AUGUST IS ALWAYS A SPECIAL TIME FOR ME BECAUSE IT IS BELLEVUE LIFESTYLE’S ANNIVERSARY MONTH! It’s been two years, and while we’ve grown so much, we’ve really only just scratched the surface. Bellevue is transforming, and it’s exciting to be a part of that. We have a lot of fun things coming to finish out 2019 and go into 2020—I can’t wait to share them with you. If you don’t already, please be sure to follow us on Instagram (@BellevueLifestyle) and Facebook (@BellevueLifestylePubs) for realtime updates and behind-the-scenes footage that doesn’t make it in the magazine. Our social media platforms are also a great place to get to know more about the people and businesses featured in our stories, as well as the contributors who were a part of creating the content. Also check out our website (BellevueLifestylePubs.com), which recently got a huge, beautiful update. With all that said, this month we decided to celebrate some of our cutest residents: kids and pets! There’s no doubt we have some serious pet lovers in Bellevue. I’m personally more of a dog person myself, but Lindzi Cox’s bunny, Buster, is a game

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT PAINTING PEOPLE’S PETS IS THE CLIENT’S REACTION. KNOWING THAT I MADE SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE THAT BROUGHT THEM SO MUCH HAPPINESS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR. —KAIT PITTSBURGH NATIVE AND ARTIST KAIT SCHOEB PACKED UP HER BRUSHES, PAINT TUBES AND CANVASES AND TRAVELED CROSSCOUNTRY WITH HER HUSBAND SEVEN MONTHS AGO TO CALL SEATTLE THEIR NEW HOME. After starting her business from the ground up nearly five years ago with a focus on large-scale paintings, Kait yearned to further evolve her work. Fast forward a few years later—after completing a painting of her cat Beanie, Kait began offering smaller paintings of people’s pets. The idea not only allowed for faster turnover and a lower price point but also opened up her market. “I believe everyone should be able to afford an original painting that they’ll treasure,” Kait says. Her original pet oil paintings are 6 inches by 6 inches. PaintsByKait.com

TAILS OF BELLEVUE

(CON TI N U ED)

As a vice president at Merrill Lynch, Traci Bumpus aims to improve clients’ lives, but the life she’s helped the most just might belong to a 13-year-old Persian cat named Cosmo. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF COSMO? He was about 6 months old, living down the street, and after a series of odd events, he came to live with me for a few months. He was tiny and sick and a little scared. I nursed him back to health, but on Christmas Eve his original owner tried to take him back, and I had to let him. But Cosmo escaped and ran back to my house, then hunkered down on my porch until I came home around midnight. He was so scrappy and brave, and he’s been with me ever since!

COSMO 13 YEARS

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST ENDEARING ABOUT HIM? Cosmo’s tongue is always sticking out. It’s his signature. Also, he always wants to hold my hand when he sleeps. DOES HE DO ANY TRICKS? Well, Cosmo doesn’t have any teeth, so I only give him wet food, but he still steals his cousin Watson’s kibble when he’s visiting. He swallows it whole. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, I suppose!

PERSIAN

IF YOU WERE TO DESCRIBE COSMO’S PERSONALITY IN THREE WORDS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? Sweet, salty and a survivor.

SCOUT AND MURPHY 2 YEARS

When luxury realtor Travis Groome isn’t helping someone buy their dream home, he’s got a full house of his own with 2-year-old labradoodles, Scout (black) and Murphy (tan)—and teenage (human) triplets. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BRING THEM HOME? I fell in love with Scout’s playful nature, and when I would go visit him in their first weeks, Murphy would always curl up in my lap—very different personalities. Eventually, the breeder said, “You know you’re going to end up with both,” and I did.

LABRADOODLES

WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP LIKE WITH EACH OTHER? They are brothers and act just like all siblings do—very similar to our triplets! WHAT DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN YOU COME HOME TO THEM? I just love the sweet play time when they both go crazy for attention—as if they have been deprived all day while they are home alone, just waiting to lick us nonstop and show off their toys as though for the first time. HOW HAVE THEY CHANGED YOUR LIFE? Pets truly love unconditionally. It is so nice to come home after long, stressful days and have them share the most sincere joy and love imaginable.

LOCALLY OWNED

(CON TI N U ED)

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE PROGRAM? Petting the cats, because they’re so soft. WHICH CAT IS YOUR FAVORITE? All of them! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING A CAT HAS DONE SO FAR? Let me pet it. HOW DOES YOUR CAT, JEZEBELLE, FEEL ABOUT YOU PETTING OTHER CATS? She’s fine with it. Jaggar’s mom, Jamee, has only rave reviews about the program. She had been searching for an opportunity for Jaggar to volunteer with animals but found it was difficult to find for kids. She discovered Kitty Literature and thought they’d give it a try since he loves cats and books. It turned out to be a perfect fit. “Part of why I love the program is, of course, getting to spend time here with the cats because they’re all amazing in their own way,” Jamee says, “And it helps me to think about how we’re helping them beyond just reading. They need a little love and comfort, and I like to think that we’re giving them a little bit of that friendship they need.” Jamee and her son adopted a cat from a sheet and feels strongly about helping animals find homes. Volunteering at Seattle Humane Society has only reinforced that there are so many animals that deserve to be valued for what they are, regardless of their breed.

“THE ADOPT-DON’ T-SHOP CONCEPT IS SO IMPORTANT. I TRULY BELIEVE ALL OF THESE ANIMALS DESERVE A CHANCE.” —JAMEE As of June 2019, Seattle Humane Society had 146 cats in their shelter. A portion of that number was still receiving medical care and being processed for adoption through their intake department. However, summertime is peak kitten season in the Seattle area, and Seattle Humane Society predicts that they will see about 1,800 kittens this kitten season. The need is great for volunteers for the Kitty Literature program, and they are eagerly received by Seattle Humane Society.

It may be at your home, in your yard, at a vacation cabin, at a special park or on ski slopes. Where would your family feel most comfortable, and what has some significant meaning that you would like to have as a keepsake? styling tips Dress for your surroundings, with the season and your location in mind. Think complementing outfits, not matching outfits. posing tips Trust your photographer. Something they ask you to do may feel awkward, but they are professionals and know what will look good. Be yourself. Let your family energy naturally come out and do things to let your guard down and have fun even in the midst of all the moving pieces. Never force it. Do not force kids to do what they do not want to. Make sure to come with everyone fed and in as good of a mood as possible to allow your family’s chemistry to take place naturally.
