Zedek’s Sisterhood in Southfield. She launched the CSZ Sisterhood ISTG project, working through ISTG’s Detroit chapter to benefit area women and girls through

Your gift to Grace Centers of Hope offers more than just a warm meal — it brings hope, healing and safety to men, women and children across Metro Detroit, rebuilding their lives from addiction and homelessness. Each plate served represents a step toward transformation and renewal. $2.17 provides one hot meal; $21.70 feeds 10 people; $65.10 provides 30 meals; $217 feeds 100 people.
Each December, the West Bloomfield Optimist Club partners with the West Bloomfield Fire Department and local school social workers to bring “Holiday Happiness” to families in need. Through donations and volunteers, children receive new toys and winter coats, while families receive food baskets. You can support this heartwarming community effort by donating, wrapping gifts or delivering baskets. EMBRACE THE SEASON WITH THESE HOLIDAY PARTY TIPS AND TRICKS.

ARTICLE BY SYDNEY KATE LEWIS
Just like that, it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. And while you may still be stuffed from all the turkey, it’s time to start planning the ultimate holiday party. I’ve included some tips and tricks to make sure it is the absolute best time for your guests.

SETTING THE ATMOSPHERE IS CRUCIAL.
The mood is subjective to the type of party you’re having, though. This could include a tree in the corner, an advent wreath on the table, a menorah on the counter, or other decor aligning with your celebration. Either way, I personally recommend lighting a fire in the fireplace or playing a looping video of one on your television to create a festive and cozy ambiance.
HOLIDAY GAMES ACT AS ENGAGING
I once played a game where little trinkets from the Dollar Tree were wrapped in a massive ball of plastic wrap, and guests had 30 seconds to unwrap as much as possible before passing it to the next guest, claiming the unwrapped trinkets as their prize. It definitely gets the adrenaline up and provokes quite a few laughs at the random items wrapped inside.

THE PLAYLIST IS, IN MY OPINION, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANY HOLIDAY PARTY.
While everyone is mingling, it is crucial to have some festive background noise. And, while the classics are well, classic, here are my go-to, more modern song choices for some great holiday fun!
• “Christmas Isn’t Cancelled (Just You)” - by Kelly Clarkson
• “Drummer Boy” - by Justin Bieber
• “Fancy Like Christmas” - by Walker Hayes
• “Hot Chocolate” - by Tom Hanks (From the Polar Express soundtrack)
• “It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries” - by Carly Rae Jepsen
• “Naughty List” - Liam Payne featuring Dixie
• “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” - by Jeff Foxworthy
• “Stretchy Pants” - by Carrie Underwood
• “Text Me Merry Christmas” - by Straight No Chaser featuring Kristen Bell
• “The Chanukah Song” - by Adam Sandler
Now go create your own, special playlist, pour yourself a mug of eggnog, and dance the night away!
FOOD AND DRINKS PLAY A MASSIVE ROLE IN THE HOLIDAY PARTY SCENE.
Whether a simple apple dip (8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup toffee bits served with apple slices) or a festive drink, such as a cranberry Moscow Mule (2 oz vodka, 1 oz cranberry juice, 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, ginger beer, and fresh cranberries with a sprig of rosemary for garnish), serving holiday-themed food and drinks amplifies the atmosphere.
