LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Style Issue Dear Reader, I hope this letter finds you somewhere between a seating chart and a dress fitting, because that's exactly where I've been. I'm planning a wedding, and if there's one thing I didn't expect, it's how much this process would teach me about style. Not just mine, but the kind that lives in details most people will never notice but somehow shape everything. Every choice has become its own small act of self-expression, multiplied a hundred times over. Recently, I've found no shortage of inspiration. Local florists who understand restraint as much as abundance. Boutiques that know exactly which piece will make me feel like myself and not like a bride playing dress-up. If you're planning something big of your own this season, or simply navigating the quieter decisions of everyday life, I'd encourage you to let style guide you the way it's guided me: not toward perfection, but toward authenticity. The most beautiful weddings, like the most beautiful lives, aren't the ones that follow every trend. They're the ones that feel unmistakably, unapologetically true to the people living them. Here's to saying yes to the dress, the details, and to yourself. Cheers!

Lindsey Moore Co-owner of LMV Travel Consultants ON YOUR WEBSITE, IT SAYS: “LUXURY ISN’T JUST A STYLE OF TRAVEL, IT’S THE STANDARD WE SET FOR EVERY JOURNEY WE DESIGN.” WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?
To us, luxury is about creating an effortless experience from beginning to end. It starts with listening— understanding how our clients like to travel, what excites them, and what they value most. From there, we design every detail with intention, whether that’s selecting the right boutique hotel, arranging a private guide, or ensuring every transfer is seamless. Luxury isn’t defined by a price tag; it’s the confidence that every detail has been thoughtfully considered so our clients can simply enjoy the journey.
WHAT DOES "TRAVELING IN STYLE" MEAN TO YOU, AND HOW HAS THAT DEFINITION EVOLVED SINCE YOU STARTED LMV TRAVEL CONSULTANTS?
When we first launched LMV Travel Consultants, I thought traveling in style meant staying at beautiful hotels and flying in premium cabins. While those experiences are wonderful, I’ve learned that true
luxury is personalization. Traveling in style means having an itinerary designed specifically for you— whether that’s dining in a centuries-old restaurant, staying in a historic palace hotel, exploring a destination with a local expert, or having the flexibility to slow down and truly experience a place. Today, I believe luxury is less about excess and more about meaningful, memorable experiences.
WHAT'S THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT USING A TRAVEL ADVISOR INSTEAD OF BOOKING ON THEIR OWN?
Many people assume using a travel advisor costs significantly more, when in reality it often saves both time and money. Beyond pricing, our greatest value is our expertise and relationships. We know which hotels consistently deliver exceptional service, which experiences are truly worth the investment, and how to anticipate challenges before they happen. Clients aren't just paying for a reservation—they're investing in peace of mind and a carefully curated travel experience. CONTINUED >

WHAT'S ONE SMALL, INEXPENSIVE THING A TRAVELER CAN DO THAT INSTANTLY MAKES A TRIP FEEL MORE STYLISH OR ELEVATED?
Slow down. Instead of trying to see everything, choose one memorable experience each day. Have coffee at a beautiful café, linger over a long lunch, or watch the sunset with a glass of wine overlooking the city. Those unhurried moments often become the memories people treasure most, and they don't require a luxury budget.
IF SOMEONE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING MORE AFFORDABLE BUT STILL WANTS THEIR TRIP TO FEEL LIKE A FIVE-STAR EXPERIENCE, WHAT'S THE ONE AREA YOU'D TELL THEM TO SPLURGE ON?
I always recommend investing in the hotel. You don't have to book the most expensive suite, but choosing a well-located hotel with exceptional service can transform an entire trip. Returning each evening to a comfortable room, attentive staff, and a beautiful setting elevates every day of your vacation. It's one investment that pays off from the moment you arrive until you check out.
THIS IS FOR OUR SEPTEMBER STYLE ISSUE. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT OUR READERS TO KNOW?
Travel is one of the few luxuries that continues to enrich your life long after you’ve returned home. The places you discover, the people you meet, and the memories you create become part of your story. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or the trip of a lifetime, thoughtful planning allows you to experience a destination in a way that feels personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. That’s what we strive to create for every client at LMV Travel Consultants. @lmvtravels lmvtravels.com

Fleurs de Villes returns to Cheekwood, reimagining "The Gilded Age" in petals and stems.
A Gilded Bloom
Last month, stopping to smell the roses at Cheekwood Estate & Gardens meant something a little different. For nine days in August, the historic estate traded its usual botanical calm for high society drama, as its grounds were overtaken by life-sized floral figures dressed in the ambition and opulence of the HBO® Original Series “The Gilded Age.” Fleurs de Villes THE GILDED AGE, a partnership between the global floral-art phenomenon Fleurs de Villes and HBO, reimagined the show’s most iconic characters not in silk and lace, but in petals and stems.

Thirteen Nashville floral studios contributed to the showcase, including Flower Girls Floral Design, Studio Izrada, Rose Hill Flowers, Village Revival, Laural & Leaf, LL Floral, By Gossamer, The Flower House, Abbj Design, Larson Floral Co., T. Villager, Florence Florals, and LMA Designs. Visitors who walked the halls explored the estate got to do more than admire the work as they were able to vote for their favorite mannequin and enter a drawing for a Gilded Ageinspired floral arrangement and a full year of Cheekwood membership. “ We are delighted to welcome Fleurs de Villes back to Cheekwood for this extraordinary debut,” said Sarah Sperling, Senior Vice President of Museum Affairs at Cheekwood. “Set against the backdrop of our historic estate, this immersive exhibition transforms iconic characters from “The Gilded Age” into breathtaking floral works of art, offering guests a truly unforgettable experience.” The premise was simple to describe but far more intricate to pull off: take the show’s most memorable characters and translate their personalities into full-scale floral mannequins. Local florists rose to the challenge, each given a character to interpret through color, texture, and form. From the bold, aspirational gowns of Bertha Russell to the refined sophistication of Agnes van Rhijn, the understated elegance of Marian Brook, and the modern perspective of Peggy Scott, the cast of floral figures was displayed throughout the grounds. “SET AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF OUR HISTORIC ESTATE, THIS IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION TRANSFORMS ICONIC CHARACTERS FROM “THE GILDED AGE” INTO BREATHTAKING FLORAL WORKS OF ART, OFFERING GUESTS A TRULY UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE,” SAID SARAH SPERLING.

“We’re thrilled to return to Cheekwood for a second year to debut our new show series in such a remarkable setting,” said Karen Marshall, Co-Founder of Fleurs de Villes. “With its historic estate and beautiful gardens, Cheekwood provides the perfect backdrop for our fresh floral celebration of HBO’s “The Gilded Age.” The series’ rich visual world and unforgettable characters translate beautifully into floral design, offering endless inspiration for Nashville’s talented florists, and bringing the story to life through stunning floral artistry this August.” Once the exhibition opened, Cheekwood built out a full slate of programming around it. On August 1, Flower Magazine founder and editor-in-chief Margot Shaw stopped by Massey Auditorium for a talk and signing tied to her book “Flowering Outdoors: Gardens & Parties.” Days later, on August 6, art and culture historian Dr. Elizabeth Block – a senior editor at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art – spoke about her own recent release, “Gilded Age Fashion: More than 50 Iconic Looks and Stories Behind Them,” giving visitors a scholarly counterpoint to the floral spectacle just outside the auditorium doors. The Frist Learning Center Courtyard also hosted “Cocktails in the Courtyard” on three evenings – August 1, 7, and 8 – where guests sipped themed drinks and sampled bites from local vendors beneath the floral displays. And on four separate afternoons throughout the run, the designers behind

the mannequins themselves took the stage in the Courtyard Classroom, walking visitors through the inspiration and craft behind each piece before opening the floor to questions. By the time the exhibition closed on August 9, Fleurs de Villes THE GILDED AGE had given Nashville a rare crossover moment, mixing television with fine art, proving once again why Cheekwood continues to serve as one of the city’s most innovative stages for large-scale storytelling. @cheekwood cheekwood.org

When it comes to fashion, Laura Citron proves that true style begins with confidence. Blending her Louisiana roots with vintage-inspired maximalist glamour, Laura celebrates bold colors, rich textures, and pieces that are equally as charming as they are timeless. From Mardi Gras style to festivals and parades, Laura’s fascination with fashion came at a very young age. “My mom was a fabulous pack rat who kept all of her ‘70s lamè jumpsuits, so to me, her closet was like Narnia,” Laura explains. “It resonated so deeply with me… I would invite my friends over, dress them up, and put on mini fashion shows for my mom and her friends. It just always spoke to me.” While her passion for fashion was evident, it wasn’t until she was older that she realized she could truly make it into a career. After graduating high school, Laura attended Louisiana State University and studied broadcast journalism with a minor in fashion—simply because she loved it. At the time, her cousin was a producer in Los Angeles and invited her to come out for the summer to see if she liked the entertainment side of broadcast journalism. Before she knew it, she was working on The Tyra Banks Show and, eventually, found her way to the wardrobe team. Once her magical summer came to an end, she was more inspired than ever and decided it was New York City or bust. She transferred to the Fashion Institute of Technology, following her intuition that the fashion industry was where she belonged. “It was a scary decision, but the scariest thing, to me, is always not trying. I fell in love with the city and the fashion,” Laura shares. “I met so many people, and found so many different facets of the fashion industry. I was a stylist, a buyer, a trend forecaster, but one of my most passionate roles was managing a vintage store there, and it brought me back to my roots of my mom’s closet.” CONTINUED >

Laura’s other half, Andrew Clancey, is a renowned fashion designer and the owner of Any Old Iron—a Britishinspired boutique known for its bold, rock-and-roll aesthetic. Founded in Manhattan in 2010, he and Laura noticed a steady stream of stylists visiting from Nashville who all expressed the same sentiment: they needed more distinctive fashion options. This inspired them to bring Any Old Iron to Nashville. Andrew proposed the idea to Laura that she could open a vintage shop of her own in the space behind his boutique. By 2014, the two were packed up for Nashville, where Andrew opened Any Old Iron and Laura opened the doors to Opium Vintage. “The vintage pieces were becoming a little bit harder and harder to find,” she recalls. “We were working with the stylists here, and they were telling us what they were looking for, so [Andrew] came across a manufacturer and started making a few sequin jackets, and those really took off. He said, ‘Well, why don’t you pull out your favorite vintage elements and make a little collection and see how that does?’ So I started designing with my favorite vintage elements and little by little, the stylists started using them too.” Over the past twelve years, Laura has continued to evoke eclectic nostalgia of decades past with a reimagined vision for a modern world. Her label has been seen on numerous red carpets and award show stages on notable musicians including Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, Lauren Alaina, Jennifer Nettles, and Greta Van Fleet, among others. She has also shown her collections in over forty fashion shows across ten cities in the United States, and one internationally in Australia at Melbourne Fashion Festival. In 2023, she won Charleston Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Competition and was later featured on The Tamron Hall Show‘s Up & Coming Designer series, where she was mentored by renowned fashion designer Michael Kors. While her professional achievements continue to grow, what inspires Laura most is the opportunity to make a difference through her work. In the past, she has participated in fashion shows benefiting incredible organizations including the American Cancer Society, Nashville Humane Society, Dress for Success, Faith + Wildflowers, the Bridge, and more. In addition, Laura is a board member of the Nashville-based non-profit, Fashion Is For Every Body—an organization that produces an annual inclusive fashion show celebrating models of all sizes, races, ages, disabilities, and more. This November, she will be showcasing her collection at New Orleans Fashion Week before participating in Fleur de Bra, a costumed fashion show that celebrates breast cancer survivors and raises funds for breast cancer patients. For Laura, fashion is fantasy, and her goal is to create a world filled with color, sparkle, and fun where everyone can feel happy, confident, and fabulous!
22
FASH ION F OR WA R D | SH OPPIN G
“I always say that if you appreciate art or fashion or interior design, it’s all the same language, it’s just using different tools,” Laura explains. “I appreciate all those things, but I chose fashion because if you have a beautiful piece of art on your wall that you admire, it’s amazing, but once you leave your house, you leave that piece. Whereas what you wear on your body, you get to choose who you want to be that day—it’s a little moving piece of art with a message that stays with you throughout the entire day.” One of Laura’s design philosophies is dopamine dressing: the scientific theory that wearing a bright, happy color or seeing someone in a bright, happy color gives you a pop of dopamine. When she’s having a bad day, she loves tricking her brain with the use of colors—whether it’s a hot pink dress or a statement purse, she always feels better than she started! Fashion is more than just the clothes you wear—it is a lifestyle. Even if it’s something small, just one little bit of color helps you dip your toe into exploring your style without feeling too uncomfortable in doing so. “I have people that say, ‘I love all of your pieces, I just wish I had somewhere to wear them too.’ My response to that is life is the occasion! Being alive is the occasion,” she shares. “[I love] taking a situation that is super mundane and turning it into something fun, just by what you wear. Like a Tuesday night, nothing’s going on… let’s go put on a fun dress and heels and sit at a bar and have a glass of champagne.” For Laura, Nashville has been more than a home—it has been a source of inspiration and a place that introduced her to a community that has joyfully embraced her creativity and passion. Music City’s growing fashion scene—and unique blend of individuality, creativity, and Southern charm—has inspired her to embrace the idea that fashion is more than just what we wear, it’s a reflection of who we are. “It’s about wearing what makes you feel your best, and that’s what’s so great about fashion—it’s about being able to give yourself a little bit of confidence, and give someone a little sneak peek of who you are before you even open your mouth,” Laura shares. In addition to its downtown location on 4th Avenue, Laura Citron’s collections will also be available inside Any Old Iron’s second location on Magazine Street in New Orleans, opening this month. The expansion reflects the brand’s mission to offer distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces to the city’s stylish locals while creating custom designs for Mardi Gras, galas, balls, and the countless celebrations that make New Orleans so unique. A TALE OF THREE CITIES Three fashion capitals, three different ways to shop ARTICLE BY CAROLINE SHIRLEY
Coco Chanel used to sit a few steps up on her own mirrored staircase at 31 rue Cambon, tucked out of sight, watching her guests watch her clothes. She never sat in the room. She wanted the reaction, not the applause. That's Paris. Discretion as strategy, and it's not the only house built that way. Down the street, Hermès started as a saddlery in 1837, a craftsman's medal for stitching that was good enough for Empress Eugénie and Tsar Nicholas II. A few blocks over, Louis Vuitton got his start packing other people's trunks before he ever built one of his own, and his shop on the Champs-Élysées went on to become the largest travel-goods store in the world at the time. None of these houses started out selling luxury. They started out solving a problem well enough that luxury found them. This is a tale of three cities. Paris makes it personal. Milan hides them in plain sight. Tokyo puts them on a screen. By day, the Chanel building in Ginza is just glass. Then the sun goes down, and the glass itself changes, opaque to translucent, and the whole face of the building turns into a screen: 700,000 LEDs lighting up block by block. The boutique is long closed by then, but it doesn't matter. The building keeps performing anyway, for whoever happens to be walking by. You haven't walked in, haven't seen a single bag or bouclé jacket, and it's already told you what you're about to want tomorrow. That's Tokyo's whole style, really. Nothing hidden, nothing improvised. Just a performance, impossible to miss. Milan does it differently still. Via Montenapoleone wasn't always a shopping street, it was a row of aristocratic homes for most of the 18th and 19th centuries, quiet, private, nobody's business. It didn't become a shopping street until after the war, and it didn't become the fashion district until Armani and Versace showed up in the seventies and eighties and planted their names on it. old money could hold new money too. They were right. By 2024, Montenapoleone had become the most expensive retail street on earth, more than Fifth Avenue, more than Bond Street. Walk it now, and there's a Chanel door right on the corner, glass front, fully visible, open to anyone passing through. Then there's the other door. Around the corner on Via Verri, unmarked, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Behind it, a private salon, a fitting room, service for clients who want something the shop floor was never going to offer them. Milan doesn't hide the merchandise. It hides who gets to walk through the second door. Three cities, three takes on luxury. Each a fashion capital in its own right. Paris, the birthplace of haute couture. Milan, Italy's fashion capital. Tokyo, a city that puts on a show for no one in particular, and everyone at once. The real question isn't which city does it best. It's which one sounds like you.
