THE PASSING OF RUTH BADER GINSBURG. I’m reminded of how thankful I am that I can own a business, a home, and much more because of the work that she did. Whether or not you believe in all the things she fought for, these quotes from Ruth are a timely reminder in light of the upcoming presidential election: “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” “Reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.”

“You can disagree without being disagreeable.” With the tension that this year’s election brings, implementing her words would do us all some good. And, if we’re being honest, as an added tension reliever, be sure to try this months “Cocktail Club” recipe, courtesy of Ascend Prime on page 42. November is typically a time for gathering and reflecting on what we’re thankful for. This year may be different than most, but when putting together this issue it’s clear to me that the Bellevue community is actively continuing to find ways

We sat on a hill in Patagonia, Chile, admiring the Torres Del Paine peak, saying goodbye to 2019 and welcoming the New Year. FOR MANY, NOVEMBER IS A TIME TO GIVE THANKS. DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY PARTICULAR CELEBRATIONS OR TRADITIONS? Our family started a new tradition of steakhouse Thanksgiving with an oven roasted tenderloin (thank you Ina Garten), homemade onion rings, garlic broccoli, scalloped potatoes and apple crisp for dessert. 2020 HAS BEEN A WILD RIDE, IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING TO THANK IN 2020 WHO OR WHAT WOULD IT BE? + WHERE TO STAY

TRAVEL DESTINATION (CONTINUED)

The Ranch has maintained and restored some of its original property, making each cabin unique and a true reflection of the West. Offering accommodations for an intimate romantic getaway, or large friend or family gatherings (up to 18), the multiple private cabins on site have something for everyone. The decor strikes a balance between modern comfort and authentic ranch; think rustic luxury. The breathtaking views, and natural surroundings provide an ideal base for your daily adventures. An insider tip: guests returning to the ranch typically request to stay in the “Bald Eagle” – an ideal location to feel the soft breeze through the windows or get lost in the sound of the nearby running waters all year long.

After a day of adventuring, you will definitely have worked up an appetite. And the food on the Ranch will

to locally sourced, farm-to-table menu, which is why the food is one of the best things about visiting. Add in warm and engaging service, and the ideal western vibe, and you’ll wish this could be your daily dining experience. Executive Chef Eric Gruber has made a name for himself in national culinary circles, and he ensures the food and flavors reflect true Montana heritage. Both Horn & Cantle and The Saloon are located directly on the property and offer an intimate but lively atmosphere that is perfect for couples, families, and groups. And the best part is, it’s just an easy, beautiful walk back to your cabin after your meal. The breakfast buffet was one of Bellevue Lifestyle’s favorite meals of the day, and guarantee it will keep you full and satisfied as you head off on your day. We also recommend choosing the “Discovery Package” for your stay, where all three meals, tax and tip, are included. It feels even more like carefree vacation, when you can walk in and out of dining with no need for your wallet or purse.

CULINARY CREATIONS

t he wel l ness generation JUJUBEET EXPLAINS INGESTIBLE BEAUTY, INGESTIBLE IMMUNITY, AND ANTI-AGING

ARTICLE LAURIE SASSER

28

Bellevue Lifestyle | November 2020

WELLNESS IS BOOMING! As a result, today’s plant-lab, juice cleanse aficionados are often referred to as “the wellness generation.” However, in a world where supplements and new products are launched daily there is value in simplicity. It’s time to turn our focus to absorption, timing and curation. At Jujubeet, timing is everything! Adaptogens, Bioavailability, and Microbiome are all buzzworthy terms that shift the focus back to the body’s natural cadence and systems. As we return to highly calibrated natural foods and cleanses as our baseline, we can now distill into our personal wellness playbook. We learn what really finely tunes the body based on specific wellness goals. We have a more refined approach to ingestible beauty, ingestible immunity, anti-aging, and so on. Not all products are created equal. The microbiome is a sparkling new topic on the wellness scene, as it sits at the intersection of beauty, anti-aging, functional medicine, and immunity. While Probiotics are healthy bacteria in the gut, Prebiotics are food that feed specific probiotic strains. A mixture of both can support the fragile ecosystem called the gut microbiome as a way to enhance immunity. This is important!! We suggest to keep an eye on expiration dates, ingredient sourcing, and method of juicing. *Try: Jujubeet Coconut Probiotic or a Jujubeet cleanse which is specifically coldpressed and includes Probiotics as well as natural Prebiotics. Bioavailability is a measure of how easily and fully a nutrient can be absorbed by the body. Adaptogens are typically herbs or mushrooms that can help expand bioavailability of nutrients by reducing stress. or disenfranchised groups to focus only on final result of any local, regional or national election, as it reveals the same naked reality for those who are allowed, or choose to participate, as it reveals to those who are barred from, or opt out of the process. The image of George Washington in The Athenaeum is unfinished, fuzzy, and a touch confusing, but his identity remains clear because the finished product gives us enough information to be a reflection of who he is. And although we see ourselves reflected many different ways each day; close up to our pores in a clear mirror, stretched by sunlight casting a shadow on the ground, memorialized in a billion bad selfies or sweetly reflected in the eye’s of a child, corny as it sounds...we cannot escape who we are, who we become, or who we choose to be, through a election process that welcomes some and denies others, even as some who can participate don’t, and those who cant, fight to be heard hoping it will change the result. But ultimately, the makeup of our government, the outcome of any voting process, delivers the exact same result: a true, if distorted, reflection of who we are as a nation, how we choose to present ourselves as a republic, a blindingly truthful measure of where we are as a country and an honest portrayal of who and what America prioritizes. You can vote. I hope you do if you are able. You can opt out. You can be blocked from the process against your will. But when the speeches and debates have ended, when the polls are closed and the pundits have lost their audience, we will be left with a clear and unflinching reflection of ourselves. Will we like who we see? Or will we be undone?

CAREER BELLEVUE RESIDENT AND GODIVA CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ANNIE YOUNG-SCRIVNER IS A STANDOUT LEADER TO FOLLOW ON LINKEDIN. Her posts feature passionate, personal, inclusive and always pertinent words of wisdom and encouragement. She is liberal with praise and appreciation, shares the successes of others and speaks directly about current events and issues. In the days after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, she posted an image of the judge, writing “She positively impacted so many. She inspired generations. She was an advocate for creating an equal world for all. She was Ruth Bader Ginsburg, mom, daughter, wife, professor, hero, Supreme Court Justice. She made our world brighter. I am deeply saddened by the loss of an amazing person. Let’s celebrate her greatness.” A flip through her feed finds a consistent theme of mentorship and collaborative leadership.
