BRAVING THE STORM TOGETHER: CITY AND BUSINESSES PARTNER DURING COVID-19 Throughout the pandemic, the City of Bellevue strategized with local businesses to adapt. In Old Bellevue along Main St., several restaurants used city programs to add dedicated take-out parking spaces or expand outdoor dining areas, including 520 Bar & Grill, Bis on Main, Cantinetta, Fern Thai and Monsoon. Monsoon owner Gina Lee said, “It was such a good experience and a tremendous help.” Joe Valardi of Bis on Main agreed, “A sense of community was achieved during an uncertain time.” Find business resources and ways to support local at bellevuewa.gov.

We experienced a wave of remote work, school, and workouts, which has led many buyers to desiring more space with low supply to choose from. The message is clear, be prepared to navigate a seller’s market. Here’s a look at 2021 real estate expectations and advice from local experts:

BETH BILLINGTON , THE BILLINGTON TE AM BIO:

Beth has been providing expert real estate services on the Eastside for 29 years with over $1.4 Billion in sales. She is extremely loyal, and her history of repeat clients and referrals is a true testament to her commitment to honest and ethical practices. Beth is attentive, detail oriented and provides personalized, hands-on support with constant communication. Her full-service approach to real estate includes a concierge service to help prepare clients’ homes for the market to ensure maximum results.

We are so blessed to have this escape, where the kids can go exploring and develop a deep appreciation for our Pacific Northwest wonderland. Together time is much easier when you can “Go outside!”

LU X U RY T R E N D FOR 2020:

Bellevue Lifestyle | March 2021

TIP FOR BUYERS:

If you’re a buyer, please know this market is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of preparation to be competitive and having a broker on your side who knows the market and has established relationships with listing agents in the area will help you be successful.

SURVIVING 2020:

After losing our puppy, Blu, when she was barely a year old my family and I thought we’d never get another dog. The heartbreak was too much. But then Hunter, a 2.5-month-old Labradoodle came into our lives unexpectedly and he was the best part of 2020 by far!

T O P R E A L E S TAT E TREND FOR 2021: The pandemic has caused an increased demand for luxury and seconds homes. Homeowners are finding the need for more space, two offices, more recreation space and properties further away from the busy cities. We have noticed many of our clients purchasing and spending extended time at their 2nd homes. I believe this trend will continue as we head into 2021 and with interest rates and supply of inventory remaining low.

The centrally located great room space creates an indoor-outdoor relationship with access to both the covered west terrace and the east “hidden” Zen garden and is the hub for family interactions and vibrant energy.

A large, covered patio provides outside dining, koi pond, fire pit and sitting area with views to Lake Washington, Seattle and the Olympics beyond.

A large kitchen open to the great room is the family central gathering area.

Value of a personal agent: As a first time home buyer, there is a lot to learn about home insurance to make

sure you are protected right. Having someone you trust to advise you is key and will

2 3 4

make sure nothing is missed and that you have a personal contact to help you any time. Home insurance is not one size fits all.

Flood and Earthquake Insurance. These are two disasters in our area that are a concern and are not covered on your

home insurance policy. A flood can happen even if you don’t live by a water source. These options are much more reasonable that most expect so it’s worth looking at your options for your peace of mind!

Roofing.

Roof damage or damage from leaks in roofs is one of the more common claims.

I would recommend requesting any roofing documentation from the seller prior to close so that you have on hand in case you ever have a problem. It also may add a discount to your policy, so it’s great information for you to have!

Life Insurance. Now that you have a significant new asset, it is time to revisit your life insurance needs. Heaven

forbid something happens to you and your income is depended on, that can put a significant strain on your family. People tend to put life insurance to the back burner, but remember that this protection is for your family and can have a huge impact if the worst happens. MOVE OVER CHIP AND JOANNA, BELLEVUE HAS ITS OWN ULTIMATE HOME RENOVATION DUO, ZACH AND EMILY ROBERTS. With years of home building experience, Zach plays an integral part in refining remodeling details and staying within budget, and as realtor, Emily has a love for home design and eye for trends. Together, they have the skills to make their design dreams a reality. “At this point, we are very seasoned when it comes to home renovations - for better or for worse - as this is the third home we have taken on together” says Emily. Currently, the couple and their family live in a 1952 rambler that feels right out of California. Emily believes it is essential to keep the design of a home in line with the architecture. “I try to keep the design simple but layer in the personality with vintage lighting, decor, and textiles. I find inspiration from many of Roberts Group’s projects, as well as local talented designers such as Katie Hackworth, Heidi Caillier, and Brian Paquette.” The Roberts advice to those considering a kitchen remodel is not to be afraid of mixing high and low-cost items in your space and to work with a good designer and contractor who will help you allocate wisely. Emily and Zach were fortunate to work with the subcontractors that Roberts Group hires, making the process smooth.
