Valerie met Gregory, one of Ernest’s sons, at Ernest’s funeral, and they married in 1966. In 1980, Gregory and Valerie moved to Montana. Interest in Ernest as an author led to many biographies, books and articles. Valerie went on to write a memoir, published in 2004. The book, Running with the Bulls - My Years with the Hemingways centers around her time with the author. Valerie is currently serving as a consulting editor on a 17-volume, Complete Letters of Ernest Hemingway, which will be published by Cambridge University Press. Volume four of the series was published in October 2017. “This is a rare opportunity to get to study with someone who knew Ernest Hemingway’s life and literature personally, edited his papers, had access to him and understands how it applies today,” Director of University Honors Program David Craig said.

SUNDAY ROAST THE DAY BEFORE INGREDIENTS + 3 pounds chuck roast + 1 bottle dry red wine, such as cabernet or sangiovese + ¼ cup soy sauce + 1 head garlic, halved + 1 small white onion, quartered + 2 carrots, peeled and roughly chopped + 5 bay leaves + 5 sprigs fresh whole thyme + 2 sprigs fresh rosemary + 15 peppercorns + 2 tablespoons canola oil DIRECTIONS 1. Coat garlic, onion and carrots in canola oil in a medium saucepan. Cook, stirring often, over medium heat until onions are translucent and carrots are starting to soften. 2. Add remaining ingredients sans beef; bring to a simmer for 15 minutes. Cool completely before putting roast in a zip-close bag, topping with marinade. Refrigerate overnight.

Anna Paige is a poet, teacher, photographer and passionate Yellowstone Public Radio host who recently moved her downtown office space into her light and airy loft. “It’s small, and in small spaces, you have to get creative,” Anna says. “But the creativity has also been so freeing.” That creativity is evident throughout the space.
