Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers spent are often not filled with constant activities and trips, but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” isn’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, spending a day on the water, eating ice cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky with someone you love. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the happenings around our city this summer and ways to get out and explore together. In addition, it is our privilege to shine a light on local veterans in our community and to thank them for their service in honor of the Fourth of July. We have an immense respect for the men and women who make the selfless decision to serve and protect our nation. There is no greater sacrifice than to risk your life in order to protect others. The team at Lifestyle wants to thank all veterans, those still serving and all of their loved ones for your service. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the many things our city offers during these hot days of summer and that you make memories with those around you that you love.

Founder Neely Cotten is a Vanderbilt-trained acute care nurse practitioner with a passion for helping her clients navigate the confusing world of healthcare successfully. The annual stormwater fee hasn't been adjusted since its inception 11 years ago. J.T. Ellison never planned to become a novelist. The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author and Emmy winner is a Colorado native. However, her life changed trajectories when her family relocated to Washington, DC, where she attended Langley High School. “It was right next to CIA headquarters, the biggest culture shock you can imagine.” More changes came when she took a semester off after her first year of college and moved home. Her mother gave her an ultimatum. “If you’re going to be here,” she said, “you’re going to work with me.” At the White House. “I went from stuffing envelopes to working with senior staff on the first Bush campaign.” After that, she transferred to Randolph Macon Women’s College and later interned in Cabinet Affairs. “Phenomenally cool. I set up the room for the Cabinet meetings and communicated between the President’s office and the Cabinet. Presidential politics is very intoxicating.” She received her master's degree in political management from George Washington University and worked for a few years in D.C. Shortly after she and her husband moved to Tennessee, she required major back surgery, and her recovery allowed time for reading. That brought the most significant change of all.

“I read Tami Hoag, Michael Connelly, and all these amazing crime fiction writers.” A librarian was instrumental in her next step, suggesting John Sanford’s books. “I was three deep into his Prey series, and I was like, this is it. This is my thing.” The idea for her debut novel, “All The Pretty Girls”, came as she drove down I-40 on her way to physical therapy. “My main character came out fully formed. Taylor is half cop, half rockstar, and I wanted to tie her to Nashville. “I want people to read my books and think, ‘I want to go to that town!’ Every book I write has a local connection. If we hadn’t moved here, I wouldn’t be the writer that I am. This place made me, and I want to give back to it as much as I can.” In 2015, Nashville Public Television asked J.T. to cohost A Word on Words, inspired by A Word on Words with John Seigenthaler, the literary program created by NPT that ran for forty years. “Being asked to carry on the literacy legacy of John Seigenthaler is one of the greatest honors of my life.” J.T. has interviewed local bestsellers Ariel Lawhon and Ruta Sepetys, as well as Tayari Jones and Delia Owens, and finds a couple of authors especially memorable. “Going to jail with Margaret Atwood was definitely a highlight. Music City Grand Prix Returns

Six Reasons To Get Enthused About This Year’s Race ARTICLE BY DELIA JO RAMSEY For one weekend only, the cacophony of live music from honkytonks, party buses blaring Shania Twain, sirens, and shrieking woo girls in downtown Nashville will be drowned out by the sound of roaring engines and a spectacle of speed. IndyCar returns to Nashville Aug. 5-7, 2022, with the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix. Last year was the first-ever event, and it was one for the books. Get ready to hear those engines revving on downtown’s city streets when the Indycar race returns for its second year. Three-day Grand Prix ticket packages begin at $129, and tickets include admission into every concert in addition to the daily racing activities.

1. It’s Grammy Award-winning superstar Tim McGraw’s only stop in Tennessee during his 2022 tour. The legendary music artist is set to perform at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 as part of the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix weekend at the Nissan Stadium campus. The show will take place on the ZYN Main Stage and will be followed by a fireworks show on the riverfront that can be seen from the concert location. All Big Machine Music City Grand Prix tickets for that day include free access to the show. The McGraw performance is just the first of three concerts to be announced as part of the Grand Prix’s three-night series from August 5-7.

A rare Grand Ole Opry Live performance is part of the weekend’s festivities. For the second consecutive year, a Grand Ole Prix show will take place on Sunday evening following the race. The lineup for the special show will feature multiple performers, which haven’t been announced yet. Last year’s performance featured The Oak Ridge Boys, Callista Clark, Danielle Bradbery, Riley Green and Justin Moore.

There’s a new spot to watch the action this year. Visitors can watch the race while cruising down the Cumberland aboard the General Jackson Riverboat. Those tickets include access to the race grounds, FanZone, and music options on Sunday race day.

This year they’ve expanded the competition to include a race on the water. Watercross, a jet ski competition, will take place on the Cumberland on Friday and Saturday of race week.

To make one 8 ounce mason jar of vanilla orange sugar scrub, you need: + 1/4 cup of coconut oil + 3/4 cup of sugar + 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract + 10 drops of orange essential oil
